  1. anyone kenah this scenario before ? my downstairs neighbor sold his flat abotu 2 months back and the new occupants just moved in. prior to moving in, the new occupants did some renovation works. last week, after the officially moved in for 3 weeks, a HDB officer came to my house and told us that the flat downstairs is complaining that water from our unit is leaking into their toilets from the ceilings !! the officer even told us she was given a VIDEO of the water seeping through the ceiling !! now the HDB officer "offer" us to settle the leaking issue based on the standard HDB absorb 50% and the two owners (upstairs and downstairs) split the balance 50% half/half. I managed to get in touch with the previous occupant and asked them if they ever had any leakage issues when they were staying there and they told me that for the past 20 years, no issue at all !! now the new occupant move in and did renovation works, the ceiling start to leak ?? I am saying that their renovation contractor did a lousy job and caused the ceiling to be compromised and now we, on the upper floor have to pay for their incompetency !! anyone encounter this and did not pay for the rectifications ?

  6. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...y_passerby.html A two-year-old toddler survived a fall from the tenth floor of a building after being caught by a passer-by in Hangzhou, China. Two-year-old Niu had been left alone at home after her grandmother went out to run some errands. The toddler woke up from her nap and climbed onto the windowsill in an attempt to find her grandmother. A neighbour on the ninth floor had noticed Niu dangling from the window and tried to reach her using a ladder but was unsuccessful. Wu Juping, a passer-by, rushed across the street to catch the toddler just as Niu lost grip on the windowsill and fell ten stories down. STOMPer guardianangel says: "The fact someone would sacrifice so much just to save a complete stranger is so heartwarming. "She broke her arm in the process because she absorbed the impact of Niu's fall. "Wu Juping has a seven-month-old baby and said that at that very moment, all she could think of was how her own child had fell from a chair and bled a lot and how much worse the consequences would be if Niu fell from the tenth storey." This is really 用手劳动节

  9. HDB just sent a letter informing nearby residents that they are building shelter at my top floor MCP. The thing is after staying here for well over 20years, MCP built like 10 years ago, I have only seen like ONCE the top floor got spill over cars parking there. And that occasion was when PM visit with some mini-carnival. Other then that, nobody is at the top floor, always empty, not even on weekends nor holidays. No monkeys to catch too as many surrounding blocks overlooking it. My question is, who benefit most from this excercise? 1) residents? 2) town council? 3) contractor?

  15. Toyota: 3.8 million cars with risky floor mats NHTSA and world's largest automaker warn vehicle owners to remove driver's side floor mats in 7 Lexus and Toyota models. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota issued a safety warning for 3.8 million Lexus and Toyota cars because of potentially deadly floor mats. In statements released Tuesday, the world's largest automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned drivers to remove the mats or risk a forced-down accelerator pedal that could lead to a fatal crash. The seven models being recalled could potentially have removable mats that would interfere with the pedal and cause it to stick. "A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death," said Toyota in its statement. Though Toyota recalled accessory all-weather floor mats in 2007 for similar problems, NHTSA noted that reports of vehicles accelerating rapidly even after the release of the pedal have continued. In a statement posted on the automaker's Web site earlier this month, Toyota said that preliminary information from investigators indicated that a fatal crash involving a family driving a 2009 ES350 loaned by a local Lexus dealer in San Diego could have been caused by an all-weather floor mat interfering with the accelerated pedal because of a faulty mat installation. "There is an urgent matter," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in the NHTSA statement. "For everyone's sake, we strongly urge owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration." Toyota has announced that it will soon launch a safety recall to redress the problem, but NHTSA and the automaker warn Toyota and Lexus drivers of certain models to remove that floor mats sooner for safety. The Toyota models being impacted are: 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma and 2007-2010 Tundra. The Lexus models facing the safety recall are the 2007-2010 ES 350, and the 2006-2010 IS 250 and IS 350.
  16. Hi all, need to get floor plans for a foreigner friend of mine who is moving into 'Strata' at novena. Anyone knows where I can get a soft copy of the floor plan? She'd like to get a copy and work on her interior design early. thanx!
  17. Just saw the news and post here to let bros know...no toileteries/electronics/medicated items to buy there from today 4pm onwards for 3 days until Sat 8pm...still can patronise other floor levels though...or hop over to nearby City Square. Apr 8, 2010 Mustafa to close 1st storey By Elena Chong IN AN unprecedented move, Mustafa Centre has been ordered to close its first storey for 40 hours from 4pm on Thursday to 8am on Saturday. No retail activity will be allowed on that level but the other floors of the six-storey building at Syed Alwi Road will not be affected. Even the money-changing and food delivery services outside the building can operate as usual. This followed an application by Singapore Civil Defence Force for a prohibition order which was granted by District Judge Imran Abdul Hamid on Thursday. SCDF had pressed for a 72-hour closure order but the court decided on 40 hours instead. SCDF had said that overcrowding was still an issue despite the company having been fined on Jan 19 for two charges of fire safety violations, including overcrowding. It went to court last month to seek the prohibition order as the mall had breached the 431-patron limit for the first storey. Mustafa's lawyer, Mr Mirza Namazie had argued that the order should not be given as it was not fair and right. He said his clients had been more vigilant since last week's hearing and had actually stopped people from entering once the number reached 380.

  20. Bros I am thinking of DIY-ing a playhouse for my 5 cats. Something along this idea (see pic) but indoors. But first I need to buy an extendable metal pole which can stretch from floor to ceiling (~ 2.4m). Saw something in the Ikea catalogue which is for those exposed cupboards but it is kind of pricey at $180. I still need to buy boards so that costs something as well. Do you know of any place I can buy such poles at perhaps a cheaper rate? TIA.

  23. Hi all, Recently encounter a semi-serious problem with my ride. Below the front passenger seat, the floor seems to be always wet. The entire floor mat is now sloggy. On top of that, the engine coolant temperature goes into the red region whenever I stop the car with the engine still running(traffic lights). And when that happens, the aircon starts blowing air that are no longer cool. I brought my ride to the AD and they suspect that the coolant hose is leaking (they mention that my coolant is almost empty!!) However, after doing the pressure test, they discover that there's no leak! So they say that they will change the hose anyway but dun knw the source of the leak!!! My question being, is the wet floor cause by leaking of the coolant or the refrigerant(i suspect refrigerant is leaking cause of the warm air coming from the aircon)? btw i'm driving a peugeot 307 sw
