1. Has anyone thought of playing 5 a side soccer with MCF forumers before ? Am thinking of organising especially for uncles who cannot run for more than 5 min, just to sweat a little and can have a beer after that together. Cos other than sit in front of a computer to type and sit in a car's cockpit to drive, got little chance to sweat it out. Any forumers for it ? i think we can have many players cos every 5 minutes change subsitutes. who are for it ?
2. OK I am still smarting from the Liverpool defeat but I am consoled that Liverpool got kickoff from the second position to thiird. Ok sorry Liverpool fans, that not the purpose of this thread. A lot of my ex-schoolmates are football kakis. they could be lurking(like DOM) inside here . I am trying to start a thread to see if any of them are here and we could have a reunion of sort. Maybe some of you may also benefit too even we may not be from the same school, WTH! I will try to start the ball rolling; my storey My school is one of the renown footballing school, SJI at Bras Basah Rd. I am a late-starter for this game simply cos I was introduced to it when I started my secondary education in SJI. By then most of my classmate were from St Anthony's and St Michael, they were always talking about Liverpool and Kevin Keegan. My English stars then were Peter Shilton(Stoke City) and Billy Bremer(Leeds United). I do not remembered how I started with Man U. My father introduced me to Malaya Cup at Jalan Besar. I was drawn to the goalkeeping position by the local stars like Gopalsamy, Lee Bee Seng then. Let see if I can find any ex-classmate here. We parted in 1975. I hope you can find your ex-classmate too.

7. CNA Sport News reported : Football: EPL braces for fallout from market mayhem Posted: 02 October LONDON: Fears are mounting that an English Premier League (EPL) football club could be the next high-profile victim of the financial crisis that has brought banks to their knees across the world. The global credit crunch is set to make it a grim winter for British business and a football industry that has long displayed a hedge fund manager's appetite for excess risk will be no exception, according to some within the game. Paul Duffen, the chairman of EPL newcomers Hull, warned this week that his club's highly-geared rivals could easily go the way of Northern Rock, HBOS or Bradford and Bingley, the British banks that have been submerged by the crisis. Hull are rare among England's top flight clubs in being debt-free, a status their chairman savours in the current climate. "We're not as rich as Croesus as some of our competitors are, but in some ways we're maybe one of the wealthiest clubs as we don't have any debt," he said. "A lot of the clubs have themselves highly geared and in these highly uncertain banking times I think there could be a few casualties in the Premier League later in the season sadly." Portsmouth are seen as the club most likely to sink under the weight of their rising debt. It stands at 53 million pounds (US$94 million) but outstanding instalments on the transfer deals that enabled Harry Redknapp to build an FA Cup winning squad mean it could be nearer 80 million by the end of the season. The club's Russian owner, Alexandre Gaydamak, denies he wants to cut his losses and sell up while admitting he would "listen to offers" - hardly the stance of a man convinced he has a sustainable business model on his hands. Portsmouth are not alone in their current predicament. Newcastle's owner, Mike Ashley, is so keen to get out he has cut the asking price for the club from 450 million pounds to 300 million. Everton are also desperate to find a new cash-rich backer with their chairman, Bill Kenwright, recognising that rising interest rates will soon start to bite. "We know what's going on at the moment in the world," he said. "The banks are tighter than they've ever been." At the end of the 2006/07 season, the 20 clubs that then made up the EPL had combined debts of just under 2.5 billion pounds. Set against combined turnover of 1.5 billion, that is not an exceptional figure by the standards of other industries. Now, the new reality for the majority of clubs is that, unless they start cutting costs drastically, their debt can only go in one direction at a time when the liquidity crisis in capital markets is pushing the cost of financing any form of credit sharply upwards. Just ask Liverpool's American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, who last month announced an indefinite delay in the construction of the club's planned new 73,000-seat stadium because they cannot currently raise the 400 million pounds needed to finance it. Only clubs like Chelsea, underwritten by Roman Abramovich's personal fortune, and Manchester City, now cushioned by the reassuringly deep pockets of the Abu Dhabi United Group, can claim to be truly immune from contamination by the tsunami of toxic debt that triggered the current crisis. Even Manchester United, England's most valuable but also most indebted club, could be vulnerable to a c0cktail of rising bank rates and a downturn in merchandising and match-day revenues. Not so, say their American owners, the Glazer family, who insist that operating profits (60 million pounds for the 2006/07 financial year) are high enough to service debts that stood at 666 million pounds at the last count. It has not gone unnoticed however that recent hikes in season ticket prices have eliminated the long-standing waiting list for a guaranteed seat at Old Trafford. Will some of the EPL clubs last through the whole 2008/09 season........ or collapse before Christmas.......

10. As reported in ESPN : Eto'o heading to Uzbekistan? TASHKENT, July 17 (Reuters) - Unsettled Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o is considering a move to join Uzbek club Kuruvchi. 'I have several good offers from various clubs at present,' Eto'o told a news conference in Tashkent. 'I'm planning to return to Barcelona and starting from Saturday, I will consider all my options, including the one from Kuruvchi.' 'I'm planning to return to Barcelona and starting from Saturday, I will consider all my options, including the one from Kuruvchi.' The three-times African Player of the Year has been told he is surplus to requirements at the Spanish club and is free to negotiate his own contract. Kuruvchi, who lead the Uzbek championship and face Iran's Saipa in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals in September, have made a reported $40 million offer to lure the 27-year-old from Barcelona. 'We have made a very good offer and are quite serious of getting Samuel to play here,' Kuruvchi coach Mirjalol Kasymov told the club's official website (www.pfc-kuruvchi.com). Eto'o has been Barcelona's first-choice striker since 2004 but missed a large part of the last two seasons through injury. What a joke ........... Chelsea had been offering so much $$$$ and he wants to go to Uzbekistan .......

13. 7:50pm at Woodlands Food Centre Where's the crowd? Stallholders say longer jams at Causeway is affecting their business By Zaihan Mohamed Yusof May 11, 2008 IT was dinner time at the Woodlands Food Centre. --Picture: Zaihan Mohamed Yusof But not much was cooking. The tables were empty, some of the stalls closed. Among the few that were open, business was down to a trickle. It's never been this bad, said stallholders at the food centre near the Causeway. With tighter border checks, the traffic jams, which have always been there, have gone from bad to worse. And they are turning customers away. One operator in his 50s, who wanted to be known only as Mr Mainudin, told The New Paper: 'Before the Mas Selamat incident, you would have to wait to get a table during dinner time. 'Now, it's so empty that you can even play football around the tables.' M'SIAN WORKERS SKIP THEIR DRINK Jemaah Islamiah detainee Mas Selamat Kastari fled the Whitley Road Detention Centre on Feb 27. Since his escape, the police have stepped up border checks at all exit points in Singapore. Mr Mainudin, whose stall is called the Nagore Muslim Drinks Centre, claimed his daily earnings have dropped by half. Between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday, The New Paper on Sunday saw only three customers buying drinks from Mr Mainudin. He said: 'The Malaysian factory workers used to stop for a drink before heading home across the Causeway. 'With the jams, they don't waste time. They just skip the drink and quickly go back.' Another stall operator, Madam Fatimah Dollah, 69, said she can gauge just how much she is losing in business by how much food she has to throw away at the end of the day. She explained: 'At closing time, I find I have so much food left over that I can't bear to throw it away like I usually do. So now, I give some to the cleaners.' EVEN RESIDENTS HAVE GONE Stallholders said the Woodlands area had gradually been losing its buzz over the last few years. It started when the bus interchange was removed. Around the same time, the HDB area office and post office were also relocated. Said Mr Chia Tok Whee, 35, who runs a seafood soup stall: 'With these facilities gone, this area has stopped being a hub for residents. 'People no longer make it a point to come down here for official business. So there is no reason to stop to have a bite or a drink.' With the increased immigration checks, stallholders said all the major roads leading to the area - Woodlands Road, Admiralty Road, Marsiling Drive and the BKE - are gridlocked. They hope the authorities can help them. Said Mr Oh Cheng Sim, 55, who operates an economy rice stall: 'Short-term we can tahan (Malay for withstand), but long-term, habis! (Malay for finished)' Mr Chia thinks one solution the authorities can consider is better traffic control of the roads leading to the area. He said: 'All the major roads here are interconnected. So if one jams up, they all jam up. 'How about having one dedicated road or route leading to the checkpoint, so that even if there is a jam, the other roads will remain free?' Despite the inconvenience, some loyal customers continue to patronise the food stalls at Woodlands. Mr Mahmud Sidek, 41, a technician, is one of the few. 'It's really up to your luck whether you get caught in a bad jam or not. But I've learnt to avoid peak hours and weekends,' he said. 'Besides, I ride a motorbike, so I can still squeeze in between the cars. I can't imagine how bad it is for those in cars. 'I will continue to come here because I grew up in the neighbourhood and my friends all hang out here. And of course, the seafood is also a big draw!' http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/st...64442,00.html??

15. 171507.2 in reply to 171507.1 http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,159831,00.html? Singtel wins exclusive rights for Champions League, Uefa Cup matches from 2009 to 2012 VIEWERS SAY: Pay more? We feel played out By Zubaidah Nazeer March 22, 2008 ? FOOTBALL fans who want to catch the Champions League and Uefa Cup matches from the later half of next year will have to sign up for SingTel's mio TV and its Internet and mobile services. Football fans will still be able to catch Champions League matches on ESPNStarSports via StarHub for the 2008/2009 season. --File picture Both Uefa and SingTel released statements yesterday, announcing that SingTel has been awarded the exclusive rights to screen these European club tournaments in Singapore from next year till 2012. In addition to broadcasting the matches on its pay-TV service, SingTel will also screen them through its online portal and in clips over its mobile service. Football fans interviewed by The New Paper said the move seems to put consumers on the losing end. Civil servant Azman Jamil, 48, said: 'I feel like I've been played out. For any soccer fan like me, we consider tournaments like the English Premier League (EPL) and Champions League to be big, so we watch them all. 'So now, you're telling me that I should either pay more to another service provider or not watch it? How is this fair?' Another football fan, 59-year-old NMudin, agreed. He said: 'What they do is not in the best interest of soccer fans. 'Over the years, we have had to pay more for sports channels. Now, even after having paid more, we still can't watch some big-name matches.' Some fans, like Mr Ron Tan, 29, said they are resigned to just watching EPL next time. Mr Tan, a facilities executive, said: 'EPL is a bigger tournament with more matches. 'At most, I'll just go to a pub or the home of a friend who has SingTel's mio TV if I really want to watch a UefaCup or Champions League match next time.' Mr Allen Lew, SingTel's CEO, said mio TV is 'an integral part of the services that SingTel provides, and what drives pay-TV take-up is the quality of content'. Uefa, on a news release posted on its website, welcomed its new Singapore partner. It said: 'The commitment they have made to acquire the media rights is evidence of the tremendous popularity of the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Cup in Singapore. 'Uefa also thanks ESPN StarSports and StarHub for their excellent contribution to broadcasting the Uefa Champions League and Uefa Cup respectively.' ESPN StarSports has been the sole broadcaster of Champions League matches in Singapore via StarHub cable channels. In reply to our queries, a spokesman for ESPN StarSports said: 'While it has been our best intention to continue showcasing the tournament, we are disappointed that after May 2009, we shall not be able to do so in Singapore.' ESPN StarSports said that it will still be showing the current and following seasons of Champions League matches which run from September to May. STILL SHOWING FA CUP It said its sports offerings remain 'robust and strong', with the English FA Cup and other big-name sports events in the tennis, rugby and cricket arenas. StarHub's spokesman said it did not bid for the broadcast rights to Champions League and Uefa Cup as it had previously been made available via ESPN and StarSports channels. The competition between StarHub and SingTel for the cable subscribers-pie has been fierce. And football, being one of the major reasons that viewers subscribe to pay-TV, is a lucrative market. Just last month, StarHub had announced that it won the bid to screen all the 31 live matches in the upcoming Uefa Euro 2008 Championships this June. After the World Cup, the European Championships is the most-watched football tournament in the world. SingTel missed out on the chance to broadcast live EPL matches, when StarHub outbid both SingTel and ESPN StarSports in late 2006 for the rights to broadcast EPL matches here. StarHub paid an estimated $250 million for this, or four times the previous price. It then raised subscription cost for its sports channels to $25, up from $15. ******************************************************************************** ** so i want to watch EPL i subscribe to Starhub, next time wan to watch Championship league, i have to subscribe to MIO TV KNN...

17. Sad story, even with another ten years. Singapore soccer still cannot make it. Who is this player No.22 He is a joker... instead of crossing from the corner, he dribbled the ball out himself. Got thrash 3-nil. Asean champion gotta to wake up it idea. This is my dedicated Singapore Football song. There was a time when people said that Singapore soccer cannot make it, but they really can't. ... ... ... We built a team, full of joker... ... ...
18. if u put on the emblems in the forms of words or club badge, say man united, arsenal or chelsea, do u think yr car will be more prone to 'attacks' by car vandals (a.k.a. rival fans of other teams)?
19. I had been following quiet a bit on Real Madrid after Man U sold their star striker RvN to Real Madrid. He had been scoring goals after goals since he played for RM. MU is currently looking for a central striker of his standard and to no avail. Boo Boo... Fergie, you had made another mistake or should I say honest mistake for selling RvN to RM after David Beckham also to RM. Latest new is regards to this morning Champions League where RvN score the winning goal against Werder Bremen (2-1) So, is Fergie Right or Wrong for selling RvN to Real Madrid? I am a Liverpool fan but would like to listen to MU fan for a while.
