  1. This a picture by the photographer Kirill Kuletski: Nobody seems to recognize this model. One could say it looks like a Pontiac GTO, but when taking a closer look to the boot, it seems to have the four letters of "Ford" on it. Does anyone know what model this could be?
  2. [extract] To tell you the truth, the American automaker Ford actually planned to market the Ford Fiesta facelift in December last year. However, as it turned out, it was but too much an ambition as the model actually made its debut one month after in the hometown of panda, China. Built by Ford in collaboration with the Chinese Chang

  4. The current range of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engines found in the Volvo S60 and S80 are essentially Ford's EcoBoost units. However, such arrangement is going to change in the near future. The Swedish car maker is distancing itself further from Ford Motor legacy as it prepares to launch a new range of in-house engines and a modular platform. Ford sold Volvo to China's Geely Holding Group in 2010 for US$1.8 billion. Volvo's new engines will have a maximum of four cylinders and will be turbocharged. The modularity of the engines implies that gasoline and diesel units will share 30 to 40 percent of the components. A three-cylinder gasoline unit is likely and each cylinder will be just below 500cc. The petrol engines will range from 140bhp to 280bhp while the diesel variants will produce between 120bhp to 230bhp. They will be launched before end of 2013. Apart from a new engine range, Volvo will develop a new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) that will underpin the all-new XC90 large SUV. Following that, the next V70 and S80 will also use the SPA although they will carry the V90 and S90 designations respectively when they go on sale. The new modular engines and platforms will enable Volvo to enjoy cost savings in areas such as material costs, engineering costs and installation investment cost. This is essential for the brand
  5. Hi all, I hope all the ford focus bros can check your boot logo and see if there are lines appearing. If so, please drop me a PM. The sales executive is accusing me of using detergent or chemical to damage my own car.
  6. The Ford Ka, whose life began in 1996, will probably not see a replacement beyond the current second generation. According to Ford of Europe's Executive Design Director, Martin Smith, the Ka is not a profitable model and is not in line with the brand's global 'One Ford' direction. "It won't pass a US crash test, it was designed too narrowly to suit European tastes and it's only built in one place. It'll get a light mid-life refresh but, as things stand, I can't see a life for the car much beyond that," commented Mr Martin. But, he suggested that Ford of Europe is analysing the prospects of a more diverse range of superminis for the European market that could bring the company back in the black. The second generation Ford Ka made its debut in the 22nd James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, being driven by Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko. It was unveiled to the public at the 2008 Paris Motor Show subsequently.
  7. Turn 10 is back with another DLC this time for its new racing game - Forza Horizon - speaking of which my copy is collecting dust somewhere in my room, hmm. Anyway, each month Turn 10 offers a variety of drool-worthy rides to add to your virtual garage. The December IGN Car pack does just that and does not dissapoint. 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Halo Edition Celebrating the release of Halo 4, another exclusive title from Microsoft, this Ford Raptor is tough enough for Master Chief himself. Finished in a custom UNSC paint job, its was designed by 343 Industries - the developers of Halo 4. 2008 Aston Martin DBS Aston Martin's Ulrich Bez sums up the DBS as "brutal, but dressed in a black tie." The new DBS - famously flipped by Bond in Casino Royale replaced the Vanquish at the time was the fastest Aston thanks to a potent 510bhp V-12. 2012 Ferrari F12berlinetta Ferrari's fastest road car ever and with 740bhp offers as much power as its F1 counterpart. Do I have to say anything more? 2006 Ford GTX1 Built specifically for the 2006 SEMA show, the Ford GTX1 was crafted by Mark Gerisch of Genaddi Design. Design inspiration came from the 1966 Sebring-winning Ford GTX roadster with a functional and innovative roof system comprised of four hard panels. The car is powered by a near 550bhp 5.4-litre supercharged V-8. 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha Open Top The Hummer H1 is probably the most dominant and capable off-road vehicle ever created - minus road practicality. Demanding attention, this 'tank on wheels' was never meant for commercial production. At 7,500 pounds, it can literary eat other cars. Despite its large frame, it could do 300bhp. 1993 McLaren F1 Conceived by Gordon Murray, the McLaren F1 translates Formula Technology in a road car. The McLaren F1 took more than 30 years to reach fruition but when it finally entered production it was the performance benchmark breaking several speed records and held to it untill the introdcution of the Bugatti Veyron. With its unique central seating and BMW sourced 6.1-litre V12 good for 627bhp. In five years of production only 107 were ever built including prototypes and special editions. 1971 AMC Javelin-AMX Some Corvette looking muscle car which is this months free sample car. Perhaps to prove that their 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine is truly a compact unit, Ford chose to transport it in a hand-carry cabin luggage on its way from Detroit to the Los Angeles Airport. The winner of the 2012 'International Engine of The Year' award claims to occupy only the footprint of an A4 size paper when it was launched. From the photo, only the empty engine block is carried and hence it should not be too heavy. Fortunately, the car engine passed the transportation security screening without any problem. The engine is on its way for the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Ford is showing the engine to the US market in preparation for its launch in the 2014 model year Ford Fiesta. The tiny turbocharged 1.0-litre engine is the epitome of downsizing, churning out 125bhp with 200Nm of torque on overboost. In addition to the face-lifted Fiesta, the engine is also powering the Focus hatchback and the 4.8m all-new Ford Mondeo. Ford proves that great things do come in small packages!
  9. [extract] In the United States, Ford offers several reproduction body shells of their previous popular models. You could get either a 1965 or 1967 Mustang Convertible body shell through Ford Restoration Parts program and these body shells are officially licensed products. Due to the popularity of such products, Ford has included another model

Every year, American publication, Consumer Reports conducts a reliability survey from its subscribers' experience with 1.2 million vehicles over the last three years. In this year's report, the biggest surprise is Ford's free fall from inside the top 10 in 2010 to 27th of the 28 brands rated. Only two years ago, Consumer Reports had hailed Ford as a "poster child" of reliability. According to Consumer Reports director of automotive testing Jake Fisher, consumers encountered a lot of problems with Ford's Powershift Dual-clutch transmission and 'MyFord' Touch infotainment system. These systems were introduced to a number of new or revised models such as the Fiesta, Focus and Explorer. On the report, Ford commented that the results matched the internal data the company had received and added that the company had made major improvement earlier this year, and that the survey lagged behind current trends. As usual, Japanese brands dominated the top positions in the survey. Toyota took the top three places with its Scion, Toyota and Lexus brands, followed by Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura. From a personal experience, my family's previous Japanese cars have been to the workshop lesser than the current VW during the first three years of ownership. Audi deserves a pat on the back for moving up to 8th in ranking, a huge improvement from the 26th position in 2011.
  11. [extract] Storied tuner and engine builder, Cosworth, is known for its involvement in performance motors and also in the Formula One. Cosworth is best known for its long affiliation with Ford but they have also worked with other automakers such as Subaru. Cosworth was a major player in the Formula One for many years but somehow their involvement in Formula One ended in 2006 when they lost the contract to supply their engines to Formula One racing cars. And now, it seems that the company

  13. The Ford Focus RS is one mean performance machine. In standard form, the car delivers 300bhp with 440Nm of torque and it can complete the century sprint in less than six seconds. For those who crave for more power, they can opt for the Ford Focus RS500. Its power has been upgraded to 345bhp with a torque of 460Nm and with a 0-100km/h timing of 5.6 seconds. Now it seems that the next standard Ford Focus RS will be even more powerful than the previous model's top grade sub-model. It is reported that the new model will get 350bhp, a whopping 50bhp from the previous generation model. Earlier reported this year, the car was said to get around 320bhp but the automaker has managed to churn out a little more. All that power will come from Ford
  14. Although GM and Ford are rivals in the automotive industry, these American car makers are collaborating to develop 9 to 10-speed automatic transmissions. This is not the first of their partnership though. In 2002, they cooperated to create a new automatic transaxle, designed for transverse engine applications in cars and light trucks. According to reports, GM will be in charge of designing a 9-speed gearbox for front-wheel drive cars while Ford will take the lead in developing a 10-speed transmission for rear-wheel drive cars such as SUVs, performance vehicles and pick-ups. Cars with a larger number of gear selections enable the engine to operate more efficiently, thus reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. GM and Ford are not alone in the quest for additional gear ratios. Hyundai is already working on a 10-speed automatic transmission that will be used on a range of Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the future, particularly luxury models. It is scheduled to hit the showroom in 2014. If the collaboration proves to be a success, GM and Ford, the world's second and fifth largest car maker respectively, will be able to enjoy great economy of scale due to the sheer volume of their annual output. According to IHS Automotive powertrain analyst, David Petrovski, GM and Ford benefit from reduced investment risk by working together. By developing their own gearbox instead of purchasing them from manufacturers such as ZF and paying license fees, a car maker can reduce their cost of production.

[extract] Ford of Europe has an interesting method to boost sales. The dealers sold cars to each other, without having actual customer orders. Dealers eventually sell the cars as used vehicles at huge discounts. This has artificially boosted car sales by up to 30%. Even more interestingly, Ford

  19. Just when you thought how Ford manage to squeeze 123bhp out of the tiny 3-cylinder 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine, Superchips, a British company specialising in electronic engine tuning, upped the ante. Through an engine control unit (ECU) upgrade, the UK firm managed to boost the output of the engine to 145bhp at 6,169 rpm and 227Nm of torque at 2,656 rpm. This is done by rewriting the ignition, fuelling and boost control parameters of the Bosch MED17 engine management found in 1.0L turbocharged Focus. The British tuning firm claims that the remap will not cause the fuel consumption figure to fall below that of the standard 123bhp Focus as long as the car is driven in a

In the first instalment, I did mention two of my favourite movie cars which were the Ford Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch and the Mini 1000 from the show Mr. Bean. I will talk about these two cars in this final part of the article. Let us continue with this last instalment.
