  1. Hi, my dad is interested in these 2 cars. Just for an example of the exact spec and models, below are 2 links: C4 Focus As for the Focus, we are open to either the hatchback or the sedan version. Priorities are mainly reliability, fuel consumption and again, reliability. As he has spent almost 10k on repairs on his current car. I know for reliability, one should choose jap cars like toyota, honda etc. but my dad likes something different. I know these 2 models are quite low on power, but still drivable i guess. Read up abit and concluded that the focus is more of a fun car as in handling and the C4 is very comfortable. Any one can advise on any of these 2 models regarding reliability and maintainance issues? your feedback will very much be appreciated. Thanks!
  2. After General Motors (GM) decided to terminate its $10 million Facebook advertisement budget, rival Ford Motor quickly point out that the company is sticking by its commitment to the world's largest social network. Global head of social media for Ford, Scott Monty, tweeted that Ford believes Facebook advertisements are effective as part of a general strategy, but not as a "straight media buy". His comments seem to imply that GM does not know how to harness the effectiveness of social media fully. Ford has more than 1.5 million
  3. It is a sad moment when the news of an automotive legend passes away. This particular news is hard because it is Carroll Shelby and his name is synonymous with high performance sports and muscle cars, particularly with Ford. 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 He is a true gear head and was the mastermind behind the Shelby Cobra and the Shelby GT500. Carroll Shelby passed away in a Texas hospital with an unknown cause of death. He has been hospitalised for more than a month for pneumonia but he has a known long history of heart problems, including a heart transplant in 1990. Shelby is survived by his three children and his wife. Let us take a look at his illustrious career in the automotive industry. It is rather impossible to describe the impact Shelby has had on the automotive world. Born in 1923, Shelby only started racing in 1952 at the age of 29 and it was a quarter mile drag race. Later that year he won his first road race in an MG TC. By 1956, he had won many races and that earned him the title of Driver of the Year from Sports Illustrated and he won that title again in 1957. In 1959, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Aston Martin and he also competed in Formula One in 1958 and 1959. By the late 1950s, Shelby
  4. I need some feedback about this car, is it worth considering a 2nd hand Focus(yr 2006/7)? What is the FC and power of the 1.6L engine? Any known issue about this car or things which i need to take note when looking for a used one? Appreciate your advice.
  5. Hi , any advise on this 2 cars selection / info , thank you.
  6. The 2012 Geneva Motor Show has brought many automakers to the land famous for founding the Red Cross, chocolates, fine timepieces and etc. During this event, Ford has plenty to show the world what they have come up with. Other than the Fiesta ST, Tourneo concept van and the Kuga (or Escape), Ford has unveiled an important model which is the B-Max. You might ask; why is it important? Firstly, the B-Max targets the mini MPV market segment which has increased in popularity. A mini MPV is suitable for those who are looking for a car that provides extra space but not too large in overall dimensions (easy to manoeuvre around). And the B-Max offers not only that but something else that is rather innovative. The B-Max is based on the same platform used on the Fiesta and it does not have a B-pillar. Ford has emphasised that this feature is mainly for easy access into the rear seating area. How did Ford achieve this? This ingenious design integrates the central body pillars into the hinged front doors and the rear sliding doors. The usage of ultra high-strength steel for the integrated central body pillars offers five times more strength, if compared to the usage of ordinary mild steel. And Ford has ensured that this provides excellent crash protection especially from a side impact. This unique feature creates a wide opening which enables someone to load or unload bulky items and it is also useful for large sized passengers to move in and out of the rear passenger compartment. The B-Max is available with several petrol and engine types and the highlight is the all-new 1.0 litre, three cylinder engine from the EcoBoost engine family. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual- clutch transmission and it features a turbocharged direct injection and also a start-stop system. The Ford B-Max will go on sale in Europe later this year as a 2013 model. Photo credit: Net Car Show and Auto Blog

The hot hatch segment has grew rapidly over the last few years and today, these cars are able to deliver performance that was not imaginable in the small hatch segment roughly ten years ago. The performance of larger sized hot hatches are moving towards the sports car category and the space left behind are being taken up by a new generation of performance orientated subcompacts. And Ford has presented the all new 2013 Ford Fiesta ST as part of this new generation. Ford has released pictures of a production ready version of the 2013 Ford Fiesta which the company will unveil during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It is confirmed that the car will be launched first in the European market by 2013. The previous Fiesta ST was last offered in 2008 and fans of the car were clamouring for a new model ever since. Ford didn
  8. Performance cars usually rely on large displacement engines that deliver high power. But technologies such as turbocharging and direct injection have changed things nowadays and Ford is looking at a more powerful version of its 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine. Ford officially introduced its 1.0 litre turbocharged three cylinder EcoBoost engine late last year. It was developed by Ford engineers in the United Kingdom and the engine generates around 123bhp. The engine will be used in the Ford Focus and a 100bhp version will be introduced in Ford models such as the C-Max, Grand C-Max and B-Max. Normally, we won

  14. For years, the Detroit Three have moved production out of their U.S plants to avoid the high cost of union labor. In October 2011, Ford Motor Co. signed a tentative labor contract with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union that partly reverses that trend. The new four-year contract includes adding 12,000 hourly jobs at its U.S facilities over the next four years as a result of relocation of production from Mexico, Japan and China back to America. The move by Ford has earned itself praises from no less than the US President himself, Barack Obama. Mr Obama sited Ford as an example of companies that are bringing jobs back to the US and contributing to the growth of its economy. At the same time, he also credited the effort to the UAW for making the deal possible. In the next few weeks, the President plans to introduce new tax proposals to reward companies that are investing in the US and cut tax breaks for companies that are moving their operations out of the US. An underutilized factory in Flat Rock, Michigan will help build the next generation Fusion mid-sized car that to date has been produced only in Mexico. Another Ford plant in Kentucky will assemble commercial vans that the company now builds in Turkey. All of the new hires are expected to earn slightly more than half of what the veteran auto workers get. This is to ensure that the US is cost competitive against its foreign rivals.
  15. Many people know what a station wagon is. Basically, it is a sedan car with its roof extended towards the rear and the rear boot is usually replaced with a lifting tail door. The station wagon comes in two distinct design; a four door (the most common design that we get to see) and a two door which is also known as a shooting brake. Many automakers give unique names for their station wagon versions. For example, Volkswagen names their station wagons as Variants. Other than that, we have heard of other version names for station wagons such as estate, carryall, touring, sportwagon and etc. But the most common names used are the station wagon, estate and shooting brake. If you are wondering how these 3 names come about, then read on. Back in the early era of the automotive industry, the first station wagons people got to see were the wooden-bodied Ford Model Ts and at that time there were known as
  16. Many of us know what a muscle car is. But do we really know the factors that place a certain car in the muscle car category? Initially I thought that I knew so much about muscle cars but after reading a certain book about these cars, I became more knowledgeable and some of the so called facts that I previously thought were true are actually not. And now I would like to share them with you. 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible There are many varying opinions on what qualifies as a muscle car but before I touch on that let us see what does not qualify as a muscle car. First of all, it is not a piece of Italian exotic, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc, nor it is a German performance car (Porsche, etc.). Even a British make sports car would not fit the bill (although there were muscle cars from other countries later on). All the abovementioned cars are too complex, specialised or efficient. Sports cars are not really considered as a muscle car. So, what really qualifies as a muscle car? It is essentially a North American phenomenon; in other words, in the beginning, it should be American made. The basic concept of a muscle car is taking a mid-sized American 2-door car and put in a large displacement V8 engine. The car itself should not be complex, upmarket or fancy. And usually, it should have a rear seating arrangement. 1966 Dodge Charger The muscle car concept is as simple as that. Furthermore in the beginning, the people who are interested in muscle cars are usually young and men. They are not interested in technical sophistication, excellent handling and even top speed. 1970 Dodge Challenger To the American youth of that time who were raised on drag racing, traffic lights street racing and hot-rodding, the most important factors to them were the size of the engine, horsepower and acceleration. In other words, all that they care about is straight line speed. 1958 Ford Thunderbird And when the big 3 American car manufacturers realised about this increasing trend among the youth, the companies started a power race to offer big engine displacements, huge horsepower and lesser seconds over the standing quarter. 1957 Chrysler 300C Before the era of muscle cars, the usage of V8 engines was already pretty rife during the 1950s. Companies like Ford and Chrysler all had their cars fitted with their V8 engines, for example the Ford Thunderbird and Chrysler 300. Their size were too big to place them in the muscle car category. Anyway, at that time the term muscle car has not been known or created. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Although at that time these cars were not considered as muscle cars but they had one thing in common; they were built for powerful performance and this is one of the factors that the American youth of that time desired for a mid-sized, lighter-shelled car with big, powerful engines. 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Conventionally, many would say or argue that the 1965 Pontiac GTO (top most picture) was the first true muscle car. 2-door mid-sized American car, huge V8 engine and it sits four people; all fits into the muscle car category. It also began a new car class that offered an affordable and stunning performance package. 1964 Ford Mustang The plan and idea for the GTO nearly did not happen. It came about when in 1963, General Motors would not produce overtly sporty cars and Pontiac was restricted with a standard 300 cu inch (4.8 litre) engine for their intermediate sized cars. And this upset some of their managers and engineers as Pontiac has always been a performance car marque and these same people are also fans of fast cars. 1968 Ford Torino GT FastBack These same people (one of them was John DeLorean who founded the DeLorean company) also felt that the only way to sell cars was by producing image-building cars and eventually the GTO plan went ahead. Before I continue, let me add that GM made all sorts of parts (engine, chassis, etc.) for NASCAR racing and they were road legal at that time. These parts were, at times, used for their production models. Pontiac fitted a 6.375 litre V8 engine together with a mix-and-match of existing parts and assembled them on the production line. This resulted in the GTO, made for truly affordable performance and the GTO fits into the muscle car concept, huge V8 engine in a smaller-sized car and it also started the trend. Other automakers soon followed with their own versions of this new car trend. Ford had its Mustang and Torino models, Dodge came out with the Charger and Challenger and Chevy had its Camaro and Chevelle models. Some people would argue that some of the models I mentioned above are in the pony car category but some of the pony car models are qualified to be in the muscle car category due to the dealer options available for those pony cars (huge V8 engines, etc.). As long as it fits the muscle car bill, many would regard it as one. 1968 Holden Monaro Earlier on I did mention about muscle cars manufactured outside of America. Cars like the Australian Ford Falcon and Holden Monaro fits the muscle category. But sadly, some muscle car purists do not consider these cars to be a muscle car due to them not being American made. 1972 Ford Falcon XA GT After the decline of the muscle car era during the 1970s (due to the oil crisis) there have been a resurgence in the muscle car category. Models like the Mustang, Charger and Camaro still remains till today and as long as the demand is there, we will get to see more of these cars. 18. [extract] Let us continue in this second instalment of iconic vehicles from the movies and TV shows. Herbie VW Beetle from The Love Bug Herbie is an anthropomorphic Volkswagen Beetle that was featured in the Love Bug movie franchise. The character has a mind of its own and basically it can do anything it wants, for example driving on its own. The romantic comedy is about a struggling race car driver who, after a racing crash, went out to look for a replacement race car. He eventually bought a white VW Beetle after visiting a showroom and at one point of the movie; he was convinced that the car had a mind of its own. The rest of the movie tells the adventures of the driver and his companions

Right now, it is an automobile marque under the Chrysler group. But before this, do you know that it was once known as the Willys Jeep and how did the name Jeep came about? Back in 1941, when Willys-Overland started making Jeeps, there was no such thing as
  20. Ford Fiesta RS WRC takes 1-2-3 at Rally Sweden! "Mikko Hirvonen has won Rally Sweden for the second time in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC following a thrilling finish to the first event of the new season. The Finn beat Mads Ostberg in the final overall standings by 6.5s with Jari-Matti Larvala completing a Ford podium lockout."

  22. These have been around for years. Way before I was born and probably have seen much more of Singapore than I ever have. They are the land rovers of the SAF and I think they are awesome. I'm sure many of you blokes out there who have served NS have sat in the rover at least once. Whether you were "genging" during an exercise or you were a safety officer or a medic. These rovers have survived for over 20 years and they're still going strong. The distinctive revving of the diesel powered engine and the unforgettable rattle within the cabin and that musky smell of the outfield environment lingers on the PVC seats and the interior floor. All this has added to the character of the old horse. The thing I like about it most is the 'jump starter' port like thingy where the drivers can attach the jump leads to start up another one of it's comrades.. It looks like the people who brought the Rover to life knew that one day it's definitely going to need a jump start so they made it more convenient! These rovers deserve the recognition of the public after the many years that they have powered our radio sets, transported injured soldiers, provided a haven for drivers who needed much needed rest outfield and slowly, they will be retired along with all the memories within them. And now they're being replaced with the new Ford Everest which is undoubtedly cool but I think it has yet to explore the 'far ends' of our island before they can attain the soul and character that the Land Rover did.
