"Upon SCDF's arrival, a body was seen floating in the water," it said. "SCDF rescuers retrieved the body from the surface of the water. "The person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic." Police added that it does not suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.

The video, recorded on an officer's body camera and made public on Tuesday, shows sheriff's deputies in Cummings, Georgia discovering the infant tied up in a bag and left by a roadside the night of June 6. They were responding to a caller claiming they heard a baby crying in the woods. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office "is continuing to investigate & follow leads" regarding the baby, whom they have named India, said the department on Twitter. "By releasing the body cam footage from the discovery of Baby India we hope to receive credible info & find closure." They added that India is "thriving." In the video, a deputy can be heard reassuring the baby as he unwraps her from the plastic bag, saying, "Look at you, sweetheart! Oh, I'm so sorry... look how precious you are." He then hands her to medical first responders, who perform first aid on the infant before wrapping her in a blanket. Authorities have been looking for the girl's mother since June 6, taking to Twitter to ask if anyone in the area knows "a female who was in late stages of pregnancy." Many also took to Twitter to share information about "safe haven" laws, which allow women to leave unharmed infants at designated locations -- such as police stations or hospitals -- without prosecution, thereby making the children wards of the state, so as to prevent another infant getting abandoned. "Omg, the poor thing! Glad she is safe and doing well now," one woman tweeted. Another tweeted she "broke out in tears" when she saw the video because it reminded her of her own infant granddaughter.

The lift stops on the eighth floor. But there is a ninth. To get there, people enter an office pantry on the eighth storey, key in a password on a keypad on the wall, and a door - disguised as a display shelf - unlocks. Behind it are two flights of stairs. Go up, and one finds an entire floor spanning over 5,000 sq ft. In what is the first known case of its kind in Singapore, a light industrial building in Alexandra Road has been discovered to have illegally included a hidden floor. The size of eight three-room HDB flats, it boasts various living spaces with workstations, beds, a kitchen and a meeting room. The hidden floor came to light last week when the authorities, acting on a tip-off, conducted inspections of The Alexcier. The Building and Construction Authority, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told The Sunday Times that the floor is "unauthorised". They will be taking enforcement action against those responsible. A strata-certified plan of The Alexcier obtained by The Sunday Times showed that there are supposed to be only eight storeys and one basement in the multi-use light industrial B1 building. It was built by local developer Chiu Teng Group in 2005. A company director of Chiu Teng Group, reached via phone, declined comment. He did not give his name. The boss of the company that owns the eighth-floor unit admitted to The Sunday Times that it had built the extra space above. It has been owned by real estate investment firm ZACD Investments since 2008, and is now leased to property and asset management company ZACD Posh. Both are under the ZACD Group, which hires some 300 employees. Mr Stanley Yeo, ZACD Group co-founder and group chief executive officer, said: "It's not an additional floor. It's a racking system. We built it four to five years ago for storage purposes. It's only about 3,000 to 4,000 sq ft." A racking system is a shelving storage system, similar to what furniture retailer Ikea uses to store large items at its pickup hall. The hidden ninth floor at The Alexcier boasts various living spaces with workstations, beds, a kitchen and a meeting room. But The Sunday Times understands that the ninth floor is as big as the eighth-floor unit, which is about 5,200 sq ft, excluding a rooftop terrace. A video of SCDF officers inspecting the clandestine unit last Tuesday shows that it - unlike a racking system - is constructed like an enclosed floor, with interior fittings. Some business owners working in the same building said they had no inkling that there was a ninth floor. But they had suspected that people were living on the eighth floor after seeing foreigners taking the cargo lift to it late at night. One business owner who asked not to be named said: "A few years ago, the security guards were already talking about people living on the eighth floor. They were told by the owner to let these people into the building. Some of them are foreigners. About 15 to 18 of them come here after 10.45pm every night." But Mr Yeo insisted that no one was living on the ninth floor, which he said was solely used as storage space. The furniture there, including beds, was previously used in his company showroom, he said. As for the workstations, he said he had moved up some of the computers from the eighth floor after his company's IT system was hacked. "Nobody lives there, but we have people who work overtime and overnight. We have a software engineering business and people work late. They are not there most of the time. Only once in a while," said Mr Yeo. He added that he has been told by SCDF that his additional structure is not compliant and he will be sealing off the stairway later this month. ZACD Posh is moving out of the unit to an office at Spring Singapore because it is cutting down on some operations, said Mr Yeo. A potential foreign investor who viewed it recently said she was not told that there was an extra floor in the unit, even though she had questioned the eighth-floor unit's low ceiling given that the roof looked high from the exterior. When The Sunday Times visited the premises last Friday, things were already packed in boxes. The architect of The Alexcier said that he designed it with eight floors. Mr Chng Beng Guan, managing director of 3HPArchitects, added that it would not have passed inspections by the authorities ahead of getting its Temporary Occupation Permit if there was a ninth floor then. The illicitly constructed floor means that the owners had dodged paying a development charge to the URA. Based on the current rate of $3,850 per sq m for the sector that The Alexcier is located in, Mr Yeo should have paid over $1 million for the additional floor area if it had been approved. But for others, the discovery of the ninth floor has also raised questions about the building's structural soundness, given the additional load that may not have been factored in from the get-go. A former member of the building's management council, who asked not to be named, said: "We have been holding our meetings in the eighth-floor unit all these years and none of us knew about this ninth floor. "This is a safety issue that the authorities need to address quickly." The illicitly constructed floor means that the owners had dodged paying a development charge to the URA. Based on the current rate of $3,850 per sq m for the sector that The Alexcier is located in, Mr Yeo should have paid over $1 million for the additional floor area if it had been approved. The Alexcier's architect, Mr Chng, said the eighth floor - which comes with a 6.5m-high ceiling - will be able to take the extra load "because that was designed for an industrial racking system which is to take a lot of goods". Experts not related to the building are mixed in their views on whether the extra floor will pose any risk. Engineer David Ng, a member of The Institution of Engineers, Singapore's civil and structural technical committee, said an unauthorised extra floor would usually not have been taken into consideration in the design of building foundation and supporting columns. "This additional loading could result in a reduction of the required design factor of safety and if the additional load is significant, it may cause the supporting structure to be overstressed." Mr Albert Loh, who runs a structural, civil and mechanical engineering consultancy firm, said that "the biggest danger is getting the wrong person" to add in the extra floor. "If so, the floor is unsafe." Guys please check if you bought strawberries from Australia --------- Australians have been warned to cut fresh strawberries before biting into them after several people found sewing needles hidden inside the fruit. Contaminated punnets have been reported in supermarkets in the states of New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. One man was taken to hospital after eating a strawberry with a needle inside. A nine-year old boy bit into a contaminated fruit but did not swallow. Several brands of strawberries have been withdrawn. These include Donnybrook strawberries and those sold by the Woolworths Group under the Berry Obsession and Berry Licious names. AsiaOne Wednesday, Nov 23, 2011 SINGAPORE - A highly decomposed body of a man was found at Pandan Reservoir this morning, reported the Lianhe Wanbao. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at about 9.10am informing them that a body had been found in the reservoir. Officers got to the scene and pronounced the man dead at about 9.17am. According to the Chinese daily, the man has been identified as a 30-year-old Chinese national. His body was highly decomposed and is believed to have been undiscovered for several days. He was found floating face-down by a PUB staff who was conducting checks around the area. The deceased was wearing an orange coloured T-shirt and jeans. Police are still investigating the case. Members of the public who have any information that can assist the police should call 1800-2550000. This is the most recent case in a spate of deaths discovered at Bedok Reservoir. A SAF regular died in Nee Soon Camp Yahoo news: SAF regular found dead at Nee Soon Camp A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular of Military Expert 2 (ME2) rank is believed to have died at Nee Soon Camp on Friday morning. Yahoo Singapore understands the deceased, whose name has not been revealed, was a senior course instructor from the SAF’s Medical Training Institute. He is believed to have hanged himself. It is not clear if the deceased was pronounced dead at Nee Soon Camp or elsewhere. An ambulance, CID (Criminal Investigation Department) vehicle, five police cars, and military police were spotted by an eyewitness at Nee Soon Camp around the time of the incident, said to be 8.15am. Of late, my last few checks on my engine oil dipstick showed that my engine oil level has increased. This was first discovered about a month ago. There are 2 tips on the dipstick. I noticed that since last month, the oil level has exceeded the upper tip of the dipstick. First check was in the morning when the engine was cold for more than 8 hours since the car was parked the night before. Did 2 further checks over the course of last few weeks. Level was above the upper tip. The increase was not slightly or too much during those cold or room temperature. There was also no oil leakage found. However, when the car was driven and parked for a few hours, the oil level exceeded the upper tip by a bigger length (of course engine was still slightly hot and this is understandable). Not sure whether this should be cause for concern. I know that if oil level drops, we need to take note or go workshop to top up by the same grade and brand engine oil. But for my case, it increases..... I am using OWS NA engine oil. No grade was stated. First time trying this oil. Been using it for more than 8,500km mileage. My car's mileage is more than 86,000 km. Hope to have some views from knowledgeable bros in this forum. Thanks!

SINGAPORE - Debris containing a potentially toxic mineral was recently found on St John's Island, leading the authorities to seal off more than half of the island as a safety precaution. I have lost my hp (it was set to silent mode) for a few weeks. Later found it under the sofa cushion coz i napped there and dropped it. Small case. Another case: Lost car remote key. Ended up paying few hundred bucks to get a replacement from AD. Later, about few months after that, found the original key in my jacket which i wore for a wedding dinner and never wore for a long time after that. Few years back, lost my other hp in Kobe local shopping malls. Only realised it an hour later in another mall. Traced back my walk in the few malls i visited and narrowed down to a bench outside a electrical shop. It's a chicken / duck talking thing when I 'asked' the shop keepers in english mixed with sign language about my lost hp. Somehow she managed to communicate with me that i should go to the nearest polis post to check. (my 3-month basic japanese lessons taken before the trip helped a little). She was polite and patient. Managed to walk 10 mins to the said polis post and chicken and duck again with the middle age polisman sitting inside. He was stern but managed to let me know he needed proof i was the owner of the phone it someone ever foundand passed it to him. Suddenly i remembered passing a tourist info post nearby few hours ago and there was a syt who spoke english. Ran over to her for help. She was nice and helpful, spoke to the policeman on phone. My wife had the same desktop family picture on her hp like mine. So syt suggested i show my wife hp and its desktop picture to Mr Policeman as proof of ownership of my lost hp. Rushed back to Mr Policeman who looked bored coz that day his police post bo sing lee. After he took more than a minute to examine wife hp's desktop picture, he then slowly opened his drawer and took out a hp --- it;s MINE!! Later, we found out Mr Policeman had the lost hp in his drawer even before i first saw him and he did recognise my face in the desktop picture. But he just wanted to understand 100% sure the woman in the family picture was indeed my wife! The syt from the tourist info post 200m away was the vital link which explained everything to Mr Policeman and linked everything in two languages.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, Mindef said First Warrant Officer (1WO) Rajendran Pachemuthu,51, was found hanging from a rope in the Lentor training area by two civilian contractors who were maintaining SAF training equipment. There was no SAF training conducted in the area in the last two days, Mindef added. The contractors reported the incident to Master Warrant Officer Ong Chin Sai, a commander from Engineers Training Institute, who headed to the site and made a police report at 12:20 pm.
