  2. Some months back I bought four V12 tires from Hankook's Kaki Bukit outlet. Today I went back there for tyre rotation. For straight forward front to back/back to front rotation, they charge $15. However as my tires wear on the inner edge (especially the front), I requested that the front tires be swop to the opposite side and place at the rear, and the back tires moved to the front (no swop). This is to even out the wear so that the tires last. Obviously I am aware that two of my tires need to be removed from and remounted on the wheels and that involves extra work and cost. The staff at Kaki Bukit tried to discourage me giving reasons that the side wall is susceptible to damage if removed from the wheel. I do not accept the reason and insist on my way. Now they quoted me an extra $40 to do that on top of the $15 originally chargeable. As I felt that this is is way too expensive (I have done rotation in this manner before at a much cheaper rate elsewhere) but because since the tires were bought from them and I am already there, I tired negotiating for a lower charge. They insisted that that is their rate and will not barge. I suggested that they speak with their boss but only to get the reply that Robert is traveling. Since they refuse to pick up the phone to call their head office, I decided to call their Hotline instead. The hotline leads to the main outlet at Woodlands. At the other end of the line, is the sound of a Malay man who spoke english. I describe to him my issue and ask for a cheaper rate but he insisted on his rate and instead told me to go elsewhere. I was mad hearing that and ask for his name because I find that is very rude to come from a customer service hotline. He ignored me and hung up on me. On hearing my conversation, the Kaki Bukit staff (a PRC girl) agreed that her colleague's attitude was poor but stop short of an apology. I left the shop fuming, not because they refuse to give me a cheaper rate but because of the extremely bad service attitude from the hotline. Robert, if you are reading this post, I want to say I am utterly disappointed with Hankook's poor service attitude. You can insist on your charges but it is also a customer's right to bargain. If no agreement, at most I walk out. But to have your customer service staff telling me to take the business elsewhere when I have brought the business to you, is downright rude and unacceptable. Not forgetting that he refuse to divulge his name when I ask for it and he hung up the phone on me. Hankook has a good product but with such service attitude, I won't buy Hankook again.
  3. Saw many good deals for car accessories in dinodirect.com and tempted to buy but also saw many negative comments about them, anyone here has any bad experiences? Thanks in advance
  4. A taxi driver was jailed for four weeks and banned from driving all vehicles for five years on Wednesday for causing the death of an elderly pedestrian through his negligence. Sum Lai Thou, 61, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Madam Choy Yip Hian, 75, by failing to keep a proper lookout along Serangoon Road on Dec 15, 2011. The court heard that Madam Choy had jaywalked across the road when Sum's taxi hit her while travelling at a continuous speed of 70 to 80 kph. The impact caused Madam Choy to be flung some 10m ahead. 5. Former Workers Party candidate for Nee Soon GRC Mr Sajeev Kamalasanan has resigned from the Workers Party last night by emailing his resignation letter to WP Secretary-General Low Thia Kiang and Chairman Sylvia Lim. In a press statement emailed to The Temasek Times, Mr Rajeev wrote he was disappointed that WP did not make him a cadre despite his substantial contributions to the party. “I am disappointed that the party has not been able to formally recognise my contributions, and going forward, I see little way in me playing a meaningful and constructive part within the party,” he wrote. Mr Rajeev added that he was roped in to contest in the General Election last year by Chairman Sylvia Lim in the last minute and he had expected to be named a cadre, but his name was omitted because he had stopped serving in Ms Lim’s Meet-the-People session. “I feel let down and betrayed by the WP leadership, in whom I had put my trust and faith in, and for whom I made substantial sacrifice by stepping forward to serve. I therefore have no choice but to part ways with WP,” he ended. Mr Sajeev is the fourth candidate to leave the Workers Party since last year’s General Election after former Hougang MP Yaw Shin Leong, former East Coast GRC candidate Mohamed Fazli Talip and WP veteran Eric Tan. His resignation came as the Workers Party is preparing for a by-election in Hougang after Mr Yaw was sacked for his failure to address swirling rumors around his alleged extramarital affairs with multiple women, including two prominent female leaders in the party. In response to queries from the media, WP Chairman Sylvia Lim questioned the timing of Mr Rajeev’s abrupt resignation and asked if there is need to air internal party matters publicly. ================================================================================ =================================== Full Press Statement by Sajeev Kamalasanan on Resignation from The Workers’ Party May 13, 2012 With immediate effect, I regret to announce my resignation as a member of The Workers’ Party (WP). The reason for my resignation is my dissatisfaction with the WP’s cadreship selection system. I joined WP as an ordinary member in 2006 following the 2006 General Elections, believing that the party was a credible and alternative voice for Singaporeans. Due to work and other commitments, I was, however, inactive and did not contribute to the party in any significant way until a phone call from the party’s Chairman, Ms Sylvia Lim, about six weeks before the 2011 General Elections. The party was looking to field an Indian candidate in Nee Soon GRC and Ms Sylvia requested me to step forward. It was an unexpected but important request and after due consideration, I turned her down as I felt that I was not the right person for it. However, Ms Sylvia persisted, saying that the party was in urgent need for an Indian candidate for this GRC (the two other Indian candidates Mr Pritam Singh and Mr Somasundaram were fielded for Aljunied and Moulmein-Kallang GRCs). I finally relented as I agreed with her vision of doing something worthwhile for our country and democracy. With my wife’s support, I immediately put all my family and work commitments aside and got right into the campaign and electioneering foray. The WP Nee Soon GRC team went on to clinch a respectable 41.6% of the votes and I was happy to have played a part in giving Nee Soon residents the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the general elections. After the general elections, I was selected to be a member for the Aljunied Constituency Committee (AJCC) - Serangoon Division, under Ms Sylvia Lim. Every week, I helped out at her (Meet-the-People sessions) MPS and was also roped into the division’s grassroots events. The highlight of my contribution was when I was given the responsibility of a Chairperson for the Aljunied GRC’s first Deepavali event celebration in 2011. At the party level, I was also active at the weekend Hammer sales. Around CNY 2012, I had to stop my volunteer work at her MPS sessions as I started attending a part time course which coincided with the day and timing of the MPS sessions. While I never did expect any formal recognition for my contributions towards the party, I was disappointed to see most of the 2011 ex-candidates and ordinary members around me being nominated and given party cadreship quite easily following the general elections. I had also heard from existing cadre members that Ms Sylvia had privately made reference to a group of “problematic” ex-candidates that are not given cadreship and I started wondering if I was one of them. I finally questioned Ms Sylvia about why she never considered nominating me for party cadreship and was not satisfied with her explanations: 1) That it has been the party’s experience that Indians tend to leave after getting party cadreship; and 2) That (she had wanted to nominate me but) I had abruptly stopped contributing at her MPS sessions. I feel that it is unfair to consider all Indians as uncommitted to the party and if this has been WP’s experience, the right thing for WP is to reflect on what it might be doing to contribute to this and perhaps arrest this problem if it considers and aspires itself to be the alternative voice of all Singaporeans. With this mindset, I see no possibility of me being able to play any meaningful and constructive part in the party, save for being a showpiece for the minority candidate ticket come elections time. I feel let down and betrayed by the WP leadership, in whom I had put my trust and faith in, and for whom I made substantial sacrifice by stepping forward to serve. I therefore have no choice but to part ways with WP. Thank you. Sajeev Kamalasanan
  6. Dear car owners and potential car owners, Just to share my personal bad experience with all of you. I recently purchased my car from CAR LINK ENTERPRISE C2 located at Turf City. The unit is C2. Upon viewing of the vehicle, the front compartment lock came off at the first instance when I open the compartment. The sales person by the name of ANDY immediately told me they will send it for repair and ensure that the lock is fix upon collection of my vehicle. I took his words since they are doing a business and would not want to tarnish their reputation over a car compartment issue. I paid a deposit and cleared all the paper works and drove off the vehicle. On that very SAME day, while I tried to open the compartment, the locked came off again! I realised that CAR LINK had simply use some glue to stick back the lock and hand the vehicle over to me. I was shocked by their dishonest behaviour and immediately called up Andy to ask him why the device is still not fix. He told me that this is due to wear and tear and is unavoidable! He then refer me to a workshop at woodlands and when the mechanic saw me, he said immediately that if the issue is regarding the COMPARTMENT lock, please don't bother to come because it is BEYOND repair! I ask him how could he say that when Andy the sales person from Car Link Enterprise refer me here. He told me he was the one that service the vehicle and the lock issue is a KNOWN issue all along and there is nothing he can do. I will have to call back ANDY to resolve this because the only way is to REPLACE THE ENTIRE COMPARTMENT WHICH COST $500-600! I was really fuming because I took time off from work and travel to woodlands only to know that is a waste trip and ANDY is simply trying to waste time on the issue! I immediately call him and ask him why a businessman like him with a big shop want to cheat on such issues and his irresponsible words really shock me and I ask him if he is going to be responsible for this issue and he said that he will check with his BOSS and call me back. The call never come from him. I called Andy almost every alternate day and he will always repeat the same words "I NOT SURE, I NEED TO CHECK WITH BOSS. ... BOSS HAS NOT GET BACK TO ME.... It has been more than 2 weeks and he is still using the same delay tactic to shun away my problem. I told him that we are just car buyers and you are opening a business here. This kind of unethical approach is really lousy and dishonest! I told him if he is going to drag this matter, there is nothing I can do except to warn fellow buyers NOT TO FALL INTO THIS TRAP and shun away from CAR LINK. Until now I still have not hear anything from CAR LINK ENTERPRISE C2 on the compensation of my compartment lock. If they decide to play punk and avoid me, there is nothing I can do except to educate and keep fellow buyers aware of their UNETHICAL APPROACH IN DOING BUSINESS. Attached is the shop photo which I personally went down and took. Pls note that this thread is meant to warn and share with fellow buyers not to patronise this dishonest car dealer and I welcome CAR LINK ENTREPRISE to response and challenge my thread if you are gentleman enough although I don't pin any hope. Regards,

  8. Wonder anyone heard or even using this brand of solar film (power cool) from JB. I was quoted RM 380 for doing only e front windscreen. Alternatively RM 680 for the whole car (6 wind-screen for a saloon car). As e remaining 5 wind-screen are with solar film hence to 'tear' it off before putting up e new solar film, they will charge RM 80. Any comment on what mentioned about? Thanks

  10. Would you buy an engagement ring from a pawn shop? (and would you tell you fiancee?) Please explain / justify your answer. Just asking out of curiosity. If the ring is in a pawnshop then it is one of four situations a) Divorce (eww - how much bad luck is that for you?) b) Theft (hmm - you might have to give it back) c) Death - (You wanna wear a dead persons ring?) d) Bad luck / bankruptcy etc etc (that can't bring you flowers and sunshine for your own marriage right?) On the plus side - you might get a great ring at a great price

  12. From ST: By Christopher Tan Car buyers will get a small reprieve as a planned cut in COE supply from August will now be more measured. In an announcement following Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew's pronouncement on mitigating the COE supply crunch early this month, the Land Transport Authority announced three measures. One, the planned cut of allowable annual vehicle population growth rate will stay at the current 1.5 per cent till next February, when it will go down to 0.5 per cent. This rate, which is one of the determinants of COE supply, was originally to be cut from 1.5 to 0.5 per cent from August. Two, the claw-back of oversupplied COEs made in 2008 and 2009 will be further deferred to July 2013 - a delay of one year. The claw-back, which has been responsible for an average 7 per cent reduction in COE supply each month, will resume in August 2013. Three, the Open COE category will shrink. Currently, 25 per cent of certificates from each of the four other COE categories go towards making up the supply of Open COEs.
  13. It shows that the poor really do get the help needed. $800/month for unemployed is huge, even more than those cleaners. I think it's the sandwich-class who are working that really need some attention. Not in the form of hand out, but like more effective control in inflation and curb in rising property price.

  16. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...518-346619.html The Star/Asia News Network Friday, May 18, 2012 PUTRAJAYA - Beginning June 1, foreign visitors to Malaysia are no longer required to fill in the Immigration Disembarkation Card, commonly known as the IMM.26 Form. They only need to produce their passports upon entering the country. Home Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said the procedure was no longer required following the introduction of the biometric recording system by the Immigration Department. The system records the data of foreigners through the National Enforcement Registration System (NERS). Mahmood said NERS, which was introduced on June 1 last year, fulfilled the Tourism Ministry's requirement to record the data of foreign tourists to Malaysia.
  17. place : simei street 3, in front of changkat primary school. source : CAR B. CAR A was rushing?? and wanted to overtake CAR B on simei st 3. (in front of CGH towards simei mrt) however, the road was quite crowded and CAR A was unable to overtake CAR B. worse still, an ambulance exited CGH infront of CAR B and CAR B stopped to give way to the ambulance. that made CAR A even more angry ! and when CAR A finally squeezed up beside CAR B, CAR A stayed beside CAR B - to show him the "finger!!" CAR B reportedly ignored the gesture. However, after the "finger", CAR A saw a bus had stopped in front of him and CAR A still wanted to overtake CAR B and made a sudden swerve infront of CAR B but still swiped CAR B side in the process. but the climax was after the bus stop was a traffic light and people were crossing the road. As CAR A had accelerated to cut between the bus and CAR B, he was unable to stop at the lights and ended up mounting the kerb and hitting a tree and some railings to avoid the pedestrians. note : all this while CAR A has a child in the car. this is from CAR B ... CAR A got any story ??

  20. After KPKBing & kicking the US forces outa both Clark Air Base & Subic Naval Base more than two decades back, these fellas now have to eat humble pie & continue to bug Unker Sam for more arms especially after a humiliating encounter with PRC vessels at their own backyard recently. Even if they are to get their hands on the latest arms, I don't for a sec think they will have the nerve to go against the PLA forces when the push comes to a shove. Still the Americans will only be too glad that their proxies such as the Pinoys are doing all the dirty work based on some treaties to keep the PRC busy... Just hope some cool heads will keep matters from being blown outa hand. 21. I'm currently a Iphone user. If I get a Iphone 4S or 5, I can easily transfer everything from Outlook to Iphone 4S. But as for Galaxy note, I wonder whether can the data be easily transferred to Galaxy Note via Outlook or you need special tools, and whether the transferred is 100% complete. A part from the bigger screen, why do you prefer Galaxy Notes over Iphone?
