  1. What does it mean that to use internal ventilation system? Roof Roof rack? No. Putting your roof rack on only when you need it could save you up to 5% more fuel. Tyres Tyre pressure If your tyres are under inflated by just 1psi, fuel efficiency can be reduced by up to 3%. So check tyres once a week or whenever you fill up. Fuel tank Check fuel cap Simply make sure your cap is properly screwed on after every fill up. This prevents fuel, and effectively your money, from evaporating. Drive smoothly Don
  2. Hello Bro n Sis Has anyone got a portable fuel tank? I read that Autobacs are selling portable fuel tanks in sizes of 5L, 10L and even 20L. What is the ruling bringing fuel tank to JB and back ? Thanks for you opinion

  7. Wednesday November 28, 11:01 PM Toyota to recall 264,000 cars to repair fuel pipes Japanese car giant Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it was recalling about 264,000 cars in Japan and abroad to repair defective fuel pipes. It will recall 215,020 Crown, Mark X and Lexus sedans at home and some 49,000 Lexus GS and IS series cars abroad, mainly in the United States, Britain and Canada. The cars were produced over the two years to December 2005, Toyota said in a statement. Of the total sold in Japan, 139,890 were from the Toyota's Crown series and 70,706 from the Mark X series, while 4,424 were Lexus cars. The statement said the fuel pipes were improperly bent and could develop minute cracks, causing fuel leaks in the worst case scenario. Some 39 defects have been reported by drivers but no accidents. It is the latest in a string of recent recalls by Toyota, which has seen its reputation for quality dented as it races to overtake US rival General Motors as the world's top selling automaker. In mid-October, Toyota recalled more than 470,000 cars of eight models in Japan due to problems with the fuel and steering systems. by AFP
  8. Dear SG Car forum bros and sis, As of today, i happen to installed the above gauges however, i face some issues as below: Oil temp gauge not reading from the sensor? Reading shows 0 throughout. Air/fuel
  9. Anyone had this problem before? It cause the lid to be able to open but not close unless I pull the lever and have someone push the lid close before I release it to lock it. This is due to the stopper being too far out. If possible I do not want to return to agent as it is very far from my place. And no, not any workshop can do the job. I've visited 3 workshops today, all told me they don't repair that (or maybe they just don't know how to). Anyone experience this and got it fixed by third party workshop?
  10. From July 1, car buyers who want to buy a car model with better fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions will find it easier to do so with help from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) which is going to launch three new initiatives. In preparation for the Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle (CEV) scheme, the LTA will take over the administration of the Fuel Economy Labelling Scheme (FELS) from the National Environment Agency, a LTA spokesman said on Wednesday. The new initiatives include a fuel economy label which will highlight the model's carbon emissions per km, fuel consumption and relative carbon emission performance. The label will also show the car banding under the upcoming scheme and corresponding rebate or surcharge to encourage consumers to shift to more fuel efficient and lower carbon emission models. A new brochure on the labelling scheme, aimed at buyers on the advantages of choosing fuel efficient cars, how to read the new fuel economy label, and the CEV scheme will be available at all car showrooms. 11. fuel leaks when full tank right after servicing at CnC went back to CNC and they told me my warranty was over for 2 months, cannot claim. so now either i get a new fuel tank for $2000 or I have to pay $200 for their inspection of the leak. KNN...... asked them what caused the leak, they say dono... will never step into CNC or buy another kia again...
  12. some cracks on the top, anyone knows any workshop that does fiber tank patching?

  14. I can do nearly 1000 km in a full tank (full all the way, can't pump anymore type0. I know for sure that my mileage is about 13.5-13.8 liter per km. But the official capacity for my car is 55 liters.... Some how, there's nearly another extra 15 liters some where...... A VW, in case you're wondering.
  15. If you own a car in our little sunny island, you would know about the exorbitant prices that the local petrol stations charge us. Even when oil prices go down a little, their petrol prices stays the same and there is nothing much we consumers can do about it. Would it be great if the engines in our cars can perform as per normal by using only about fifty percent of the regular fuel usage? You might think that this is something absurd or beyond the bounds of possibility but it might happen because an American company, Delphi, is developing an engine technology that could improve the fuel economy of petrol-powered cars by 50 percent. This would potentially rival the performance of hybrid vehicles while costing less. A test engine which is based on this idea is similar in some ways to a highly efficient diesel engine, but runs on petrol. The company has tested the technology in a single-piston test engine under various operating conditions. They have started testing the technology on a multi-cylinder engine which is close to a production engine. Its fuel economy estimates shows that engines based on this technology could be far more efficient than even diesel engines. These estimates are based on simulations of how a medium sized vehicle would perform with a multi-cylinder version of the new engine. The Delphi technology is the latest attempt by researchers to combine the best qualities of diesel and petrol engines. Diesel engines are 40 to 45 percent efficient in using the energy in fuel to propel a vehicle, compared to roughly 30 percent efficiency for petrol engines. But diesel engines are generally dirty and require expensive exhaust-treatment technology to meet emissions regulations. For decades, researchers have attempted to run diesel-like engines on petrol to achieve high efficiency with low emissions. Such engines might be cheaper than hybrid ones since they don't require a large battery and electric motor. In conventional petrol powered engines, a spark ignites a mixture of fuel and air. Diesel engines don't use a spark. Instead, they compress air until it's so hot that fuel injected into the combustion chamber soon ignites. Several researchers have attempted to use compression ignition with petrol, but it's proved challenging to control such engines, especially under the wide range of loads put on them as the car idles, accelerates, and cruises at various speeds. Delphi's approach, which is called petrol-direct-injection compression ignition, aims to overcome the problem by combining a collection of engine-operating strategies that make use of advanced fuel injection and air intake and exhaust controls, many of which are available on advanced engines today. For example, the researchers found that if they injected the petrol in three precisely timed bursts, they could avoid the rapid combustion that's made some previous experimental engines too noisy. At the same time, they could burn the fuel faster than in conventional petrol engines, which is necessary for getting the most out of the fuel. They used other strategies to help the engine perform well at extreme loads. For example, when the engine has just been started or is running at very low speeds, the temperatures in the combustion chamber can be too low to achieve combustion ignition. Under these conditions, the researchers directed exhaust gases into the combustion chamber to warm it up and facilitate combustion. The engineering manager of advanced powertrain technology at Delphi Powertrain suggests that the engine could be paired with a battery pack and electric motor, as in hybrid cars, to improve efficiency still more, although he also mentioned that it's not clear whether doing that would be worth the added cost. 16. Hi all bros and sisters. I am asking a stupid question but does anyone know how to unlock the fuel filler cap for pumping petrol? I used to own a honda - I only need to flip the lid to open. Thanks for any help!
  17. can anyone help recommend an auto euro van that has very good fuel economy. looking for a second hand one. preferably, low running costs, good reliability, has rear side windows so that i can put seats at the back. have turbo or no turbo better? also, just being curious, what might be the lowest running cost euro van, assuming yearly mileage of 20k km taking into consideration road tax, diesel, depreciation, maintenance cost, repair cost, and any other costs.

  19. hi, would like to find out more about normal cars with stick fuel pump. need advice from you guys. Am i correct to say stock fuel pump is not meant for always high rev cars? example like always 3.5rpm and above? While performance fuel pump is more suitable for always high rev? If so anyone knows any workshop or places where i can buy? Or i'm thinking too much? Actually fact is all the same?
  20. Can RON 92 be used in mitsubishi grandis (2005)? I do not have the car manual. Thank you.
  21. My guess is the fellow has been charged wrongly & paid someone's bill instead. Must make a point to note the pump number you pump your petrol from & confirm this before making payment at the counter. The most unlikely cause would be his fuel tank has a leak... In any case let's see what the dealer & petrol company response will be respectively. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...es_of_fuel.html Petrol kiosk bills driver for two extra litres of fuel STOMPer Don felt he was overcharged by a petrol kiosk in Bedok on Monday (Mar 12). According to the STOMPer, his car can only take in 45 litres of fuel but he was billed for over 47 litres of fuel. The STOMPer wrote: "I went to pump petrol into my Volkswagen polo 1.2 TSI and got a rude shock when the bill came up to $110! "Never have I had such an expensive petrol bill before. "As the receipt shows, 47.62 litres was pumped into my car, which only has a 45-litre tank. "Furthermore, my digital fuel meter gauge still showed about a quarter tank left when I was at the petrol station. "I am definitely bringing this up with ESSO and Volkswagen."
  22. I have this habit of topping up only after the gauge reach E, stretching the frequency of going to kiosk. Is this a desirable thing to do? Heard that it might adversely affect the fuel pump. Anyone here does this since day one of owning the car and face no problem or the other way round? Need advise. Regards.
  23. It's probably a pretty old site that most of you are aware of already, but just in case: http://www.fuelsaving.info/index.htm
  24. Guys, got a very noob question. Assuming totally no obstructions (this means you are accelerating only. No need to brake or anything): Will it save more fuel to: always shift gear up ASAP or wait for current gear to go past optimal torque (or some other point) before shifting? Or is this car dependant? Thanks....
  25. My car is probably due for 40K km servicing next month. I notice tat the FC has dropped to about 9.5 km/l (previously it's between 10.5 to 11 km/l). I wonder if the next servicing will help revive the FC. Anyone has similar experience b4?
