  1. A Garmin 255W costs around US$120 while around $400 in Singapore. Seemed to be much cheaper buying from Amazon. But people still continue to buy from shops in Singapore ? Why is that so ?

  6. anyone knows how and where to get Garmin GPS software for my samsung omnia 2 which is running on windows mobile v6.5? And do i need to pay for the software? Thanks.
  7. Dear all, any kind soul here can direct me where to buy Australia map for my Garmin 200? I have searched the web but couldn't seem to locate any seller. Thanks hor.
  8. Im planning to buy a Garmin 255W GPS and fix it semi-permanantly on dash board or other suitable position. Semi-permanently means a wire is run internally behind dashboard from battery to GPS but at the same time I should be able to unplug at the GPS (hardware) end. I dont want to have wire clutters and at the same time i should be able to remove GPS when i go overseas. Could such an arrangement be done? Have anybody done such installation before & what is your ride? Any recommended workshop that could do such installation & how much it would cost? Thk you.
  9. Are you the kind who pokes fun at the male/female voice that comes with a GPS system, spewing mechanically accented directions at you on the way to a destination? Well complain no more!! Garmin has now introduced a record-your-own-voice feature for their navigational instructions on their latest GPS systems! Garmin says the PC-based application will take about 20 minutes to complete, but when you're done you can tell yourself when to turn instead of that computer generated voice that dominates directions. While the program will allow you to voice directions like "turn right in one quarter mile". Additionally, Garmin is releasing an ecoRoute cable that ties into your vehicles ECU to help you tread lighter on the gas pedal and record the results. Both programs will not work for 3xx and 6xx series navigation systems, but other Garmins should work just fine. If you've already got a Garmin GPS and want to get your hands on their latest program, do note that it will not work for 3xx and 6xx series navigation systems. So humour yourself and your friends the next time you plan on heading up north on a long weekend roadtrip. Heck, get your hands on a GPS for a friend's birthday and make sure you record the most irritating, nasal voice you can humanely manage before wrapping the bad boy up. Get the whole gang involved! Imagine "Turn right NOW!" in a heavy singlish accent or even "Turn left. Oh wait! Turn right! Wait...Ok I'm lost". Getting the GPS program for yourself? No better way to get sick of your loved one's voice by getting her to record her voice on it, throwing in sexual innuendos and pet names for good measure. Here's the list of GPS devices that are compatible with the new program.
  10. Here's some screenshot of Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia 5800 (Tube). GMXT on Tube menu GMXT Menu When Navigating If you don't like it, tilt your phone and tadah Browsing map not so ideal in landscape mode. better in potrait as you see more The latest GMXT 5.0040 support S60 Touch, I am using MFM 1.57 lite for maps however, still have some bugs when browsing maps. drawing new area will hang the phone after a while. Routing far from ideal. anyone else using 5800/GMXT combo? Had a shock when Nokia Maps subscription cost about $170 per year.

  13. any comments on this newly launched unit @ IT show 2009? certainly innovative and looks cool as Garmin linked up with Teleatlas (who goes round on van capturing images of Singapore) and there's this Junction View function (Dual Map mode) with real images of the road junctions + buildings (can see example at www.garmin.com.sg)
  14. As above, anyone can intro me any place to buy Garmin GPS accessories? Coz my adapter spoil, cannot charge GPS in the car. Thanks a lot!
  15. Bros and sis, to those holding the affected models, you may want to do an update before you "lost" your way. http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2009/06/...ilable-now.html
  16. Hi, I'm considering between the Garmin Nuvi 205W and the 250W to replace my WM Pocket PC GPS unit. I understand that the main differences between the two are: 205W Weight - 147.42 g (Lighter) Batt Life - 4hrs (Shorter Batt Life) Waypoints - 1000 FM traffic compatible - Yes Where Am I? - Yes Photo navigation - Yes Choose keyboard layout - Yes 250W Weight - 172.93 g (Heavier) Batt Life - 5hrs (Longer Batt Life) Waypoints - 500 FM traffic compatible - No Where Am I? - No Photo navigation - No Choose keyboard layout - No By looking at the comparison data gotten from the Garmin website, it seems that the 205W is a better GPS device, am I correct? Are there any other differences between the two units other than what's stated in the Garmin website? Which would be a better option of a GPS unit? I have been using GPS via my WM Pocket PC + Bluetooth GPS Receiver and Mapking but I cannot search via postal codes. My WM Pocket PC also hangs often and runs out of battery REALLY fast. Will the Garmin 205W/250W GPS allow me to search postal codes? Are there any more advantages which the Garmin 205W/250W GPS has against these WM Pocket PC GPS combos? Pardon me for all these noob qns as I have very little knowledge on GPS devices. Are there any Garmin GPS expert bros/sis can enlighten me? Thanks, Ed
  17. Me noob with gps. Wats the market price for garmin 250W? Does this model worth considering?

  20. Happy New Year to the bros here! May 2009 be a better year for everyone! 2008 was a testing time for me as with the recent economical downturn and had to search to do some other businesses besides what I did before (that is why have been away from the forum for sometime.) But still driving the same power booster Skoda Superb. Recently my company, we became an Authorized Dealer for Garmin range of GPS products, warranty is covered by Garmin factory, unlike the PI models when there is a warranty issue the person is charged SG$120 for repairs. I have the complete range if you are looking for a unit. Hope you can support, well wishes to the family! Thanks for reading, Shane
  21. Eloo bros/sis... for stand alone GPS system, which 1 is recommended to get? can both system update the maps on our own? using mapking or malsing maps is it? if budget around $500, what are the models I can look at? think eastgear selling one of the Holux models at $499. Don't need bluetooth, just need the GPS hehe thx in advance.
  22. Noticed there has always been garmin nuvi gps on sale, usually only used for a while the idea of getting a new one crossed my mind certain times before, but upon seeing this trend of 2nd-sales of newly bought sets, can't help but wonder if there is an underlying reason for this. Anyone would like to comment?
  23. Hi folks. I went to Sim Lim Square today to get a hard drive and walked past Perfect Watch and Electronics on the ground floor. Made a huge mistake by walking in and ended up with a new GPS. I already have a Garmin C320 (as seen here: http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/interior-sect...html#post107675 ) but when I saw the wide 4.3" screen of the Nuvi 610, I just couldn't resist it. So I ended up with it. I apologise for the camera phone quality pictures. Now to the unveiling. The box Map details Ohhh... What's this? Stuff in the box I took them out and laid them out on my couch. Clockwise: Nuvi 610, carrying pouch, literature and CD ROM, USB cable, dash mount, windscreen mount, cigarette lighter charger, AC charger and adaptor Peel off the screen protector Turn it on Tells me what to do The main menu The travel kit menus Very nice MP3 interface Address search menu System Menu Installation pics coming soon. Stay tuned.... .

  25. Hi fellow garmin users.. My friend and I each have a Garmin Nuvi. mine is the 200 while his MIGHT be the 200. no matter.. Issue 1: My insulator on the wire has broken and I can see the bare metal wires inside. Given that my unit is less than 2 months old, will Navicom honour the warranty? The guy on the phone seemed unsure. I just sent them an email, and will be making my way to Navicom even if they do not reply. I believe that it should not be an issue, but if any bros have dealt with this problem pls let me know Issue 2: My friend's Nuvi takes super duper long to lock on.. or maybe it never locked on at all. His "GPS simulation" mode is off. that's the only thing i could think of which might screw up the satellite acquisition. mine can take quite long (over 15 minutes, once) to "lock on" but his is brand new and already got problem. Any experience on dealing with navicom would be appreciated. jln sultan is somewhat out of the way for me and it would be good if i know who i'm dealing with before i spend two hours settling both our units
