  1. Although the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show won't take place until 20th April 2013, the premium German automaker Mercedes-Benz seems impatient to reveal its latest compact crossover concept. Mercedes calls it the GLA Concept. Looking like a taller A-Class, the concept is based on the German automaker's new MFA platform. With that being said, it's likely that Mercedes will price the car close to the price of the B-Class. Besides, it will go below the GLK lineups. The interior of the German compact crossover concept is dominated by brown-silver colour combination. The designs of the dashboard and centre console are quite futuristic, too, with some blue illumination. The GLA Concept will have a total power output of 211bhp, with a probable AMG version. The AMG version is expected to feature a total power output of up to 354bhp, thanks to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This latest compact crossover concept from Mercedes-Benz will come with an FWD drivetrain and will be available with either a diesel or a petrol engine. Unfortunately, though, it seems that you won't be able to buy this car at least until the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show as the production version isn't due until September.
  2. Following the step of its German rival, Mercedes-Benz, BMW will also launch an exclusive 5 Series lineup that only the Japanese can get their hands on. The premium German automaker will be offering sedan and touring variants for the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition. The Japanese can choose a 2.0-litre diesel or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine for both variants. These exclusive 5 Series will be limited to only 300 units, featuring a complete M-Sport package for its exterior. Meanwhile, on the interior, customers will get the comfort from a three-spoke M steering wheel, sports seats wrapped in Cinnamon Brown leather material, a Heads-Up Display, an upgraded audio system and a lot more to mention. If you're a fan of BMW and are lucky enough to be living in Japan, we think you might want to add this limited edition model to your collection. You can take it home for an exchange of something between 7,190,000 to 7,490,000 Japanese Yen. After all, you won't find the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition in other countries or when the model is sold out - it's limited to 300 units only, remember?
  3. Incredible. GVGT. German motorists apparently stopping their vehicles by the sides, some even out of the roads to give way to an ambulance with sirens on. Don't think we can progress till this stage. Bro Kiadaw you witnessed before? From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ke_way_for.html Posted on 12 Apr 2013 Would this happen here? See how German motorists make way for ambulance There's an accident on this German expressway, and an ambulance is en route to the scene. Would Singaporean motorists be this quick to give way? The video showing an ambulance responding to an accident is being circulated on Facebook. Instead of having to weave through intervening traffic however, the ambulance driver has a straight drive to the scene of the crash -- because other motorists have pulled over to give way. Even heavy vehicles have moved out of the path of the accident as best as they can, in order to allow the ambulance to pass. The video has led to people of different nationalities questioning if people in their own countries would have been as courteous as these German motorists.
  4. Are you an owner of a VW Scirocco? Does yours look any cooler than this one? This tuned VW Scirocco has been spotted in China quite recently. But why the VW Scirocco? Well, it's probably because in China, they say that this particular model from the German automaker Volkswagen is often fancied by Chinese young men with tight pants. So, while the body of the car retains its originality

  7. [extract] In the last decade or so, most cars have either a four-speed or five-speed automatic transmission fitted in them. Nowadays, many automakers are using six, seven and eight speed automatic transmission. And even a nine and ten speed auto gearbox is on its way. Some people might ask; when will this gear-adding mania come to an end? Apparently, the answer is soon; according to German transmission producer, ZF. Julio Caspari, ZF

  9. The Toro project by DMC adds a little more power along with a new, lightweight styling kit that adds on to the already aggressive looks and performance of the Gallardo. DMC has worked on an ECU remap complemented by a new titanium sports exhaust system. These changes are good for an added 20hp for a total output of 580hp and 574Nm of torque from the 5.2-litre V10 engine. Top speed has also increased to 329km/h. The bodykit from DMC is purely made from carbon fiber. It includes a front spoiler and sword, side sills and skirts with side under diffuser, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and rear panel and side mirrors. The extensive DMC carbon fiber bodykit also includes "more attractive rounded sills" on the interior of the sides. It sits on a set of lightweight 20-inch forged rims. Pic Source: DMC Auto
  10. [extract] Daimler may have fallen behind its German rivals, namely Audi and BMW, in terms of profitability but it would not go down the road of reducing its workforce in an attempt to narrow the gap. "I see no reason to look exclusively at personnel when it comes to increasing efficiency," said Mr Wilfried Porth, Daimler

[extract] Like Singapore, the Germany auto industry is facing a shortage of talents. According to the German engineering association VDI, the shortage of available engineers in the country last month hit an all-time high of nearly 77,000 vacancies. And this might prove to be a problem for companies like BMW, which aims to hire 800 people at its Leipzig as part of the
  12. I used to have this thinking that German cars, being heavier, have higher fuel consumption than Jap cars, but both BMW and Merc have higher Km/L rating than Toyota and Mazda. Toyota Prius has the best rating at 25.6km/L, follow by Merc C200 at 14.5km/L. 14. German tuner, Kubatech, has developed a Stage II tuning package for the currently discontinued Porsche Carrera GT. Kubatech refers itself as an engine software specialist and through an ECU optimization, it dials up the power on the Carrera GT's 5.7 liter V10 engine from a standard 612 PS to 660 PS. Torque also gets a bump to 642 Nm from the standard 590 Nm. In addition to the ECU upgrade, a Cargraphic sport exhaust system made of high-grade steel also contributed to the higher output on the Carrera GT. The Stage II's top speed is now 343 km/h, compared to the previous 330 km/h with an improved 0 to 100 km/h sprint timing. Stage II tuning of the Porsche Carrera GT by Kubatech comes at an all-included cost of
  15. Fernando Alonso controversially led a Ferrari one-two at the German Grand Prix after Felipe Massa was given coded orders to let his team-mate past. Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel was third at his home Grand Prix at Hockenheim, 5.1 seconds adrift of the Spaniard. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button never threatened the leaders but Hamilton's fourth-place finish means he still leads the drivers standings. Mark Webber was one place off Button in sixth for Red Bull after oil problems. The result was a first one-two for Ferrari since the first race of the season in Bahrain but Alonso's victory was soured by the coded team orders with 18 laps to go. Massa, who trailed his Spanish team-mate by 31 points prior to the race, was told by Ferrari chief engineer Rob Smedley over team radio: "Alonso is faster than you. Can you confirm you understand?" - to which he responded by letting Alonso through on Turn Six moments later. Following the move, Smedley added: "Good lad. Just stick with it now, sorry." The controversy marred what was in-fact a dominant display by the Ferrari's as the Italian team were consistently quicker than their rivals. Massa took advantage of a battle between Alonso and Vettel to take the lead at the start but on lap 21 the Ferrari pair traded places on Turn Six before Massa regained the lead - resulting in Alonso saying on team radio, "this is ridiculous". But ultimately, one year to the day since Massa fractured his skull during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix - victory was taken from the 29-year-old. Elsewhere, the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher finished in sixth and ninth place respectively while Robert Kubica finished seventh for Renault with his team-mate Vitaly Petrov completing the top ten.

  19. With the exception of an actual signature on the dotted line, Michael Schumacher has reportedly agreed to return to F1 with Mercedes in 2010. The news magazine Focus as well as the major German daily Bild revealed on Saturday that the 40-year-old, who retired as a Ferrari race driver in 2006, will be Nico Rosberg's teammate. Bild said a one-year deal has been agreed verbally, and talks about withdrawing from his new consulting contract with Ferrari have been positive. Focus, whose report was made available ahead of publication on Monday, said whether Schumacher actually signs the contract also depends on the go-ahead of doctors. A source told Bild: "The signature is just a formality. Schumacher feels fit and healthy. The latest (medical) tests were entirely positive. "He can't wait for the return and working with Ross Brawn again." An announcement could be made as early as next week, and Focus said the deal is for 3.5m euros -- about a tenth of Schumacher's retainer when he hung up his helmet with Ferrari. A longer-term objective is for the German to be an ambassador for the Mercedes brand, the magazine added. The seven time world champion's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm told DPA news agency she did not want to comment, and his manager Willi Weber told SID that he was "as in the dark as the press". "I don't know anything about it," Weber added. "I have not spoken with Mercedes, nor do I have any meetings with them."

  23. Have a German supplier in town so it was my turn to drive around on my car, a Skoda Superb 1.8T. My business partner, a loyal Toyota fan, never thought much about my wheels, but when the German supplier sat in my car, he was saying I was a smart guy to get the Skoda Superb, as he owns the current and previous VW Passat and some Audi's in his life. We went on to discuss about the Skoda and how they have VW + Audi parts in the car and the 1.8T engine was from the Audi range of 1.8T engines, from than my business partner was leaning forward and asking alot of question, so our German supplier went on to say this is the best value for money car you can buy on the road, really good and worth the buy. My friend was impressed and asked me more about the car, all I can say is, wait till you see the new one. My German supplier also mentioned that the new Skoda Superbs are available in Germany and the market of Skoda brands are growing, if not for the company VW Passat, he would have gone for a Skoda Superb II.
