  1. True the Korean was drunk and not making sense in his native language, I agree with the STOMPer that there was uncalled provocation by the local guy with his aggressive pointings and threats which resulted in the latter kena slapped or punched [shakehead] Not sure if there was a free-for-all after the video footage as things seemed likely to spiral rapidly downwards after the punching. Check out the video embedded in the website From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...with_drunk.html Posted on 16 May 2012 Man provokes Korean man -- and gets slapped in return STOMPer Ozer came across this video of a man involved in an argument with a Korean online. Over the course of their disagreement, the foreigner touches him on the face. He responds by shoving him back, and gets slapped in the face. According to the video's description, the Korean man had been drunk at the time of the incident. He had apparently boarded a taxi but had turned violent when the cabby asked him to fasten his seatbelt. A passerby -- the man seen arguing in the video -- then intervened to help out the cabby. The video was uploaded two days ago on May 14. Said the STOMPer: "I found this video of a Korean punching a local. "The Korean was drunk and riding in a taxi. "An argument broke out, and then a passer-by stepped in to 'help' the cabbie. "In the end, the Korean hit him in the face. "If you keep annoying a drunk guy, you are obviously asking for trouble! "While the Korean may have been at fault at the start, the passerby was aggravating the matter by even trying to talk sense to him. "Why make matters worse when you can just wait for the Police to arrive?"
  2. A private chef was charged on Friday for negligent driving, causing the death of a motorcyclist and endangering the life of passenger of another car in 2009. Melvyn Lee Shang Bin, 26, was sentenced to a month in jail for the first two charges, and fined $2,500 for the third charge, reported The Straits Times. Lee, who used to be part of the cooking duo The Funky Chefs, was also disqualified from driving for five years. The district court heard that Lee was driving his father's orange Nissan Murano along East Coast Parkway on Oct 18, 2009. He sideswiped a white car in the lane as he veered left, injuring Tan Sien Keam who was sitting in the front-seat. The impact caused his car to move onto the other side of the expressway hitting motorcyclist Muhammad Farhan Kassim, 26, and resulted in his death. Lee claimed that the white Toyota had veered into his path causing the accident. However, witnesses say that the Toyota was travelling at about 90kmh, before his car sped past and collided with it. Lee has had a bad driving record of careless driving and drink-driving. Deputy Public Prosecutor Yang Ziliang said that the latest offence occured barely four months after the chef regained his driving licence. According to The Straits Times, Lee is appealing against both his sentence and conviction. Source: http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNew...511-345465.html
  3. What a predicament! http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...disappears.html Woman driver with 2 child passengers gets car stuck on road This car was left high and dry on a road divider at Sin Min Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was apparently a woman travelling with two young children. STOMPer Melvin writes: "This car climbed a road divider that was at least 30cm high. This happened along Sin Ming Ave this morning (Mar 5) at about 10am. "The woman driver and a couple of young children passengers were shaken but unhurt." STOMPer mikael also commented on the driver: "The driver of this car must have been sleeping. "The driver drove the car into the road divider at Sin Min Avenue. What a klutz! "When I took this photo, the hazard lights were on but the driver was nowhere to be seen. "The driver was probably too embarrassed to be seen in public."

  6. This time no way another AOG denial clause right? Now whom STOMPer's insurance company has to claim from now: TC, PUB or HDB? From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...gets_stuck.html Posted on 11 Dec 2011 Driver hurts back when car wheel gets stuck in manhole with broken cover STOMPer Jason hurt his back when one of the wheels on his car got stuck in a manhole which had a broken cover. Said the STOMPer: "I was driving my car out of my HDB estate near Blk 679B Jurong West Central 1 at about 1:30pm yesterday (Dec 10). "As I was exiting the HDB estate, there was a car in front of me which safely proceeded onto the main road. "I was the second car and as I was driving out of the estate towards the main road, my entire car sank into an unknown depression. "There was a loud bang, and I noticed that my car had tilted towards the right side in a very dangerous manner. "My engine stalled and I was unable to drive on. Due to the impact of the accident, I suffered severe pains in my lower back and I had to stagger out of my car. "To my horror, when I came out of my car, I noticed that the manhole cover was missing. "Subsequently, upon examining the hole which was about 1.5 metres deep, I found that the manhole metal cover was broken into pieces and had landed at the bottom of the manhole. "My car was stuck at the location for a total of 3 hours. From the pictures which I had taken, the metal cover covering the manhole had broken into three pieces. "The surrounding area around the manhole was also rusty. The missing manhole cover can lead to serious injuries or even death for: 1. Pedestrians especially elderly and young children 2. Parents pushing their baby pram 3. cyclist 4. motorcyclist 5. any other vehicles. "In the event that any person were to fall into the manhole which is 1.5m deep, there could be serious injury or fatality involved. "Just two weeks ago, a 21-year-old beautician Sim Sin Ee was killed when her boyfriend's car apparently went over a pothole in the road. "Their vehicle had crossed over the central divider and was hit by vehicles travelling in the opposite direction."

  8. An engineer who struck a motorist on the head with a metal pole was jailed for four weeks and banned from driving for 12 months on Thursday. The court heard that Cheong had changed lanes while driving his pregnant wife home along Seletar Expressway. Mr Phua, 42, who was driving behind, tail-gated him and high-beamed his headlamps. 9. Here is something you always hear folks say "Look where you are going!" and you start wondering what if you do not... Watch the video foortage in the weblink at bottom of the page. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...s_into_van.html Biker gets distracted by pretty woman and crashes into van If you're on the road, make sure your eyes are fixated on the road and nowhere else -- that's the lesson this motorcyclist in China learnt when he crashed into a van. The motorcyclist turned his head to get a glimpse of a girl he had rode past and crashed into a van before another motorcycle crashed into him. STOMPer RoadSafetyPlease, who saw this video online, wrote: "Guys, this video shows you why you should always keep your eyes on the road and not get distracted by a pretty girl. "A motorcyclist in China turned his head to look at a woman in a skirt and crashed into a van parked along the road. "Another motorist later crashed into the fallen motorcyclist, who was later sent to hospital on an ambulance. "That's the price you pay for having a roving eye." STOMP is preparing the video and will post it here as soon as it is ready.
  10. guess parts of the 2million were recovered as he came clean, also from the sale and recovery of the porsche GT3 An M1 account manager was jailed six years in total for criminal breach of trust and money laundering. Matthew Yeo Kay Keng, 35, had siphoned $2 million in two years from the telco by selling stolen phones to third parties. RELATED STORIES * Telco sues over 'M1ssing M1llions' Between 2008 and 2010, Mr Yeo misappropriated 3,085 handsets. He created subscription contracts for mobile services supposedly for corporate customers. He then sold off the handsets at close to retail prices to resellers after pretending he would personally deliver the phones to customers. M1 discovered the offenses during an internal reorganisation. Mr Yeo is also said to have told M1 that he also spent the money on a Patek Philippe watch worth $50,000, three Rolex watches worth $8,000 each, and four Audemars Piguet watches worth between $15,000 and $30,000 each. 13. Man who diverted telephone calls to police jailed By Shaffiq Alkhatib | Posted: 08 September 2011 1723 hrs Photos1 of 1 http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...151866/1/.html#http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...151866/1/.html#8Share SINGAPORE: Annoyed that loansharks kept interrupting his sleep, a food distributor diverted their phone calls to the hotline number of the Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC). As a result, an innocent policeman bore the brunt of a loanshark's wrath and got verbally abused with vulgarities on March 27. 32-year-old Ng Leng Huat was sentenced on Thursday to three weeks' jail in what is believed to be the first case of its kind. Sergeant Ahmad Yazid Mohamed, who was on duty that day, first received an overseas call from the loanshark at around 1.20pm. Sergeant Ahmad identified himself and asked the caller to meet the police for assistance. However, the caller became agitated and started to hurl vulgarities at him before hanging up. The caller phoned again five minutes later and, this time he revealed Ng's NRIC number to another police officer. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Paul Wong said Ng had earlier received countless calls from loansharks, preventing him from sleeping. Because of this, Ng decided to divert the calls to the NPC. DPP Wong pressed for a deterrent sentence. Ng could have been jailed up to a year or fined a maximum of S$5,000. -CNA/ac WTF really
  14. WORK on the $130 million Woodsville Interchange, which will help ease jams for residents in the north-east, officially started on Thursday. The project, made up of three tunnels and one flyer, will connect four roads seamlessly: Bendemeer Road, Serangoon Road, Upper Serangoon Road and MacPherson Road. Currently, these four roads converge in a congested junction, causing heavy traffic jams. Land Transport Authority chief executive Yam Ah Mee said the Woodsville Interchange, when completed in 2011, will boost traffic volume by 30 per cent. It will carry 11,000 vehicles per hour, compared to 8,000 vehicles now. Vehicles also have to wait up to 10 minutes to cross the intersection now. This is expected to be cut to four minutes when the road interchange is up and running, said Mr Yam, who launched the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday with Minister for the Evnironment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim, who is also adviser to the Kolam Ayer Grassroots Organisations. Late last year, LTA officials went around the neighbourhood to brief residents on the road project before work started. A Project Community and Control Centre - or PC Cube - will also be built near the Woodsville Interchange to update residents on the progress of the project. Yr 2011 Complete [thumbsup]
  15. It was raining very heavily and my car was running at almost empty tank. There was a petrol station in sight but the station was undergoing a partial renovation with some areas closed. There were only 2 pumps and the pumps were not too well-sheltered from the extremely heavy rain. I managed to squeeze my car into the limited space to fill the tank with petrol. I am feeling rather paranoid about rain water getting into the fuel tank during the refilling process (although it may not be the case). I am sure many drivers have experienced such a situation before. What are the symptoms if rain water really gets into the tank? What are the potential damages and what would be a cheap way to rectify it?
  16. STOMPer myalice's left rear car window was smashed by a thief who managed to get away with $3500 worth of belongings, among which were a laptop, an iPhone 4 and branded goods. The STOMPer said that the thief was able to make a quick getaway as he or she was on a bike. The STOMPer reports: "I will never leave valuable things visible in my car... "I paid a dear price. "This happened at 9 Jalan Kasa, 7 Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru. "Watch out for bikers as they can make quick getaway. "I lost my laptop, iPhone 4, LV wallect, IC, LV bag. "If anyone returns these things I will offer them a reward of S$1000."
  17. Production is set to end soon on the Nissan GT-R as the 2012 JDM (Japanese domestic market) model will be the last. But Nissan will still be trotting out some new iterations of the car. The 2012 R35 GT-R will get getting more power vis-a-vis the previous edition by around 30 PS ( 22 kW / 30 bhp) with a total output figure of 560 bhp (418 kW / 568 PS) over the earlier 530 bhp (395 kW / 537 PS) and 488 lb-ft (661 Nm) of torque. And a SpecR version is coming too, meaning the update won't just be those additional horses. Included for a SpecR variant will be a weight loss of between 30 and 40 kg (66 to 88 lbs) and a gold engine cover to replace the current red one of the SpecV. Testing on the new model has been delayed by the Tsunami disaster that struck Japan back in March, but 7tune.com reports that testing on the Nurburgring for the new GT-R will take place in the fall. 18. I catch no ball. How come the vet is acquitted but still need to compensate the victim? So did he or did he not? Is this a shakedown? A FORMER senior veterinarian with the Singapore Zoo was acquitted of four molestation charges on Friday after compounding the matter. Dr Oh Soon Hock, 52, was granted a discharge amounting to an acquittal, for molesting a 21-year-old woman four times at the Mandai Lake Road premises between January and March 2009. Deputy Public Prosecutor Agnes Chan said the prosecution had no objections for the charges to be compounded for a global sum of $15,000. The woman, who has received the amount, was in court and seen wiping her tears. Trained in Taiwan in veterinary science, Dr Oh was is known for using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat animals. Lawyer Shashi Nathan told reporters that his client was very relieved that the matter had been resolved privately between the parties. The maximum penalty for outrage of modesty is a jail term of up to two years, a fine or caning or any combination of such punishments.
  19. Feb 17, 2011 Father gets jail and cane for burning his kids' buttocks By Elena Chong A SECURITY officer was given 48 months' jail and eight strokes of the cane on Thursday for burning the buttocks of his two young sons and subjecting them various forms of ill-treatment. The 26-year-old father of three had admitted to nine charges committed at his home between October 2008 and August 2010. Seventeen other charges were taken into consideration. The court heard that the accused had been taking care of his children at home while his wife went to work. The first time he caused hurt to his then five-year-old son was in October 2008, when he burnt him on the buttock with a hot ladle. The following year in 2009, he came home and found some burnt tissue paper in his ash tray and believed that the victim had played with his lighter. He decided to teach him a lesson by lighting the tip of his lighter and pressed it on his buttock. In 2010, he slapped and punched the boy on his arm and used a shoe to hit him for climbing the window grille. Months later, he lashed him with a telephone cable, for messing up the house. Among the abuses he inflicted on his younger boy were to tie him to a pipe in the toilet on two occasions in 2010, to stop the four-year-old from damaging items at home or hurting himself. When the boy was 3 1/2, he had burnt his buttock with the tip of a lighted cigarette, for wetting the newspapers. District Judge Ronald Gwee agreed with the prosecution that deterrent sentences were appropriate in view of the aggravating factors. He said the various acts of the accused over a prolonged period were rather cruel involving the use of lighted cigarettes, a hot ladle and spatula to burn the victims' buttocks. The accused could have been jailed for up to seven years on each count of hurting with a heated substance. For ill-treatment, he could have been fined up to $4,000 and/or jailed for up to four years on each charge. Have children for the sake of having them, dunno how to love and protect them. Give him a life sentence oso no diff.

  22. Mazda gave us a glimpse of its next-generation Sky-G (gas) and Sky-D (diesel) powertrains at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, as well as its new Sky-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. These engines are currently running the testing gauntlet, as the first applications are expected to show up as early as next year in the refreshed Mazda6 sedan. Car and Driver was able to snag an early test of a 2.0-liter Sky-G engine, which will reportedly achieve 30 miles per gallon in the city and 39 to 40 mpg on the highway when used in a Mazda3. This puts it in the same territory as the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta TDIs, not to mention besting smaller offerings like the Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit. C&D also got the skinny on Mazda's 2.2-liter Sky-D diesel powertrain, which the automaker has confirmed for application in its "next-generation mid-size sedan" (*cough* Mazda6 *cough*) which will achieve up to 43 mpg on the highway. Take that, Fusion Hybrid. Head over to Car and Driver's full deep-dive for a raft of details about both of the new engines. [source: Car and Driver]
