  1. Hi, I checked on papers and need confirmation. Kelisa is currently the cheapest car at $34.9K (M). Thats really affordable for a Point A to B car and on top of that, I heard the Manual version is pretty powerful. But is the price on their website accurate? Will test drive this sat. Hope someone can help in my questions. My questions are 1) What is the minimum loan and loan period for Perodua cars? 2) If I am getting an OPC (w some DP), my loan amount will probably be less than 15k. I wonder if i can still get freebies or cash discount from the SE. Pls advice and let me know what are the freebies that most people will ask for. (I would think for such a small car, there is no need for reverse sensor and car alarm). Can some kind soul PM me their deals and what they manage to get from the SE? 3) Is the stock tyre of kelisa 14 or 13inch? As there are no safety features on the car, I would think a good pair of stock tyre would help. (No intention to do alot of unnec modding) Thanks alot and looking fwd to your reply!

And no, this is definitely not Chinese new year period ppl drive out to Malaysia. Been noticing since couple months back. Any similar sightings at your carpark?

  6. It seems that there are car sales everywhere.. Is it really GSS time for cars, or just gimmicks? I recently had a chat with one rep, and the rep confided, that around this time, the companies, typically the ADs, will need to rouse up sales if they have not met the annual targets. And if you get it now, from reps who have not met their annual targets, there is a bigger hunger, so they will be willing to share their commissions with you, and help you get a better price. Having been to two sales recently, I can tell you from a first person point of view that the reps are truly keen to close a deal, and if you are really keen, get that cheque book ready, there are deals to be had. For example, BMW has their 100 year sale, and one can score a BMW 116d for 123k plus a bunch of freebies. The quantum of freebies that you get will depend on your bargaining skills and which rep is more hungry. So is a senior rep better or a junior one? IMO, the latter. He / she has targets to met, and is more willing to forgo the commission in order to keep his / her job.

  9. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2016/05/premium-plunge-sales-many-popular-luxury-cars-america-nosediving/ "Yet after BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Acura, and Cadillac all failed to match the rate of industry-wide expansion in 2015, the first four months of 2016 have revealed that even more top-level premium brands are fading as the market for new vehicles continues to expand. U.S. auto sales are up 3.4 percent in 2016. Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, BMW (the three top-ranked premium auto brands), Acura, Cadillac, and Infiniti posted declining sales in the first-third of 2016." Is this a symptom of the ongoing recession, or a trend of changing taste?

  12. Hello, I am seriously thinking of getting a used Getz. In the small car category, I like its look and space and I also think that it should be quite reliable There are few variants avaiable - 1.1M, 1.3A & 1.4A (will not condier the 1.6 version). Like to seek opinion from fellow Getz owners which vaiant is the best amongst all, and what is the reasonable price for a 2 ~ 3 yr old car ? From Straits times and online carmart, the price of a close to 3yr old Getz is around 30K. Is this a fair value to pay for ? The other option I am considering is to get a OPC at < 20K and convert it to a normal plate, which will work out to be around 30K. Also, if anyone is thinking of letting go your Getz, please let me know. Thanks.

  17. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=11391 Citibank has allowed pre-qualification of customers for car loans and this could possibly cause a shake-up in the local motor vehicle financing model. The Business Times reported that Citibank is upending the traditional vehicle financing model here by pre-qualifying customers for car loans - thus bypassing the motor industry, which could lose millions of dollars in finance commissions if this practice is eventually adopted by other banks. To make its loan scheme more attractive, Citibank is offering flat interest rates of between 1.48 and 1.88 percent per annum - much less than the prevailing market rate of about 2.28 to 2.68 percent Under the Citi Direct Car Loan model, customers apply online for vehicle financing and those who are successful receive in-principle approval. With this conditional approval for a loan of a specified amount, a prospective car buyer can shop for a car knowing he or she has already qualified for financing. This is different from the current model where a new car buyer submits a loan application through the car company for the bank's approval. If the application is approved, the car company receives a finance commission from the bank, which can range from 1 to 2.5 percent of the loan amount, depending on the quantum and tenure. If the Citi model catches on with other financial institutions, it could spell the end of a longstanding relationship with motor distributors as well as finance income. But some car companies doubt that will happen. "Most distributors have a panel of banks they work with and there are advantages to such tie-ups, the most important of which is customer convenience," said the managing director of a luxury dealership. He explained that car salesmen take care of the nitty-gritty for the buyer - something the latter won't get if a bank wants to be independent and go direct to the customer. Another factor working against the direct model is in-house financing, provided by the financial services arm of the manufacturer - something which all the German brands here have access to. It is believed that Citibank is rolling out this scheme because it wants to increase market share. The American bank is currently a small player in the vehicle financing market here, with DBS, OCBC and Hong Leong among the heavyweights. The latter three have tie-ups with most of the best-selling brands.
  18. Injuries suffered by victims of road traffic accidents are becoming increasingly serious, according to figures from two Singapore hospitals. Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) point to an increasing number of grievously injured trauma patients. They cited speeding, drink driving and more heavy vehicles as possible causes. At TTSH, the number of badly injured road users has gone up by about 40 per cent. In 2008, 129 road users - drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists - had injury severity scores above 16. Last year, there were 178 such patients. 19. , my time (1977) running in flat sole black PT shoes ... CNA: SAF to get adidas, Zoot running shoes SINGAPORE: From the end of the year, Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers will get to choose between German brand adidas and American endurance sports brand Zoot for their running shoes. Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen revealed on his Facebook page on Sunday (Aug 24) the fourth change to the SAF’s running shoes since 1995. Referring to the ASICS running shoes used by the SAF since 2011, Dr Ng said he was delighted with them. “They were of a high quality and have given me many hours of happy walking and jogging,” he said. “More good news for National Servicemen. The next set of running shoes will be from adidas and Zoot, and will be available at the end of the year.” When contacted, the Ministry of Defence said more details on the shoes – such as the specific models and whether they would be available to recruits first or on SAF eMarts as well – would be announced later. There are more than 300,000 regulars, active full- time and operationally ready national servicemen. Currently, servicemen can choose from two models of ASICS running shoes, depending on their foot type – the Gel Kanbarra 4 SP for those with neutral-to-high-arched feet and the Gel 105 SP for those with mildly flat feet. The ASICS shoes were first introduced in August 2011 and were said to be chosen because the Japanese brand is lighter, more durable and more shock-absorbent. Before that, servicemen had been using New Balance or Brooks models since 2007. In the first three decades of National Service, soldiers wore thin-soled black gymnasium shoes. -TODAY/cy link: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/saf-to-get-adidas-zoot/1328052.html Peng Kia nowadays chin heng ahhhhhhhhhhhh...................
  20. It cuts both ways........ one side, retailers are suffering, another way, SG ppl are damm happy https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/glitzy-street-no-more-vanishing-024300021.html Desperate owners are starting to get panicky. The country’s posh shopping center is bearing the brunt of the sharp decline in Chinese tourist arrivals. According to Maybank Kim Eng, short-term headwinds are in the forecast for Orchard Road’s landlords. The report stated that Orchard Road shops are dealing with a new Chinese law that bans “forced shopping” for tourists. Hoteliers are also now focusing on corporate and transient segments as tour groups become more scarce. “Our conversations with Orchard Road landlords suggest that the current headwinds may be short term in nature. Chinese visitors have been declining since last October, partly because of a new mainland law that bans “forced shopping”, which prompted sharp rises in prices for outbound tours in China. In addition, many hotels along Orchard Road have progressively moved away from the wholesale customer segment (tour groups) to focus on the higher-yielding corporate and transient segments,” the report stated. Here’s more from Maybank Kim Eng: The Chinese are no longer coming in droves. Following the political upheaval in Thailand and the mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, there have been concerns that this may have a negative impact on Chinese visitor arrivals. Mainland Chinese typically holiday in Singapore, as part of their tours to Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Based on 2013 data, mainland Chinese were the second-largest international visitor group to Singapore (2.3m) after the Indonesians (3.1m). Anecdotal evidence points to Chinese tourists cancelling their travel plans to Southeast Asia in recent months. The initial signs of a slowdown are already evident with Chinese visitor arrivals down 31% and 14% YoY in 4Q13 and 1Q14, respectively. More recently, the April retail sales of watches and jewellery, which are highly dependent on tourist purchases, registered a sharp YoY decline of 16.3%. The law was in response to recent years of public outcry in China over extremely cheap tours tied to “forced shopping”. The law, which took effect at the start of the seven-day National Day “Golden Week” holiday on 1 Oct 2013. The upshot was substantial increases in tourist agency costs, especially salaries for tour guides, who previously received commissions from designated shops. As a result, sales of such tours have fallen, even at what is a peak period for holidays.
  21. Hi Can anyone here please share your experience in processing time for PR application for spouse? Preferably like to hear from those who have applied in recent 1-2 years... If possible, can anyone who has connections with ICA staff care to share more about the main consideration factors to grant PR? I heard from many people that income is very important but anyone knows what is the "cut-off" e.g. monthly $5k, $8k, etc... Thanks

  24. Didn't know Elton John is a GAY .... Yahoo news: Elton John to get hitched in May London, March 30 (IANS) Singer Elton John and his partner David Furnish will get married in the summer of 2014. They will marry in an English registry office in May, Furnish told the Las Vegas Review Journal at John's birthday party Friday at Fizz, Las Vegas, reports eonline.com. The two entered into a British civil partnership eight years ago. But, given that Friday marked the first day gays were allowed to exchange vows in England, they've decided to head to the altar again. "We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally," said Furnish. "But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example," he added. link: https://sg.entertainment.yahoo.com/news/elton-john-hitched-may-114004452.html
