SMRT has offered the Thai teen who lost both her legs in an MRT accident here a compensation of $5,000. However, 14-year-old's father has rejected the amount as it is 'unacceptable'. On April 3, Peneakchanasak Nitcharee pitched forward onto the MRT tracks at Ang Mo Kio station. Since then, she has recovered well in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and has been undergoing physiotherapy. According to a report in The Straits Times today (June 12), Mr Peneakchanasak engaged a lawyer last week to look into getting higher compensation from SMRT. It had offered $5,000, which he has rejected. "Unacceptable. This is for a person, a little girl -- a little girl who had a bad accident. From today onwards, there will be more expenses, like the cost of her new legs and rehabilitation," Nitcharee's upset father told the press. The Thai student will be heading home on Monday (June 13). Her wounds have healed fully, and she now moves around in her new electric wheelchair, bought with donations from the Singapore Rotary e-Club. Said STOMPer christopher of the compensation offered: "It is greatly disappointing that SMRT offered such a low and absurb amount of $5k to the Thai teen. "Surely, we can do better than that. "The $5k cannot even cover basic costs. "Please be more humane."

Despite being considered rather pretty, Bae revealed to a South Korean variety show that she was dissatisfied with her appearance and wanted cosmetic surgery on 10 areas of her face. Bae's mother, appalled at her daughter's lack of hygiene, had contacted the variety show in an attempt to force her to change her behavior. A visit to the doctor revealed that Bae's skin was twice her actual age due to the make-up, reported online media. According to experts, leaving make up on for too long not only clogs pores, but can also cause early aging. Clogging up your skin Sleeping in foundation, pressed or loose powder, blusher or any other product that covers your face prevents dead skin cells from sloughing off. This clogs pores and triggers breakouts, according to Paula Begoun, author of 18 best-selling books, including "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me". In addition, as "cosmetics can hold on to pollution", leaving them on your skin means that one can "end up sleeping with a load of free radicals on your skin" which can cause early aging, said dermatologist Dr Howard Sobel in an article by Allure Magazine. Police quoted a witness as saying that the 17-year-old girl, who worked in a shop, had just bought her lunch from a noodle stall and was crossing the road when the accident happened. It took place at 2.30pm on the Pathum Thani-Bang Bua Thong Road in front of Parichart Housing Estate in Muang district. Initially, only the lower half of her body was found in the middle of the road. Later, the upper half of the body was found in the Porsche's passenger's seat, which was left about 10km from the scene. The upper half of the body had crashed through the windshield and landed there. Police said the car had been stolen and the driver was fleeing.

AN ACCIDENT along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Hari Raya Haji has resulted in one death, three casualties and a massive traffic jam (see photos below). A prime mover was travelling along the PIE towards Tuas when it ran over a road divider and jumped into oncoming traffic from the opposite direction. The accident happened on the Paya Lebar flyover at about 10am Wednesday. According to a source at the scene of the accident, a "little girl" was flung out of the prime mover through the windscreen upon impact and thrown onto the road. She did not seem to be wearing a seatbelt at that time, the source said. Oncoming traffic then ran over the little girl. A police spokesman said a 12-year-old girl was conveyed to the Changi General Hospital, along with three other casualties. It was not known if they were all occupants of the prime mover. Unfortunately the girl succumbed to her injuries at about 11am and was pronounced dead, said the police spokesman. Aftermath All three lanes on the Paya Lebar flyover were closed and traffic was diverted to the Paya Lebar exit along PIE for a few hours on Wednesday. The accident had happened around 10am and only one lane on the flyover was reopened by around 12 noon. A police spokesman told AsiaOne they received a call about a prime mover accident at around 10am. According to a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman, one female casualty had a left-leg fracture while the other suffered a head abrasion. The male casualty complained of pain in the legs and hips. The deceased had head injuries. Link -

5-year-old girl killed in car accident at Punggol By Byron Ho, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 02 December 2009 0012 hrs SINGAPORE: A five-year-old girl died in an accident at Punggol on Tuesday evening. The fatal accident took place at Edge Field Plains opposite Block 126A. Police said they received a call at around 8.20pm about an accident involving a car and a pedestrian. Paramedics pronounced the girl dead at 8.35pm. The car's 27-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly causing the girl's death. Witnesses can call the police hotline at 1800-547-1818.

Thu, Jun 24, 2010 The Star/Asia News Network GEORGE TOWN: The authorities are investigating a vernacular newspaper report that a Year Three schoolgirl gave birth to a baby boy after she allegedly had an affair with her 14-year-old neighbour. State Health, Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said he was shocked to read the news in a Chinese daily yesterday. "I have since alerted all departments concerned under my portfolio to investigate the matter. This is a very serious matter. Having sexual intercourse with a minor is considered statutory rape," he said. Phee added that they only had sketchy reports with not much information, adding that his office had referred the matter to the police. "Any medical practitioner who delivered the baby boy must alert the state Health Department as the mother is said to be a nine-year-old. Those hiding information or abetting the crime will be charged. I appeal to those with information to come forward," he said. Penang deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said police had not received any report on the case. State Education Department director Ibrahim Mohamad said he had checked with all the school principals and they claimed there was no such case in their schools. "But I have been informed by my officer that there is a schoolgirl who had taken numerous MCs (medical certificates) before dropping out of school recently. I cannot ascertain whether the case is related. We will, however, investigate the matter," he said. According to the Chinese daily, the girl, who comes from a broken home, gave birth at a private hospital some time last month. The girl, the paper claimed, seemed mature for her age as she was big compared with other girls of her age. The report claimed that the boy's affair with the girl started when she was eight.
