Hi All, not sure if this is the right term but I got this glue/caramel/gum like thing dripped from the flowers or fruits from trees on my car's body and windscreen. when i spot it, sometimes it was not fully hardened, and rubbing to remove it may end up smearing it over a bigger area. onced dried/ hardened, it is like semi-transparent on the windscreen and not effect when I scrub it. what home-made remedy or off the shelf products I can use remove these stubborn glue-like thing?

Anyone knows of a reliable Aluminium glass folding doors + kitchen/toilet swing and fold doors contractor? I don't want the type of basic aluminium powder coated/acrylic doors. I originally selected one company, but only just realised the google reviews are quite alarming. Thanks in advance.

About 30 minutes into the dinner, my dining table "EXPLODED" and the entire tempered glass top shattered into pieces. Now, steamboat lovers would know the potential devastation when a hotpot pot were to be toppled/spilled over. Now x10 of the damage because of the sudden shatter with glass flying everywhere. After the incident happened, all of us sat there in shock, and we couldn't do anything as there were glass shards and hot soup everywhere. *please take a look at the picture to visualise the amount of damage done* we immediately called the ambulance and paramedics came down to rescue us. With all my guests injured, some with cuts bigger than the size of an eye. I myself was brought to NTF for treatment of 2nd degree burns. I understand that there is a potential possibility of thermal stress that may occur on a tempered glass even though it is supposed to be tough, with 15mm of thickness. With no right or wrong answer to how much heat and duration will cause a tempered glass from shattering, we were unfortunate enough to experience this traumatic experience. Damage occurred: 1. New kitchenware 2. Lots of injury (blood spilt everywhere) 3. A&E medical attention + follow up appointments 4. Blood stain on wall and sofa 5. Blood seeping into grout (have to dig out and reapply grout as there is no way we can clean it) 6. Food 😞 It was supposed to be a joyous gathering between my friends. But it ended up being a traumatizing experience. I hope my story will be a warning towards all tempered glass top table owners. We have contacted the furniture company to ask for their course of compensation, unfortunately, the director of the company said that the best that he can do for us is to replace a brand new laminated table top for us as the base of our table is still intact. (Not even an entirely new table) - but that's besides the point - what we were looking for was minimally some responsibility on the company's end... to cover the medical bills and repair costs. Would I be able to eat in peace at my own dining table in future, wondering about the safety of the table from the same company? We shifted into our brand new home, with brand new furniture for the entire house, all ready to celebrate our first CNY at our new house. Instead, my husband and I were left speechless with all the mess left behind. When I came home from NTF last night, I broke down and cried when we opened the door. My house is in a mess and it smells like a crime scene of a murder. But well....... thankfully it was not during the actual CNY, where elderlies and babies/children could have been severely injured. However, it is probably the only component on a car that does not succumb to wear and tear. Automotive glass only ever needs replacing if it is broken. HOW IT’S MADE The raw material of glass is silica or silicon dioxide, available in abundance from sand. Silica is heated to beyond 1500 deg C before it becomes a liquid and then cast over a layer of molten tin. The liquid silica floats on the tin to form an even, flat layer, which is then cooled to create the solid glass panel. The float glass, as it is known, is subsequently cut into the curved shapes as required. DANGEROUS SHARDS In the past, automotive glass was similar to that in the windows or facades of buildings. However, there were dangers whenever the glass shattered during accidental breakage. The resulting shards of broken glass can be sharper than knife blades. This makes them potentially life-threatening projectiles when the fragments fly into the car’s cabin. MODERN AUTOMOTIVE GLASS Automotive glass today is of a variety categorised as “safety glass”. However, this does not mean it is immune to breakage from bending or foreign-object impact. The term is used because of its drastically reduced potential to cause bodily cuts. Hence, safety glass is a mandatory requirement for the windscreen and windows on every motor vehicle. There are two basic types of automotive safety glass. The more common “toughened safety glass” is made from a single glass pane. When molten silica is cast, metal oxides in precise portions are added. This enhances the physical properties of the material. After this, the automotive glass is cut, ground, shaped or (where required by design) drilled for mounting brackets. Then, it undergoes a secondary thermal process that prestresses it. This results in a structure with evenly distributed internal stresses. Once toughened, this automotive glass cannot be cut or drilled. It is also not easy to break or damage. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT’S HIT? Toughened glass, when subject to impact or torsion, will shatter into small fragments with blunt edges. You can actually scoop up pieces of the broken safety glass with your bare palms and not end up with a single scrape. Try throwing a brick at a windscreen – the brick is likely to bounce back! “Laminated safety glass” is the other variation of automotive glass, and it’s usually used for windscreens and glass sunroofs. The lamination in question comprises a clear or coloured (tinted) polymer resin called polyvinyl butyral or PVB sandwiched between two glass sheets. This glass is bonded to the flexible PVB that is inherently resistant to cracking. So, any impact on either glass surface will not result in loose glass fragments. Even if the entire glass surface is shattered, the PVB maintains its bonding with the glass pieces. LAMINATED GLASS Laminated glass is now the standard for windscreens. Some high-end cars utilise a variation of the laminated glass that substitutes the PVB layer with a vacuum. The gap acts as an insulator against both heat and noise. The two layers of toughened glass are adhesive-bonded around the edges. Adhesive-bonding is also the modern method of attaching (front and rear) windscreen glass to the frame of the car body. Because glass is inherently very stiff, it contributes to the overall stiffness of the structure, specifically the roof and its supporting pillars. BULLET-PROOFING A more complex version of the laminated glass is used in the making of bullet-proof glass. Certain companies offer specially built armoured cars for VVIPs in politics or business who are at risk of being shot at. Bullet-proof glass will prevent the penetration of ammunition from most firearms. It is made by building up multiple layers of polymer materials and glass. Hence, the windscreen and window panels could be as thick as 35mm. It requires extensive and costly modifications to the mounting frames and doors. But to those who need the extra protection on the road, it would be money well spent. -

Hi, just need inputs for a good place to go get my windshield pits n swirls corrected and polished. The swirls can be caught with fingernails and cannot be removed with arm power. Thanks to advise.

China 12 March (BelTA - People's Daily) - Magine walking between a group of skyscrapers, not on the ground but over the rooftop - you would soon be able to do so in China. Construction workers in the city of Chongqing, south-west China, are building a huge rooftop corridor that connects six 60-storey towers at 820 feet high. Stretching 984 feet like a horizontal skyscraper, the enormous glass-walled structure is nearly as long as The Shard in London laid on its side. Once completed, the innovative sky bridge will have a glass-bottomed outdoor observation deck. From there, daredevil visitors will be able to enjoy the views of the Yangtze River and Jialing River merging at Chongqing's Chaotianmen area, one of the oldest part of the mega metropolis with some 30 million residents. Measuring 98 feet in width and 74 feet in height, the lofty passageway is the crown jewel of an ambitious £2.7 billion project that comprises eight skyscrapers: six at 820 feet tall and two at 1,148 feet tall. The passageway will comprise 3,200 pieces of glass and 4,800 aluminium panels and weigh a staggering 12,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 1.5 Eiffel Towers or 20 Airbus 380 planes. The humongous complex, called Raffles City Chongqing, is invested by Singaporean real estate company CapitaLand which owns a chain of shopping malls and office buildings across China. Occupying an area the size of 170 football fields, the eight-building complex is designed by Canadian-Israeli architect Moshe Safdie, who is also the brain behind Singapore's landmark Marina Bay Sands. To build such a huge structure on top of multiple skyscrapers is a complicated process. According to CapitaLand, workers are constructing it in nine parts. Four of them are built directly on top of the four buildings in the middle. Three sections used to connect the buildings are constructed on the ground. They will then be hoisted up by hydraulic strand jacks and attached to the side of the buildings to form a continuous passageway with four neighbouring parts. The remaining two segments situated on both ends will be built in short sections from the rightmost and leftmost towers. They will connect the corridor to the two adjacent buildings via cantilever bridges. Each of the three between-building sections weighs 1,100 tonnes, and the first section has been lifted up and mounted to the side of two towers. The entire rooftop passage is expected to complete by the end of June this year, according to a spokesperson from Raffles City Chongqing. In addition to the vertigo-inducing observation deck, it will contain two swimming pools, various restaurants and meeting rooms; while the eight skyscrapers will have luxury homes, shopping malls, offices and hotels. The whole complex is scheduled to open in stages from 2019. Five of the eight buildings have topped out so far. As a country passionate about skyscrapers, China is planning and building some of the world's most dramatic high-rise projects. According to Shanghai-based news site Jiemian.com, nearly 70 per cent of the worldwide skyscrapers were built in China in 2016, which already has half of the world's 10 tallest buildings. Any good products for keeping the windscreen glass clean and clear and remove those oily layer. Used Rain-x before, result is good but cause wiper to shudder. And Autoglym Glass cleaner, heard will left those small blue residue particules after effect. Any good recommendation here?

Hey Guys, Are you all fans of glass coating? I love the rain drops flying away effect with one! I'm currently using Glaco because its roll on applicator is easier to use than the Rain-X in a bottle. I feel they both have similar results. Please share what you are using? Also, any more permanent solutions? I currently have to re-apply every month. So many PPS services here but I don't see much talk about having hydrophobic glass!

Tested on my windscreen last week..Finally have the chance to try it out yesterday with some drizzling..wipers are almost half a year,just some normal wiper from proton MY.. wiper started to juddge and actually is time to replace them..since the DG #751 reached my doorstep..best time to do some experiment. Talking about security lapses at our border, I am sure most of us have seen many foreign-registered cars with dark-tinted glass driving around on our roads. But the question is why are they are allowed in the first place since this is supposed to be illegal? Though they are foreign cars, they must adhere to our traffic rules & regulations.....

Sebastian Wong Yu Lun was only 24 when he died in the most horrific way on Jan 25, in front of a frantic girlfriend who was helpless to save him. Details of the tragedy emerged in a inquiry into his death yesterday. When Mr Wong hit the glass panel, the sharp broken edges impaled his neck. He also had multiple cuts on his head. Mr Wong, a car salesman, had been taking a shower with his girlfriend, identified only as Ms L, at her flat at Teban Gardens Road. As Mr Wong was about to leave the shower, he slipped. Ms L was shocked to hear the glass panel shatter and frantically tried to free Mr Wong when she realised he was injured and trapped. Her sister, who was not named in court papers, called emergency services as Ms L fought to free her boyfriend. After a struggle, she managed to free him and he fell flat on his back. He was still conscious but struggling as she propped him into a sitting position. She dressed herself and used a towel to suppress the bleeding. State Coroner Marvin Bay said: "She noted, however, that Mr Wong stopped his struggles and appeared to lose consciousness after five minutes, lying unconscious on the floor. "Ms L tried to perform CPR by giving chest compressions in accordance with instructions by an SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force) operator through the phone and relayed by her sister." WEAK PULSE A paramedic who had arrived at the scene detected a weak pulse and the ambulance took Mr Wong to hospital, but he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the accident.Mr Wong had suffered multiple incised wounds to the head and neck, said consultant forensic pathologist Marian Wang, which led to his death. She also said that Mr Wong died of multiple incised wounds to the head and neck. Coroner Bay said: "The nature of the incised wounds was found to be consistent with those caused by sharp, broken glass fragments." He found that Mr Wong had died from an "unfortunate misadventure". Following the tragedy, senior forensic scientist Li Yuhua from the Forensic Chemistry and Physics Laboratory of the Health Sciences Authority, produced a report on the analysis of the glass fracture. It revealed that the panel was not made of tempered glass. Instead, Coroner Bay said that it was likely to be made of heat-strengthened glass. In his findings, he added that it may be prudent to use tempered glass panels on doors or windows in places where falls may commonly occur. He said: "Tempered glass fragments are less likely to have sharp edges (when broken), which may help to avoid the occurrence of catastrophic or even fatal injuries, upon any person breaking or shattering glass fixtures."

Ok as you all know, cerium oxide (CeO) paste is the best glass polishing agent. Available from Mr Sheeto. I report I have sped up the polishing process with alcohol. The optical clarity of the glass has improved a lot as well. OK why polish with CeO? It is actually a procedure prior to the silanizing treatment like RainX and Glaco. You have to smoothen the glass make it squeaky clean first. To some, RainX and Glaco are a niusance and would like to remove them, CeO is the proven method to do it. After that the glass surface will be purely glass. No more functional silicon groups on it to repel water. Please note that water will not bead after CeO polishing. So how to do it? My method is below: 1 tub of dry CeO powder Sponge with green wool section (the above items to be taken from Sheeto) Some rubbing alcohol from pharmacy A squirt bottle filled with alcohol Before starting, I suggest the surface of the glass be dry and cool. So make sure it is not parked in the sun prior to this. If you plan to wash the whole car, do the glass first. 1. Pour a little CeO powder into the large plastic container that came with the CeO kit you bought from Sheeto. 2. Make milk slurry with it with a little alcohol. 3. Dab the sponge to absorb a little of the slurry and start rubbing it on the glass with circular motion. 4. The alcohol being volatile will dry rather quickly. Use the squirt bottle with alcohol and spray onto the worked surface to keep it moist with alcohol as you scrub it. After a while, the surface will not bead alcohol. This shows that the surface is already polished. 5. Flush with lots of water. I suggest doing one glass surface at a time. You can substitute alcohol with water but the polishing action will be slower. Much slower. Also alcohol with its lower surface tension actually produces a much smoother polished surface compared with water. After all that, treat your glass with your favorite silanizing agent. If you prefer to leave it as it is, that is alright as well.

Located on the first floor next to clothing retailer H&M, a third of the glass partition shattered into smaller pieces. The mall's spokesman said no one was hurt, and that the glass has since been cleaned up and the area cordoned off. Since its June opening, the mall has had a few hiccups. Its opening was delayed by four days due to a lack of fire permits. On Aug 14, three FairPrice staff were hurt after a deep fryer caught fire. Four days later, a car burst into flames in the mall's carpark. On Sep 18, a burst water pipe caused a ceiling to collapse. Three people suffered bruises and the mall shut the next day for safety checks and repairs to be carried out. It reopened on Oct 2.

A four-year-old boy was hurt after a glass door at Westgate mall in Jurong East reportedly fell on top of him. A member of the public who only wants to be known as "Paul" sent in photos of the aftermath. He says he heard from the boy's mother that the glass door - about three-metres high - just outside of NTUC's My First Skool childcare centre and a Fitness First gym, leading to the outdoor area on Level 5, detached and fell on top of the boy just before 6pm. Mr Paul says the boy's entire body was pinned down by the door, and that he was lying facedown when he arrived shortly after. The boy's right cheek appeared to be bruised. There were also traces of blood on the ground. "Because the glass door is tempered glass, it shattered within," said Mr Paul. He says two staff members from the nearby Westgate Kids Club brought a first aid kit to tend to the boy, and a doctor from a clinic one level down came up to assist as well. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirms it received a call on the incident at 6:05pm, and says the boy suffered a cut to the back of his head and reported having neck pains. He was sent conscious to the National University Hospital, accompanied by his mother and mall staff. A spokesperson for Westgate mall says the boy was swinging the glass door the time of the accident. "Our investigations revealed that the boy had over-extended the glass door when he swung it, causing it to hit the door frame and shatter," said Ms Mandy Chiu, the marketing communications manager for Westgate in a statement to Channel NewsAsia. The boy remains in hospital for observation, but is in stable condition. "We wish him a speedy recovery, and continue to extend our help to him and his family," said Ms Chiu. The mall's contractor will be conducting safety checks on its glass doors and panels overnight, to prevent a recurrence of such an incident.
