  1. My experience with C&C is....better to buy your VW online. ebay may provide better help info than C&C. Visited C&C today in hopes to view a new Golf GTI. It was a neat showroom, with so many C&C personnels, but no one seemed to care...i thought i was in Borneo Motor....it couldn't be, i saw a Black Golf GTI. At least, she was smiling at me. When i fiddled with the black beauty, a salesperson appeared, finally. First thing she said, "all the GTIs are sold, if you want it, you have to wait until Oct". When i asked for specs or a catalogue for consideration (afterall, it is a cool $123k we are talking about). To my surprise, it was to no avail. She suggested me look up in VW website, and claimed they bring in only top specs GTIs.....she stood beside the car rather impatiently, and gave me an impression of "well, is there anything else ?". i walked off. It is amazing to find not a single piece of catalogue in a nice and big showroom, flying flags of Golf GTI outside the building. Maybe ebay gives better service.

  3. New B&B VW Golf /Jetta TSI Text & photos courtesy B&B Automobiltechnik GmbH 04-04-2006 With up to 240 horsepower ! The VW Golf / Jetta with its newest 1.4 TSI engine is being power enhanced to the maximum by the Siegen-based automobile tuning company B&B with a product package that includes several power enhancement stages. The three-stage engine tuning package starts off with an adjustment to the electronics and a slight increase in boost pressure, which brings the 1.4 liter engine to a powerful 200 horsepower and 300 Nm performance level for only 998,- EUR. The following changeover stages produce 210 and 240 horsepower, respectively, with which the VW Golf /Jetta 1.4 TSI accelerates to 100km per hour in just 6.5 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 240 km/h. To achieve this high performance our technicians at B&B replace the standard turbocharger with a changed version and round off the tuning measures with an optimization of the charge air cooling, injection system, air induction system, and electronic engine control. To further reduce exhaust temperatures and back pressure the VW Golf /Jetta is equipped with a special exhaust system that includes a larger downpipe and a high-performance racing catalyst.

    Golf Speed

Golf Speeds up from AutoExpress The future is bright... the future's orange for young Volkswagen buyers wanting a hot-looking insurance-friendly model. This is the new Golf Speed, and it has an R32-style bodykit, but a less powerful 148bhp FSI petrol engine. While not as fast as the range-topper, it still covers 0-60mph in 8.9 seconds. The car was the brainchild of VW's young engineers who, in their spare time, added spoilers and a sporty interior to a basic Golf to give it youth appeal. And bosses liked the idea so much, they decided to put the Speed model into production. With the same low splitter and bumper as the Golf GTI, plus 18-inch alloys and the R32's cherry red tail-lights and twin central exhausts, the Speed is certainly distinctive. It's also available in 140bhp 2.0-litre diesel guise for those wanting economy as well as racy looks, but this model is yellow instead of garish orange. Both cars get lowered suspension for improved handling, plus sports seats with body-coloured stitching. There's also a choice of DSG sequential or manual boxes. Sam Hardy

  10. Taken from AutoCar 19th July Issue: Britain's New GTi King : Scorching Astra thrashes Golf GTi and Megane Cup exerpts from the article regarding the new Astra VXR/OPC "The suspension is probably the Astra's finest moment. Thanks inpart to Vauxhall/Opel's German in-house tuning arm OPC, but mainly, you suspect, to the skills of Lotus, which was closely involved with the chassis from the beginning, this is arguably the most focused car ever to wear a Vauxhall/Opel badge" "behind the 225/40 ZR 18" CSC tyres nestle the biggest front brake discs (321 mm) to adorn any Vauxhall/Opel, even at the rear, it boasts dinner plate-sized 278mm discs. There is also anti-lock, ABD and Brake Assist for good measure" "on the move, the Astra is quick with a capital F, and has moves that are way beyond anything the Golf can muster, if not the Megane, a device fast enough to dispatch all but a very small number of so-called performance cars, only a well-driven Caterham or an EvoBishi with a Genuine nutter at the wheel would be quick enough to put clear air between themselves and the Astra" "the Golf is nowhere by comparison, featuring neither the straight line wallop nor the heroically well-tied down chassis composure of the Astra. Critically, the Golf doesn't even ride as smoothly as the Astra over tricky piece of road" "the Astra is appreciably neutral when cornering; 237bhp and fwd means torquesteer off the line" "the Megane's ride is too hard to the point of irritation on anything other than glass-smooth roads, and to begin with the steering feels too light, too darty, not feelsome enough and nowhere near as faithful to the Astra's" "there is something about the Renault that doesn't quite work overall. It's one of those strange hot hatches that's fast, very fast, but that's it. There's not really a whole lot more to it's vocabulary -- and therefore appeal-- than sheer pace. In the end, it trails the others (Golf and Astra) by some margin" "the Golf is the most complete package here, true, but in this instance complete packaging can take a hike. real hot hatches, ones that we remember fondly for year to come, are meant to look good, go like clappers, handle and ride beautifully enough to make you weep-- and blow cars as sensible and complete as the new Golf GTi into the weeds. Torquesteer and all, that's precisely what the Astra does. Which is why it wins, easily" Opel/Vauxhall Astra OPC/VXR 0-62mph 6.2sec Power 237bhp Torque 236lb/ft power to weight 170bhp per tonne 4 cyls in line 1998cc, turbo 6 speed manual Front MachPherson Struts, coil springs, anti-roll bar Rear Torsion beam, coil springs Front brakes 321mm bentilated discs Rear brakes 278mm ventilated discs Wheels 8JX 18in alloy Airbags Driver, passenger, side and curtain Stability Control Yes Traction Control Yes Brake Assist Yes
  11. ever wondered why there isn't a turbo+super-charged car? VW did, and they're coming out with a 1.4-litre turbocharged-supercharger Golf with 168bhp! but i guess it won't be cheaper than the already expensive 1.6 Golf...
  12. Anyone know of any PI who can bring in the Golf V GTI? That will be geat...
  13. recently discovered...Malaysia launched Golf GTi. Priced at RM225,000 (or S$102,000), it comes with 18"rims, sunroof, DSG and many extras. Heard that the import duty of cars is 250% in Malaysia (much higher tariff than Singapore's). So guys, you can imagine how much profit is C&C trying to make.

Ok firstly. The video editor for this video is a complete moron because he sped up the video. Nonetheless it still shows how insanely fast this golf is. Enjoy http://www.carpignano.ch/Video/red_devil_04_15mb.wmv
  16. Quotes from ST Life 26 Mar from Christopher Tan abt the new Golf GTi. ($120k incl COE): "A car like the VW Golf GTi can make u weep. You cry when you think of all the mediorcre models that you've loved before; you let those tear ducts burst forth when you were last shopping for wheels...." "It is so entertaining that you'll find yourself playing with the steering mounted shift pads or flooring the accelerator just to feel it's forceful and yet velvety response..." "The rumble is a song that will lure many drivers to their doom....." "Although not as boomy as a Ferrari, the GTi was able to set off a car alarm as I powered it up a carpark ramp." "Plainly put, this GTi is the best car the world has seen in a long while". "Try not to cry if it passes you...especially if you missed out on one" I WANT!!!! But OC sez No. So, now it's my turn to too.
  17. am thinking of selling my 2002 dec golf. 2 options in my mind. 1.selling in the 2nd market. OMV 20k,Open cat COE 27k. mileage 50k 2.tradin in when buying new car. so is my car 'paper-valued' now? what's the best option?

  19. The brand that created a genre, then went seriously off the boil, has returned in top form with the debut of the Mk5 VW Golf GTi. In fact it's so good that we've named it 2005 Top Gear Car of the Year. Anyone who drove the Mk4 GTi will see it as quite a surprise, but the GTi's victory is nothing compared with the Jaguar S-Type diesel's, which trounced the new BMW 5-Series and Audi's cracking A6. Other surprise winners include Toyota's Corolla Verso (Family Car) and Vauxhall's Monaro VXR, which was awarded Best Muscle Car. The full list of victors are: Car of the Year Overall winner: VW Golf GTI Hatch Citroen: C4 Family Car: Corolla Verso Dream Car: Maserati MC12 Hot Hatch: VW Golf GTI Supercar: Ferrari F430 GT: Aston Martin DB9 Muscle Car (New Award): Vauxhall Monaro VXR Small Car (New Award): Peugeot 1007 Limo (New Award): Maserati Quattroporte Super Saloon (New Award): BMW M5 SUV (New Award): Land Rover Discovery Executive Saloon (New Award): Jaguar S-Type diesel
  20. Hi guys, I am in the market looking for a car and this is my 2 cents worth ... Mazda 3 : this car sucks... no power, but no doubts about the look. quite disppointed... Low OMV of about 16k even for the most expensive HB version. i am actually driving a 323 HB now and was actually my first choice until I have tested it... Astra : ( S$85,888 ... another S$2k disc. offered for motorshow ) Not used to the easy-tronic transmission at first but it feels good when driven in manual mode.... The car works quite well in both auto and manual, the days when you want some kick... you can actually drive it in the tip-tronic manual mode and feel the car moves... heard from the SE that the gearbox can be repaired if it kaputs ( not too sure if it is true ) and will only costs S$1k+ for replacemnet in the event if it is really beyond repair high OMV of S$19,500 ... interior finishing is quite okay... ... not as good as the Golf though.... heard that the 3-dr version is coming next year.... should be 1.8l though... however, they have a 1.8l auto ( 5-dr ) which they are still thinking if they will launch it in SIN. Golf : High OMV of S$ 25k Definitely one of the best in terms of feature.... cruise control, 8 airbags ... finishing is definitely fanstastic. but at S$104k for a 1.6l.. .. you will definitely have to really think abt it. will buy if budget permits... but frankly too expensive for a 1.6l... Focus HB.... Nice road handling... thanks to Eddie... for allowing me to test drive. Only minus point is that it does not have the tip-tronic gear on the Focus...... the ride is comfortable and handling is very good. However, will want to see how is the new Ford Focus first... but definitely one of the better 1.6l cars around.... Only concern is the high costs of maintenance... I used to own a Ford Escort and really pay through your arse for wear and tear and this is really a major concern if you want to drive for long.... Anybody there who used to or driving a Astra now? any comments on maintenace ?
  21. Hi to all golf owners, I intend to own a used golf (abt 2-3 yrs old) soon, and wish to seek advice from existing golf owners on the issue of maintenance for this car. 1) What is the maintenance schedule like ? Are the parts expensive, and easily available ? 2) How about fuel consumption ? Is this car thirsty ? Thanks ! urbanjungle
