  1. [extract] Volkswagen announced that it will pull the wraps off two new variants of its latest Golf GTI hot hatch at the W
  2. Volkswagen proclaimed that millions of couples have made love in a Golf. Now, the words "playing it safe" in the subject title has no relationship to that acitivty inside the Golf. Rather, they refer to the fact that the VW hatchback has been named the safest car of 2009 by Euro NCAP Institute in Brussels. The Volkswagen Golf was tested in all four catergories: Occupant protection of adults, protection of children, pedestrian protection and supporting safety and driver assistance systems. The Volkswagen Golf attained the coveted five star rating with the top score of 103 points, earning the title of
  3. anyone tested the car? care to share your experience.
  4. Hi all I am considering changing to a continental ride. I am looking at 3 dr Golf GTi. My wife says 5 door easier to access the rear seats and ferry people. However I love the styling of the 3-door. Looks more compact and sporty. We have no kids and I don't really like to ferry people around. We go grocery shopping once a while and the boot space is adequate for our lifestyle. We also love to go for driving holidays up North occasionally. Currently I am driving a 4 dr 2L Jap saloon. I also looked at 2nd hand car market for Golf GTi, not alot are selling though. For new ride, I realized that PI pricing is 20k cheaper than AD version. Anybody know the difference between these versions? Warranty is the only thing I can think of. Another thing is the maintenance. Are continental rides more difficult and expensive to service and maintain than jap cars? On top of this, the Golf GTi is turbocharged, how reliable is the engine and turbo? Can last me 5 years at least? Are turbo cars more difficult and tedious to maintain? I don't mod my rides. Priced at 120k+, is the Golf GTi pedigree priced reasonably? I am in no rush to change ride now. Hope mcf bros can give me some advise and share your experiences.
  5. - 2009 VW Gol And now for something that may forever change the perception that German cars are bulletproof. Well, the engineering behind the cars are sound, but assembly of the cars by people in Brazil and Mexico have shown that recalls do not only affect Japanese brands, but Volkswagen as well. Just a day after announcing that they have to recall 200,000 Volkswagens in Brazil, Volkswagen have had to recall another 20,000 units in Mexico. The models involved are the unique to South and Central America VW Gol and its derivatives. It involves the possibility that the rear wheel bearings could be insufficiently lubricated, causing then to make noise If the situation is not addressed, it could cause the wheel bearings to lock and can cause noise. Continuous use could lead to a blockage of the wheels and in severe cases may result in a wheel coming off. Volkswagen Brazil had said on its website that 193,620 Novo Gol and Voyage cars were at risk of not having sufficient lubrication on its rear wheels. I would imagine that the wheel bearing supplier had failed to supply properly lubricated wheel bearings. In some ways it is a supplier that seems to be at the center of the fault. This is much like the Toyota faulty accelerator issue, where an outside contractor had supplied faulty parts causing a massive recall. It shows that no company is safe from faulty manufacturing or faulty parts. Now even a German company that supposedly is the leader in quality. It could also show that car manufacturers are braver and more accountable these days or are just taking advantage of the situation arising from Toyota
  6. Hi guys.. i'm really interested in the car.. would like to hear more from the drivers of these cars if there are any.. cos i rather hear a user review than some SE trying to earn some bucks...

  8. Hi folks, Please pardon my ignorance.. I'm changing my car next year and have narrowed down my choices to Golf GTI or Civic type R (hatch).... (thinking of getting a 2nd hand 2007 model) Prior to that, I would need some advices which I hope some of you kind brothers or sisters might be able to enlighten me... 1) Maintenance and depreciation cost of GTI vs CTR -> I'm guessing CTR would be a better choice?? 2) Fuel consumption -> Any one knows how to do an assessment? I'm in the impression that GTI is better in terms of FC.. but would CTR lag far behind?? Any drivers of CTR here?? If so, would you be able to give me a rough guage on how your FC is like?? I'm not a petrol head... just want a car powerful enough for the occasion speed fix... Thanks for your time reading this folks.... Happy holiday!! cheers

  16. HI All, Please share your views on the Golf GTI especially owners. Does not matter if it is the old or latest model. Would like to understand more from those with everyday driving experience. Others please comment too, just share share. How do you rate it? Do you think there is a better car for less money? Why? Driving an Integra now. Backside itchy, thinking of changing. Thanks a lot.
  17. VW has this so call Ltd Ed Golf GTI , Red colour only, fabric seats, 17 inch rims and No HID going for about $85K with COE tag at $4K. OMV is estimated to be about $25K. This works out to be $7K odd a year. Cheaper than all the used GTIs on Sg CarMart. The question is : How is this car and is there any drawback on this model?

  19. Hi, Does anyone knows what tyre brand/model that the new VW Golf is using? Because the new Golf is the quietest hatchback due to VW do everything on the car to maximise sound insulation, including using one of the quietest tyres. I intend to change the tyres of my ride which is very noisey, and instead of wasting time doing research on quietest tyres, I might as well just get the tyres that the new Golf is using.

  22. Hi, Anyone saw the white VW Golf GT/GTi crashed along Alexandra road just outside the Horti Park this morning 7+am? Saw TP there at the scene, seems like car hit tree and verve off into the drain. Front totaled, airbags deployed. Didnt see any driver or bodies in the wrecked car... but looked very serious accident. Such a good car gone to waste just like that... Looks like insurance premium going up again! Cheers Orac

  24. Here it is http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=51 our car seemed to have been "fixed" as far as the shift lag that plagues the 7-speed DSGs is concerned. The only complain i have with them is that you have to be gentle so that you don't roll back and forth while parking on a steep slope..haha
