  1. Anyone know of any affordable cars with boot that are big enough to fit golf bags without flattening the seats? Looking to get a pre-owned car
  2. The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show has just begun and many automakers are showcasing their new models or concepts. And it is no surprise that Volkswagen has unveiled its crossover SUV concept there since it is one of the biggest auto events. The concept shows hints of what a compact hybrid crossover would look like when style, performance and efficiency are combined. Volkswagen named it the Cross Coupe Concept. A spokesperson for the company said that it is how a crossover between a four-door coupe and an SUV would look like. This concept could also be the basis for Audi's crossover SUV. The concept was designed by Walter de Silva and Klaus Bischoff and it is rather stunning. Measuring 4.34 metres long, the car is shorter than the current Volkswagen Tiguan but longer than the current VW Golf. The long front bonnet and the sloping rear lines give the car an aggressive stance. The front headlights are uniquely connected to the centre grille. The chrome strips are more than just for aesthetics purposes. The bottom strips houses the daytime running lights and the top ones are for turn signals. Interior wise, the car features four bucket seats with integrated headrests. Both front and back seats can be folded down to increase cabin space. The cargo trunk space has around 13.4 cubic feet of space and increases to 43.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded. A programmable instrument cluster, which is connected to the driving mode selector, displays various information relating to the driving mode, either sport, off-road and city. The Cross Coupe is powered by three different sources. The front wheels are powered by a 148bhp turbocharged engine which is connected to an electric motor with 54bhp. The rear wheels are powered by another electric motor which will is activated when driving in all-electric mode or during all-wheel drive driving. The rear electric motor is rated at 114bhp and a total of 262bhp if you combine all three. The batteries for the two electric motors are located where the driveshaft would normally sit. According to Volkswagen, this provides a better low centre of gravity and better balance which in turn will give the car the handling of a coupe with SUV functionality. 3. Some 35 yrs ago in 1976, the iconic VW Golf GTI hot hatch was born. According to the Chinese Zodiac, it coincides with the year of the Dragon. The dragon baby is certainly a lucky model for the VW, being perhaps the most recognizable car of the entire VW range. For the first time ever, Volkswagen Singapore is celebration the birthday of the Golf GTI in a big way on 26 and 27 November. At a specially transformed Old Kallang Airport, Golf GTI fans can catch an exclusive showcase of some of the best GTIs, including the extremely rare original model. The Golf GTI E35, the fastest production Golf GTI ever, will be displayed for the first time in the Lion City. The GTI E35 is powered by a detuned version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Golf R. It produces 232bhp of power and 300Nm of torque, which is down from the Golf R
  4. Baby-faced Heikki Kovalainen of Team Lotus drives at speeds over 300km/h on the track in the fastest car in the world, but off the track he prefers something much more peaceful, or some might say slow-paced. "It's a total contrast I know. In golf, you have to stay patient and calm. On the race track you can let loose but in golf you can't and you must be calm," said the Formula 1 driver who will be turning 30 on October 19. "I've been playing for about two to two and a half years. I haven't played that much though it might sound like I play a lot. I like golf a lot, it's unique," Heikki told me during our one-on-one interview in the Team Lotus hospitality suite. He plays golf quite frequently
  5. Want to see fellow MCFers advise. This morning was at a junction going straight, car stopped. The car behind me (Grey coloured Golf) wanna squeeze out of his lane to turn right. Some car horn him, so he half car out of lane while waiting for traffic to clear. Then when he finally turned, "bang".. his side mirror hit my side. Although only some minor scratches, but he just speed off. What should i do? just let it be? i got his car plate.
  6. And while journalism takes an ugly turn due to the mess concocted by the henchmen within the Rupert Murdoch media empire and while Lady Gaga still entertains us not with her songs but by her lack of clothing during her public appearances, Autocar UK has reported that the upcoming Mk7 Volkswagen Golf will look sportier than ever. This is very good news to me as I have always thought that the last few generations of everyone's favourite German hatchback looked extremely porky and minivan-like. This is especially true with the Mk5 Golf (pictured below). Park it beside its cousins the Audi A3, the Skoda Octavia or even the supposedly larger B7 Audi A4 sedan and you'd notice that the Golf Mk5 was at least 3 inches taller than all of the cars mentioned above. I know the Golf was meant to be a practical hatchback, but somehow being so much taller than even the bigger Audi A4 is a bit too much. Then when you add the fact that the overall styling of the Golf is pretty subdued, slabsided and understated without any overt aggression or signs of sportiness the minivan argument somehow makes some sense. Even in the GTI form it looked more like a bubbly loaf of bread than a hot hatch. Of course some may like the fact that the GTI only had red trimmings around the grille for some sign of power but I actually like my hot hatches fiery. The Mk6 was about an inch lower and with that wider, more defined split grille up front it looked wider and therefore lower. Ergo, the car looks sleeker. However I believe that sources within Volkswagen had told the people at Autocar that the company intends to give the Mk7 Golf a wider stance, a lower roofline with a nicely raked windscreen as well as a lower, more sportier driving position. The new MK7 Golf is scheduled for 2012 and will also have distinct models - the three door will be sportier than the five door and the five door hatch will look totally distinct from the taller Golf Plus mini MPV (now this makes more sense as the current Golf hatch does not really differ from the Golf Plus), much like the current Vauxhall/Opel Astra range where the three and five door models are pretty distinct from one another. This little bit of news makes me feel that there is still hope that Volkswagen intends to go back to the days of the Mk1 and Mk2 Golf (pictured below). The Golf in those days were proper hatchbacks

  9. I have made a comparison using the data from Sgcarmart.com as per attached pdf. file. Audi_A1_vs_VW_Rabbit_Sheet1.pdf The newly released Audi A1 costs about 10K more than the VW Golf Rabbit SP Ed in price. Both with COE of $42,999. Audi A1 is slightly better in Performance in terms of Acceleration, Top Speed and Fuel Consumption. Audi A1 has better Driver's features such as Push start engine button, Auto headlights, Rain sensing wipers, Electrical retractable side mirrors, Paddle shifters and Cruise Control, as these features are not available in Golf Rabbit. Audi A1 comes with HID headlights and Front fog lamps, and these features are also not available for Golf Rabbit. Safety features wise, Golf has 7 Airbags, Audi A1 has only 4. Which one will you buy after looking at the price, specs and feature of these 2 cars? Lets hear from you.
  10. Hi all. I am looking to buy a volkswagen golf 2nd hand. 2 options 1st, paid 500 deposit, delivery within next week. Dealer bringing car down to VW for full servicing check. 2008 Nov, i.e. Mk5. 82k, 23600km mileage. Service so far so good. 2nd, dealer say car is consignment. Driver still driving it until 23rd, very hard to make appt to view car. probably impossible to bring car to VW for servicing check or any kind of check. Car is under Auto Passion, but dealer is under car times. Willing to accept 0 deposit, apply loan and insurance first. 85k, 2009 July (Mk6 facelift), 36000km mileage. Says that can put a clause which states if car is not under satisfactory conditions, i can choose not to buy the car. Both are volkswagen golf tsi. Advice needed. (probably urgent cos i got to decide fast) Thanks!

  12. Volkswagen has released a new set of accessories for its best selling model, the Golf. Of more interest to most Golf aficionados is a new aerodynamic package, which includes slightly redesigned bumpers, side skirts and a larger roof spoiler. In addition to making the Golf look sportier, VW claims that these new components improve the car's aerodynamics. Other accessories for the Golf's exterior include two new sets of 17 inch alloy wheels painted in different hues of silver - the 15-spoke

  14. Volkswagen AG has just issued a recall of nearly 380,000 cars due to the potential for fuel leaks which could lead to a fire. According to The Detroit News, A total of 266,936 Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Golf and Rabbit models from the 2007 to 2009 model years are affected,. In addition, 110,350 new Beetle models (both hardtop and convertible) are also at risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an official recall bulletin: "The Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Golf and Rabbit vehicles may have a small plastic tab located on the windshield washer fluid reservoir that may chafe against an underhood fuel supply line. The New Beetle and the New Beetle Convertible vehicles may have a fastening clamp on a hydraulic hose of the power steering system that may be located in an improper position which could cause chafing against an underhood fuel supply line." In both instances, chafing could result in a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. NHTSA states that dealerships will either remove the plastic tab from the windshield washer fluid reservoir. In the case of the New Beetles, the position of the fastening clamp will be inspected. Both services will be free of charge to the owners. I have a strong feeling that the Jettas all over the world will be affected since the location of the plastic tab and fuel supply line should be universal. I hope I am wrong though as I do not wish to have my life endangered.
