  1. From the prev thread. time to mov on to this one...hahah.. The continuing GLOBAL stressful thread! Part II - Page 442 - Lite & EZ - Mycarforum That Part II thread lasted the pandemic!
  2. Commentary: Why 'quiet quitting' could be good for you and your employer https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/work-life-balance-employer-staff-burnout-quit-2885826?cid=FBcna&fbclid=IwAR2ye5G-DtrDPAhNo5FAI1sFyiIV5YRT0vmkrpm6UqbFjdUce0vRwiEsN2w The trend of “quiet quitting” has clearly resonated with young people, to the frustration of some managers. Working at minimal capacity may feel alien, but has benefits for both sides, says a psychologist. Nilufar Ahmed, 18 Aug 2022 06:21AM (Updated: 18 Aug 2022 06:21AM) File photo. The trend of "quiet quitting", or doing the bare minimum expected at work, has taken off on TikTok. (Photo: iStock/Kazuma Seki) BRISTOL, England: In many offices (not to mention on Zoom, Teams and Slack), employees and managers alike are whispering about the “great resignation”. The UK saw a sharp rise in people quitting their jobs in 2021, and one-fifth of UK workers still say they plan to resign in the next year in search of greater job satisfaction and better pay. If you’re unhappy at work, but leaving your job isn’t an option or there are no appealing alternatives, you may want to try “quiet quitting”. This trend of simply doing the bare minimum expected at work has taken off on TikTok and clearly resonated with young people. It has also frustrated managers, with some reportedly concerned about their employees slacking off. But quiet quitting is not about avoiding work, it is about not avoiding a meaningful life outside of work. The last 20 years have seen many people join a global culture of overwork, with unpaid labour becoming an expected part of many jobs. After multiple recessions and a global pandemic, millennials and Generation Z in particular often do not have the same job opportunities and financial security as their parents. Many young people in professional jobs who expected a relatively straightforward progression in life have struggled with precarious contracts, job uncertainties and trying to get onto the housing ladder. There are those who constantly put in extra hours and go above and beyond at work to try and secure promotions and bonuses – yet still struggle. Perhaps in response to this disappointment, a recent study by Deloitte found young people are increasingly seeking flexibility and purpose in their work, and balance and satisfaction in their lives. Many young professionals are now rejecting the live-to-work lifestyle, by continuing to work but not allowing work to control them. File photo. Quiet quitting aims to restore balance where work has crept into personal time. (Photo: iStock/M_a_y_a) Working at minimal capacity may feel alien. But you (and your employer) shouldn’t fear quiet quitting – it could actually be good for you. PROTECT AGAINST BURNOUT Studies have found that work-life balance is linked to mental health in a variety of jobs. And a 2021 survey of 2,017 UK workers by employer review website Glassdoor found that more than half felt they had poor work-life balance. Quiet quitting aims to restore balance where work has crept into your personal time. It can also help to separate your self-worth from work. When all you have is work, it is hard not to derive your sense of value from it. Perceived failures at work, such as not getting a promotion or recognition for your achievements, can become internalised as personal failures. This can increase anxiety, making you worry about how to improve your performance. Often, people respond by doing more work, further exacerbating the vicious cycle of overwork and low self-esteem. When things get really bad it can result in burnout. In 2019, the World Health Organization officially recognised burnout as an occupational phenomenon characterised by feelings of depletion, exhaustion, cynicism, mental distance from work and poorer performance. Burnout is a significant risk of overwork and can have long-term physical, emotional and mental health impacts. Burnout is difficult and costly for individuals and employers. Many people with burnout end up taking time off work, or at least working at less than full capacity. Quiet quitting can create a better balance of work and personal life and so could protect against burnout before it happens. BETTER WORK RELATIONSHIPS Research shows that happier employees are more productive and engaged. This can even mitigate against feeling distracted or not wanting to be present. When people are feeling happy they are more likely to be friendlier and open, fostering workplace friendships, which people report as being a significant part of their enjoyment at work. Quiet quitting’s focus on just doing your job also removes the negative impact of constantly feeling in competition with peers. Having workplace friendships taps in to our basic need for a sense of belonging and can in turn increase loyalty to a workplace and improve job performance. All of this can result in greater productivity, which of course means higher profits. Quiet quitting could be a “great liberation” in response to the great resignation. People are rejecting overwork and burnout and choosing balance and joy. They are establishing boundaries so their identity and self-value is not tied to their work productivity. Instead of getting nervous at loss of productivity, employers should take advantage of the quiet quitting movement to support the wellbeing of their staff. Encouraging a better work-life balance will communicate to workers that they are valued, leading to greater engagement, productivity, and loyalty: Everyone wins. 6. This video talk about how great the Led traffic light as compared to the incandescent traffic light. But it's not perfect. And that's where the problem lies. These led traffic light beat incandescent traffic light in almost every way except in very cold weather condition. Led traffic light bulb emits very little heat and during heavy snow and the outside temperature is extreme low, ice will form up on the traffic light and make it very difficult to see the light. This is not a problem with incandescent traffic light. This prompt news and many people living in cold countries to want to revert back to incandescent traffic light. So this youtuber point out a very important fact and lesson that we could learn from this incident. He point it out as "but sometimes". When newer technologies come and have great benefits and beat older technologies in almost every way, when the only one aspect that the old technology win, people start to compare and blown things out of proportion. The blown out effect is such that it will say until the older technology is alot better then the newer technology whereas in actual fact it is the opposite. This episode could also be a learning for everyone be it individuals or to companies at management level to even ministers who make decisions on policies to understand the danger of "but sometimes" issue. This is so that we could be very clear headed and take a stepback and look into the issue. The new invention vs the old one and look at the fact sheet, statistics and then reconationalize on the benefit vs the side effects instead of purely based on public perception and or feedback.
  7. You missed the turn at the entrance of kje along BKE in direction of PIE. suddenly turned in and I barely had time to react as you were too close so I kicked down and you squeezed thru. You did signal and upon catching up with me you Waved sorry ! I caught it at the corner of my eye, waved and smiled back and we made our way along. Well done bro! Thanks for being a gracious driver and acknowledging the haste but all is good and none of that chasing and braking game that we see ever so regularly here. You made my day and keep up the good gracious attitude. Drive safe.

  11. In my other thread, I slammed the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Economy class product for the cramped seating. To be fair to Qatar, this thread is about giving good feedback on their newest A350 aircraft economy product. It is really good! We only got to fly the A350 on the final leg of our journey, which was the Doha-Singapore leg. This is the picture of the cockpit (from the aerobridge) of the Airbus A350, after landing at Changi. Here is my flight review video of the A350 experience. https://youtu.be/MeTxDyDYHyQ Qatar Airways A350 Flight on the new Airbus A350 from Doha to Singapore. It was a 0700hrs departure from Doha and landed in Singapore at 1950 hrs local time. We were travelling from London to Singapore, with a 45 minute layover in Doha. We had a 45 minute layover in Doha. The transfer was rather rushed, but still do-able. QR 002 landed in Doha on time, but we did not have an aero-bridge. We had to take a bus to the terminal, similar to earlier experience. At Doha, we had to re-do security screening, which fortunately was very fast and hassle free. There were many transfer passengers, however, I noticed that they cleared us very quickly as compared to say LHR. Some kind of huge yellow ultra big toy in the middle of the hall? Didn't have time to take a look. This picture was taken while walking! We boarded the aircraft rather late, i.e. almost all the other passengers had boarded. From the transfer security area, it was a rather long walk to the gate for the Airbus A350 flight to Singapore. I recall it was at Gate B8. See the time stamp on the Gate - 0647hrs! Yes, we got there just in the nick of time. The plane was new. This flight was rather empty so I had an empty seat beside me. Seat space was decent and the IFE system was modern with a nifty touchscreen.I found this video clip on the touchscreen IFE. Exciting! Onboard the aircraft now. Here is the safety card, Airbus A350-900. I found the safety card to be unexpectedly worn and used, I wonder why. I had thought the A350 was a very new aircraft? I was seated near the front of the aircraft. It was a day flight and I think most pax were not sleepy, unlike us. This is how the IFE system looked like. Very modern, and even better than the system on the Boeing 787. Service on board was good. Overall, Qatar offers a top notch product. Pity, however, the seat space on the Boeing 787 is terrible - that is for another video review. For the food, we had two meals. First meal of breakfast was served shortly after takeoff. We had three choices of the hot meal. I had the Asian inspired Thai-style with fried rice. As this was breakfast, it felt too early for alcohol, but I think I had some. After breakfast, I had a decent sleep, about 4 hours. Woke up about 2 hours before landing. The next meal served before landing was a light one. Sandwich plus cake and drinks. Still, it was a definitely a good snack. Taste was good, presentation was good. Landing in SIN was on time. The FAs were very pleasant and attentive throughout. I appreciate the extra attention they showered on my two kids. In this video, I also remember the recent earthquake tragedy in Mt Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Several young primary school children and teachers lost their lives, due to falling boulders. Rest in peace. Thanks for reading.
  12. As I was at home nothing much to do and looked out of thebwindow saw my area nearby there is this condo that is under demolition. I looked and saw this swimming pool filled with water. I wanted to highlight to relevant department to send people down to take a look and to ensure no mosquito bleeding but thinking too leachey and decided not to. Then I realise I got this oneservice app that I downloaded last year oct when the news announced that this oneservice app was created for one stop Service. Incharge is under Mso aka municipal platform where if public do not know which agency to send to for feedback or complaint can send to mso and they will take a look to see which department or ministry is Incharge and task it to relevant department to take action. So I opened this app and finally I got to use it for the 1st time. The app is so good and very convenient. All I need is to login, select category, take picture, tag for location write some description and click sent. All less then 10minutes. There is even tracking for you to see whether the case I sent is still open or closed. Overall this app I give 9 our of 10. Here's the screenshot of the app I send for feedback. So if anyone would to want to feedback something regarding construction safety, roadworks etc and find it very leachey, maybe can download this app and just a few minutes to get all the information and Click submit.
  13. I notice many people behave in a manner that cause unpleasant toward others in the elevator recently So basically this is what I normally do for good practice in elevator - Never block elevator door, let people inside come out first - Hold the door with my hand and give way to let people with wheelchair, stroller and pregnant lady enter first - Shift inside whenever there is space behind me to let people come in - Keep my noise level down inside elevator - If I bring kids, I will ask them to stop jumping and shouting in elevator, and play with floor button - Stop munching my food - Lower my ear piece volume if I find it too loud - Hold the door when people go out or whenever people come in or run from far - Help people with hands occupied to press floor level button - Say thank you to everyone who assist me like holding door etc - Avoid staring at people inside lift as I feel thats very rude unless chiobu then quick stare - Smile at babies but wont touch them, my hand may not be hygiene - Remind my friends lower voice whenever there is someone else in the lift - Wont pick nose - Wont sing I hope everyone does the same practice in the lift, respecting others and had a pleasant lift experience

  16. My car which I bought 2nd hand comes with a slightly uneven driver side seat. Think the previous owner used to sit on one side of the seat. It's causing my spine problems as I easily spend 1-1.5hrs in my car a day. It's an Lexus IS250 and getting a stock seat seems like it'll cost me too much and most stockists in Singapore have told me they don't have it. So I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? How much would a good seat cost?
  17. yahoo reported : Top-secret exposé: Singapore helping US spy on Malaysia The Malay Mail Online – 48 minutes ago KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — Neighbouring Singapore is a key partner of the “5-Eyes” intelligence group which was revealed to have tapped telephones and monitored communications networks in Kuala Lumpur, according to more top secret documents leaked by intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden. In a report by Australian media group Fairfax Media today quoting Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad, it was revealed that Singapore is a key “third party” providing the ring — made of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — access to Malaysia’s communications channel. Singapore was included in a map published by NRC, which showed the US’ stranglehold on trans-Pacific communications channels through interception facilities on the US’ West coast, Hawaii and Guam. The facilities, in turn, tap all cable traffic across the Pacific Ocean, and links between Australia and Japan. In August, Fairfax had reported that the Singaporean intelligence is a partner of Australia’s electronic espionage agency, the Defence Signals Directorate, to tap the SEA-ME-WE-3 cable that runs from Japan, via Singapore, Djibouti, Suez and the Straits of Gibraltar to Northern Germany. This access was allegedly facilitated by Singaporean telecommunication operator Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), which is owned by Singapore government’s investment arm Temasek Holdings. Singapore’s head of civil service Peter Ong, who had previously been in charge of national security and intelligence co-ordination in its prime minister’s office, is the government’s representative on the telco firm’s board. It is believed that SingTel had been responsible in expanding the ties between Australia and Singapore’s intelligence and defence in the past 15 years, said the report. According to Fairfax, Malaysia and Indonesia had been key targets for both Australian and Singaporean intelligence even since the 1970s, since most of its telecommunications and Internet traffic goes through the island city-state. Last month, Snowden had revealed that the US runs a monitoring station in its Kuala Lumpur embassy to tap telephones and monitor communications networks. more stories, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/top-secret-expos-singapore-helping-us-spy-malaysia-052600023.html Knowing our neighbours, they will not let it goes down quietly ..... 20. I always have this mindset when it comes to buy things, products and services. Especially when i am servicing my car or intending to upgrade some of the parts. When you are looking for cheap and good, it will not be fast. when you are looking for good and fast, it will not be cheap. when you are looking for fast and cheap, it will not be good. Just my 2 cents if thoughts! Do give me your opinion on this!
  21. This thread is for Soccer Manager, the totally pointless game we love to hate. Currently we are mass orgy-ing in World Championship 6223 - Game world ID 28826World Championship 9191 - Game world ID 50548MCF Premier League - Game World ID 60665 (by application only) Register yourself and pit yourself against some of the brightest brains in the world of footy management. Square up against the legendary White One (not so legendary lately), the irrepressible Little Prince (press harder babe!) or the mercurial Lclub (mercurial = blardy inconsistant). Tear your hair out by drawing with the most tedious bus driver or lose all your dignity being trashed by a pussy. Find out that Takumi can beat you in driving and managing and Tarzan yells command at his players while swinging from stand to stand. We will eat you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 3 times a day.
  22. come... let's talk about NS shall we? for me, the memories were mostly ok... some unforgettable ones were: - unknowingly took up a prone position in a nest of ants during a training exercise... jumped up and tio kan by the sergeant - dozing off during an evening ambush (at Tekong) and waking up suddenly in total darkness seeing nothing (couldn't even see my own hands) - lost the ring of a smoke grenade but luckily able to find it before the sergeant knew about it (avoid at least three extras!) - eating many leftover drumsticks like yao gui while cleaning the cookhouse the camps I've been posted to: - Nee Soon Camp - Tekong - Pasir Laba Camp (terrible memories!) - Mandai Camp - Khatib Camp - Sungei Gedong Camp - Paya Lebar Airbase (good life there!)
