  4. Time to change tires. Am using BS GR90 215/50/17 on a saloon. Happy with it so far but wanted to hear opinions Prefer comfort and quietness. Safety is also important (of course) but I don't need performance tires on a sedate saloon. Anything out there now better than the GR90 based on the above requirements ? Or should I stick with GR90 ? Thanks
  5. yahoo reported : Top-secret exposé: Singapore helping US spy on Malaysia The Malay Mail Online – 48 minutes ago KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — Neighbouring Singapore is a key partner of the “5-Eyes” intelligence group which was revealed to have tapped telephones and monitored communications networks in Kuala Lumpur, according to more top secret documents leaked by intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden. In a report by Australian media group Fairfax Media today quoting Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad, it was revealed that Singapore is a key “third party” providing the ring — made of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — access to Malaysia’s communications channel. Singapore was included in a map published by NRC, which showed the US’ stranglehold on trans-Pacific communications channels through interception facilities on the US’ West coast, Hawaii and Guam. The facilities, in turn, tap all cable traffic across the Pacific Ocean, and links between Australia and Japan. In August, Fairfax had reported that the Singaporean intelligence is a partner of Australia’s electronic espionage agency, the Defence Signals Directorate, to tap the SEA-ME-WE-3 cable that runs from Japan, via Singapore, Djibouti, Suez and the Straits of Gibraltar to Northern Germany. This access was allegedly facilitated by Singaporean telecommunication operator Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), which is owned by Singapore government’s investment arm Temasek Holdings. Singapore’s head of civil service Peter Ong, who had previously been in charge of national security and intelligence co-ordination in its prime minister’s office, is the government’s representative on the telco firm’s board. It is believed that SingTel had been responsible in expanding the ties between Australia and Singapore’s intelligence and defence in the past 15 years, said the report. According to Fairfax, Malaysia and Indonesia had been key targets for both Australian and Singaporean intelligence even since the 1970s, since most of its telecommunications and Internet traffic goes through the island city-state. Last month, Snowden had revealed that the US runs a monitoring station in its Kuala Lumpur embassy to tap telephones and monitor communications networks. more stories, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/top-secret-expos-singapore-helping-us-spy-malaysia-052600023.html Knowing our neighbours, they will not let it goes down quietly ..... 6. My car which I bought 2nd hand comes with a slightly uneven driver side seat. Think the previous owner used to sit on one side of the seat. It's causing my spine problems as I easily spend 1-1.5hrs in my car a day. It's an Lexus IS250 and getting a stock seat seems like it'll cost me too much and most stockists in Singapore have told me they don't have it. So I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? How much would a good seat cost?
  7. Bro and Sis, please help to recommend good workshop for reparing Power window of Toyota Estima? The holder that hold the glass have been broken. I have long story with Sparkcarcare with this window repair. It will be 3rd time I send in to assemble nicely for the window since I cancel the repair. The current service agent try to offer me to change the whole glass window with the holders (I need to purchase my v-kool again. Where by the prevous agent mention only change the holder). I verified with Borne Toyota and MBM that I can only change the holder. MBM informs me that there is no stock for the holders but need to wait 2 weeks for purchase. The worst is that Sparkcarcare simply assemble back the window with 3-4 mm gaps open that allow rains to go in between glass and rubber seal. I send in 2nd time in a day to re-allign the window. Today I learn that they broke few clips of side panel and power door cover is loosing that I will send in at 3rd time. They also broke my window visor and agreed to replace tomorrow. I am speechless!!! I never have such problem with them since using the ctr for almost 6 yr for regular oil change since previous accord. I use them since it is the authorised shop for PI estima. The warranty just expired at Mar 13. So bro and sis, is there a better workshop for repairing Estima? MBM is okay? I think that Sparkcarcare may not good in repairing but only servicing oil. I feel scary with Sparkcarcare and wonder if they can continue to perform the repair.

  13. I always have this mindset when it comes to buy things, products and services. Especially when i am servicing my car or intending to upgrade some of the parts. When you are looking for cheap and good, it will not be fast. when you are looking for good and fast, it will not be cheap. when you are looking for fast and cheap, it will not be good. Just my 2 cents if thoughts! Do give me your opinion on this!
  14. Check out this article: http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/middle-cl...-160000747.html Good if you want to know what is OMV, ARF, loan calculations, etc based on the new rules. From here you can see how much the authorities are making from each car and yet there is still road taxes and ERP! I didn't know there was a vehicle excise duty to cover road-related projects! I thought road tax and ERP is mainly for that? Yet, we are getting more and more bumpy roads.
  15. I have this (junk), given to me by a friend. I am looking for a good quality jack to lift a medium size saloon car. Thanks in advance.

  18. Hi bros, am due for my 15k servicing but I do not want to go to the "free" workshop that my PI just set up coz honestly they are crap. I'm driving a Toyota Estima and if there are any Estima owners here that have a fav workshop can you share them with me or PM me pls. Alternatively I don't mind hearing the opinions of the other members of this forum. Only thing is its preferable if its in the East and they do not have a surcharge if you bring your own oil. Cheers!

  20. We will share a prayer with you. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1234079/1/.html Trial begins for ex-principal accused of misappropriating funds By Kimberly Spykerman | Posted: 29 October 2012 1334 hrs Click to enlarge Photos 1 of 1 Singapore Subordinate Courts (Photo: Anthony Chia, channelnewsasia.com) inShare 10 SINGAPORE : The former principal of Maris Stella High School who was charged with misappropriating nearly S$150,000 was in court on Monday for the opening of the trial. 65-year-old Anthony Tan Kim Hock, who retired in 2009, allegedly committed the offence in the school on 21 separate occasions between May 2004 and September 2009. The prosecution is proceeding with one charge - where Tan is alleged to have misappropriated about S$67,700 from the school's chapel building fund account between March and September 2009. He was still the school's principal then. The remaining 20 charges have been stood down for now. The prosecution has lined up nine witnesses. Three of them - an investigation officer from the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), a cashier from Mustafa shopping centre and an architect - took the stand on Monday. The court heard that Tan allegedly used the money from the school's chapel building fund to do rebuilding and renovation works for the Champagnat House in Flower Road. The Champagnat House is the residence of the Marist brothers - the lay-religious congregation Tan belongs to. Work began on the house in February 2008 and ended in May 2009. The court also heard that while Tan was not directly supervising the project, bills for some of the works such as stained glass and granite cladding - which involves the adhering of stones to the walls of a building - were sent to him. According to statements that Tan gave to the CAD in 2011, he said that he had already reimbursed the money taken from the chapel building fund. Of the 20 remaining charges that have been stood down, 13 of them involve a man known as Peter Lim - whose relation to Tan is not clear. Tan allegedly used money from the school management committee as well as the director-general of education school fund accounts to pay for items such as seven of Mr Lim's overseas school trips and an open water diving course in Pulau Tioman. The trial continues on Tuesday. - CNA/xq/ms
