  1. Finally.. after so long of considering , I got the Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2.. I had no choice.. PSS no size.. CSC5 didn't really appeal to me.. Well.. For now , it seems quiet... I will do a review once it hits 1k km... Damage : 370/pc Size : 235/50/R18 http://www.flickr.com/photos/87993356@N08/8127269444/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/87993356@N08/...in/photostream/
  2. Goodyear has chosen the 2012 Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) Commercial Vehicle Show to showcase their innovative self-inflating tire technology known as the Air Maintenance Technology (AMT). The system has been undergoing testing over the past few years. The tire is fitted with a peristaltic pump which consists of a tube with valves running along the bead. When the tire pressure drops, the valves open and the squeezing effect caused by the deformation of the tire rubber pumps air from the atmosphere into the chamber until the right pressure is achieved. Conversely, when the tire pressure is too high, the system can lower the pressure to the correct level. The beauty of the system is that no electronics are involved. "While the technology is complex, the idea behind the AMT system is relatively simple and powered by the tire itself as it rolls down the road," said Jean-Claude Kihn, Goodyear senior vice president and chief technical officer. If you think that replacement of punctured tire will become a thing of the past, think again. When the car comes to a halt, the system will cease to function as the rolling action is non-existent. This means that the punctured tire needs to be replaced before driving off unless the driver wants to put his alloy rim at risk. Goodyear has received grants from the United States Department of Energy's Office of Vehicle Technology to aid further development. Keeping tires at the optimal operating pressure can lower emissions, prolong tire lifespan, and enhance safety and vehicle performance. If the system proves itself in commercial vehicles, it may be adopted for regular road car use within a few years.

  9. I attended the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 over at the Proton Test Track in Shah Alam, Malaysia recently. The whole day event put me in a Honda Civic 2.0 & 1.8 sedans, a 320i and taxi rides in the same cars too. It was all good fun and part of Goodyear in creating more consumer awareness to the users in this region. I suppose events like these do, but this time I'd like to talk about grassroots motorsport, in particular, drifting. So what has drifting got to do with the launch in the first place? Quite a lot. You see, the Eagle F1 tires, both in the higher performance Asymetric 2 and the Directional 5 are competent handlers. The participants was taken in taxi rides around the Proton Test Track banked oval track at speeds in excess of 150km/h and the tires handled very predictably. Even through the high speed chicanes and banked corners ( both taken at over 145km/h in either a Honda Civic 2.0 & 1.8 sedan, BMW 525i or a BMW 320i) you can tell that the only person really worried was the passenger who had too much for lunch and wanted to keep its contents in the stomach instead of all over the floor of the cars (basically yours truly and a few other people who long ago realized that they are mortal instead of otherwise). The cars shod with the Eagle F1s handled well and even from the passenger seat you can tell that the drivers weren't at all worked up taking the corners and chicanes at speeds above 140km/h. This would mean that high speed lane changes and emergency maneuvers will not cause the cars to lose control. Unless you are a total twit, that is. Anyway, these are high performance all-weather tires and being Goodyear tires, they are not really cheap rubber. Everything has a place in the price structure of tires sold and there are cheap ones and slightly pricier ones (that actually give you that extra 5-10% of grip or handling when you really need it). Anyway, since the Eagle F1s are actually on the higher echelons of tire prices, what got me wondering is the fact that if you are into grassroots motorsport like drifting, you would be broke faster than you can say

  14. Looking at these 2 models for my coming tyre change & wonders if any Bros or Sis here have used the above before
  15. Hi all, I currently using Goodyear LS2000. My tyre profile is 215 / 50/ 17 inch. I had been using this set of tyre for 1 year ++. Until recently i come back from cameron highland, my tyre like no grip. Especially i do a fast pickup, my tyre is spinning easily even on a dry road. I do a tyre thread check, no sign of uneven wear. The thread still have a lot. I even do a tyre rotation. There is one time i was at sengkang compass point shopping mall entrance. The entrance was a slant right side slope up. When i was travelling up the slope, my front tyre suddenly lose grip and it was keep spinning. My car was stuck on the slope. No matter, how hard i step on my pedal, the tyre keep spinning until a lot of smoke. Intially I thought normal, because that time is rainning and wet ground. Wah lau damn paiseh, behind of my car all siam me. Slowly, i reverse and go in a straight manner then was able to clear up the slope. Even the security guard come and see wht happen. Today also same thing happen at People park complex shopping mall. The entrance was smiliar to compass point slant right side slope up. My tyre also lose grip and spinning like no body business. Frankly speaking, normal driving or straight up slope totally no problem. Even i do a fast hard corner, i still feel the tyre grip. Now i totally have phobia of clearing up the slope especially shopping mall carpark. I really don't understand why my tyre is losing grip while the thread still have a lot. Anyone can advice me? or having the same situation as me? Should i change away all my tyre? Sorry for my long winded story.

  20. Am thinking of changing to these shoes for my next change... Any feedback from bros who have used this? Profile should be 195 or 205/65/15. Told that its quiet and all rounder good tyre and made in Japan.
  21. Need to change to new tyre soon. Which one I shall buy: LS2000 or V12. I'm looking for comfort & quiet tyre and a little grip during wet. Tyre Size : 245 / 45 x 19" Price for both are almost the same. Below $400 per piece. Thanks for all the input
  22. Finally found a shop that has stock for RS-02 and finally swapped my Assymetric. Anyone here using Assymetric? I am just doing a survey to see if there is any issue with this tyre. My Assymetric clocked 21000 km and the inner tyre surface block became uneven, hence need to change. I have a friend with same Assymetric having a cracked side wall visible only from the inside and with same mileage as mine.
  23. Ok guys, be prepared to pay more for your rubber - I meant rubber that is worn on your car Yokohama Rubber Co. recently announced that it would increase the export price of tire products effective January 2010. The price increase applies to all exported tire products for passenger cars, light trucks, trucks, buses, and vehicles for construction and industry. The domestic market is spared from the price hike. The maximum markup is around 15 percent, with even larger markup applied to specific regions and products. Reason given for the price hike is that Yokohama is unable to absorb the increase in prices of natural rubber and crude oil products anymore. I did some research on the internet and found that Goodyear, the world's largest tire maker, has raised the prices of it's products in North America by 6 percent in November 2009 to offset higher raw material costs. Hence, it seems like all tire makers will soon follow the footstep of Yokohama. The chart above shows the movement of the crude oil price over the past one year. Indeed, it is showing an upward trend and I would expect the trend to continue as the economy picks up further in the coming year. It looks like drivers have to be prepared to fork out more for their tires in the coming year. For those who are intending to replace the footwear for their ride, do make your way to your nearest tire shop real quick.
