  2. Maserati Financial Services is issuing a law suit against Jenna Jameson, an American entrepreneur and former pornographic actress who has been called the world's most famous adult-entertainment performer and "The Queen of Porn". Jameson apparently leased a Maserati Quattroporte S for US$2,299 (S$2,925) a month in 2011 but hasn
  3. [extract] The current Fiat Bravo has been a little long in the tooth. It has been around since 2007 and its main competitors such as the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra have either come out with newer models or undergone facelift since 2007. The unloved Fiat Bravo never achieves the expected annual sales of 120,000 units, with its best year in 2008 when 95,292 units were delivered. Rumors suggested that a hatchback version of the upcoming Fiat Viaggio sedan would be marketed as the new Bravo. With reference to the patent drawings of the Dodge Dart hatchback released recently, Theophilus Chin, a car enthusiast living in Singapore, came up with a set of renderings for the new Bravo. 5. According to Bernhard Maier, Porsche's head of sales and marketing, the brand has no plans to sell a car costing less than the Boxster although it has set sights on reaching an annual sales target of 200,000 units by 2018. "To build a Porsche for 30,000 euros currently doesn't fit our brand," Bernhard Maier told the Automotive News Europe Congress in Monaco. The extraordinary purchase experience is not for free and the entry price is currently covered with the Boxster and in the future by the Macan." The Macan is Porsche's second SUV, positioned below the Cayenne. Last year, the company sold 117,000 units, representing an increase of 18% over 2010 sales figures. Surprisingly, the bulky Cayenne SUV is now Porsche's best seller, accounting for half of the firm's sales in the first quarter of 2012. Despite the increase in sales, exclusivity is still achievable, according to Mr Maier. "If the experts are right and the world markets grow to 100 million units in 2018 and Porsche would sell 200,000 units, we would have a world market share of 0.2 percent. I don't believe this would be a drastic change in exclusiveness." he added. Porsche has my respects for not blindly chasing after figures and diluting the brand's image in the process.
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvPYvz8Ioh8 It seemed only yesterday when the Mk 6 Golf was launched. The existing Golf was a milestone model for the Volkswagen Group as it heralds a new corporate face for the brand, which is now commonly seen on the Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, etc. Now, the Mk 6 Golf is moving one step closer to retirement as the seventh-generation Golf GTI prototype has been caught testing around the Nurburgring. Of more interest to motoring enthusiasts would be the rumour that the hot hatch could churn out as much as 260bhp according to Autocar Magazine. This is much higher than the 220 bhp to 230bhp range that was originally expected. Perhaps, VW thought that they should step up their game as the Koreans are already generating 274bhp from a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit. If the rumour proved to be true, this would mean that the Golf R's replacement, which in its current form has a 266hp from a 2.0L turbo, would get well over 300bhp. More importantly, the front differential will get a new set up prevent wheel spin from the car
  7. [extract] Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar has been fired. This comes as no surprise as he was recently suspended from work in May due to a complaint made against him by the company's ultimate holding company, DRB-HICOM Berhad. The complaint was basically for his misuse of the bleeding company funds, i.e flying around in a private jet and renovating his house in England. This also comes as no surprise as Group Lotus has a new owner
  8. About 3 years after the launch of the Astra hatchback, Opel has finally revealed the Astra in its sedan form. This should be the final Astra variant after the hatchback, Sports Tourer station wagon and the GTC coupe. The GM subsidiary expects the Astra sedan to do well in markets such as Germany and Spain and see growth opportunities in Eastern and Central Europe. The new Astra sedan measures 4,658mm long, 1,814mm wide and 1,476mm tall, making it 239mm longer than the hatchback. The car is even longer than the VW Jetta, which is already quite lengthy for a compact sedan in my opinion. The car provides 460 liters of trunk volume and up to a maximum of 1,010 liters when the 60:40 split rear seats are folded down. When I lay my eyes on the Astra sedan

  11. Skoda's new compact sedan, the Rapid, has been caught naked on the Nurburgring with testers pushing the car to the limit. The crucial new model will slot into the Czech automaker's global portfolio between the Fabia and Octavia, and will play a lead role in its ambitious plans to almost double global sales by 2018. Based on the MissionL design concept and looking like a downsized Octavia, the car is expected to compete against the likes of the Mazda3 and Ford Focus. It is likely that the car will be built on a stretched Volkswagen Polo underpinnings rather than the larger Golf platform. You may ask if the Rapid will cannibalize on the sales of the Octavia. That is the question on my mind too. According to Matthew Wiesner, Director of Skoda Australia, the company planned to grow the Octavia into a true medium-size car to better take on the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat. But does that mean Skoda will upsize the Superb or do away with the nameplate? No one has that answer now. The new Rapid will be revealed this summer with its world premiere to take place at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September before it goes on sale across Europe this fall. Other parts of the world would get it in 2013. Expect the car to be powered by a range of 1.2-litre to 1.4-litre TSI engines with DSG transmission. MissionL Concept

  13. Before you order a 1 kg beef steak next time, think twice. You could be polluting the environment more than driving to the steakhouse. The Dutch and Austrian scientists have used science to access the impact of beef consumption on the environment and have come up with some quantifiable figures. For instance, in Brazil, an average 335 kg of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere for every kg of beef produced. To put things into perspective, that is equal to driving an Audi A7 3.0 TDI, which is giving out CO2 at a rate of 152g/km, for 2203km! On the other hand, eating beef produced in the Netherlands is less sinful. It equates to 22kg of CO2 produced for every kg of meat. The method used by the scientists is called

  16. An Apple patent has been making rounds around the internet which shows a steering-wheel-mounted remote control. Recovering Apple patents is not uncommon and any gadget fan knows Apple likes experimentation. Interestingly this was among 21 patents that were granted to Apple this week. As you can see it looks like a typical Apple clickwheel that we are familiar with and looks similar in size to an iPod shuffle. With reference to the technical diagrams, the remote can be clamped to the steering wheel and operate any idevice using the car entertainment screen. There have been many who have looked at using in-car screens to mirror smartphone displays, and looks like Apple (being Apple) may be working on something similar as well. The Apple
  17. General Motors (GM) has decided to pull its advertising campaigns from Facebook, citing that their paid advertisement had little effect on customers. The move comes just days ahead of Facebook's initial public offering. GM spokesman, Pat Morrissey, commented that the automaker is reassessing its Facebook advertising and clarified that the review is part of a regular analysis the company conducts on spending its advertising funds effectively. "We look at this with all media outlets, we look at the effectiveness," he said. "We move money around to various outlets." GM's announcement adds fuel to critics who say that Facebook, and other tech sites, may be overvalued. More than 50 percent of Facebook users say they never click on Facebook's sponsored advertisement, according to a recent Associated Press-CNBC poll. In addition, only 12 percent of respondents say they feel comfortable making purchases over Facebook, questioning the effectively of monetizing the social network platform. Facebook
  18. After General Motors (GM) decided to terminate its $10 million Facebook advertisement budget, rival Ford Motor quickly point out that the company is sticking by its commitment to the world's largest social network. Global head of social media for Ford, Scott Monty, tweeted that Ford believes Facebook advertisements are effective as part of a general strategy, but not as a "straight media buy". His comments seem to imply that GM does not know how to harness the effectiveness of social media fully. Ford has more than 1.5 million

    Opel

Opel has just announced that it will be replacing the core of its petrol and diesel engines within the next year with three brand new engine families. For the time being, Opel has revealed details on one engine family which is a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit with direct injection and start/stop technologies. Opel says the new SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) ECOTEC petrol unit will be offered across several car lines in various states of tune with the most potent version delivering 197hp at 4,700rpm and 300Nm from as low as 1,700rpm. This version produces more torque than Ford

  21. The world is full of strange news nowadays. A few weeks ago, we had a case whereby a woman in China killed a shop owner by squeezing his testicles due to a dispute over parking space for her scooter. Now, we have a man in the US who is suing BMW for causing an erection which lasted for two years. The plaintiff, by the name of Henry Wolf, is claiming that a four-hour ride in his BMW bike has caused him two years of continuous erection. He alleged that the Corbin-Pacific ridge-like seat is to be blamed. The after-market seat is usually fitted with the aim of making the motorcycle more comfortable. Dr Michael Lutz from the Michigan Institute of Urology told a US radio station that It
  22. Formula One supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, will be tying the knot for the third time in his life. The new lady in his life is 34 year-old Brazilian beauty, Fabiana Flossi, whom he met when she was working as a marketer for the Brazilian Grand Prix. After divorcing his second wife, former Croatian model Salvica, Ecclestone said he wanted to remain single for the rest of his life. When love strikes, it is hard to resist sometimes. The couple has been living together for quite a while now, around about the same time Bernie got mugged in London in Nov 2010. Ecclestone said, "We are officially engaged and it is not going to be a long engagement either." Ecclestone told the Daily Mail, "We have been together for two years and what makes it work is that Fabiana has a really good sense of humour, and when you live with me you need to have a sense of humour," he explained. At five foot ten, Fabiana is shorter than Slavica, but still considerably taller than her fiancee. The humorous Eccelstone joked by saying that he did not need to go down on one knee! Now, who says that short men have a shortage of love luck. Fabiana's diamond engagement ring is thought to have cost about US$160,000 (S$197,721). The 81 year-old Ecclestone has three daughters, Deborah, Tamara and Petra from his first and second marriage.
  23. [extract] Disputes over parking space are quite common. Most of them do not end up in a fight. However, in a bizzare case at Haikou City in Southern China, a man was murdered in a rather unusual manner. Apparently, a 41 year old woman tried to park her scooter in front of the deceased
