  1. Hi, I know that quite a lot of cars in the market have a minimum Petrol Grade to use specified at Octane 95. eg. Mit lancer, Nissan Sunny. I wonder what is the minimum petrol grade for other makes ?? eg continental cars like Renault, BMW etc. Why is it that the minimum petrol grade required are different & what it generally says about the car engine ? If a minimum petrol grade specified is say Octane 95, what would happen to the car if a lower grade eg Octane 92 petrol is used ? Lower performance when driving ?? What would happen if one uses a higher grade petrol eg Octane 98 or Shell V-power ? Will the car get more power & also better fuel efficiency ?
  2. How to determine which grade the car shld use? Err .. I getting my new ride soon.. I saw on some website. The Minimum Fuel Grade is 95. Can i still use 92 ? Please clarify.. ***New car owner here **
  3. SPC dont have something equivalent to V-Power or Caltex Platinum right? My experience so far is that SPC98 gives me better mileage compared to Caltex Platinum. Do others feel the same?
  4. After slightly more than 2 years (since the day I collected my ride till now) non-stop monitoring of FC for my Optra 1.6A, I discovered some interesting result on choice of petrol grade used. Average mileages per liter when on Ron 95 petrol is 10.55 km Average mileages per liter when on Ron 98 petrol is 11.64 km My current overall average FC is per litre 11.46 km, and I have already clocked slightly above 44 K (to be precise is 44,004 km), and have pumped 3840 litres of petrol so far. So if I were to on only one grade of petrol, I will not have any saving if I were to use only the Ron 95 petrol, and instead I may have to pay more on this
  5. Hello everyone, i got a nagging question.. recently, i come across a post in a forum that mention that using API specification SJ grade is suitable for modern cars? Is it true, from what i have obtained from the web, its mentioned that SJ grade though still existent is getting obsolete.. The most recent addition and current grade is SM grade, if not one can also fall back on SL grade... SM grade oil are considered more stringent and thus of better quality than that of SL, and likewise SJ... mmz... i was wondering for the range of budget cars like vios, altis, sunny, lancer, jazz and etc... is SJ grade suitable? i think its not, at least the manual states a minimum of SL grading, if possible get SM grade... oil gurus, can help me on this? Trex101? Genie47? or simply anyone in the forum who would be more knowledgable in this area... thanks!
  6. Hi All, just curious to know which grade of petrol do you pump for your starlets. Thanks!
  7. bros out there, those cable that connect from head unit to amplifier then to various speakers is call RCA cables, right? if yes, which grade is the best (with noise reduction) cable currently avaliable in the market? what to look for ... i mean specification of cable? i do not have a good knowledge on ICE so hopefully someone out there able to advise on cables matters. thank you
  8. Hi Guys, First time posting n first time car owner. Just got my lancer sports two wks ago. Tmr 1K servicing. Could anyone pls enlighten me wat to look out for regarding the servicing (at statelite kiosk). So far pump full tank twice. Notice a lot of diff with petrol grade 98 & 95 in terms of FC. 98 grade can go abt 12km/L, 95 grade can only abt 10.5km/L. Do u know y is it so? Thank u for reading!
  9. To all Optra owner, From your experience, which one should we should ??
  10. OK. It was cold morning at 1+am. I was on the AYE. The coast was clear. I dropped to 4th. Floored her and she went like a hare being pursued by a coyote. 90....100....120...130.140.150.160.170. My Starlet friends from behind saw in awe what a 16V engine can do at the high end. No vibrations that I experienced on the E3 with RON92 gas. What I have in my tank is Petronas Primax which is a RON97 gas. So those guys contemplating to go up north to "clear carbon", run her around here until the tank reaches "E". Fill her up with RON98 gas before Woodlands Checkpoint. Enjoy the power! If you don't want this, I suggest you stick to 100 because I feel the vibrations at 120 as well with RON92 gas.
  11. Tried searching but to no avail. Anyone know of the minimum grade of petrol for N16 as I had gotten my sets of wheels from dealer, no mannual attached. Thanks for any info. Cheers.
  12. Hi quite a newbie to this stuff. Like to understand by changing to a higher grade cable, what type of difference will i get. Any recommendation for cables and installers/tuner. Thanks.
  13. Hi Guys Anyone know where I can find single grade Engine Oil? Or a multi grade with the narrowest span of viscosity. e.g. Redline 20W50. Has anyone tried any of these...... (1) Agip (2) Amsoil (3) Elf (is it only for motorcycles?) (4) Fuch (5) Pennzoil (6) Redline (7) Royal Purple (8) Yacco How do they compare to the overly advertised & hyped Caltax, Mobil and Shell? Check out this extract from http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Multi viscosity oils are one of the great improvements in oils, but they should be chosen wisely. Always use a multi grade with the narrowest span of viscosity that is appropriate for the temperatures you are going to encounter. In the winter base your decision on the lowest temperature you will encounter, in the summer, the highest temperature you expect. The polymers can shear and burn forming deposits that can cause ring sticking and other problems. 10W-40 and 5W-30 require a lot of polymers (synthetics excluded) to achieve that range. This has caused problems in diesel engines, but fewer polymers are better for all engines. The wide viscosity range oils, in general, are more prone to viscosity and thermal breakdown due to the high polymer content. It is the oil that lubricates, not the additives. Oils that can do their job with the fewest additives are the best.
  14. I notice engine oil comes in different grade, 15W50, 20W50, 5W40 etc.. how to i decode it? what does the 15 means? W50 means ? Which is better than another ? Thanks to all the experts :-)
