  1. Here are the first images of what the new Volkswagen Polo GTI will look like and it will be unveiled in the flesh at next month's Geneva Motor Show. It definitely looks like it deserves the GTI badge, and goes like one too. The highly anticipated new hot hatch will be powered by Volkswagen's 1.4 litre TSI engine which pumps out 177bhp which is quite a lot for a hatch this size, and of course, it comes with the standard 7 speed DSG transmission. It also features Volkswagen's XDS electronic differential which uses the brakes to slow the inside wheel instead of limiting power, which in turn cuts down understeer. These German's never stop inventing the good stuff.. The suspension has been lowered by 15mm all round and the Polo GTI even has its own spring and damper settings. And like the last Polo GTI, its styled to look like a mini Golf GTI which isn't really surprising but the good thing is you get the similar five-spoke polished 17 inch alloys and the same honeycomb grille with a red frame which really is minimalism at its best. You see Hyundai's and Swifts with that red strip which frankly is just wrong.. The red stitching on the inside and finally, the flat-bottomed steering wheel which is one of the best additions you could possibly ask for. When will this be here? No one knows, but I'm certain that it'll make its way to our little island. For now, we'll wait for it to appear at the Geneva Motor Show.

    A better Bravo

Fiat has announced details on its 2010 Bravo hatch, which has received a few minor cosmetic revisions for the model year. On the outside, the Bravo's upper and lower front grilles have been re-trimmed and are now offered either in black or chrome finish while the headlamps on all models are smoked. Furthermore, the mirrors and door handles are finished in the color as the body on all trim levels while Fiat added two new colors to the palette (a different shade of gray and a pear finish). A new set of available optional packages and refreshed designs, colors for the seat and door panel upholstery complete the list of changes. There has been no mention of any updates to the powertrains, so expect them to remain similar to the current offerings. The Bravo's sales has been lacklusture in the Singapore market thus far. Perhaps, some aggressive marketing efforts by TTS Eurocars would be required to raise the brand's awareness among motorists, just like what Audi, Volkswagen and Alfa Romeo have done in recent months. The revised Bravo came just in time to face off against newer models such as the Opel Astra, Ford Focus and Renault Megane. However, my opinion is that the minor cosmetic changes is insufficient to fend off the fresher competitions. A more powerful 1.4 T-jet engine for the automatic version would be on my wish list.
  3. The Volkswagen Polo has made its presence known in India. Eagerly awaited by the Indian market, the Polo will now be available in showrooms by March 2010. Volkswagen is not the only car-maker to venture into the Indian market, Nissan, Ford and General Motors have also taken the plunge and started manufacturing their cars in India. The Chakan factory has an annual capacity of around 110,000 cars and Volkswagen claims it to be the most state of the art amongst the Volkswagen group worldwide. The plant was set up with an initial investment of 580 million Euros and is also one of the largest investments done by a German company in India. It is also the only car manufacturing factory that is operated by the Germans that includes the entire range of the production process from the press shop, body and paint shop to the assembly. Large automakers like Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford and Nissan have now awoken to the fact that Indian consumers prefer small affordable cars rather than the huge luxury models that sell well elsewhere. I think that Volkswagen have taken a huge step to cater to the Indian market, but I'm starting to wonder whether the Polo's in Singapore will come from the same factory in India. If that does happen, it is possible that the price may go down due to the lower cost of production. However, we all know that whenever a car company outsources their production process to other countries like Thailand for instance in the case of Honda and Toyota, the quality has never really been the same as when they were originally produced in Japan. The standard set by the Polo from South Africa is the benchmark and I do hope that the Polo will be equally good wherever its made.

    2010 Opel Astra

Here's the all new Opel Astra. It projects a more elegant and classy image than the outgoing model and has grown alot is all dimensions, being 170 mm longer, 160 mm wider and 50 mm taller. With such dimensions, it engulfs the Mark VI Golf. Not only that, I feel that the Astra managed to look more sophisticated than the Golf. A bigger car inevitably weighs more. Opel said the new Astra carries an average 40 kg more than the equivalent old car. On the positive side, torsional rigidity of its chassis increased by a massive 43 percent, and NVH level is improved significantly with upgraded insulation. As expected, the new Astra is much more refined than its predecessor. Its wind and road noise level is among the lowest in the C-segment. A new series of turbocharged power-plants makes its debut on the new Astra. The 1.4L turbo churns out 140hp while the larger 1.6L unit delivers an impressive 180 hp. The Astra comes with an optional 6 speed automatic gearbox that is found on the Chevrolet Cruze. However, it's no DSG. The Astra does come with the ingredients of a successful hatchback. It shares the same underpinnings as the recently launched Chevrolet Cruze, which has received commendable feedback from local car magazines with regards to its body control and handling characteristics. I can't wait to see it when it arrives at our local shore.
  5. hi, i am thinking of getting the above. the price is $72,500. is this a good price or should i bargain for more stuff? AWD consumes more fuel? thks for your comments.
  6. Hi, I am posting on the behalf on my friend who owned a 1.6 subaru hatchback. He has a <6 mths hachback, but has knocking sound at the rear when turning either right or left in the third mths. The sound is louder when turning U-turns. Twice he has went to Image @ TPY for checkup, yet the SA is unable to resolved the problem. The SA even ask him to close one eye and accept it as the SA claimed my friend is not the first car which is having this problem... So like if there is any subaru car owners or any other car owners who are/were facing this problem before? And what is being done to rectify the problem? Or is there is good workshop to recommend where I ask my friend to send his car for further checkup... Please advise. Thanks you

  10. (1.0L 3cyl Gas/Elec Hybrid 5M) Here is its rear Side got a little ugly The good: Best-of-breed gas mileage; clear, simple instruments and controls; solid support options. The bad: Horrendous stereo speakers; compromised rear visibility; lacks digital entertainment and GPS navigation options; noisy. The bottom line: The Honda Insight gets best-of-breed gas mileage, but its lack of digital comforts and cabin room constrains its uses. bla, bla, bla (long reviews, lazy to copy) Full reviews:http://x.ygddai.com/cars/20071101/2005_Hon..._Hatchback.html What do you guys thing about this

  15. Corolla enthusiasts happy laio, another option landed Singapore The Toyota Corolla Fielder is the latest generation Corolla hatchback. It is available in 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre engine variations (Singapore only 1.5-litre available) . Both comes with Super CVT-i (Super Continuously Variable Transmission-intelligent) transmission that provides outstanding cruising and environmental performance. The Corolla Fielder features the world's first one-touch double-folding rear seats with backrests that can be folded flat with a single flip of a lever located in the rear cargo space. Key components of the front and rear suspensions has also been optimally tuned to provide brisk maneuvering and cruising stability, as well as a comfortable ride. The Corolla Fielder has a fuel efficiency of 17.2km/l. An Eco Drive Indicator lights up when the vehicle is being efficiently operated to raise the driver's awareness of environmentally considerate driving and contribute to higher fuel efficiency. Inside the cabin, the backseat floor hump has been minimized to create flat-surfaced legroom, enabling three adults to sit in the rear comfortably. The driver gets a steering wheel with a telescoping function that allows its position to be adjusted front to rear for a comfortable driving posture. To enhance visibility, the top surface of the instrument panel is low while the front pillars have been extended forward and made slimmer. Price : Approx $60k+/- [inline 10369_0_l.jpg] [inline 10369_3_l.jpg] [inline 10369_4_l.jpg] [inline 10369_8_l.jpg] [inline 10369_9_l.jpg]
  16. HI all, Just purchased my toyota yaris 1.5, model G. This is my first car. Any bro owns a yaris and care to share the pleasure of driving it or the problems encountered???
  17. I'm looking for a hatchback for my wife. Don't want to spend too much, below $40K if possible. Not looking for performance but comfort, practicality and ease of maintenance are important considerations. Which hatchback would you recommend and why? Would you recommend buying new or used? Should I go for PI and save some $$$? What're the risks of going with PI? Any advice, comment, view and opinion would be much appreciated. Cheers!
  18. Anyone knows who brings the above, what cost, and if any new model is coming anytime soon? Thx.
  19. Why only hatchback has rear wiper ??? - bcoz hatchback's rear windscreen tilt at higher angle, thus accumulate rain/mist? - bcoz hatchback cost more, thus, add rear wiper as a value-add item? - bcoz hatchback was designed this way donkey years back? - bcoz this makes hatchback safer for some reasons?? I can't find a reason.. any smartie who knows?
  20. Shopping for a compact hatchback, hence this poll to see what people think. I've listed a quick breakdown of each car here: Honda Jazz - Pros: Fuel economy, many boot configuration options give space, lower road tax from smaller engine. Cons: Small engine down on power, higher insurance. Been in the market fairly long (possibly due to be replaced soon). Mitsubishi Colt - Pros: Price and rebates package, eager MIVEC engine. Cons: Light steering with little feel. Mitsubishi quality (or lack thereof). Just a little younger than Jazz. Suzuki Swift - Pros: Price, and its low and ground hugging stance compared to the rest suggests it might resist body roll better with spirited driving (which I do often). Cons: Resale value, the brand is traditionally viewed as a cheap brand "Soo soo ki" (lose lose go). The previous Suzuki Swift GL was quite thin and rattly, even though this current one is a quantum leap forward, I am unsure of durability. Toyota Yaris - Pros: Most powerful engine of the four, and quoted as quickest to 100kph. Fresh styling and fairly new model, not very common on the roads yet. Cons: Thai-made. Toyota's traditional strength resale value might take a hit due to the car's origin. The Soluna is still a bad memory to some. Similarly to build quality. Centre-mounted dash console not to my taste. Thin profile tires suggest not much grip in corners, and copious amounts of body roll.
  21. After the Administrator "hung" up my thread, I tried to post this in the classified but got a funny message that the section is only for members. Strange ! I am already logged in. Don't know why ! Anyway, here is the picture of the rack for those who are interested. CBX
  22. Reporting from Australia Hatchback hate: Lamborghini chased By Dylan Welch March 13, 2006 The road rage incident started with a glance and quickly became one of the more bizarre pursuits on Sydney's roads. As the driver of a yellow Lamborghini sat in peak hour traffic in Homebush at around 8.20am yesterday he flashed an annoyed look at the driver of a Suzuki Swift, who was booming music out of his car stereo, say police. It was hardly a call to arms, but his frown provoked a 30-minute pursuit along Parramatta Road from Homebush to Glebe as the Lamborghini attempted to get away from the clearly agitated driver of the Suzuki, who tailgated the supercar and at one point even attempted to ram it. "The Suzuki Swift was changing lanes, getting behind the Lamborghini and tailgating and also coming beside the Lamborghini at lights and revving [his car] and yelling at the driver," Inspector Sue Trusty of Glebe Police told smh.com.au. Despite being hopelessly outclassed by the supercar, the driver of the diminutive hatchback managed to pursue the Lamborghini through heavy traffic to Glebe, where the frightened driver flagged down a police car. Police were unable to catch the Suzuki as it sped down a side street and disappeared. The shaken Lamborghini driver lodged an incident report with officers at Glebe police station, leaving his car parked in Talfourd Street in a restricted area reserved for police cars. He was then given a lift home by police, leaving the luxury vehicle to be picked up by his company. Inspector Trusty suggested the driver of the Suzuki may have been suffering from delusions of grandeur during the pursuit. "When they were stopping at lights he was the one revving up. He must have been delirious if he thought he was going to drag [the Lamborghini] off." The high-end Lamborghini, one of only 60 in Australia, can reach 100kmh in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of over 300kmh. The Suzuki Swift hits 100/kmh in 10.0 seconds and has a top speed of 190kmh. Police inquiries are continuing.
  23. Lotus hot hatchback to be unveiled 04 February 2006 CHRIS STARKIE, EDP BUSINESS EDITOR Hatchback concept car designed by Lotus at Hethel, and due to be launched at the Geneva Motor Show. Norfolk sport car manufacturer Lotus is to unveil this sleek five door APX hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show. It's a hatchback with a difference as this car is powered by a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 engine, and is unlike anything else Lotus has developed in recent years. But there is virtually no chance of the APX ever being produced with a Lotus badge, as the company only has plans to develop more high-performance sports cars. Its latest new model, the Lotus Europa, an enlarged and more comfortable version of the Elise, is also due to go on show at the Geneva show which starts later this month. The APX concept car has been put together by the Hethel-based company's engineering division to demonstrate the hi-tech design capabilities of its Versatile Vehicle Architecture platform. Lotus hopes to sell the platform and its design expertise to other motor manufacturers around the world. It could even produce the car for another manufacturer on its Hethel production lines. Over the years the company has worked closely with a number of other car manufacturers to develop a range of projects. The most recent collaboration was with Vauxhall to produce the Vauxhall VX220 which was closely based around the Lotus Elise. Lotus believes there is huge potential for it to develop cars of the future using its Versatile Vehicle Architecture, especially for low volume niche products. A Lotus spokesman said:
  24. All of you who think the Verna/Accent looks yucky... Take a look at the 3 door SE hatchback targeted for end of 2006.... Of course. Hyundai jazz up the model with lots of cool extras... But it's supposed to be a 1.8 or 2 L turbo-charged .... Plenty of horses inside. Check out the cool exhaust and the illuminated interior dials.
