  5. Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Durai out of jail By Judith Tan T.T. DURAI was released from jail on Monday morning after serving two-thirds of his three-month sentence for using a fake invoice to cheat the charity into paying $20,000 to an interior designer friend. He walked out of the Queenstown Remand Prison at 10.43 am, dressed in a white shirt and greyish dark pants. He seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight and his hair has turned a greyish white. He was greeted by his son and was quickly whisked away by a burly man into a waiting Hyundai Tucson car. Durai, 59, started his jail term on June 10, and was released after he was given a one-third remission of his sentence, most probably for 'good behaviour'. His journey to jail dated to July 2005 when a defamation suit he lost led to inquiries into the affairs of Singapore's biggest charity. Durai and the NKF board resigned en masse, and various government agencies went over the charity's books with a fine tooth comb. He lost a civil suit filed by the NKF's new leadership in February last year, and was ordered to pay $4 million back in damages. He has paid $1.4 million so far. Criminal charges were brought against him in 2006. His appeal against his conviction and sentence was turned down. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_266840.html fwah.... Queenstown really transform a person. He looks like 70+ then 59.
  6. July 10, 2008 Probe into M'sian budget hotels filming couples in sex acts MALAYSIAN police will investigate claims that budget hotels in Klang are being used to film couples having sex and selling the footage to pornographic VCD and DVD sellers. Klang Asst Commissioner Mohamad Mat Yusop said police will follow up on a report in a Malay daily that rooms at these hotels are fitted with hidden cameras placed in the television set and air-condition unit to capture couple in the sex act. 'The report in the Malay daily is the first that we have heard of such incidents taking place and since it is illegal to have such cameras in hotel rooms we will definitely carry out investigation soon,' he said. He said the making and selling of pornographic VCDs and DVDs was another offence and the police would put a stop to it if the claims were true. The DVDs and VCDs were sold for between RM10 (S$4.19) and RM18 each and featured mostly teenagers and students from institutions of higher learning. The Malay newspaper report said that a 23 volume set of DVDs of the sex romp could fetch RM3,000, besides the royalties for each copy sold. -- The Star/ANN. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_256433.html
  7. Since I won't be bringing my family for a short trip to Malaysia this school holiday we had decided to stay a night in our local hotel over this weekend. Was pretty surprised that most hotel had up their prices very steeply even not much with corporate rate. Just a few example :- 4-5 Stars weekend rate w/bf Nett Hotel Intercon > S$380 The Marriot > S$400 Merchant Court > S$350 Mandarin Oriental > S$400 Meritus Mandarin > S$380 (was less than S$200 w/bf for 2 nights in 2003-2004) Marina Mandarin > S$330 (was less than S$200 w/bf for 2 nights in 2003-2004) Finally booked a night at Marina Mandarin for S$260 Nett w/o breakfast. Can visit PC show as well. Even 3 Stars hotels quoted S$250-S$300. A 3D2N trip to Malacca at Equatorial probably costs about S$300-S$350 all in.
  8. I am starting this thread due to the recent "explosion" of polls on extra-maritial affairs and stuff like that. So in your opinion, which is the most value for money and discreet (with accessible or free parking) budget hotel? Feel free to share.
