Taken from another place: Dec 29, 2010, ST Nightmare over for 44 Singaporean home owners in JB But they have to fork out more money to get deeds By Elizabeth Looi, Malaysia Correspondent PUTRAJAYA: A 10-year battle to get the deeds to homes they bought near Johor Baru ended for 44 Singaporeans yesterday, but the deal agreed on will cost them even more. Each of them will have to pay a bank 12.5 per cent of the cost of their houses and another RM3,000 (S$1,200) in disbursement costs, in a deal reached in the Court of Appeal here yesterday. This means the buyers will have to pay the bank about RM53,000 each for their title deeds. The bank said they each must pay 10 per cent of the amount by Jan 31 and the balance by May 31, or it will auction off their properties. Despite the fact that they have to shell out more money, the buyers were relieved by the ruling. It has been taxing and costly for them to travel to Putrajaya for the court hearing and mediation. Each trip to Malaysia cost them RM1,500 - used to charter a bus. 'It has been a long-drawn affair and we want closure,' said businessman Kumaran Pillai, 40. 'If we get the title deeds, we can do other things, like selling off the properties.' Yesterday's decision, however, was not the end of the case for other Singaporeans who bought property in the development. A number of them have chosen to appeal against the earlier decision by the JB High Court that had allowed the bank to auction off their properties. The Court of Appeal has yet to set a date for the next hearing. The protracted housing nightmare began when the Singaporeans, mostly retirees, bought the houses in the project built by Focus Development in 1998. Taken in by promises of condominium facilities, such as a swimming pool and 24-hour security, most buyers paid cash for the properties. But two years later, the developer went bust, leaving them in the lurch. Some of the buyers were then forced to collectively raise RM380,000 to build roads and install street lights to obtain the certificate of fitness so they could move in. The developer's whereabouts are unknown. Meanwhile, the bank that loaned money to the developer won a court order in 2006 to auction off the houses that had various problems such as leaks and infestations of termites. The JB High Court ruled that the houses were an abandoned project, although they had already been built. It also ordered the buyers to pay 10 per cent of the cost of their houses for their title deeds, on top of what they had already paid for the properties. Some of them were willing to pay at that time but others appealed. Yesterday, Judge Low Hop Bing said the 44 buyers would be allowed to get loans from banks to settle their payment as agreed in mediation. 'You will be proud that you own a house, rather than a small pigeon hole in another country,' he said.

Just now after dinner, I hear someone pressing my door bell. I went to take a look and a man introduce himself as a staff from the RC. Saying that Minister for XXX and also also MP for YYY GRC is paying house visit to residents and tell me to provide feedback to him if i had any. I am quite surprised coz I remember the last time got minister come talk to me personally and show concern is duno how many yrs back and shortly after, I am issued a coupon telling me to tick one of the box and drop into a metal box at a nearby primary sch on a particular date. Talk to him for awhile and close door. Then I realise yesterday when I came home from work ard 8PM, I saw several workers doing maintenance work on staircase, corridor doors, shifting of potted plants etc. I thot how come so siao on for the authorities to carry out work at night. And also several guys in office attire inspecting the corridor and surrounding area. Now I know why..

Recently I came to take notice of a house that seems to be abandoned - 297 Upper East Coast Road. It is of latest modern design, completely rebuilt, yet is in very bad condition with fallen leaves everywhere in its front yard. Never see anybody in the house at night for a long stretch already. I am sure it will find a lot of interested buyers if put in market due to its modern architectural outlook. Is anybody in the know willing to provide any information why it is in this state?

I head soo many stories about sons/daughter taking parents money to buy house and then kick parents out. aiyo, now my elder brother is trying the same thing. Below happen to my family, so just wanna share with all of you. My family of four, me, wife,2 kids (1 & 4 year old) stay in a 4 room flat. 1) My wife got goosebumps when watching tv alone at night for a couple of times, as if someone is sitting next to her. 2) Toilet flushing, door opening/closing sound were heard while I was bathing & my family are all sleep. 3) My 1 year old boy would wake up almost every night crying without any reasons. 4) My 4 year old daughter have small bruises all over her leg & back without any reasons. 5) Worst of all, I came face to face with the female ghost before & I also pee in my pants. 6) Me & my wife were having sleepless night & it affected both my family & work performance. I engage 1 fengshui master & tell him my problems. He assured me it's a small issue & he will perform some ritual at my house, ask me to buy some ornaments & all these costs a bomb. Even after he "cleanse" my house, the problems still occurs. I tried calling him numberous time but could not get him. When I finally got him, he told me that this ghost is too powerful & I need to book another session with him & this time round the charges are even more expensive. (I was quite pissed off by his irresponsible/money grabber action & decided not to engage him). Through my friend recommendation, he intro 1 female master whose shop is in a maket stall selling flowers & providing poker card / bazi analysis, house cleansing & more. I was thinking "how can a master be good when he/she is from a market stall selling flowers at the same time"? Neverthless, I went to her stall for consultation. Master Cheng did a poker card analysis for me & even before I told her my house problems. She just told me:" your house have a "ying" energy & the "thing" is disturbing your whole family right?. I was surprised she is so spot on & I am sure my friend did not tell her before hand because I only tell my friend the general situation whereby she could related most of the things in my family.She told me she will go to my house to communicate with the ghost 1st & promised to tried her very best to help. She told me some facts about herself, how she was born with "3rd eye" since she was young & she decided to go into this line because she wanna help more people & also her interest in fengshui. Appointment was made & she came to my house. She made some preparation & began to mediate to communicate with the ghost. After she awake from the mediation, she told me she manage to negotiate & pacify the ghost. She give me clear instructions to do some cleansing for the house : do some buddhist chanting day & night, go to one particular temple to pray & burn some things like clothings, hell money & make up kit for the ghost. I ask master why need make up kit, she reply me in a joking tone:" You seen her before & she is disfigured right"? I immediately knew that the master did really commuicate with the same ghost in my house because the ghost I have seen face to face is indeed disfigured. I followed her instructions & things return to normal. For the next few weeks, no more toilet flushing/door opening or closing sound, my baby boy did not wake up in the middle of the night, no more bruises at my daughter's leg or back, no more goosebumps & we could sleep well throughout the night. I am really grateful to this Master Cheng & I return to her stall to give her a big red packet as my way of appreciation. She is friendly, humble, patient, price reasonable & most importantly I can feel that she really wants to help me & my family. Her poker card analysis is really acurrate & she is able to see & answer the questions that I have for her. Hope my above encounter does not bored all of you out. Cheers

According to a report by Automotive News, the House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena to former Toyota lawyer Dimitrios Biller requiring him to submit secret documents to Congress in advance of a February 24 hearing about the Japanese automaker's unintended acceleration issues. Biller is required to submit the reported four 18-inch bank boxes of documents to Congress by February 23. Biller filed a federal racketeering suit against his former employer over the summer. Just one week ago Toyota won a temporary injunction against Biller barring the lawyer from releasing any of the secret documents. Biller's lawyer, Jeffrey Allen, says the congressional subpoena supersedes the injunction and that Biller intends to supply the documents by the February 23 deadline. Biller contends that Toyota destroyed multiple documents that could have implicated the automaker in SUV rollover cases. In late September, Texas Judge T. John Ward ordered Toyota not to destroy any crash informaton. Toyota is suing Biller for $33.5 million for divulging confidential information and Biller's lawyer contends that Toyota's ex-lawyer flew to Japan and tried for four days to get executives to air his concerns over the handling of the information. Biller was then reportedly asked to resign and given a severance. The February 24 House Oversight meeting has still more drama due to the fact that Toyota President Akio Toyoda will testify before the committee. Toyoda originally planned to leave the testifying to Yoshimi Inaba, president of Toyota's operations in North America. That changed when committee chairman Edolphus Towns (D-NY) sent a formal letter to the Toyota president requesting his presence. We're not sure how the alleged SUV rollover info is relevant to unintended acceleration, but the bigger picture may be that congress is looking into whether Toyota has a history of hiding evidence that could potentially paint the company in a bad light.
