  1. Official photos. Toyota's RAV4 platform-mate crossover for the premium compact SUV market. Debuts in Beijing, 20 April.
  2. is there any shops that does individual cells and not the whole bank? lexus charges 11k !
  3. Hi All, Just like to have an update from current and would be hybrid owners on how economical and reliable of hybrid cars these days. Seen many improvements from different makes, and would like feedback from those whom are driving or would be owner why consider a hybrid. Please I am not a tree hugger and appreciate posts that can provide cost of usage and fuel saving over time. CEV rebate is also not a consideration because as understand, OMV or parf gets affected by the end of 10 years, thus that segment is a no win to owners. (at least that's how I feel). Thanks
  4. just wanted to see if any green/hybrid car owners keen for a meetup??
  5. I hear a lot about hybrid car, especially those using batteries and petrol. I just hope those owners of such car can share here if these cars are really environmentally friendly and cost effective. Most importantly, they must be driving them for more than a year. (generally battery life is less than 3 years for normal car). For those who have driven such car for more than 3 years, a comparision of their operating cost will definitely help.
  6. is there a specific reason why there is no little interest in anyone buying a hybrid car thanks i am thinking of getting one next year but the fact there is so few interest around makes me worried
  7. Mercedes C350 plug-in hybrid review 12 12 Hybrid C-Class offers a compelling mix of power and fuel efficiency Fuel economy test conditions give plug-in hybrids an unfair advantage in the company car taxation game, but used in the right way, the Mercedes C 350 Plug-in can be very cheap to run. It delivers a sharp turn of pace, too, and excels at being a refined, luxurious cruiser. Just look closely at how you’re likely to use it. It’s £3,465 more expensive than a C 250 BlueTEC diesel, which will prove more economical if you plan on covering longer distances. Pure electric cars aside, plug-in hybrids are the most economical and tax-efficient vehicles money can buy. They’re still expensive next to petrol and diesel-powered alternatives, but with Mercedes planning to launch 10 by 2017, you can expect prices to tumble. So, it’s up to early adopters to take the plunge, but fortunately, much of the C 350 Plug-in will feel familiar. Based on the C-Class saloon, it’s pretty much a no-compromise vehicle, although under the skin, the space for the 100kg lithium-ion battery pack cuts boot capacity to 335 litres in the saloon and 350 litres in the Estate (from 480 and 490 respectively). Both versions are also fitted with air-suspension to cope with the demands of the extra 200kg that the entire system adds to the kerbweight. Image 2 of 12 Image 2 of 12 Climb inside, and it’s business as usual. Last year’s new C-Class was a big improvement on its predecessor, and the plug-in hybrid uses exactly the same materials, plus fit and finish is excellent. The cars will be supplied in Exclusive or Avantgarde trim, so they’re well up the C-Class pecking order, with the addition of an air-con system that will pre-heat or cool the car thanks to its independent electrical power. The only hint of the state-of-the-art plug-in drivetrain is a small eco meter in the bottom of the instrument binnacle and the energy flow screen on the central tablet. Image 8 of 12 Image 8 of 12 Under the skin, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine’s 208bhp is augmented by an 80bhp electric motor that sits between the main unit and the transmission and can be clutched in and out. Total system power is 275bhp with a mighty 600Nm of torque, which is enough to give this 1.75-tonne car a 155mph top speed and a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds. • Best hybrid cars on sale That’s highly respectable for a sports saloon (the new C 450 AMG Sport is only one second quicker), and when you want to save the planet in E-mode, the electric motor and batteries deliver a 19.2-mile range at speeds up to 80mph. Image 1 of 12 Image 1 of 12 There are two main driving modes for the C 350. Hybrid mixes electric-only driving with electric boosting (petrol and electric motors together) and brake energy recuperation to give maximum economy. E-mode uses battery power alone for a limited range, plus you can select E-save mode, where the electric charge is saved for later in the journey; there’s also Charge, in which the petrol engine drives the car and recharges the battery simultaneously. Put your foot down, and this big Mercedes sprints forward as the electric motor pushes its big torque into the system at very low revs. The charge tails off a bit at higher speeds, but this is still a swift saloon. The ride is slightly better than the standard C-Class’, although that extra 100kg in the tail makes the car bob over regular bumps, while changes of direction are a tad less immediate. Image 10 of 12 Image 10 of 12 The drive systems offer a choice of Economy, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, which do pretty much what their names suggest. In Economy, the car will disengage the drivetrain and coast when conditions allow. The stiff suspension of Sport+ is a bit too much, though, so we preferred Comfort mode. Brake energy recuperation is most noticeable in the two sport modes, where the initial regeneration braking isn’t particularly well blended with the actual friction from pads on discs. Again, Comfort is the best setting for braking, as it’s more linear and the pedal feels more progressive, although at about 4mph, where the regeneration braking switches, it becomes jerky again. Key specs Price: £37,820 Engine: 2.0-litre 4cyl turbo plus electric motor, 275bhp Transmission: Seven-speed auto, rear-wheel drive 0-62mph/top speed: 5.9 secs/155mph Economy/CO2: 134.5mpg/48g/km On sale: May
  8. The design looks damn solid.... Hope it makes production. ---------------------------------------------------------- Honda revives the CRX's spirit with a small hybrid concept ---------------------------------------------------------- In early February, it was reported that Honda was working on a small sports car to take some of the "green" spotlight that has been hogged by the Toyota Prius since 2000. Honda later unveiled the vehicle as the Small Hybrid Sports Concept (SHSC) in March. The radical-looking concept was powered by an efficient 4-cylinder engine, Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system and paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The SHSC's powertrain was rather conventional, but its design was a bit too far reaching to be taken seriously as a production model. Honda is at again and today showcased a new small hybrid sports car in the form of the CR-Z. The CR-Z recalls the lightweight CRX hatchback and features more production-worthy styling than the SHSC. Honda simply describes the CR-Z as a "design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car," and notes that the powertrain is a carryover from the Honda Civic Hybrid. Given the compact dimensions (and hopefully light weight) of the CR-Z, its fuel economy could end up being even greater than that of the Civic Hybrid which is rated at 40 MPG/45 MPG city/highway. If the CR-Z were to reach production, it would join Honda's Global Small Hybrid (GSH) which is due to arrive in 2009 with a $22,000 price tag. The GSH will be a five-seater with unique styling to tackle the ubiquitous Prius.
  9. Hi, Yesterday I got a chance to sit in Toyota hybrid Prius and im surprise by its spaciousness and the quietness and smoothness of this 3 yr old taxi given that the cab travelled everyday. I need more info of hybrid car and Maintenance especially this model. 1) cost of changing the batteries 2) lifespan of the batteries 3) reliability of this model 4) any other alternative to look out for (preferably with huge boot - hatchback) 5) beside power, what are the pros and cons? 6) any other info to share?
  10. Hi, I am considering to buy used Hybrid and chanced upon a used 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid 1.3A I started to read into this forum and want to get a feel of technical/common issues (if there are) typical of Honda Hybrid. It seems that the unstability or depletion of hybrid battery is quite common. The dealer told me that a replacement battery is between 1.5 - 2 thousand (cant check with Kah Motor over weekend). Any brothers/sisters drive hybrids over here in this forum? Can advise if the hybrid batteries is a bugging issue (and any other things that i should watch out for)? I plan to buy this for my wife, and wanted some hassle-free and good FC car. Thanks for your help.

  12. Japanese auto giant Toyota said Wednesday it was recalling 1.9 million of its Prius hybrid cars around the world because of a fault that might cause the vehicle to slow down suddenly. PHOTOS File photo: A customer looks at Toyota Motor's hybrid vehicle "Prius" at a showroom in Tokyo, Japan. (AFP/Yoshikazu Tsuno) ENLARGE CAPTION TOKYO: Japanese auto giant Toyota said Wednesday it was recalling 1.9 million of its Prius hybrid cars around the world because of a fault that might cause the vehicle to slow down suddenly. The company said there was a problem with software used to control a power converter. "In limited cases, the hybrid system might shut down and the vehicle will stop, perhaps while being driven," it said in a statement. The world's biggest automaker added that the most likely scenario is that the defect could set off a vehicle's warning lights and "probably" cause it to enter "failsafe mode", in which the car can still be driven but with reduced power. "The car may stop while driving, but not suddenly," said a Tokyo-based company spokeswoman. "It would slow down, eventually to stop." Toyota was aware of more than 400 cases of the problem, including 300 in Japan and 90 in North America, she said, adding that no accidents had been reported due to the defect. Toyota and other Japanese automakers have been hit by a series of mass recalls in recent years that damaged their long-held reputation for quality and safety. - AFP/xq
  13. When people said Porsche’s new hybrid supercar was hot, well. . . they weren’t kidding. Watch as this state of the art hybrid sports car, ironically, burns to the ground at a gas station in Toronto, Canada. The mid-engined 887 hp supercar is capable of hitting 214 mph and can also achieve Prius-like fuel economy. The asking price for one of these ultra-rare supercars (just 918 will be made) is an astonishing $845,000. Earlier this year Porsche recalled every single one of its GT3 sports car to replace the engine after several reports of engine fires.

  16. Bentley is envisioning a powerful and even more efficient future with the Bentley Hybrid Concept – a technology showcase that previews Bentley’s first plug-in hybrid model, set to be a dedicated version of the all-new SUV available in 2017. The Bentley Hybrid Concept will be on display at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on Sunday 20th April. As the first luxury brand to present a plug-in hybrid, Bentley leads the way in bringing new powertrain choice to the luxury automotive sector. Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, comments: “There is no doubt that plug-in hybrid technology is true to Bentley’s values of outstanding luxury and effortless performance. We are proud to be pioneering these developments in the luxury sector.” The Bentley Plug-in Hybrid System Through Bentley’s hybrid system, customers will have a wider choice of modern, powerful and efficient powertrains. The plug-in hybrid system will offer a power increase of up to 25% together with a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions, both without any compromise to the exquisite luxury, timeless design and industry-leading refinement for which Bentley has become renowned. Bentley hybrids will also be capable of driving at least 50 km on electric power alone, allowing for emissions-free city driving with the option of enhanced performance on the open road. The Bentley Hybrid Concept The Bentley Hybrid Concept is based on the flagship model in the Bentley family, the Mulsanne, to show that hybrid technology enhances even the pinnacle of luxury and performance. Copper is used as an exterior and interior styling element to highlight the car’s electrical veins, including copper details to the headlamps, radiator shell bezel, brake calipers, feature line details and badges. Copper accents continue in the cabin, with inserts to the hand-crafted veneers fascias, switch bezels and instruments. Copper cross‑stitching to the Mulliner Driving Specification diamond-quilted interior provides the finishing flourish.
  17. Back in 2011, Porsche announced that it will return to contest at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014. Fast forward three years, and here we have the full details of the race car that is going to shoulder the marque's return to top tier endurance racing. The objective was clear for Porsche: to return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and attempt at an overall win once more, like what it did in the years before. Audi is closing in with 12 wins, and has already beaten the Stuttgart marque in terms of hit rate (Audi claimed 12 victories in just 14 ventures). And with a 16-year absence at the top tier fight at the Le Mans, it is high time for Porsche to make a comeback. Just a few days back, Porsche finally unveiled its contender at the Geneva Motor Show. The 919 Hybrid. It has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that revs to 9,000rpm, coupled with a hybrid powerpack that harnesses energy from two sources. The first is a 'convention' electric system that converts kinetic energy to electric energy during braking. The second recovers thermal energy from exhaust gases, which uses an electric generator powered by the exhaust gas stream. Of course, the 919s aren't alone on the field. Porsche will also send its latest RSR racer, based on the 991 gen 911, to the race track. Together, the 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR will contest in not just Le Mans, but also the 2014 season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 911 RSR has already scored a few medals under its belt. On its debut at Le Mans last year, the RSR scored a 1-2 win in the GT Class. 2014 has also started on a high for the RSR, claiming top honours in its class in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The 2014 season of WEC will begin at Silverstone in Great Britain on 20th April. The season's highlight, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will follow in June.
  18. Walmart revealed earlier Sunday afternoon (Feb 17, 2014) its WAVE Concept semi trailer. WAVE stands for Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience and introduces the concept of a fuel efficient next generation semi-trailer that may in fact power the flow of goods and services for Walmart products and possibly the rest of the United States flow of commerce. The WAVE concept is the latest of Walmart fleet efficiency program. With over 7000 trucks, Walmart's fleet of vehicles provides a large opportunity to increase fuel efficiency across the board and set an example for the rest of the big box stores. First of all, the Wave concept truck has an advanced, one of a kind, set of aerodynamics that sets it apart from any semi-trailer on the road today. With its hybrid powertrain entirely underneath the cab, the front end design isn't dictated by a large internal combustion engine. The cab itself sits atop its powertrain and offers a sleek wind tunnel designed front drivers window that offers a commanding view of the road. The entire cab is tapered to blend into the trailer itself, which at fifty-three feet long, is entirely made out of carbon fibre paneling (an industry first). All this carbon fibre saves around two whole tons, which can go towards hauling more goods and services. Powering this technological tour-de-force is a Capstone Turbine engine coupled to an electrical powertrain. Capstone Turbines is a California based gas turbine manufacturer that specializes in microturbine power along with heating and cooling cogeneration systems. Key to the Capstone design is its use of foil bearings, which provides maintenance and fluid-free operation for the lifetime of the turbine and reduces the system to a single moving part. This also eliminates the need for any cooling or other secondary systems.Their light weight, small size, and quick starting time make them ideal as "instant-on" backup power to recharge the main batteries. An example of a hybrid vehicle is the Capstone CTM-380, with a 30 kW gas turbine generator running on diesel, that recharges Li-Poly batteries when necessary. The CMT-380 has a proposed range of 80 miles on battery alone, but when combined with the micro turbine that range is pushed to over 500+ miles. With just a video announcement being the first the public has heard about this project, we’re all ears as to what Wal-Mart will do with such a revolutionary design. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvt7ptICxSY
  19. Plug-in hybrids are gaining in popularity, with Ford, Toyota and Honda all offering vehicles fitted with the unique powertrains. But while cars like the Fusion Energi, Prius Plug-In and Accord Plug-In boast excellent economy numbers as they match the best assets of electric vehicles with traditional hybrids, they lack the zest and fun that some drivers crave. According to rumors from the UK, though, a fun plug-in could be on the horizon. Hoping to capitalize on the performance reputation of the GTI, Volkswagen is reportedly developing a car called the Golf GTE. Power would come from the same powertrain slated for the Audi A3 E-Tron, a 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with 148 horsepower. Mated to that is a 107-horsepower electric motor, which draws power from an 8.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. A 6-speed, dual-clutch transmission would shift 204 total system horsepower to the front wheels, which will allow the GTE to hit 62 miles per hour in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 135 mph. Outside of the unique powertrain, we'd expect the GTE to follow the same formula used for the diesel-powered Golf GTD - that means GTI-sourced bits for the suspension and brakes, as well as sportier interior and exterior treatments. It is unclear if this model will make it to Singapore market, but even if it does, we can only expect this model somewhere in late 2015.
  20. Ford announced plans Thursday for a prototype hybrid car that uses solar energy from a rooftop charger, reducing gas use and avoiding the need for plugging into the electric grid. The US auto giant said its C-MAX Solar Energi concept car with a solar panel roof draws power from a special solar concentrator lens similar to a magnifying glass. The vehicle, which will be on display at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week, is estimated to reduce the annual greenhouse gas emissions a typical car owner would produce by four metric tons. The new system aims to rev up sales of electic and hybrid vehicles without the plug-in requirement of some current models. Ford said the system tracks the sun as it moves from east to west, drawing enough power from the solar rays each day to equal a four-hour battery charge. Ford said this car would deliver an estimated 100 miles (160 kilometers) per gallon (3.8 liters) of gasoline. "Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Concept shines a new light on electric transportation and renewable energy," said Mike Tinskey, Ford global director of vehicle electrification and infrastructure. "As an innovation leader, we want to further the public dialogue about the art of the possible in moving the world toward a cleaner future." The car is a collaborative project of Ford, California-based SunPower Corp. and the Georgia Institute of Technology. 21. When the 2013 BMW i8 was released at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2013, it was always assured to be a hit partly because of the drawn-out development of the car which first appeared as a concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show building interest. Now, BMW has officially confirmed that the 2014 BMW i8 has been sold out for the 2014 model year. Unfortunately, no sales figures for the BMW i8 were released, but selling an entire year’s allocation in just a few months is quite impressive. The BMW i8is priced from €126,000 in Germany, while in the UK it has a base price of £99,125. In the United States, BMW will offer the i8 from US$135,700. There are nearly 10,000 orders for the i3 electric car, for which deliveries started in mid-November in Germany. The BMW i3 will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the second quarter of 2014. As a reminder, the BMW i8 features a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.5-litre three-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol engine developing 228bhp and 320Nm of torque that drives the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox and a synchronous electric motor developing 129bhp and 250Nm of torque that turns the front wheels via a two-stage automatic transmission. There’s also a 5 kWh lithium-ion high-voltage battery with liquid cooling. The car’s combined system output of 357bhp and 570Nm allows it to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250km/h. Average fuel economy is estimated at 2.5L/100 km - obviously, including the use of the battery.
  22. From its previous generation to the recently launched one, the Honda Accord has been a generally well-liked family sedan. So to add on a bit of spice, I've decided to see whether there are any nice tuning bits for this handsome car. Mugen has already done some cool packages for the Accord. Eagle-eyed readers will notice that this is actually the Accord Hybrid, which has not arrived on our shores yet but it seems to me that most of the styling changes can be retrofitted onto the normal Accord too. On the outside, Mugen has given it more presence with a new set of front, side and rear skirts. There are carbon front grill and carbon boot lid spoiler as well. You can also opt for their new 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels to improve on the handling side of the already well-balanced sedan. Other than the above mentioned, those who already have the car should go and get a set of coilover to complete the stance look!
  23. http://dai.ly/x14jt3d Porsche recently showcased its 918 Spyder at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is all common for auto makers to showcase their latest products at one of the globe's biggest and most awaited car shows, much less for a halo car. But the people from Stuttgart did more than that. While a team was preparing the final production version of the 918 for its world premiere at Frankfurt, another brought it out for a spin at the Nurburgring. The result was a record-breaking 6:57. That puts the Porsche right behind the barely legal Radical SR8, overtaking the Dodge Viper ACR (7:12), which held the fastest street going production car record for two years. Now jump to the video to catch a glimpse of the 918 in action.
