  1. Anyone remember these cartoons? Dun think they have been made into movies. Closest is He Man but why no She Ra :p
  2. Riding on the success of its first hot hatch, Hyundai seems like it is working on a lighter and faster version of its i30 N. Could the car spied here be AWD variant too? As reported by Carscoops, the car shot at the Green Hell features parts you won’t find on the standard i30 N. Check out the new simple-spoked wheels, new lip spoiler and the new side skirts which have been fitted. Also the rear has been fitted with new bumpers and diffusers. While details are sketchy for now, it is stated in the article that the lightened Hyundai i30 N won’t have any more power than the standard model but that isn't really an issue as we have driven one and power isn't something it needs urgently. That said, the company might also be working on a version with more power and has admitted to an all-wheel drive drivetrain for the car and could add slightly more power to it. There is also news that a dual-clutch variant of the i30 N will soon be released.
  3. Hello everyone, I am starting a AMA thread just for discussion purposes.Possibly to help answer some comparison questions between cars I have driven before, from my individual perspective. (Not a show-off thread - as I am not financially strong enough to own a car). A bit of background, I been a seasoned driver, been driving regularly for the past decade. I have never owned a car before, but I am blessed to have the opportunities to drive my friends and relatives' cars on a regular basis, or sometimes. I also took some time off to test drive some sedans recently as I am contemplating on getting one. So far, I have driven the following models regularly before: Kia Cerato Forte SX 1.6L 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6L Toyota Wish AE10 1.8L Toyota Camry Prestige XV40 2.0L BMW 216i Gran Tourer Diesel-powered BMW 316i F30 BMW 520i E60 XL BMW 523i F30 Audi Q5 8R 2.0T 2019 Mazda 6 2.0L Standard 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.0L Premium I have already managed to clock limited miles on the following cars: 2019 Kia Cerato Forte SX Honda Civic 10-Gen 1.6NA Hyundai Avante S 2019 Mazda 3 HB 1.5L Premium Volvo S90 Happy to answer any questions with respect to interior, exterior, performance and feel of these cars. Cheers.
  4. JD Power Says Korean Cars Beat US and Europe in Quality! Sources: https://www.wired.com/story/jd-power-korean-cars-beat-us-europe-quality/ Ask the average car buyer who makes the most reliable vehicles, and they’ll likely start with Japanese automakers, followed by the Germans and the Americans, and ending with the Koreans. Going by the results of this year’s JD Power Initial Quality Survey, though, that’s all wrong. “It’s almost the complete reverse,” says Dave Sargent, who oversees Power's vehicle quality research. The change in fortunes rides largely on how automakers have handled two big technological trends: proliferating infotainment screens and advanced driver assistance features. The ranking, based on the number of problems owners of new vehicles report in the first three months, puts Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, in the number one spot, with 63 problems per 100 vehicles. Kia and Hyundai are right behind, making for an all-Korean top three. The next three slots go to the Americans—Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet—with Lexus and Toyota after them. All these brands score better than the industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles. Below that bar, you’ll find the Europeans, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and Volkswagen. In the bottom two spots are Land Rover and Jaguar. A spokesman for those two brands, both owned by India’s Tata Motors, said that the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has reduced complaints around infotainment issues, and that it's working to improve those scores. A Mercedes-Benz representative notes that this JD Power survey "doesn’t reflect the total ownership experience," but that it's helpful for "finetuning" its work. The results don’t surprise Sargent. “This is not a one-year phenomenon,” he says. The Korean automakers have consistently improved their cars’ quality in recent years, especially around the infotainment systems that offer a combination of navigation, music, and voice calling features. The Korean manufacturers offer relatively simple systems that do the basics well, even if they skimp on next-generation ideas like gesture controls. That matches Consumer Reports’ most recent infotainment system ranking, which listed Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia among its favorites. It gave the top score to Tesla, which JD Power doesn’t include in its rankings, due to a lack of data. The “problems” that consumers report tend to fall into two buckets. Some are defects that affect individual cars, like a headlamp that goes out. Others are related to the design of a vehicle, like a hard-to-use voice recognition system for doing things like placing calls and set navigation destinations. Today’s cars have far fewer defects than their predecessors did a decade ago, Sargent says, and mass manufacturers match the luxury brands on that count. So drivers are more focused on the things that bug them about their vehicles. That exposes the luxury automakers to criticism, Sargent says, because they offer more features that may not work perfectly or be easy to understand. This year’s survey found a small increase in what Sargent calls “traditional problems” like bad paint jobs and brake and suspension noises. That may be because, as car sales have slowed, vehicles are spending more time in the elements before going home with a customer—an effect known as “lot rot.” While infotainment systems are responsible for more problems than any other category, they’re also where automakers made the biggest overall improvement since 2018. Industry-wide, the survey says, the systems are getting less glitchy and easier to use. The new bad boy looks to be driver assistance systems, which for JD Power includes things like basic cruise control, lane departure warnings, and “semiautonomous” systems like Cadillac Super Cruise. As these features become more prevalent, more consumers are having trouble understanding how they work, or criticizing when they do and don’t intervene. And yes, studies show that drivers in the US and Europe often overestimate what their “semiautonomous” cars can do—setting them up for disappointment. Overall, Sargent says, the encouraging thing is just how reliable new cars are these days. The 2019 industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles represents a 14 percent drop over the 2009 figure. Volvo, he notes, is in 28th place, out of 32. “I drive a Volvo,” he says. “I love it.”

  8. 2019 Genesis G90 Spotted With Minimal Disguise, Superman-Like Grillehttps://www.carscoops.com/2018/11/2019-genesis-g90-spotted-minimal-disguise-superman-like-grille/ The 2019 Genesis G90 will be unveiled shortly, but several lightly camouflaged prototypes have surfaced online. While it’s hard to pin down their origin, the images reveal the redesigned flagship will adopt a more distinctive front end which features a prominent crest grille that is similar to the one used on the Essentia and GV80 concepts. The grille is flanked by new G-Matrix headlights which have slim LED daytime running lights in the middle of them. Further below, we can see a modified front bumper which features restyled air intakes. Moving further back, the car appears to adopt a new front fender vents with feature integrated turn signals. Details are hard to make out, but they appear similar those seen in sketches which surfaced last week. Further changes can be seen at the rear as the license plate area has been moved from the trunk to the bumper. This freed up designers to install new taillights which are connected by a slender light strip. Other notable changes include a new rear spoiler and restyled exhaust tips which mimic the design of the crest grille. The single interior image doesn’t reveal any drastic changes, but Genesis has already confirmed the model will have an updated 12.3-inch infotainment system which has an improved interface, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility as well as the ability to receive over-the-air updates. The infotainment system will also have a mobile SMS function which can display text messages, read them aloud and then send basic replies. Speaking of technology, the 2019 G90 will have an adaptive suspension and an active noise control system which cancels out unpleasant sounds. The car will also have an assortment of driver assistance systems including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist and Safe Exit Assist. The facelifted G90 will be unveiled on November 27th and South Korean customers will have a choice of three different engines including a 3.8-liter V6, a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8.
  9. According to Cars Guide, Hyundai is actively developing an all-wheel drive version of the i30 N hot hatch. As confirmed by Hyundai Australia public relations manager Guido Schenken, the brand had already planned for an all-wheel drive version of the hot hatch once the car was given the green light for production. Adding on, the head of Hyundai N Albert Biermann, has previously said that all-wheel drive was likely to prove to be a future focus for the manufacturer. That said, it is not clear when an all-wheel drive Hyundai i30 N model would go on sale nor do we know the all-wheel drive drivetrain will be seen in this generation of the i30 N or future ones. With an all-wheel drive system, Hyundai would be able to give its hot hatch more power with the additional traction, thereby allowing the i30 N to do battle with the hatches like the 345bhp Ford Focus RS.
  10. 2 weeks old Hyundai Elantra. Scratch to a pole when I make a reverse turn on a narrow road. Left side tail light cover crack, but all lights function well. My own car. Any suggestions? I only treat it as a transportation for my family. So do not want to spend much on repairing it. 1. Bring back to Komoco. But I do not think warranty will cover any. 2. Claim insurance. Excess 600. Maybe I just pay repairing cost and next year premium increase. 3. Outside workshop. Not sure what the cost for the light cover. 4. Use glue or tape to fix it by myself. To me the looking is not an issue. Wait next time go JB or has other issues repair together. Any ideas. Please help. Thanks.

  15. Here is a sneak peek at Hyundai's latest and smallest crossover model, the Venue. The car is set to debut at the New York Auto Show soon. Seen on Carscoops, the new Hyundai was thought to a special model marketed for Asean markets but is now believed to be available for Europe and U.S. markets too. Looking similar to the Santa Fe, the car spots a 'Turbo' logo at the back suggesting that it might be using the 1.0 turbo three from the Kona. It is expected to be paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The new Venue is supposed to be position under the Kona as brand’s smallest crossover and will likely be available in front-wheel drive guise only.

  17. Just realised that it's really worth getting or converting to OPC. 1) Reduced initial investment 2) Lowered Taxes 3) Cheaper Insurance 4) Deferred Day Licensing - upto 23.59 next day to purchase license via various media 5) Even if you forget its ok you have 5 working days to do "self-declaration" Of which all could be redundant since there isn't any concrete control in place to truly catch you using without paying the license...u dun say...people dun tell on you....practically won't ever get caught... "Everyone does it...." Seen so many OPC in use everyday outside the licensing hours...dun think these people pay license everyday else would cost more than regular cars what's the point. So...until a concrete control mechanism in place...we should take the opportunity...!

  19. Hi bros, My current stock set up comprises a locally fitted WinCE headunit and stock component speakers at all 4 doors - the sound quality is really sub-par and I'm looking to upgrade. With a budget of around $1k, would you guys advise to change to a better HU like Z7250BT/Halo9, etc. (my car doesn't have the usual DIN slots) or change the front set of speakers and add an under-seat sub-woofer? Thanks in advance!
  20. Here's a sneak preview of the new eighth-generation Hyundai Sonata photographed in South Korea. As seen on Carscoops, the new Sonata is expected be the same car as the successor for the European i40 sedan. Not much else is known about car other than rumors that the new Sonata could get a N variant. It sounds unlikely but a N Line model with a more aggressive bodykit and chassis upgrades could be a possibility. The car is estimated to hit the South Korean market in the coming weeks.

  25. I have a question. It seems the auto top-up works OK if I pass through an ERP when the card value is low. But when I tried to exit a car park gantry, the card doesn't auto top-up and I was stuck up having to swap to a standard cashcard before I can exit. Any idea why? It happened twice so far. Once was at Tanjong Pagar Centre and another at a standard HDB exit gantry. Both have those scan and go type, no need to manual insert. If anybody uses this have some idea what's going on, I would appreciate it if you tell me. Thanks.
