  1. If COE for 1.6L or below cross $30k or even $40k, will our taxi company raise their rental fee? Then in order to maintain the income of taxi folks, taxi fare will be adjusted up? Or, old taxi got deregistered. But new COE too expensive for new taxi. So, the taxi population will decrease? Tourists complain cannot get taxi? Hmmm... Not easy to work in LTA.
  2. Can any one advise as resale price is a old coe , how can price increase affect resale car price.
  3. Cost of Youth Games goes up three-fold An extra $265 million needed to meet the cost will be borne by MCYS and Ministry of Finance SINGAPORE - The cost of organising the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games has risen three-fold. With 38 days left to the opening ceremony at The Float@Marina Bay on Aug 14, it will now cost $387 million to stage the Games, up from its original estimate of $122 million during the Games' bid phase, before Singapore was named host by the International Olympic Committee in February 2008 after a keen tussle with Moscow. Despite the increase, both the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (Syogoc) said there was no cause for alarm. The extra $265 million required to meet the cost of organising the Games will be borne by the MCYS and Ministry of Finance. Syogoc has also raised more than $50 million in sponsorship, but MediaCorp understands the bulk of it is in kind. Speaking at a news conference yesterday, MCYS Permanent Secretary Niam Chiang Meng said: "The original bid was an estimate. There was no precedent or template ... When we made the bid, the figures were based on specifications not fully spelt out by the International Olympic Committee or by the international federations. "It was only very recently that the sporting events had their formats spelt out ... which is why many of these things can only be finalised so late." Technology accounted for the biggest spike - $97 million (see box). Added Mr Niam: "The estimate is not fixed, although it is likely to be lower than higher." The Youth Olympic Games, which run from Aug 14 to 26, will feature 201 events across 26 sports, with some 3,600 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing. About 20,000 volunteers will help run the Games, and about 370,000 spectators are expected to watch the two-week event. Apart from having top sporting facilities, there are other spin-offs. On the economic front, $260 million worth of tenders and contracts were awarded to local companies for the Games, and some $46 million to international companies with local subsidiaries, while conservative estimates from the Singapore Tourism Board expect tourism receipts to hit $57 million. In terms of international media value, the Games is expected to be worth $86 million - $11 million from print and online, and $75 million from broadcast, where some 1.5 billion viewers worldwide are expected to watch the Games. Already, nearly 2,000 international media networks are keen to broadcast the multi-sports events. Socially, an Olympic education programme will be introduced to 430 schools, while some 260 community-led events involving 135,000 people will be held. Said Mr Niam: "We're making history as the first hosts, but at the same time, we're also the first to have to iron out the kinks in the system

  7. I was watching a particular car selling for $88,000 many months ago and still not able to sell. COE increased and his price went up to $95,000. I think this used car dealer either not hard up for business or he is doing extremely well. Whenever news interview the car association spokesman, he looked very sad and urge garment to loosen the loan regulation. When COE is low, he talked very confidently and keep urging the public to buy cars before the COE go beyond the $50,000 mark. Never did he predict garment to tighten on the loan. My family affected by the regulations but come to think of it, it is good for everyone in the long run.

  9. Conservancy workers at the 15 PAP Town Councils will soon be able to earn more under a progressive wage model salary structure. Under the new salary structure, the salary of cleaners will start from S$1,200 a month, up from an average of S$1,000 currently. PHOTOS VIDEOS A town council conservancy worker (file photo) Enlarge Caption SINGAPORE: Conservancy workers at the 15 PAP Town Councils will soon be able to earn more under a progressive wage model salary structure. Under the new salary structure, the salary of cleaners will start from S$1,200 a month, up from an average of S$1,000 currently. However, residents may have to pay more for service and conservancy charges. Coordinating chairman of the PAP Town Councils, Dr Teo Ho Pin, said: "Definitely, when we improve our services to better serve our residents, the cost of maintenance will increase. So, at some point in time we will need to revise the S&C charges. "But I think our residents understand that quality comes with a price. We want to do this to achieve a few objectives. First, is that we would like to better serve our residents -- so that we can enhance the conservancy standards in all our housing estates, in all the 15 PAP Town Councils. "Secondly, we want to support the government's effort to increase the salary of the low-wage workers and also to protect the employment benefits of the low-wage workers." The PAP Town Councils signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 19 conservancy contractors to pay them according to the recommended salary. As the worker upgrades to be a supervisor, he can earn S$1,600 and above. However, even with the higher salaries, companies said attracting workers is still a challenge. Dennis Tan, general manager of LS 2 Services, said: "To be honest, estate cleaning... it's a harsh environment. It requires block sweeping, outdoor sweeping. So, I think we still face challenges. "But with the implementation of progressive wage, we hope that more workers will join our cleaning industry. With more training and improvement of productivity, I hope this industry can be professionalised." - CNA/ac
  10. Seems like even taking taxis now got choosiness......and those who can pay, will...leading to again, Elitism SINGAPORE: Taxi drivers and passengers say they are in a difficult spot because of uncertainty caused by staggered announcements on taxi fare revisions. This comes after SMRT Taxis said on Monday it was following competitor ComfortDelGro's revised rates. ComfortDelGro's rates took effect on Monday, while rates for SMRT Taxis will start on December 20. Other taxi operators say they are reviewing the situation. When it comes to taxi fare hikes, it's clearly not a case of one-for-all, and all-for-one. Different charges by taxi companies mean some customers are cherry-picking their rides. Rajamanickam, Driver of SMRT Taxis, said: "I was queuing up one early morning around 6.15. There were two taxis in front which raised the price yesterday and my taxi was the third one. The passengers refused to take the first taxi. They come to my taxi and I told them, "Can you please take the front one, because I cannot cut the queue?" They said, "I'll wait for you!" They waited for me (in the queue) and ... took my taxi. What does that show? They are against the price increase." That may be true for some, but not for all. One lady passenger said: "Sometimes when people is in a rush right, then they got no choice but they got to pay the additional (fare). Considering now like the economy is not doing so well, so I think it's quite unnecessary." Another lady passenger said: "If we really need a taxi, we don't mind about the fare." One grouse raised was how the fare revisions have been announced. Rajamanickam added that it would be better if all taxi companies announce the fare revision together. Then it would be fair for all, including the passengers. Taxi drivers said it is still early to say what impact the changes will have on their earnings. - CNA/de

  12. Greetings to all Impreza Drivers and Lovers of AWD. I will first start by sharing my tips to increase FC for my new car. Currently my Impreza 1.6i MT is still under RUN in less than 1600 km The Run in Engine Oil is very thick , thickest compare to Mineral oil and Full Syn oil I have acheived 12-13.5km /litre of petrol with lot of careful driving. TIPS 1) I have installed EZ-stab EXTreme. I have just Spend $620 on this Extreme. Very worth it It aids in Power and Fuel Efficiency 2) I always change gear @ 1500 - 1700 rpm. I entered 5th Gear @ 60km/hr speed. 3) I always set my gear to NEUTRAL during down slope, enter 5th Gear and slowly release clutch when I am about to reach flat road. I do that everyday on CTE. 4) When I saw red light at a distance, I will set Neutral and let it cruise. I dare to do this because it is AWD. Very Stable. Not afraid it will skid or anything. AWD is the best. 5) Check and pump to the correct tyre pressure every alternate days. I am hoping to bring this Impreza to 15km/litre. I am in constant process to search for good products and tips to improve on FC. anyway the petrol price have increased. Since I have bought subaru cars, i do not think i will switch brand. I am aiming for a SUBARU Legacy for my next car. I hope all the GURU out there in MCF will contribute on the tips of BEtter FC. I will humbly accept advices. Cheers GIMMY
  13. Gantries at ECP to charge $6 during 8.30am slot Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates are set to go up by $1 or 50 cents during certain time periods at seven gantries. The new rates, which kick in from Aug 5, will affect the Central Expressway (CTE) and the East Coast Parkway Expressway (ECP). Rates on the two ECP gantries will go up by $1 to $6 between 8.30am and 9am, said the Land Transport Authority in a statement on Monday. There are four affected gantries on the southbound CTE (towards the city) after Braddell Road and on the Pan-Island Expressway slip road into the southbound CTE. There is currently no surcharge from 7am to 7.30am, and it costs $4 from 7.30am to 8am. The revised rates will mean a $1 surcharge from 7am to 7.30am, and a increase to $5 from 7.30am to 8am. On the northbound CTE, rates will increase by 50 cents to $1 from 5.30pm to 6pm, and from $1 to $2 from 6pm to 6.30pm. The next rate review will be in November.
  14. Manpower costs the main reason for increase in food price? Really ?. http://www.soshiok.com/multimedia/photos/1999 I would think it's the increase in rent. Why no labour cost ? Due to inflation, everyone deserved a higher salary because of higher cost of living. So it natural to expect labour cost to increase in proportion of inflation. However, why does malls/food stall has their rent increase more than inflation by so much over the years... Actually, every increase in profit didnt not go the owner or those that labor.. But went to the fat bonus of the landlords.. Why is these scholars so blind not to see the real cause of the problem?

  17. from CNA : Demand for foreign manpower expected to increase in 2030 Posted: 12 November 2012 1037 hrs SINGAPORE: The demand for foreign manpower is projected to increase for the healthcare sector, construction sector and foreign domestic labour sector in 2030. This is the projection by the National Population and Talent Division (NPTD) in an Occasional Paper released on Monday. NPTD said the projections are not targets but illustrate the growth and change in demand for workers in these sectors based on certain assumptions drawn from the country's demographic and demand trends. For example, with Singapore's ageing population, there will be fewer young people for each elderly person. The ageing population would require more healthcare services. The demand for healthcare workers is expected to grow from 50,000 in 2011 to 91,000 in 2030. NPTD said of this total, 28,000 are projected to be foreign healthcare workers, up from 13,000 in 2011. The demand for foreign domestic workers (FDWs) could rise from 198,000 in 2011 to 300,000 by 2030. This is due to the expected rise in the number of resident households with young and/or elderly persons and the number of households where both spouses are working. The demand for construction workers is expected to remain strong, from 250,000 in 2011 to about 280,000 in the next two to three years. NPTD said this is due to the increased construction workload as the government ramps up infrastructure development, such as expanding the rail network, launching more Build-To-Order housing projects, and building more nursing homes and hospitals to cater to the ageing population. With projected improvements in productivity in the construction sector, NPTD said demand for construction work permit holders should be between 250,000 and 300,000 by 2030. - CNA/xq That's only for nursing and constructions...... So with industries, cleaners, service sectors (counter staff, operators, waitress, salesgirls ...etc.) and maintenance companies, the figure cold reach millions of FW in SG competing with our children (decline birthrates)...... Even if jobs at 'fast food' outlet will be mended by FW, where do our children or when older Singaporean stand against the influx of FW. Currently, Gov trying to induce 'silver' hair to come out of retirement to work at service sectors and with the housing prices keep rising, how to survive in 2030?
