  2. Sharing a funny clip http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504784_162-200...5-10391705.html (CBS) - Some people have very expressive faces. Take for instance the passenger in this video showing a test drive of a Jaguar XKR. Beyond it being obvious that he has probably never done a test drive in high-performance and powerful car, I think it's also safe to assume he is terrified and wants the drive to end. The hilarity kicks in at about 30 seconds into the clip. The video appears to originate from Russia, and I would actually recommend watching it a second time to see just how cool and calm the driver is during the video (especially in comparison to the passenger). He's obviously driven a Jaguar XKR at least a few times in his life. A hilarious video that's bound to get a laugh or two out of you in watching. 3. Jag's were never really associated by the masses to have great looking car. Classic looking car's yes, with the exception of the S- and X-Type of course. But never great looking cars. Then the XF came along and it blew everyone's minds away. Those curves on the outside and more important the magic show on the inside mesmerized anyone who sat in it, reinventing the brand overnight with a whole new brand identity. Then, bored at work they decided to cramp a tame V8 under the bonnet and called it the XF-R. That frightened enough people to see a few of them running around on our little island. They gave the same treatment to the aging XK coupe as well, calling it the XKR. Now though, they've taken it a step further and not knowing how else to differentiate it, they've called it the XKR (wait for it), -S. Seems like an afterthought but watch the video and feel your pulse quicken. You've never heard and seen such a beast from Jag since the XJ220 in 1992. In its shade of electric blue set on some very pretty gunmetal rims, you know you
  4. While everyone gets a bit worked up complaining that Aston Martin seems to have rehashed the DB9/DBS chassis into the Virage, Jaguar has come up with a souped up version of the XK coupe that would shame an Aston Martin. In the old days under Ford's luxury division, no Jaguar could ever be seen to upstage an Aston, but since Ford sold Jaguar to TATA and Aston Martin to a consortium (with some Arab money involved) it is free for all. Hence the newly previewed Jaguar XKR-S. One of the highlights in Jaguar's display at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar XKR-S ups the ante higher than the already sweet and supercharged XKR. The XKR-S gets a retuned supercharged 5.0 V8 from the XKR. Power is boosted by 9bhp to 542bhp and torque jumps to 680Nm, up 55Nm. Top speed is now 300km/h and 0-100km/h arrives in 4.2seconds. The figures can put fear in anyone driving an Aston Martin V12 Vantage as well as scare a few DBS owners too. The Jaguar XKR-S gets a different suspension setup (ie, lower, stiffer and sportier), wider rear tires, different differential setup and a
  5. Now that Jaguar is safely housed under the umbrella of Tata Motors, the British marque is planning a major expansion of its current lineup. In addition to a rumored BMW 3 Series fighter, Jaguar is looking to take aim at the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class coupe with a stately two-door based off of the new-for-2011 XJ sedan. According to Automobile magazine, sources within Jaguar say that the XJ coupe will feature a pillarless greenhouse design, glass roof and will use separate sheetmetal from the sedan it's based on. Adrian Hallmark, brand manager for Jaguar in Europe, says that the two-door XJ will be "much more dynamic and emotional than a Mercedes CL." Hallmark also told Automobile that Jaguar is considering a whole slew of new models, including an XF wagon, high-end sports car based on the C-X75 concept, a crossover based on the Range Rover Evoque and even a possible shooting break version of either the next-generation XF or entry-level 3 Series competitor. 7. http://www.forbes.com/markets/commodities/...6markets08.html http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/ford...D&dist=hplatest By MarketWatch Last update: 8:55 a.m. EDT March 26, 2008 TEL AVIV (MarketWatch) --Ford Motor Co. agreed to sell its Jaguar Land Rover operations to India's Tata Motors for $2.3 billion and will contribute as much as $600 million to the unit's pension plan. The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker had said in August that it would assess what to do with the brands as part of a focus on Ford as its core global brand. And in January it had named Tata -- a member of India's Tata Group conglomerate -- the preferred bidder for the operations. In a statement on Wednesday, Ford said it will continue to supply Jaguar Land Rover for differing periods with powertrains, stampings and other vehicle parts, in addition to a variety of environmental and platform technologies. Ford also committed to provide engineering support, including research and development, plus information technology, accounting and other services. And Ford Motor Credit will provide financing for Jaguar and Land Rover dealers and customers during a transition of as long as a year, depending on the market. The two sides said that when the deal closes, they don't expect "any significant changes to Jaguar Land Rover employees' terms of employment." Ford's statement said that it has kept Jaguar Land Rover's workers and unions, as well as the U.K. government, apprised of the sale process. They have "indicated their support for the agreement," Ford said. Subject to conditions including regulatory clearances, Ford and Tata http://www.marketwatch.com/tpx/storyquotetip.tpx?random=0.2796206737778025TTM 17.12, -0.24, -1.4%) expect to close the deal in the first half. Ford shares were up 2.3% in premarket trading, while Tata shares slipped 2.7%.

  13. Jaguar has lifted the lid on the new Jaguar C-X75 concept supercar. The concept could become Jaguar's first mega performance vehicle since the cancellation of the XJ220 in 1994. When Jaguar introduces the supercar at the Paris Motorshow, they will drop a bombshell. The car will race to 300 km/h n 15.7 seconds, over a second faster than the Bugatti Veyron. However, where the Veyron continues on to 407 km/h, the C-X75 tops out at 330 km/h. The concept uses four 195-horsepower electric motors to launch the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and to 161 km/h in 5.5 seconds. However, this is not an all-electric model. The car uses two small turbine engines capable of running on compressed natural gas, diesel, biofuel and LPG. The turbines make the car an extended range hybrid, and provide the car with the capability to travel further than its 68-mile battery-only distance. The car can actually travel an impressive 560 miles without stopping. This is thanks to lithium-ion batteries, and turbines which can allegedly spin up to 80,000 rpm. These UK-sourced turbines have never been used on a car before, according to the automaker. More information regarding the 4.6-meter long, 1350-kilogram Jaguar C-X75 concept will be available when it debuts in Paris.
  14. If you are a car nut, you would know the best place to be this week is in Paris, or more specifically the Pasris motor show. Any car nut worth their salt will tell you one of the most exiciting part of any car show is the revealing of new, future, & ultra cool concept cars. While one expect one of the Italian & German Marques to steal the show, athough the honor of the coolest concept & powertrain (while we are at it) must surely go to the big cat from Coventry, a small town in the middle of England. Source: Autoblog Jaguar cx75 concept From autoblog: Yesterday's big surprise at the Paris Motor Show was the range-extended electric supercar from Jaguar, the C-X75 Concept. Built to celebrate the marque's 75th anniversary, the concept looks forward to the future while honoring Jaguar's heritage and design. Featuring four electric motors producing 195 horsepower at each wheel, along with two micro-gas turbines that
  15. Jaguar has unveiled an XF hybrid prototype at the Low Carbon Vehicle event in the United Kingdom. While details are limited, Autocar is reporting that the XF features an advanced flywheel hybrid system (FHS). Currently undergoing devolvement, the FHS has a stop-start city mode which allows the flywheel to collect energy during braking and dispute it during start-up. When combined with an engine stop-start system, fuel consumption would be lowered by 20 percent. Besides the extra efficiency, the FHS delivers an 80 hp boost for seven seconds. While that's not very long, it would come in handy during overtaking. Production seems feasible, but Jaguar hasn't made any announcements of yet.
  16. Pebble Beach in Montery California is the location for the famed Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance auto show. This event is held yearly and the event focuses on classic cars usually, and each year features a particular marque as its focus. In addition to the classic car cours concompetition, there is an auction, a classic car tour, and an automotive art exhibit. However, many (mostly luxury) car manufacturers used this auto show as a platform to launch or preview new models and Jaguar is one of them. This year they have decided to preview the limited to 175 units U.S only XKR175, which is essentially the same as the recently launched XKR75 for Europe and the new XJ design concept, which shows the styling for a potential XJR super saloon. The XKR175 will feature the supercharged V8 of the XKR giving 510bhp. It will have the usual bodykit with more aggressive front and rear bumpers, side skirts, larger wheels and a super big brake kit. This car is very similar to the XKR75 but is basically an North American version (the '75' means that it is commemorating the 75th anniversary of Jaguar but on the XKR175, the '1' is to differentiate from the Continental edition). The slightly more arresting news would be the preview of the Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept (pictured above). Built as part of Jaguar's 75th Anniversary and as a concept car to showcase the company's vision in customizing the XJ. Of course, many would think that this now shows the way Jaguar would go if it ever wanted to create an XJR version of their handsome looking large saloon. However, the styling exercise seems to have made it 'less handsome' in my opinion. The body kit somehow manages to make this large saloon slightly sporty. It is also lower than the standard long wheelbased XJ and features dark chrome, gloss black trim, satin matte pearlscent white paint and custom made 22in wheels. The engine powering the concept is the same 5.0liter supercharged V8 powering all of Jaguar's 'R' type vehicles; the XFR and the XKR models. However, the engine isn't the full blown 500bhp version but a 464bhp version. Since this is a concept car, there is talk that if an XJR were made, it would either have the same 500bhp or exceed the figure, as it is Jaguar's flagship car. As for the interior, the concept car features Jet Softgrain leather almost everywhere. The air vents and veneers have a gloss pearlscent white finish like the exterior paint. The seats and headliners have full quilted suede inserts as well as some suede and leather accents here and there. The dashboard features a very exclusive bespoke clock with chronograph functions developed and designed by the watchmaker Bremont Watch Company with input from Jaguar. Very nice indeed. Jaguar states that there are no production plans as yet and it is just a one of design. But it would be very safe to say that there will be a new XJR sometime in this car's lifespan.
  17. [extract] Taking over Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford has actually made TaTa Motors very profitable. From April to June of 2010, 2nd quarter sales Tata had posted a net profit of US$430million. From this figure, Jaguar-Land Rover sales have contributed to US$348million. Tata
  18. As gorgeous and capable as the new Jaguar XK, XF and XJ might be, some people in the market for a luxury sedan or GT still have a dated notion of Jaguars as service nightmares. Talk to folks from the Big Three and they'll tell you in no uncertain terms that fighting persistent jokes and decades-old impressions is, well, difficult. Those old impressions can linger in the mind of buyers well beyond their validity, crimping sales and blocking exposure to some very tasty products. One way to counteract that image problem is to design a better product, build it carefully and correctly, start gaining a reputation for reliability and wait for the hordes to push down your dealership doors. Another way to do it is to offer free maintenance to jump-start the process. Jaguar North America is using the latter approach, launching a free scheduled maintenance program for all of its 2011 models. According to Automotive News, the new five-year/50,000 mile plan will be called Jaguar Platinum Coverage, and will provide free scheduled maintenance, along with 24/7 roadside assistance. Jaguar has tried a similar approach in the past, but this new plan even goes so far as to comp oil changes, filters, brake pads, brake discs, brake fluids, and wiper blade inserts. The old program was last applied to 2006 models while Ford was still calling the shots. Jag's new owners, Tata Motors, are anxious to kick off the new XJ launch with a bang, hoping to show shoppers that this isn't your wealthy uncle's Jaguar. The program will be in effect when the XJ sedan goes on sale in May and will also apply to the 2011 XF sedan and XK coupe when they reach dealerships in June.
  19. Bloomberg, that all knowledgeable financial software, news, and data company, has very recently reported that Tata Motors Ltd has plans to raise billions of......rupees in order to expand the operations of its recently purchased luxury automotive brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as pare down the debt brought about for the purchase of the above mentioned brands in the first place. Refinancing of debts is a usual thing nowadays as even giant conglomerates like TATA also resort to this financial decision. Now the actual amount in US Dollars is only One ($1) Billion. It sounds so massive in when converted in Rupees - 47 Billion Rupees. The Indian company also famous for building that ultra cheap Nano car is actually gearing up Jaguar-Land Rover for growth in emerging markets, namely China and India. Tata will open up more showrooms in India and in China, a sales/ distribution company. Jaguar sold 8,821 units in a 10 month period. This is 8,000 cars that Jaguar would not have sold if it had not entered the Chinese market. It would seem pretty good business sense for Jaguar-Land Rover to expand into these markets which is expanding in leaps and bounds. This is also coupled with the fact that the new Jaguar XJ and XF as well as the current crop of Range Rovers and Land Rovers are actually brilliant products that people actually want to buy. Tata is planning to raise the amount via shares, equity and the like in order to come up with the $1 billion required for this exercise. Earlier, Tata had already raised 41 billion rupees through a rights offer in October 2008. The Tata Group, which is the holding company which other businesses include making steel, computer software, tea and power , invested 30 billion rupees by subscribing to the offer. And while Tata Motors had debt of 185.3 billion rupees (according to Bloomberg financial data), partly due to the loans taken to purchase the luxury vehicle unit from Ford Motor Co. for $2.5 billion in 2008, the corporate family rating was raised to B2 from B3 with a positive outlook at Moody
  20. This is not your normal fury kitty and it is worth much more than that. Taken in the Qatari desert, this photo of a Jaguar XJ220 left to languish at the mercy of the elements is wrenching to any lover of the model. The XJ220 was a mid-engined sports car developed by Jaguar in partnership with Tom Walkinshaw Racing. It premiered in 1988 as a concept car and was produced between the years 1992 and 1994. Only 281 were ever made. The 220 moniker stems from the car's top-speed goal of 220 mph which it came close to reaching. The production version was rear-wheel driven that came with 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 generating 542 bhp (404 kW) and 645 Nm (476 lb-ft) of torque. It is quite different from the concept version which was fitted with a 6.2 liter engine with 500 bhp (370 kW) and an all-wheel drive system. For a brief time, it held the record as the fastest production car with a top speed of 350 km/h, until the arrival of the McLaren F1 in 1994. The car remains a classic and existing models usually sell for around
  21. When Jaguar first introduced the XF here in the States, no one batted an eye when the car only came in V8 flavors. After all, a luxury sedan demands eight cylinders, right? Sort of. Skip across the Atlantic, and buyers have less interest in a fuel-swilling eight pot. Instead, the luxo-barges of the old country typically run smaller, more efficient diesel mills. Except in Jaguar's case, the company only offers a V6 oilburner in the XF line. Word has it that the big cat is out to fix the issue. Starting this fall, Europeans are likely to start seeing a twin-turbo 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine crop up on the option sheet. The powerplant is being refitted from Land Rover Freelander (LR2) duty, but will feature quite a bit more power and a new start/stop system to help keep fuel consumption low. Will they bring it to the States? Sure, right after Michael Jackson rises from the grave to run as Sarah Palin's VP candidate for 2012.
  22. Jaguar surprised the motoring world with its XF, but that's definitely not the end of the road for Jaguar's design department. The new XJ completely overshadows its predecessors and I think owners of the old Jaguars would wonder why they even bought one in the first place. The new XJ is sportier, more luxurious and much better looking than ever before. For starters, Jaguar listened to feedback about the XF's headlamps and that they should have followed the ones on the concept car, and now those from the XF concept have made it to the XJ! Also, it shares the same steering rack as the XFR which makes it agile for a car this big. And the XJ is made largely from aluminium which makes it much lighter than its German rivals which will help with its fuel consumption figures. Its clever too. With its 'Dynamic' Chassis mode you get heavier steering with more feel, sharper suspension settings and a more lively throttle response. The Sport mode lets you have a more sporty feel to the car, which is the size of a limo really. Its unique sporting software setting for the gearbox allows a delay of a downshift, rather than disallowing one completely as in other cars when the computers decide that you're going too fast for 2nd gear, which leaves you hanging in 3rd. In the XJ, 2nd gear can be engaged once the computer decides that the engine won't be over-revved. This whole gear shifting revolution is called 'bending the shift line' according to Jaguar. To me, the sporting credentials and the fusion of luxury and its sportiness is unparalleled in this segment of the car market. Mercedes and BMW with their chunky cars just feel too mainstream for my liking. With the XJ, its luxury at its best and it has the whole package; good looks, wonderful engine and a stunning interior. Its just a class above the rest.
