  2. Wii Japan sales overwhelm PS3 Mon Oct 1, 2007 11:48 AM ET TOKYO (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd's <7974.OS> Wii videogame console outsold Sony Corp's <6758.T> PlayStation 3 by more than four to one in Japan in April-September, game magazine publisher Enterbrain said on Monday. Nintendo sold about 1.6 million units of the Wii over 26 weeks through September 23 in its home market, compared with 385,492 units of the PS3 sold, Enterbrain said. The Wii features a motion-sensing controller that lets users direct on-screen action by swinging it like a racket or sword, helping widen the machine's appeal. Sony's PS3 suffered a slow start since its launch last November due to its high price and scarcity of strong software titles.
  3. From heart-broken to broke? Japan divorce loan helps Mon Oct 1, 2007 10:29 AM ET TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's first-ever divorce loan caters to those who fell head over heels in love only to find themselves up to their necks in debt. Named "Re" for those re-starting their lives, the loan helps divorcees cover the cost of compensation and legal payments and offers a lower interest rate than credit cards loans, on which Japan's growing number of divorce-seekers have depended in the past. "It's not that we are recommending divorces," said Yoshimi Aoki, spokesman for Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank, based in Gifu, central Japan, which offers the loan. "But we want people to feel more comfortable in visiting banks to consult on these issues," Aoki added. While Japan's divorce rate is still low in comparison with the United States and Europe, failed marriages have been on the rise in recent years. In 2006, there were two divorce cases for every 1,000 people, up from 1.7 cases in 1996, according to government data. The divorce rate in the United States was 3.6 per 1,000 total population in 2005, while in Russia it was 5.5 and 2.8 in the United Kingdom in 2003. In Japan, divorcees found responsible for the failure of their marriage -- for example, because of their unfaithfulness -- on average have to pay 4 million yen ($35,000) in compensation to their former partners, according to the Mainichi Newspaper. Aoki said that in the past, Japanese divorcees have often sought to pay off divorce debts with consumer finance loans or credit card loans, which tend to have annual interest rates of 15-20 percent. But with the newly launched divorce loan, divorcees can borrow up to 5 million yen ($43,000), paying a floating interest rate that stood at 5.8 percent on Monday. ($1=115.02 Yen)[/color]
  4. I know it may not be fair to compare. but since it follows in the similar price tag(yearly depreciation around 5K-5.5K). Seek your advice on which one is more value for money. Initially intended to buy a new 1.6 Japan car(Latio/Altis), browsed the sgcarmart and found some 2nd sonata's price is quite reasonable such as: http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2EMKbH4-1000.html Know the road tax is 1K/year higher for Sonata. Fuel will be higher around 1.2K/year for Sonata. Will the insurance be much higher(male, 35-40 years old)? Any other disadvantage to get the bigger car(this case, sonata)? Thanks.

  10. By Carl Freire - Feb 9, 2007 AP Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans worldwide to repair an electrical defect that could stop the cars' engines, a company spokeswoman said Friday. Japan's No. 2 automaker plans to recall 7,219 of the vehicles sold domestically and another 38,116 sold overseas, mostly in the U.S., a Honda spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity, citing company policy. Honda learned about the defective voltage converters -- which could cause a short circuit that would stop the engine and prevent it from restarting -- from overseas reports, the company said in documents filed Thursday with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Honda has received no reports of accidents related to the defect, the documents said. The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 2005 and September 2006, they said. In Japan, Honda plans to notify affected vehicles' owners by mail and to repair the defective parts, the spokeswoman said. The overseas recalls and repairs will be handled according to local laws, she said, without giving further details. Honda also plans to recall 72,597 Elysion minivans due to defective sliding door locks, according to separate documents filed Thursday with the ministry. The model is sold only in Japan, the Honda spokeswoman said. Honda has received 27 complaints about the locks, but no reports of related accidents, the documents said. The company plans to replace the defective locks on affected vehicles, manufactured between April 2004 and November 2006, they said.
