Held in Singapore for the first time, the 2013 Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) concluded on a high note at Kartright Speedway, with four Singaporean drivers clinching overall titles in five categories. Gabriella Teo (above) is only the second female in the history of AKOC to clinch an overall title15-year old, Gabriella Teo, dominated the Junior category all weekend, winning both Rounds 4 and 5 to jump from third in the standings to the top. Displaying a strong and consistent performance throughout the weekend, Gabriella Teo, started from pole and won both rounds with a commanding lead. "I feel victorious and am proud of this achievement. I wasn't expecting to win as I knew competition would be tough, but as we progressed through the weekend I felt more confident about taking the overall title. I was quite nervous during the final of Round 5 because I know that winning that race would mean winning overall. It's a great way to wrap my first overseas racing season!" In the Senior championship's 25-year old, Mohammad Nasri Naufal (banner picture), who has been leading the category, finished second in both rounds to take the overall title. "I am a little disappointed that I did not win both races, as it would have been an honour to win on home ground. But finishing second is not too bad and most importantly, I'm very happy to have won the overall title. It was quite tough racing against the younger boys in my category who are fitter than me," commented Nasri who turns 25 next weekend. The recently captured title adds to his increasing tally of racing achievements, including the 2003 AKOC Junior title, the 2006 Macau International Kart Grand Prix ROK Senior title and the 2010 Singapore Karting Championship Senior title. Meanwhile, Yap Kheng Weng's, double win in the Masters class saw him taking the overall title as Ong Kian Leong settled with overall Veteran title. Johnny Tan, Managing Director of the AKOC, said, "I extend my appreciation to each and every one who has been a part of the first AKOC race in Singapore. I am grateful to the Singapore Motor Sports Association and Kartright Speedway. We hope to come back again next year and hopefully more Singaporeans will come up to the other rounds of the AKOC too!"

The chequered flag was taken by all 12 teams who competed in the Grand Final of the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge and the i-Resource teams' consistency saw them take a 1-2 finish. Aston Martin Singapore Drakar Racing barely made it into third place with CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing right on their heels. But that's not the end of the awards. While I was processing my photos from the race yesterday, I thought of creating my own list of subsidiary awards! Enjoy:) Note: This is purely in the name of humour so please do not take any offence. Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) - Jon Wu (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) Jon clocked the fastest time of 44.064 seconds - this is not only the fastest time of the Grand Final, but also the fastest for the entire OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011 (ie.including its three earlier elimination rounds). Most Presentable Team - Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing It doesn't matter where they finish in the race, as long as they get the most attention off the track, in nothing less than style. Bringing in three race queens during their elimination round in August, Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing doubled the hot factor by bringing in SIX race queens this time. Best Helmet Design - Lawrence Lee (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) He had a mission to be the fastest man on the track - and also to do that in his best dressed effort. Although he failed to clock the fastest time, his S$5,000 Stand21 full carbon helmet and its spanking 'bling' chrome design couldn't get more noticed along with his fully customised Stand21 suit and shoes. Best Sportsmanship - Desmond Yip (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) When rival driver Chew Hock Ngee of i-Resource KS Rage Bull Racing returned from his stint with a cramp in his leg, Desmond kindly used his Salonpas on Hock Ngee, even helping him to take off the racing suit. My apologies if this photo looks a little 'wrong'. Most LOL (Laugh Out Loud) Driving Expression - Eye2Eye Burners The team from IT company Eye2Eye Communications Pte Ltd has some really cute drivers who drive with their tongues out. Thumbs up for comic relief on track! Most Candid Driver - Jansen Tan (Team Stamford Tyres) Each time he drove past me, Jansen would either wave or do a thumbs-up. Initially I thought he was signalling to his team-mate; then I realised there wasn't anyone standing next to me and the pit is kinda far away. Every time I'm standing at that spot taking photos and he is driving, he was sure to 'pose' for the camera. Every single lap - unless he was busy fighting for position. Most Creative Team Name - Unilever Formula None, i-Resource KS Farrari Racing, i-Resource KS Rage Bull Racing This was a tough fight and instead of choosing one I decided to just make it a three-way win. Formula 'None', 'Farrari' Racing and 'Rage' Bull Racing - Innovation beyond speech. Best Frown - Ron Tay (i-Resource KS Farrari Racing) and Ng Sier Han (Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing) I'm afraid this award only applied to those who DID NOT have tinted visors as I could not see their expressions. There were quite a lot of 'stressed' looking drivers and the best frown was a two-way tie between Ron and Sier Han. Check out the knitted eyebrows man! That's called FOCUS. Most Pitiful Look - Propnex Powerhouse Unfortunately I do not know the name of this driver from Propnex Powerhouse but his really sad face caught my attention. Cheer up buddy! It's just a race;) Coolest Acknowledgement Sign - Peng Malakul (Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing) Team-mates flash all sorts of signboards and cards to 'signal' for their drivers on track to come into the pits. To show that they have seen the board, some nod their heads, some wave or give a thumbs up. Peng gives the coolest three-fingered hand sign... Most Relaxed Driver - Eugene (Aston Martin Singapore Drakar Racing) This shot was taken after qualifying, while waiting for the race to start. Eugene carried this relaxed attitude throughout the entire race - there was an occasion where he was driving by the pit lane exit and Lawrence Lee of CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing was just exiting. Lawrence had an agenda to go all out and fight for position but Eugene waved at him and said hi (they are friends). After the race, Eugene said to Lawrence, "I said hi to you and wanted to talk to you, why didn't you talk to me?" Lawrence's reply: "I didn't have time to talk to you lah! I had to go and fight!" Most Classic Moment of the Race - Felix Lim (Team Stamford Tyres) Desmond Yip of CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing and Felix bumped asses when Desmond made an overtaking move on Felix. Desmond raised his hand in apology and everything was quickly forgotten with no hard feelings. However, CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing paid dearly for this incident later in the race - After this little brush, Desmond's engine died and he rolled into the pit lane. After the marshals restarted the kart for him, he decided to go in and do a driver change. As a result of his unplanned shortened stint, the team had to make a last driver change in the last 10 minutes of the race - dropping them from 2nd to eventually finish 4th. Sexiest Driver - Gerald Tan (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) Check out the curves in his tight tight spandex! :p Best Teamwork - i-Resource KS Farrari Racing When your team-mate makes a mistake, just point. When you're not sure what's happening, just point. Sorry I couldn't come up with enough awards to make everyone a winner. But hey for making it to the Grand Final you are already a winner - pat on the back! I wish I was racing too but don't get me started...

Hi, may i know how to join SKC, i need information on -What are the things i need -How many people i need in a team -Do i need to have my own go kart -How much -etc. Cos i can;t find how to join on their website planing to join the 2012 season, but my parents say must see how much before they sposer me to go since i have experince go-karting befor eand love it -Btw i am 13 so i am joing the junior cat :)

There will be OCBC karting race on coming 2 July 2011

Take a look around your office now and see if you can visually select three or more colleagues whom you think will enjoy go-karting. If you can able to do that, then you just might want to consider signing up for the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge. It is the first time that there is such a Challenge, where teams are to be registered under an organisation. However, members of the team need not be employees of the company. That means, you can approach me to drive for your team! Each team will consist of six drivers, two of which are reserves. Registration has already started and Toyota Asia, Aston Martin Singapore and Exklusiv Group have expressed their interest. There are only 36 slots available and organisations are free to enter as many teams as they want, as long as they can afford it. These 36 teams will be randomly allocated to any one of the three elimination rounds and the top four teams of each round will then return for the Grand Final. It costs $3,500 per team to participate, but before you start widening your eyes, check out what this fee entails. Usage of a brand new fleet of rental karts, fuel, tyres and helmets during the course of competition are included of course, but prior to the competition, there will be two practice sessions. The first session is a pre-selection round where teams can bring down 10 drivers for example, and hold a time trial to determine which six fastest drivers will represent the team. If you already know who the six are, then you can just treat this as a practice session. Once each team finalises its six drivers, these six have to attend a karting clinic where proper racing techniques and competition regulations will be learnt. Each team will also be given four complimentary racing suits which they may keep for personal use after the competition. I think that

Not afraid to race the boys, Gabriella Teo will be the first and only female competitor in the 2010 Singapore Karting Championship (SKC) when she makes her debut at the final round this weekend. Initially hesitant about signing up for the race, Gabby was worried that she will do badly in the race. But after encouragement from her parents, friends and her coach Kenny Yip, she decided to take part and compete in a sport that she so loves. I've been watching her kart since she started and I think she's really lucky to have parents who support her in the sport. My parents are not into motorsports and so I never knew what karting was until I was much older. By the way, Gabby's father is Allan Teo, one of the directors at Kartright Speedway.

Karting enthusiasts across the island gathered at Kartright Speedway to watch the fifth and last round of the inaugural Singapore Karting Championship (SKC). As the competitors prepare themselves for the finale, I caught up with the five category leaders to find out how they are doing and what strategies they have planned to clinch the title. CADET (8 to 12 years of age) Category Leader: Jon Lee Xuanhao, 11, Drakar Racing Team Jon Lee started the season right when he topped the podium at Round 1, despite not having his new Mini ROK engine arrive until Round 3. Going into the last round with a 32-point lead, the only driver able to challenge Jon for the title is his closest competitor Glenn Chiam (who happens to be his team-mate in Drakar Racing). To win the Cadet title, Jon needs to finish with no less than eight points this Sunday. Having just completed his final year examinations in school two weeks ago, Jon participated in his first race outside of Singapore and Malaysia last weekend at the Asian Karting Open Championship in Bangkok, Thailand. Other race series he participated in this year include the Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia Series.

Hi dear bros and sis, Does anyone here have lobang for daily car rental? Just 1 day? I'm looking for a car to drive in to msia just for 1 day as i'm going karting with 3 friends. Sorry if this sounds stupid but I can't bear to drive my own car in. Spend a lot of time cleaning the car and I don't want to attract unnecesary attention with my car. Last time I went in a lot of EG/EKs surround me and try to be funny So this time I just wanna drive in a simple basic car. I went there just 2 weeks ago with a few friends and I thought it was fun so I'm bringing a few other friends this time ( Can't go with the previous group cause their karting skill too good for me ) so I bring along newbies that I can handle hahaha. Also could someone help me by telling me the location of the karting place ( got to travel through some gravel road leading to the track ) so I can key into my GPS? If don't know nevermind I can ask my friends. Thanks a million for your help

Who would've known that a weekend of karting could bring about so much woe? I went for a karting session over the weekend. To be honest, it was my first time. I was both excited and a little apprehensive about stepping into one those little karts. It offered no protection of any sort. The hot engine is just less than 8 cm away from your right shoulder and sputtering engine oil. Your bum is about an inch off the ground and in the case of the karts I was driving, the accelerator and brake pedals were rickety. They weren't even bolted to the chassis! Despite those concerns, I stepped into a kart anyway. Barely 2 laps into the session, I had a collision with another kart. As far as I could tell, I had overtaken the kart at the previous corner but when I attacked the next corner, I felt a strong tap to my rear wheel. The next thing I see is a girl flying out of her kart and landing on the hot tarmac. My heart sank when I saw her flying in air in slow motion. I stopped my kart immediately to see if I could render any assistance. And what I saw was pretty bad. The poor girl had road rash all over and her hands were torn open pretty good. All this from a little kart going about 50kmh. This goes to show that a kart might look like a toy but it can be deadly dangerous. The girl was lucky that she was wearing a full face helmet when she flew off the kart and hit her face on the road. This could've ended way way worse than it did. A note to anyone attempting karting. Take it easy the first few laps and always overtake safely. Any dangerous maneuvers can cause injury not only to yourself but to the others around you. heard that the roads in chu chu kang will be closed for the event....same like the one in punggol last year....it will be happening this weekend...btw aside from karting....is there any other stuffs like drag racing or drifting....cos i went to survey the roads at cck loop and cck central....the roads are very narrow, small and tight....the last roadshow looks fun with all those actions...dunno if there is the same thing happening in cck... http://www.k1.sg/

Upon watching this video, seems to me the actual cause of the person's death was the neck snapped upon the kart hitting the barriers rather than the flip over. This was what i heard happened to her anyway. Watch the entire video. See how the neck snaps at high speed. Yes, the go kart is much slower but an F1 driver has very strong neck muscles so they pretty much survive a typical crash at 100+kph.

She died in the accident. Ms Chen Shu Li, 32, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the final bend at the USJ Go-Kart Track in Sepang, Malaysia, at about 6pm. She had traveled there on Friday with her husband and three friends to catch yesterday's Malaysian Grand Prix. Her body was taken to the Serdang Hospital for an autopsy, reported the Shin Min Daily News. The Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has contacted her family here, said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman. Ms Chen and her husband are reported to have two children - a four-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl. In an effort to explain how Ms Chen lost control of her vehicle, industry sources yesterday said that she may have blacked out because of high G-forces. G-force, which refers to gravity's effect on the body, is multiplied when one accelerates to high speeds. The type of four-wheel drive go-kart Ms Chen was using - which rides very low and can reach speeds of up to 250kmh - is usually reserved for professional racers, said Mr Lee Nian Tjoe, editor of Singapore's Torque motoring magazine. Novice karters generally drive much more 'benign' vehicles with a top speed of 60kmh, making the sport 'quite safe'. The 'fun karts', as they are popularly known, operate on lawnmower engines. 'You would (practically) have to scrape them off the track in order to flip them over,' said Mr Lee. Enthusiasts do not need a licence and can rent a machine from any kart operator. Go-karting used to have a large following in Singapore, but it popularity has waned since the race tracks at the National Stadium were closed several years ago, said Mr Lee. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kart_racing are they saying that the deceased is using the SuperKart? i do not think there are SuperKart there, or they will allow a supposedly novice to handle that stated by a certain Mr Lee, that one needs to literally scrap the kart off for it to overturn cos of the low CG, so EVEN if one experienced high G force AND blackout, how can the kart flipped over? more often than not, when one experienced high G during corners we will just go slower or spin out (as a result) i dunno... i feel for the family. also i reckon that the reason(s) of the accident, flipping of the kart, might be due to other reasons the track surface (bumps at high speed corners) or something broke during her session.

On my way with Jonbummer in the afternoon to Permas Jaya, he was the leading the way along Taman Sentosa area. We were making a right turn to head towards the coast towards Permas Jaya and guess what happened just as I turned right... ... that's right, a Malaysian TP was there and they pulled me over. In front of my car was a MY car with its occupants talking to another of their TP. Jon had managed to avoid the TP snare and was ahead waiting for me. I was thinking to myself, "Oh crap, must hand over some samolian papers so satisfy them soon. What a waste of paper samolians (I hope you guys understand what I mean by samolians)." I wound down the window and asked him, "Apa, sir?" He replied, "Racing, ah?" I replied, "Ya, ya, go Permas Jaya racing ya" He looked at my steering, then looked at the Kumho overall that I was wearing and then he waived us on... ... lucky me... and I thought I was just about to have to part with some paper samolians just to satisfy them...
