  1. Just need some to import those birds here. Tell them there are a lot of traffic cameras here ..... Yahoo news: Birds Keep Building Nest In Front Of Traffic Cam A group of Ospreys, large fish-eating birds of prey, have opted to build their nest in front of a traffic camera on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and no matter how many times officials take the nest down, the Ospreys just build a new one. All in all, the nest has been removed three times and then rebuilt again by the Ospreys. Yup, these birds have definitely ruffled the MDTA’s feathers. link: https://sg.entertainment.yahoo.com/video/birds-keep-building-nest-front-131824545.html sorry, unable to downlaod the video from office computer ...
  2. A new range of diesel-powered, less powerful luxury cars is gaining traction with buyers amid a re-categorisation of the Certificates of Entitlement (COEs). This is due to cheaper diesel and maintenance, as well as low-emission rebates. But experts said the trend may defeat the purpose of the COE changes. Experts said the new range of diesel-powered cars provides buyers with a less powerful alternative under Category A. But they said Category A cars were meant for more affordable, mass market options. Professor Lee Der Horng from National University of Singapore’s Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering said: "If somehow we are not able to achieve this policy goal, then I would say the consumer may still face the same situation that we have already experienced in 2013, which means Cat A COE may still be vibrant and the price may still keep climbing." New rules that kicked in on Saturday saw small cars with powerful engines moved to Category B of the COE system. Previously, cars with engine capacities of 1,600cc and below were placed in Category A regardless of engine power. 6. NEW high-rise surveillance cameras that can zoom in up to 60 times will be installed on selected buildings in the city by the end of this year. Two of these eyes-in-the-sky cameras will be deployed on each of three "strategic buildings" in Marina Bay for a start, said a police operations department spokesman at the annual Police Workplan Seminar and Exhibition yesterday. They will complement street-level Public Camera Zone cameras installed in more than 150 locations across the island. While the super-zoom Hawk Eye cameras will be able to resolve faces and number plates even from up high, police said there will be "active masking" on certain angles to ensure privacy. 13. The Straits Times The Straits Times Published on Apr 28, 2012 Printed from straitstimes.com Wages must rise faster with higher living costs: Minister Slow down income gap growth: Swee Say By Janice Heng The higher cost of living means that wages must go up faster, said labour chief Lim Swee Say on Friday. The widening of the income gap must also be slowed down, added the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) secretary-general in a message ahead of the labour movement's celebrations on May Day on Tuesday. Inflation hit a high of 5.2 per cent last month, after staying at more than 4 per cent in the first two months of the year. In his message, Mr Lim also set out the challenges - old and new - which Singapore faces. Copyright
  14. He's on the run from assault charges in Singapore and his whereabouts are not known. But Robert Stephen Dahlberg, 35, a New Zealander, wants to compensate one of the victims of the Suntec City brawl in April 2010. His lawyer has written to the police about the offer. Dahlberg, an options broker, is offering $20,000 to Mr Paul Louis Liew Kai Ming, 27, who was warded at Singapore General Hospital after the attack. When contacted by The New Paper yesterday, Mr Liew said he does not want the money. The second-year law student in Australia said: "I choose not to accept the compensation because I want him to return to Singapore to face his mistakes. "Because of the severity of his violence, I know his charges cannot be compounded but he can use it in his mitigation and ask for a lighter sentence. "As long as it may have an effect on the justice process, I will not do it. All this is very distressing." The police e-mailed Mr Liew on March 6 to inform him of the compensation offer. Dahlberg's lawyer, Mr Sunil Sudheesan, could not be reached for comment. TNP understands that Mr Liew has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and sees a psychiatrist once a month. http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/...310-332702.html [thumbsup]

  16. Hi all, My rear left tyre looks quite deflated last week, when I went to the kiosk to pump air, the meter indicated that the air inside was 80 kpi. I thought it was punctured but after sending to Autobacs for checking while dipping the tyre in water, they found no air bubbles. What the guy did was to pump it to 250 kpi and told me to monitor the tyre again. After going out and coming back home, it's almost flat again! What could have happened? Is there anywhere that I can get a reliable workshop in Ubi / Kaki Bukit area (I'll be grateful for any contact numbers provided) to help me check what's the prob? I suspect might be the rim or something inside the tyre got prob. I think prior to this, about a week ago, I ever while driving, brushed or mounted that tyre against a kerb and it went 'krong krong krong' quite loudly while trying to siam a lorry at a narrow bend. Thanks for any suggestions rendered!

  19. Ok folks, read about this post from Toyota Club SG Forum. Not a complaint really but based on what was described in the post and subsequents that seems to confirm this chap's uncouth driving style and ethics, I do hope you guys can keep a look out for him. As far as we know, he could be living in the vicinity of EdgeField Plains. I know drivers like this chap is aplenty but such an attitude is incredible. So folks, if you happend to see him on the streets, avoid him at all costs... Mods, I didnt post the licence plate number. It appeared by itself. Exerpts from TCS forum... This is just a shout-out to all the good folks out there to be vigilant against a certain black-hearted Toyota Picnic driver. On 18th Nov last sunday at around 730pm, i was returning with my wife from Malaysia JB back to Singapore. i was driving my black Altis and have passed the Caltex petrol staion and heading towards the innermost customs booth which were the furthest in. I stopped right next to the pillar to await my turn to join the car quene right in front of me as it was slightly narrow for my car to go through. We were just 20m away from the customs booth and there was a car's length between my car and the car before me. A vehicle (white Toyota Picnic) bearing the plate number SBL32X on my right suddenly cut into my lane as he wanted to take my lane as it was shorter. My wife and me felt the car shaking as the Picnic grazed onto my right corner of my bumper. During that point in time my car was stationary and I had no time to react like reversing or such. From that moment on it looks like he was attempting to just drive off without stopping so i quickly alighted and knocked on his passenger door side(i was nearer that door) to ask him to alight to talk about the accident. The driver, a male Chinese in his late 30s(wearing specs and short hair cut) then got out of his vehicle. His wife or girlfriend who was sitting at the passenger side subsequently also got out. After arguing and inspecting the damage to my car, he agreed that he was at fault and offered to pay compensation to me. He asked me to drive the car a little forward on the pretext that his camera phone cannot take the picture of my car damages at my original location as it was very dark. I obliged. During that time i proceeded to take a picture of his car plate number as well. (attached). We exchanged contacts by writing our names on pieces of paper with our hp numbers as well. I said i would prefer to do my repairs at Borneo motors as they offer the same color paint. We then arranged to meet up at Borneo Motors Leng Kee on 20th Nov at 1400hrs so that we can get a quotation for the damages. After which we went our seperate ways. I wish to state prior to today, I tried calling the driver's handphone numerous times and send a few smses, however the number was finally answered by a lady (I'm not sure of the race but sounds like an indian lady) who did not spoke proper english telling me that i got the wrong number! I waited at Borneo Motors for well over 45 mins in the hope that he's not a swindle and still have integrity to show up for the fixed appointment. I was wrong. He didn't show up at all, nor made any calls. After that, i made a police report at Alexandra Neighbourhood Police Post. I know there's probably nothing more i can do at this juncture other than paying to fix the damages myself, but i would like to alert all the drivers in Singapore to be on the lookout for this guy who really has proven himself to be a man without intergrity and honour. I wasted some sleepless nights and half a day's leave for nothing. On hindsight i was told by my friends that i should have either gotten a written agreement that he will pay for the damages and his NRIC number, or demanded compensation on the spot. Thanks for your time in reading this. It really felt better just by writing this down my frustration at those kayu drivers can just can't stand up to their mistakes on the road. Pls help to circulate this to your friends so that we can be vigilant against this irresponsible driver. If ever you have the "good fortune" to know the driver as well (he maybe in this forum who knows), pls remind him that what comes around, will go around. This was posted recently on stomp by the victim rather reluctantly and lo and behold, some stomper posted this reply: taffy2775 said on 26 Nov, 2007 Haiya. This Idiot! My family member got bad experience with him at my Punggol Edgefield Plains carpark. Dammit! He die2 wanted to enter carpark by the CARPARK EXIT while at the same time I was about to exit.He refused to budge despite several honking. When he finally moved, he stared at my driver as if we committed a big crime. Until now, if we see the car, we call it the Idiot''s Car. Curse him! What goes around, comes around. I wonder if this chap has kids. If he does, then I wonder what kind of things will the kids learn from daddy. Simply cannot understand why some people cannot be considerate, gracious and giving on the road. Their attitudes on the road probably show a lot about their character

  22. It seems like more car owner are keeping their cars longer and car maintenance and modification businesses are in brisk. What would you do to your car to extend the lifespan and reliability of your older car? Over here in JB, many are driving old cars and believe in keeping their cars for good 10 years. However, many are concern about their old cars getting overheated in longer road journey. In fact, they would hesitate to drive their locally assembled or manufactured cars up north at high speed and they often tell me that they are most afraid of their car engines being boiled or cooked . How could such thing happened and what should one do to overcome it ? Regards,
  23. As above. I bought some engine oil, (Amsoil) with intention to use in my next oil change. But a good packaged offer came along which I took it. I suppose I can keep it for the next oil change but is there any expiry date?
