  1. Hi, I have a few occassions when the fan kept running after I had shut down the engine. The first time it happened, I just turned on the engine for 1 min to shift my car. When I shut it down, I can see the fan turning. I turn on and off the engine again and it was gone. The 2nd time happened when I was using the car battery (engine not on) to vacuum. After I shut everything down, the fan remained. After about 5 mins, it went off. The 3rd time happened when I shut down the engine and turned it on again after 2mins. I drove it for about 100m before shutting down. The fan remained and I had to restart the engine and shut down again. Anyone had similar experience? Is this normal? My MK6 Jetta is the non-sport version.
  2. A friend told me if the owner doesn't drive his car too often and his car is always parked outdoor exposed to hot weather, he shouldn't pump full tank petrol because the full tank will take weeks to be used up ie the petrol left in the tank will be subject to high temperature (from hot sun) for too long and its octance value will drop. As a result, if he pushes the engine hard when the octane value drops too low, it's no good for the engine, and the engine may "piang" !!!? [sweatdrop] His advice:- if the car is not driven often, just pump enough petrol each time to last say the next 3-4 weeks. I am not sure what he said is correct.
  3. Hi ppl, just wonder how many drivers will purchased a Fire extinguisher which is small/compact enough to be placed in the car's boot? As heard from my friend that his friend's car started to catch fire, yes you did not hear me wrong. I was shocked to hear this too but actual reason not sure til now as still in workshop now. We always hear such 'story' but do not 'feel' it til you are caught in it. The driver of e car (my friend's friend) was so helpless and can only see it burned. We are talking if he have a fire extinguisher, maybe the damaged will not be so bad. But I just started wonder if it safe to put e fire extinguisher in car's boot? If it safe, any one know where to purchase one handy one and if can plz advise on the price too. Thanks for reading my concern. Good Sunday ahead folk! Cheers

  6. Do You Think Cars Should be Kept Plain and Simple and be more reliability? After reading up so many cases about car recalls because of electronic problems, I feel too much electronics simply make a car overly complicated and sacrifice reliability. Things like E throttle, which I feel is totally redundant. Whats so bad about having a cable to the throttle? Does it make the car less efficient and harder to drive? I only read about people complaining about the throttle lag...... I have also read about BMW's valvetronic problems and problems with the i drive etc. Of course, I do agreed that all these advances in cars and make the car easier to drive, safer and improve FC etc. But the amt of R&D and testing done to cars because its roll out is nowhere near that of other high tech equipment like planes etc. With the stiff competition, manufacturers would be rushing to push out new models and hence even less time for adequate testing.
  7. Anybody can shed a light on customs guys, everytime I go JB, confirm ask "What's your car plate no.?" Isn't it already registered????????????
  8. CashCard woes: Specific batch to blame Letter from Suhana Kharudin Manager, Media Relations Land Transport Authority I refer to "CashCard Woes: What's to blame?" and "$10 fine an unfair slap" (May 1). . Our investigations show that of the total number of ERP transactions in a month, about 300 cases of infringement are due to CashCard errors. Only five cases a month are due to a faulty IU. The 300 cases have been traced to a specific batch of CashCards issued in 2006, which had earlier passed Nets validation tests at that time. . We are working closely with Nets to determine how they will address the problem and to assure motorists that their cards will work well. . Currently, Nets is the only card issuer for the IUs. LTA is working on the next generation of e-payment system by allowing multiple suppliers to issue contactless smart cards. This will give motorists more options on paying ERP charges. http://www.todayonline.com/articles/251971.asp so really who many drivers were pwned becos of faulty cashcards, why LTA did not come out to state, which cards, wat serial no. and how does LTA intend to compensate them?
  9. Ever had a problem when entering a petrol station in a borrowed or rented car? Which side is the fuel intake on? I always thought that Asian cars = fuel filling on the left and conti cars = fuel filling on the right - in general. Well this email I received purports to have the solution. Not sure whether true or not. The writer claims it is the 'world's best kept auto secret". I think it's more auto trivia From an email: I have been driving for more than 4 decades. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either. Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tank? If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car. Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of uncomforted or injury. If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo below). It is that simple! I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated! Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers ed manual? I don't get why any mechanic I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explanation can be that all these people probably don't even know! Go out and share the worlds best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.
