  1. driver finally gets charged Charged over cabbys death A YOUNG motorist was charged in a district court on Friday with causing the death of a cabby by dangerous driving and injuring a passenger in his car. Bimond Ang Mao Shun, 20, a student, allegedly beat the red lights along Penang Road and hit Mr Mohammed Faizal Sumawi's taxi which was proceeding along Killiney Road towards River Valley at about 2.15am on July 5 last year. The charge says the collision resulted in the taxi being 'lifted up'. It flew to the left side of the junction across the zebra crossing before it overturned and landed on the footpath. Mr Faizal, 35, who worked as a technical officer by day, died on the spot. Ang is also accused of causing hurt to Miss Tjoa Shyet Teng, 20, seated in front of his Mitsubishi Evo 9, by doing an act so rashly as to endanger life or the personal safety of others. If convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, Ang faces a mandatory jail term of up to five years. The other offence is punishable with up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Ang is out on bail. His case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on May 11.

Russia's most famous - and glamorous - female bodyguard killed as her Porsche is carjacked in MoscowLast updated at 17:52pm on 30th January 2008 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Russia's most famous female bodyguard Anna Loginova has been killed after failing to prevent her own Porsche being carjacked. The glamorous 29-year-old died from head injuries after clinging on to the door handle of the Cheyenne and being dragged along the street at high speed as the car screeched away. "She suffered serious injuries and died at the scene," said a police spokesman. Anna Loginova posed to prove she was a 'woman and not just a weapon' Police believe that she was killed in a random carjacking and was not the victim of an attack based on her work for wealthy high-profile Russian clients. Loginova ran an agency for female bodyguards, some trained by the ex-KGB, to give discreet protection to Moscow's billionaires and their wives and mistresses.....

  12. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle4531119.ece US hunters claim to have found Bigfoot The Georgia hunters crammed their "Bigfoot" into a freezer Philippe Naughton Two American hunters say they have a bit of a surprise in their freezer: a Bigfoot, or Sasquatch. The pair, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, say that they discovered the body of the mythical apeman in a remote forest in northern Georgia - USA not Eastern Europe - about two weeks ago. They plan to present "DNA evidence and photo evidence of the creature" at a press conference in Palo Alto, California, tomorrow and an associate said that the body would be on show as well. Mr Whitton is a Georgia police officer currently on leave after being shot in the line of duty while Mr Dyer is a former prison warden. The two men also run a Bigfoot tracking business. Photos already posted on the web show a large ape-like creature crammed into a domestic chest freezer. Announcing their find, the cryptozoologists said that the creature was seven foot seven inches (2.31m) tall and weighs over 500lb (230kg). It is has both human and ape-like features and - as its nickname suggests - huge flat feet measuring 16-3/4 inches (42.5 cm) in length. Mr Whitton and Mr Dyer say that they are sure the creature walks upright because they sighted several of them on the day that they found the creature's body. The claims have been met with widespread scepticism but the pair have won the backing of America's best know Bigfoot hunter, Tom Biscardi, who has been searching for the creature since 1971 and says that he is sure the find is authentic. "It's a huge situation for me after 35 years, because I've wanted to bring one back," Mr Biscardi told the Sydney Morning Herald. "They showed me the body. They took me to the area where they found it - it took a day and a half to get there." "I got to be honest, when I first saw it I hated to see it in that state it was in. I wanted to capture one so the world could see it walking. I guess this is the next best thing for the time being," he said. Mr Biscardi said that a video filmed by the two men the day they found the body showed at least "three others walking upright like a man". He is now co-operating with the two men in trying to capture another Bigfoot alive. Speaking of tomorrow's press conference, he added: "We'll release the DNA analysis, and we'll have the body right next to the two boys ... then you can see it's real, that it's not all bxxxxxxt." -----------------

  17. i decided not to put this post in the complain folder because my purpose is not to complain but to share how glad i was not to have knocked down a motorcyclist and most probably killing him in the process last night at about 12mn along alexandra rd, that huge junction in front of queensway SC, rd was clear and i was approaching the traffic light which was green in my favour, i was abt 100m fr the junction n so decided to slow down in case lights change (i think many of us would have sped up to beat the light, but i was glad i picked the wiser choice last night, even thought the rds was clear of traffic n it was late at night) just as i passed the stop light at the junction (light was still green) a motorbike SHOT out from the opp direction to make a right turn, bloody joker was wearing all black somemore n not sure if his headlights was on cos he shot out so damn fast, my first reaction was to mouth the work "fcuk" and jam brakes and blast my horn. saw him turn to face me, after i blasted my horn and i was so glad that i was not speeding n managed slow down fast enough to allow him to zip pass my car... phew i was so darn reliefed that last night i didn't become a murderer, for the motorist i'm sure he'll wisen up and not ride so recklessly after his near miss w death, and for the other drivers here, please don't speed and always drive defensively, cos it's not just u but other kukus out there who will put u in deep sxxt.

  20. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/flo...0,7879522.story Five young men who were speeding down a runway next to a private Marion County fly-in community were killed after their BMW became airborne and smashed into an oak tree. The accident was on a runway adjacent to the Jumbolair Aviation Estates, a gated community where movie star John Travolta lives. Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the area of 1400 N.E. 95th St near the town of Anthony at approximately 3:50 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found that the 2008 BMW's wreckage by a large oak tree. Cpt. Joel Matthias, a spokesman for Marion County Fire Rescue, said that the car's five occupants were killed on impact. Three of the men were ejected from the luxury car. The Florida Highway Patrol identified the car's occupants as Joshua D. Ammirato, 18, James D. Hime, 19, Isaac J Rubin 20,, Jacob J Casey, 19, and Dustin J. Dawe, 19. Although it appeared that Ammirato was driving the car, Lt. Mike Burroughs of the Florida Highway Patrol said that FHP is still determining the position of the car's other occupants. Matthais said that, while the accident was still under investigation, it appeared that the car was driving on the runway and hit the jet blast diversion ramp - a large mound of dirt and a retaining wall at the end of the runway. The car became airborne and traveled about 200 feet, before striking the tree.Matthais said that there is an 80-foot drop between the end of the runway and the ground below. Burroughs said that the BMW struck the tree approximately 15 feet above the ground. Although FHP has yet to determine how fast the car was travelling, it hit the tree with tremendous force. "Portions of the vehicle were actualy embedded into the oak tree," he said. The car was registered to Santo G. Ammirato, who was not one of the vehicle's occupants. Burroughs said that it did not appear that any of the victims lived in Jumbolair. According to Burroughs, area residents said that they didn't think the runway had become a local hotspot for joy rides. "The local residents did say that it uncommon for drag racing or any event like that to take place on the airstrip," he said. "We do not have any idea what they were doing out there."
  21. Cabbie who caused death of financial advisor gets a year's jail By Julia Ng, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 03 January 2008 1817 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE: The taxi driver, who caused the death of a financial advisor along Scotts Road in April 2007, has been sentenced to 12 months' jail. 68-year-old Lee Yuet Kong had earlier been found guilty of causing the death of 29-year-old Alex Lim by a rash act. The court heard that on 9 April, Lee and Lim were involved in a minor accident and both had stopped along Scotts Road in front of Isetan. During their heated argument, Lee refused to divulge his details. So Lim stood in front of Lee's cab to stop him from leaving the scene. But Lee braked suddenly and then drove into Lim, who was clinging onto the cab's bonnet. Lim was knocked unconscious and went into a coma. He died in hospital a month later. Lee could have been jailed for up to two years. His lawyer had told the court that Lee is suffering from various medical conditions including nasopharyngeal cancer. Lee is also said to have a "history of heart failure" and is "waiting for open-heart surgery".
  22. Driver says: Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were... MY HEART SANK By Chong Shin Yen December 19, 2007 HE knocked down an elderly woman with his lorry, and its rear wheels ran over her legs. But Madam Neo Siew Eng, 68, was able to get up on her own. He then gave her $50 and left. The driver, Tan Boon Hoh, 43, did not know that Madam Neo had fractured a pelvic bone. She died three weeks later and her family blamed him for not helping her seek medical help immediately. Last Friday, Tan was fined $1,000 for causing grievous hurt by negligence. Before sentencing him, District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim said that there was no evidence to link Madam Neo's death directly to the accident. Tan, a bread delivery man, later told The New Paper that he was not being irresponsible when he allowed her to leave on her own. Said Tan: 'I had wanted to send her to hospital, but she looked perfectly fine, other than a few scratches on her arms, and she said there was no need to. 'She could also stand up on her own and was able to walk off after talking to me.' Madam Neo was on her way to the market to buy breakfast for her husband and family. After the accident, she hobbled in pain back to her Jurong East flat about 400m away. A neighbour who saw her outside her front door then called the police and ambulance. Madam Neo was discharged from hospital two days later but her condition later took a turn for the worse. She died of bronchopneumonia (severe infection of the lungs) on 28 Jun. Tan said he found out about her death only from the newspapers. The police also called him to inform him. REVERSING LORRY 'Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were. My heart sank, I didn't expect things to take such a turn,' said Tan. 'I felt that my actions had caused someone her life - whether directly or indirectly - and that I should visit the family to apologise.' Tan said his manager advised him not to go and instead he went on Tan's behalf.' The court heard that Tan had been reversing his lorry along the carpark driveway of Block 238, Jurong East Street 21, around 7.30am on 8 Jun. Madam Neo was crossing behind his vehicle at that time but he did not see her because a box on the lorry blocked his view. When he looked into the rear mirror, he saw that someone had fallen to the ground. Tan got down to check on Madam Neo and gave her $50 before they left separately. When asked by the judge how fast his lorry was moving, Tan replied that it was very slow. He told the court: 'If not, she would not be able to get up and speak to me'. Tan, who did not have a lawyer, added that he had asked Madam Neo in Hokkien what she was doing behind his lorry. But Madam Neo replied that she 'didn't know'. Said Tan: 'So I told her it was better that she sought medical attention. It was then that she asked me for money. I gave her $50, which was all I had that day.' He added that after receiving the money, Madam Neo walked away on her own. And seeing that she was all right, he continued his bread deliveries. Tan went to make a police report later that day. He pleaded with the court not to disqualify his driving licence as it was his livelihood, and the judge agreed. Tan could have been jailed two years and fined. Speaking outside the courtroom, Tan said that he felt 'vindicated'. He said he was sorry that Madam Neo had died and that the accident had been weighing heavily on his mind. 'If I had meant to run away or act in an irresponsible way, I would not have gone to the police station after the accident,' he said. He has been working as a delivery driver for 15 years and earns $1,200 a month. He is the sole breadwinner of the family. He said: 'The licence is my rice bowl. I have only Primary 5 education and I really do not know what I else I can do besides being a driver.' Tan said that his wife, 34, suffers from heart disease and needs to go for an operation soon. He had earlier submitted her medical reports to the court. She is unable to work because of her health. The couple have three children aged between 3 and 11. 'Now that I'm able to keep my job, I'll try to put this matter behind me,' he said. In a report in The New Paper in July, Madam Neo's family had accused Tan of being 'irresponsible and heartless' for not seeking medical help for her. When contacted, her eldest daughter, housewife Tan Lay Tin, 51, said they were still upset with Tan. 'A life has been lost. We're still angry that he did not call for an ambulance immediately after the accident,' she said. 'My mother was so old and even if she had appeared fine, the least he could have done was to send her for a check-up.' CONSIDERATE But she agreed that it was possible that her mother had turned down Tan's offer to send her to the hospital. 'My mother was a kind old lady, maybe she did not want to trouble him,' she said. Madam Tan added that when her mother was hospitalised, she had urged her children not to look for the driver. She also told them not to 'bring charges against him' http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,151039,00.html?
  23. Well as per my subject. I am starting to get really pissed off with the drivers i encountered during the morning peak hours each day. Isnt it as simple as if you cant handle, then please jolly well keep off the first lane. Every morning, you bound to meet drivers as follows: 1) Driver keeping more than 2 cars length from the one in front. 2) Driver taking their own sweet time to move off. 3) Driver who always brake whenever the car in front brake even though it more than 1 car length in between and absolutely unnecessary. 4) Driver who got no wish to go fast and dont want to give way either. What is this world coming to? Why isnt there more consideration practised? Frustration.....
