  3. korean say korean car sux SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 30-year-old Korean man, who lost his temper and beat up a taxi driver until he was unconscious, yesterday morning. The man, who was upset by a broken door handle, had also yelled at the driver for driving a "lousy car". The 48-year-old driver was taken to the hospital after his encounter with the irrate customer outside a hotel in Pasir Panjang. In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, the injured driver said that he had picked up the passenger after receiving a telephone booking. He said that the passenger, who spoke fluent English, shouted at him to drive to the airport, and threw his luggages into the car boot. Although the driver tried to coax him, the angry passenger refused to calm down, even breaking a door handle by forcefully pulling open the door. When this happened, the driver decided to call the police as the man's behaviour seemed unstable. When the man saw the driver step out of the taxi, he demanded to know why he was not taking him to the airport. Just then, the fired-up man also discovered the taxi driver trying to snap a photograph of him. It was then that the angered man charged at the taxi driver, knocked off his spectacles and punched him repeatedly on his head and back. According to Shin Min Daily News, the taxi driver blacked out but soon regained consciousness. When the passenger saw the taxi driver standing up, he ran up towards him and started to attack him again until he begged for the man to stop. The police arrived just as the man was trying to retrieve his bags from the car boot. Comfort Delgro spokesperson told Shin Min Daily News that the taxi driver did not provoke the passenger. The company would help the driver with medical bills and work with the police for investigations. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story...607-351182.html
  4. True the Korean was drunk and not making sense in his native language, I agree with the STOMPer that there was uncalled provocation by the local guy with his aggressive pointings and threats which resulted in the latter kena slapped or punched [shakehead] Not sure if there was a free-for-all after the video footage as things seemed likely to spiral rapidly downwards after the punching. Check out the video embedded in the website From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...with_drunk.html Posted on 16 May 2012 Man provokes Korean man -- and gets slapped in return STOMPer Ozer came across this video of a man involved in an argument with a Korean online. Over the course of their disagreement, the foreigner touches him on the face. He responds by shoving him back, and gets slapped in the face. According to the video's description, the Korean man had been drunk at the time of the incident. He had apparently boarded a taxi but had turned violent when the cabby asked him to fasten his seatbelt. A passerby -- the man seen arguing in the video -- then intervened to help out the cabby. The video was uploaded two days ago on May 14. Said the STOMPer: "I found this video of a Korean punching a local. "The Korean was drunk and riding in a taxi. "An argument broke out, and then a passer-by stepped in to 'help' the cabbie. "In the end, the Korean hit him in the face. "If you keep annoying a drunk guy, you are obviously asking for trouble! "While the Korean may have been at fault at the start, the passerby was aggravating the matter by even trying to talk sense to him. "Why make matters worse when you can just wait for the Police to arrive?"
  5. nice figure Korean Adoptee Is Top Advisor to French Presidential Hopeful French presidential candidate Francois Hollande, who emerged as the frontrunner in the first round of the vote, was captured on camera meeting with key advisers including a sharply-dressed Asian woman. Fleur Pellerin (39), whose Korean name is Kim Jong-sook, is the digital economy advisor for Hollande and a key confidante of the candidate. French media have singled her out as a top candidate for a Cabinet post if the Socialist Party candidate wins. Pellerin was born in Seoul in 1973. She was found in the streets when she was just three or four days old and sent to an orphanage. Six months later she was adopted by a family in France. Her younger sister is also a Korean adoptee. Her father was a technician who ran a small business, and her mother, who did not have much of an education, wanted her adopted daughter to succeed academically. "I studied very hard," Pellerin said. She passed her baccalaureate -- the equivalent to a high school diploma -- when she was just 16, two years sooner than most, and graduated from the prestigious ESSEC business school, Institut d'

  7. These days with Japanese and Europe made tires costing as much as $400 each for 17", makes Korean tires seem attractive and viable. Would like to consult your advise , preferably base on experience, about how good or bad Korean tires are. Like Kumho , which sells at a fraction of the price of the expensive counterparts. Long ago my experience with Kumho tire was that it was only good for a very short mileage, after that it becomes loud and grip weakened fast. How is it these days? Worth trying ? Comments pls, thanks.
  8. Getting dangerous to confront illegal fishermen and other seafaring folks in the open seas... Anyone watch Border Security on SH Channel 403 2300-2330hrs from Weds to Fris? This Ozzy programme sometimes show how their maritime forces tackle illegal fishing activities in their waters and they are dead serious about it. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1170784/1/.html Chinese fishermen kill S. Korean Posted: 12 December 2011 1046 hrs SEOUL: A South Korean coastguard officer died Monday after being stabbed by Chinese sailors who were detained for illegal fishing, a coastguard spokesman said. A second officer was stabbed and injured during the clash in the Yellow Sea, the spokesman said. Illegal fishing by Chinese vessels is common in South Korean waters and clashes have become increasingly violent. In September 2008 a South Korean officer drowned while trying to inspect a Chinese boat. The spokesman said the 41-year-old officer was stabbed after the coastguard detained a Chinese fishing boat 85 kilometres (53 miles) southwest of Socheong island at around 7 am. He said it was unclear what weapon was used. The nine Chinese crewmen were detained and were being brought back to shore. In October the coastguard said it used tear gas and rubber bullets to subdue Chinese fishermen wielding clubs and shovels. Some 21 Chinese were detained but later released after paying a fine. In December 2010 a Chinese boat overturned and sank in the Yellow Sea after ramming a South Korean coastguard vessel. Two Chinese crewmen were killed. Three Chinese detained after that incident were freed following protests from Beijing.

  13. Hi all, I watched a talk show and the guests made some comments about Korean speaking English. Scenario One Jane asked the Hotel receptionist, "Where can I find a Copy Machine?". The receptionist replied her, "oh you can go to the restaurant and they have the machine". Jane thought the restaurant really have a copy machine but she was redirected back to the receptionist as there isn't a copy machine there. later, both realized whats going on then Jane asked the receptionist how do you say "Copy" and "Coffee". The receptionist said, "Coooo..pi" and "Cobbee". From here, they realized that almost all Korean really have difficulty pronouncing the "P/F". Scenario Two A male guest was fetched by a female counterpart (Kim) to a University in US. Since the University has restricted area for parking, Ms. Kim asked the car park attendant, "Can I f.u.c.k here?". The attendant looked at Ms. Kim with amusement! Since Ms. Kim asked the same questions repeatedly, the car park attendant had no choice but to replied, "You can f.u.c.k. anywhere here you like, I can't be bothered.". That guest was so embarrassed about the whole incident. Regards,

  15. She refused to wash off make-up for two years 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. -AsiaOne Tue, May 03, 2011 AsiaOne For two years, this South Korean lady did not wash her face, reported The Daily Chilli. 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. She said that she first started applying make-up as a 14-year-old and eventually progressed to thicker, mask-like makeup. She added that the most important object in her life was her mirror, which she keeps by her side at all times. Despite being considered rather pretty, Bae revealed to a South Korean variety show that she was dissatisfied with her appearance and wanted cosmetic surgery on 10 areas of her face. Bae's mother, appalled at her daughter's lack of hygiene, had contacted the variety show in an attempt to force her to change her behavior. A visit to the doctor revealed that Bae's skin was twice her actual age due to the make-up, reported online media. According to experts, leaving make up on for too long not only clogs pores, but can also cause early aging. Clogging up your skin Sleeping in foundation, pressed or loose powder, blusher or any other product that covers your face prevents dead skin cells from sloughing off. This clogs pores and triggers breakouts, according to Paula Begoun, author of 18 best-selling books, including "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me". In addition, as "cosmetics can hold on to pollution", leaving them on your skin means that one can "end up sleeping with a load of free radicals on your skin" which can cause early aging, said dermatologist Dr Howard Sobel in an article by Allure Magazine. To prevent these, former-beauty editor Snezna Kerekovic advises women to cleanse their skin at least twice a day, in the morning and at night. Proper facial cleansing involves massaging a cleanser on the face for 30 seconds to "loosen up" makeup oils and dirt, according to Dr Sobel. Bae finally removed her make-up in front of the camera. The unusual 'reveal' showed a young woman who looks far more attractive than her made-up self.
  16. S.Korean tyre maker probed over quality standards HONG KONG: South Korea's Kumho Tire, the biggest tyre supplier to carmakers in China , is conducting an internal investigation following a report that its tyres failed to meet quality standards. According to a Chinese state television report, Kumho used more material from unfinished tyres than allowed, to save on costs. The report has sparked anxiety among some large automakers because Kumho counts the likes of General Motor and Peugeot Citroen as clients. According to the report, the tyre maker used excessive amounts of recycled tyres as raw materials in its manufacturing facility in Tianjin. That could cause the tyres to rupture. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is said to be conducting its own probe into the matter. A Kumho spokesperson has come out to say that the company would cooperate with investigators . The spokesperson defended the company's practice of using a percentage of recycled rubber on new tyres, insisting that there are no safety issues. Kumho currently has four tyre plants on the mainland. As the world's biggest auto market today, China is also Kumho's biggest growth market, accounting for some 30 per cent of global sales. Some automakers have already started to distance themselves from the tyre maker. Volkwagen Shanghai said none of its cars uses Kumho tyres while Hyundai Motor's Beijing venture is also investigating the claims. General Motors Shanghai said it would handle consumer complaints and inquiries into the matter. Shares in Kumho on Thursday fell nearly eight per cent in Seoul on the news. -CNA/wk http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/cor...1117147/1/.html
  17. I have done some research on my own and I think the main difference between the engines may be due to the bore linder/sleeving. AFAIK, many European companies like BMW, Audi etc are no longer using sleeves. Intead they are using mainly Alusil etching on their cylinders. Hence this created a layer of very hard alusil coating on the block. No sleeving of the block is required. Min wear during run-in period. On the other hand, many of the Jap/Korean cars are still using cast iron sleeves with aluminium blocks. If cast iron sleeving is used, there will always be significant wear during run-in period. I can't be 100% sure of course. There other numerous other factors that contribute to engine construction.
  18. Many of us feel that the Korean car makers are going to repeat what Jap makers did when Jap cars started to conquer the car market (at least in terms of mass market) in the 80s/90s. But have Korean car makers really done as much as the Jap in their respective initial period entering the world market? For example, the Datsun 510 (aka Bluebird, forefather of Sunny?) in the early 70s was already considered by many as giving the BMW 2002 (forefather of 3-series)a good run for the money. It had independent suspension and won races against BMWs, Alfas, etc of the day. Even today the 510s are still terrorising 2002 etc on track. Now, do we see any Korean cars doing the same, challenging the BMW todays? Then they had the 240Z, Celica, to fight with the European models with not bad successes on track and in sales.... where are the Korean today, are they doing the same? Having said all this, I still have hope and respect for the Korean brands that they will truly make it not only in sales, but on track also... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datsun_510 here's the original skyline in the 60s....

  20. Health @ AsiaOne http://www.asiaone.com/Health/News/Story/A...113-257964.html More than half of Korean women have athlete's foot Women accuse men of having smelly feet all year long. But during the cold season, it is possible that they are the smellier ones. -The Korea Herald/ANN Thu, Jan 13, 2011 The Korea Herald/Asia News Network By Park Min-young Many women hesitate when ushered into a room with floor-seating instead of to a table when having dinner at a Korean restaurant, especially in the winter. Sure, it could be because they are wearing skirts that are too short or boots that are too much trouble to take off and put back on. But frankly speaking, those might not be the only reasons. "I never say it out loud, but I am worried that my feet might smell or my toes might have bored holes into the stockings. Especially when I have been wearing boots all day long, because I don't know what might have happened inside them," said a 25-year-old office worker who asked to remain anonymous. Women accuse men of having smelly feet all year long. But during the cold season, well, it is possible that they are the smellier ones. According to a 2009 survey by Novartis Korea of 1,000 men and women aged 18 to 54 who live in Korea's four metropolitan cities, 51.5 percent of the women said that they have experienced foot fungus in the winter. Not a surprise, knowing how they fussily pamper their precious feet in the summer but often completely forget about them as soon as they disappear from sight, tucked deep inside a pair of boots. For all who feel guilty, here are some basic steps to make your feet soft and odorless again. #1: Wash them smartly Your feet could easily get sweaty and callused in the winter because they are stuck inside extra warm shoes for most of the day. Such shoes, including boots, are most likely made of non-breathable materials that trap heat and moisture which can cause calluses that lead to dermatitis like athlete's foot and bad odor. Some recklessly try to scrape the calluses off with something sharp, like a knife or a paper cutter. This can be even more dangerous than it sounds because doing so could cut off some of the healthy skin and infect that too. The smart way to remove calluses is to soak your feet in warm water for a while, rub them with a soft towel or brush, wash them with soap and dry them completely. If water remains on the feet, it could be another cause for bad odor. "It is okay to use foot exfoliating tools or cream if the calluses are too thick, but you should avoid using too much force to scrape them off especially when your feet are wet. Not everyone needs to get rid of calluses and excessive exfoliation could irritate the skin even more," said Park Ji-young, dermatologist at ArumdaunNara Dermatology Cosmetic Surgical Center. After cleansing your feet thoroughly, slather on foot lotion or cream that contains callus softeners. Doctors say that moisturizers are always good for the feet. If your feet still feel too dry and chapped, cover them up with plastic wrap or gauze for the night and you will find them much softer in the morning. If time and money permits, visiting a nearby foot massage center or a pedicure shop would be refreshing. Your feet deserve a full-course treatment from scrubs and massages to shiny pedicures from time to time, even in the winter. If you think you have a fungal infection, make sure you see a podiatrist. Young women are often too ashamed to admit that they have foot problems and refuse to go see a doctor. But doctors warn that it may bring on secondary infections or other serious complications if not treated soon enough. "Athlete's foot sometimes gets naturally cured when the season changes, but that is only if the condition is not too bad. In worse conditions, the germs can move on to fingernails and toenails. Then the treatment gets more complicated and it can spread to other people as well," said Park. "High humidity is a major cause of athlete's foot. Winter is a better season to treat the problem than summer because it is relatively drier. But even if you get cured for now it does not mean that you are cured for good. It requires continuous care."
