  1. Was cycling on bus lane and a white MPV was behind me. I look infront, a white man holding video camera and tripod stand right infront. Its right after queensway before portsdown ave to AYE. take note there.
  2. saw a number of times buses not using bus lane during its operating hours. they take the lane next to it, fighting for space with cars. Like this morning, there is this bus along lentor ave towards SLE, who chose to take the middle lane. The bus is still very far from SLE so even if it is not going up SLE, he need not keep to middle lane yet. He will have ample time to change lane later on. Bus can use non-bus lane, but we cars cannot use bus lane... What's the point of drawing bus lane for them when they don't even want to use it? LTA should remove bus lanes on many roads.
  3. 21st Mar 2009, about 3pm, TP WRX 75 slow crawl on ECP lane 1, at least from Tampinese to Ford Road exit at 80-90km/h with no car in front, but many cars LL follow behind, including me. As had been illustrated by our well respected TP, travelling at 80-90km/h on lane 1 is perfectly alright, please don
  4. My method of lane changing, pls comment Ok after reading http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...635942&st=0 , i have decided on this is how i am going to change lane in heavy , but not so slow traffic. I think the key is knowing how to play with my signal lights and not to confuse the other driver of my intention 1) initially, check for a gap using side mirror, NO SIGNAL 2) if got car quite far away at same speed relative to me.... SIGNAL if got car quite near at same speed relative to me....NO SIGNAL + me Slow down and let that car speed forward till he is in front if got no car, ..... SIGNAL If got car quite far away driving faster ... NO SIGNAL If got car quite near driving faster ... NO SIGNAL 3) for cases which I signal, i give 2 seconds for the car behind to take notice of me. 4) after 2 seconds i check the car behind on my side mirror again, if he speed up, I REMOVE SIGNAL and slow down and dont cut his lane if he maintain speed, i continue my signal signal and cut in, speed up and pay attention to the car in front, ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake if he slow down, i continue my signal and cut in and speed up, and pay attention to the car in front , ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake feel free to leave your comments, whether positive or negative. As long as we have something to learn from it
  5. Newbie (P plate) driver - How to change lane in heavy traffic? Help please...thanks = ) When i drive, i kinda feel nervous when i have to change lane in heavy traffic, esp. during peak hours on normal 3 lane roads n expressways. I need to change lane not because i like to, but because i have to make a turn further ahead, U turn, or drop off a passenger by the roadside. I see so many cars on my right or left side...all zoom past continuously like choo choo trains, n no gap to cut into...i kinda feel nervous leh. Then if i keep on driving n driving i will miss my turn. I keep my signal on by the way Today, i happened to see a gap n so i slowly wanna change lane into the gap. i did it slowly, since driving school say change lane cannot do abruptly. (i onced changed lane sharply n abruptly n kenna scolded by the instructor lol) Then the car behind i think speed up n horn n horn me. then i got a shock...feel scared. so i keep to my own lane n then let him pass before i change lane. Those laojiao drivers, any tips for changing lanes in heavy traffic? I always worry the gap too small to squeeze in, or i scared others will speed up n close up the gap once i wanna go in. Sometimes when traffic is heavy during peak hours, the cars on the other lane seems to go on n on.... all so close together, n no gap to enter. And another problem is, i keep on looking at my side mirrors to lookout for a gap for me to change lane into. Then when i keep on looking, n i tend to forget to see the traffic in front of me. Got once i almost hit the car in front of me coz the car in front stopped due to traffic light changed, n during that time my eyes still focused on my side mirror. Lucky i stepped on my brakes on time. So how ah? i find it hard to concentrate both on the front of the roads n at my side mirror at the same time, when i need to change lane in heavy traffic. Any tips from experienced drivers? Hope to learn some tips n skills here, in order to improve my driving...I'm a new driver still on P plate, n i hope i dun cause inconveniences to other driver or cause potential acccidents.
  6. Usually, when I drive on lane 1, if there is no car in front of me or when they are too far ahead and someone behind is coming nearer, I will quickly get out of lane 1. However if there are queues in front of me and I'm keeping a safe distance, sometimes I still see some driver so kan cheong start flashing at light and cheong to overtake but in the end stuck in front of me also. What's the point?
  7. Was driving this morning along Dunearn Road (after Eng Neo) around 730am. Those who use this road will know that it is a busy stretch especially nearer to NJC and Hwa Chong. So I was on the extreme right lane, when all of sudden, found myself driving behind a cyclist straddling between lanes 2 & 3! And the cyclist just rode on nonchalantly, with no intention of switching back to leftmost lane. I think this is pretty inconsiderate because you could see the traffic being hindered by the cyclist's actions. Not sure if this chap is doing this everyday ... this is my first time encountering this.
  8. anyone saw her ? she was at the beginning of AYE (tuas) at around 9.30am today friday 6th feb i was travelling on lane 1 n happen to glance on the overhead bridge for white ants, i think should be near lower delta entrance, the moment i look back on the road, b4 my brain can process wad this figure on the centre median is, she took 2 steps out to lane 1, dun blame me for losing focus ok, they make me too paranoid about bridges now and also she appeared after a bend my heart nearly stopped as i m less than 10m away from her at 100kmh, i think the car beside me also the driver heart also nearly stopped as i have to swerve into his lane to avoid hitting her. i actually have the mind to stopped n take her wherever she wants to go but then again, at 0930 on aye, stopping on lane 1 might create just more accident. anyway dialed 999 n inform them, anyone behind saw whether the police did come ?
  9. Hi everyone i'm a relatively new driver.. just now at ard 7.20pm i turned left into the filter lane from clementi road to commonwealth avenue west into a bus lane and i realised that i could not filter into the outer lane due to the traffic jam. Bus lane restriction is until 8pm so i could not stay in the lane. i was slowing down, signalling right and trying to cut into 1 of the cars at my right to get out of the bus lane. Then i realised that there was a bus right behind me also slowing down as a result. Eventually i got out of the bus lane at ard 5 secs later but i'm afraid that it might be too late. I'm worried that i might be snapped by the camera in the bus. How high are the chances of me getting snapped ah? If i'm snapped, how long does it take for me to know ah? Will there be a flash if a bus snaps some1?
  10. hi,had anyone notice the bus lane along bukit timah towards ten mile junction?do u all feel tat after the bus lane implemented over there, the traffic starts to get slower than b4 though now bus is more faster..especially after 5pm..
  11. Guys and gals....there is a new sign that I saw today....that is painted on the road right after a bus bay... And I would advise you guys and gals to give way...cos barely 10m away....I saw this...
  12. just before bishan driving range traffic light, was on lane 4 and this comfort taxi on lane 3, lights was red.. when turned green, lane 3 and 4 will merge just when we pass the traffic junction.. this taxi was on my left, about 3/4 length of a car behind me. when we almost cross the junction, the bus was ahead so i give way to him.. and i should be next.. but then, this taxi kept accelerating and try to squeeze me to the kerb.. i have nowhere to go.. i cant possibly brake and let him pass me first. when the lane merged, he still accelerate and his left side mirror hit my right side mirror.. den he braked and backoff.. i then stop my van at the bus stop in front and he followed.. when i got down i saw an aunty in the cab.. and i thought, got passenger still drive like that? so i asked the driver, cant u see me, and he said the merging lane, i was supposed to give way to him.. but i told him i was already ahead.. i asked him how to settle.. his mirror no damage.. but mine, see attached picture.. (actually looking at the damage, quite obvious its his fault and can see he was behind me) nothing much.. but if he just apologise, i'll leave it at that.. but he was so arrogant.. say he not in the wrong, so i decided i wont let the matter rest.. so i told him nvm.. i copy down ur license plate and claim ur insurance.. den he said i'll claim urs too and he left.. what should i do? i'll call up my insurance agent to report this and also call comfort to complain about his reckless driving.. any advice?
  13. Hi all, just need to ask, i stay ard upper bukit timah area, coming from railway mall, had to make a U turn just after the old fire station to head back towards hume ave., that U turn is kind of sharp, so when i turned, normally i will end up in the first lane( which also happens to be the bus lane) this time i U turn, attempted to filter right to get out of the bus lane, then just nice see one assh0le with the camera in front, but his head was down writing something. i was like wtf! then indicate right and tried to get out of the lane, just nice some guy from behind was speeding up and gave me a horn( gave him a sorry wave), but i got out of the lane JUST after passing the guy with the camera. question is, under this kind of situation, will kena or not? i ended up in the buslane becos of the U turn ( on reflection, if i were to U turn into the 2nd lane, it would be a super sharp U turn which would be quite difficult, my car normal car and i not so skill one) this case is not i purposely cheong the dam lane, but bo bian U turn end up in the first lane one. dam thing spoil my evening sia..:(

  16. Used-car buyers in the slow lane Potential buyers were shying away from showrooms, and sales had dropped by as much as half last month. Tue, Nov 11, 2008 The Straits Times By Yeo Ghim Lay & Ben Nadarjan THE global financial crisis appears to have put the brakes on sales of second-hand cars, which had been motoring along nicely since the beginning of the year. A check with 10 used-car dealers found that potential buyers were shying away from showrooms, and sales had dropped by as much as half last month. "Customers are taking a wait-and-see attitude. It's like everyone is on hold since the financial crisis started," said Mr Jerry Ong, owner of Auto Inn. He used to sell 15 to 25 cars every month, but saw fewer than eight roll off the showroom floor last month. The owner of a used-car dealership at Turf City, who declined to be named, said sales had dropped by half. He expects even less business this month. Hardest hit are the sales of big cars, like luxury sedans and sport utility vehicles, which consume more petrol than smaller models. Mr Neo Nam Heng, president of the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association, said that while the market was still moving, sales were "quite slow" during the last two weeks of last month. Official figures for the month are not yet available. The slowdown marks a change from previous months, when car buyers made their way to second-hand dealers as consumers tightened their belts amid high prices for petrol, electricity and rice. Land Transport Authority statistics show that used-car sales from July to September averaged 2,538 a month ? a jump of 20 per cent from the same quarter last year. More than 23,800 used cars were sold last year, up from about 20,800 in 2006. But the global financial crisis appears to have changed all that. The failure of some of the world's biggest banks, gyrating stock markets and the drying up of credit have left potential car buyers jittery. The trend is especially pronounced in the luxury car market, where one agent said that buyers were unwilling to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a car. The agent recently advised a client to pull his Maserati off the market as no buyer was willing to meet the selling price of more than $200,000. A check on popular car website www.sgcarmart.com showed that there were 34 luxury cars available last month, compared to seven in September and just one in August. They include a two-year-old Lamborghini Gallardo going for $620,000. Meanwhile, dealers are slashing prices to get more people behind the wheel. Mr Glen Wong, a senior sales executive at Hua Yang Credit, said prices had been lowered by $1,000 to $2,000 per car three weeks ago. At Lake View Credit, a two-year-old Toyota Corolla Altis is going for about $42,000 now, down from $48,000 three months ago. Said managing director Tan Ah Chiew: "New cars are now cheaper, so used-car prices must come down too. And with the current state of the economy, customers will be paying more attention to prices."
  17. I'm really curious to know, generally I really avoid lane 1 unless I need to overtake somebody. Our E-way at most have a speed limit of 90km/h. However, most forumers agree that lane 1 is the overtaking lane, so if one is travelling merely at the speed limit, that that fella is road hogging. So if I'm travelling at lane 1 above the speed limit, and get caught by the speed camera, will I get summoned? Do they have some kind of a tolerance level - like 10 - 20 km/h above the limit they won't summon?
  18. Hi folks, today receive one summon for dropping my mum at the Eunos bus stop opp the car driving centre. couldn't LTA be more understanding that we are not trying to hogging the whole bus lane but just sending our love one to the bus stop in order for them to catch the bus to their work place?all these was less than 30 second Does appeal works?
  19. Was driving to town today and saw the whole left side is demarcated a BUS lane....damn....looks like 1 lane less to travel and guess it will then JAM and then guess what...ERP right in Bukit panjang
  20. Guys, Since my previous thread has been removed and you all eager to know what is Traffic Police reply regarding the overtaking lane. It is not wrong to give way to fast-moving vehicles if you are already travelling within the speed limit unless those emergency vehicles like Ambulance or Police cars. You should give way to fast moving vehicles on the extreme right lane of the road or expressway if you are slower than the speed limit of the road or expressway. Even if you are travelling above the speed limit of the road, you are advised to keep your speed within the speed limit of the road. Do take note of those highlighted portion : "Dear Mr XXX I refer to your preceding email. You may wish to know that it is also an offence to drive at unreasonably low speeds on the road, especially on the rightmost lane or along the centre of the road or expressway. Motorists travelling slowly are advised to keep to the left side of the road or expressway-especially small capacity motorcycles, goods vehicles and lorries. In addition, motorists travelling in the extreme right lanes should give way to fast-moving vehicles intending to overtake. However, while motorists should not hinder the smooth flow of traffic, such fast-moving vehicles should also keep within the stipulated speed limit for that particular stretch of road, or of their vehicles, whichever is lower. Below is the email I sent to Traffic Police : "17 Oct, 2008 06:37 PM To SPF Feedback TP/SPF/SINGOV@SINGOV cc Subject Rules for overtaking in Lane 1 Dear Officer-in-charge, I like to bring to your attention regarding a bad experience I encountered this afternoon around 12pm when I was traveling at speed limit of 100km/h along PIE towards Jurong some where after Tampines Exit. I was traveling at 100km/h on Lane 1 of the PIE as the speed limit for that stretch of road is 90km/h and there was no car in front and lane 2. Suddenly, there is a Subaru Legacy coming from a distance traveling above 100km/h and tailgating me for some time. I did not give way to him and he overtake me from Lane 2 and stare at me when his car was beside my car, after he overtake my car, he suddenly slow down to around 60km/h causing me to step on my brake as it is below the speed limit of the road. I ignore him and change lane to lane 2, letting other vehicles to play with him and I change back to lane 1 after I see no more oncoming vehicles from lane 1. It was some distance some where before Eunos exit that I see this Subaru Legacy again in front of my car at lane 1, I stay away some distance from him knowing his intention but he suddenly change to lane 2 and exit out of Paya Lebar Exit. My passenger was telling me that the driver stare at me again but I just ignore him as safety is more important. I was told by my friends and some forum members that even though I am travelling within the speed limit of the expressway on lane 1, I need to give way to vehicles which are traveling at higher speed and I am consider a road hogger when I don't give way to them? I know that lane 1 is for overtaking vehicles and I will give way to authority vehicles if needed even though I am traveling at the speed limit of the road, I will also need to change back to lane 2 if I need to overtake some vehicles. Please advise me the proper rules for lane 1 and overtaking and hope you can reply me soon, thanks. Regards, Mr XXX"
  21. Anyone noticed this recently? I've started to notice for the past week or so that taxis are now hogging in lane 1 quite frequently. Just today kena twice. First time was to work. A cab was hogging lane 1 from PIE towards Eunos after Upper Bukit Timah exit all the way to after the Old Police Academy. Another was going home. From PIE towards Tuas after Paya Lebar all the way to BKE, I think. Wonder what's their problem? Last time most drive like F1 racers. Now that F1 is coming, they drive slow and cautiously in Lane 1. A slow (pun intended) and silent protest?
  22. Recently, keep seeing people who just cheong in from middle lane into the right lane. Worse still... never signal to give ample notice to the drivers on the right lane. If play daytona, can understand no signal switch. Not once, but several times I see people jump into the right lane without even picking up their speed to match those on the right lane. Many bros here (myself included) dun have the luxury of having a 4 pot, 6 pot or even 10 pot front big brake kits. How to brake on time, when people just jump into ur lane (esp highway) like that without signalling to warn u first? Really no surprise that there are chain collisions from time to time. Not many people seem to be practising the "signal, check mirror first, filter lane" rule. Or, at least, "Signal, check, gradually move into the lane". My pt in making this post is not so much to complain. But, more for the bros here to be more wary of such trigger happy drivers. If we dun take the move to be more cautious and careful in our driving, we will only waiting to be the *touch wood* next accident victims.
  23. Let's say if the right turning lane is slow and congested, everyday you will see people driving in the middle lane all the way until the last minute and then filter to the right lane so as to "cut queue". Lets say this guy cannot cut in and stop in the middle lane blocking the forward traffic. What will u do if you are the car behind him trying to go forward in the middle lane? I see this all the time and it is very fustrating as during peak hours traffic is already so bad and there are still so many inconsiderate drivers. I mean if you want to cut queue and cut in at last minute, fine. But if are unable to cut in, how can you stick out in the middle lane and block the forward moving traffic? And amazingly, not many people horn such people leh and I see more and more such axxxxxes everyday.
  24. Last night as i was travelling home, i met this idiotic old E200 white mercs. We were on a 3 lane road and note > the whole freaking 3 lanes only got 2 cars which is me and the uncle. I was on the extreme left lane travelling at 50km per hour. This uncle came from quite a distance and instead of filtering right to over take, he flashED me. I was like WTF, i am going slow on a slow lane and you can overtake all you want. What is the FLASH for. I got pissed off and decided to slow down to less than 20km per hour as he continue to follow me closely and flashED continously. Then he decide to overtake me and drove side by side with me at 20km per hour cursing and swearing at the same time while looking at me. When he started to curse and swear, i got super pissed off cos i dont think i was in the wrong lor so why should i be subjected to your sxxt. So I did something super dangerous. I down shift and chased him and overtook him in lane 2 and drove in front of him at a super slow speed and never give him any chances to overtake. I did this for 10 minutes until i reach my destination. Call me childish but i dont care lor cos i did not do provoke him in the first place. I simply hate it when i meet road idiot like him. Unless it was wrong to travel at 50km per hour on the extreme left lane of a 3 lanes road with practically no cars and a speed limit of 60km per hour.
  25. ST 15 May DON'T try cutting into the bus lanes from June 2. You may be caught on camera - from a bus. Ninety buses on 12 services will have cameras fitted on the front to help the authorities catch errant driver violating the bus lane rule, which is to ensure buses get an uninteruppted run down their lanes. The buses with cameras will ply both the city areas and the heartlands, on services which cover the new areas designated as full day bus lanes, said LTA on Thursday. Some cameras have already been fitted on SBS buses on a trial basis last year. Previous cameras on buses, introduced in the 1990s, proved unreliable and traffic wardens were then needed to enforce the bus lane rule. Those motorists who are caught flouting the bus-lane rule will be fined $130. Eleven stretches of road in the city, which are already designated normal bus lanes - operating only in the morning and evening - will be converted to full day bus lanes. Full day bus lanes are in operation from 7.30am to 8pm on weekdays and Saturdays, except on public holidays. All the new full-day bus lanes are in the Central Business District and include stretches on Grange Road, Bencoolen Street, South Bridge Road, Victoria Street, New Bridge Road, Hill Street, Robinson Road, Shenton way, Fullerton Road and Collyer Quay.
