  1. Mine is about 4yrs old, and ocassionally the signals are weak. But I believe such gadget is timeless life (almost) coz i cant think of any wear n tear parts inside what will be worn and affect its performance? How long has yours lasted? It's not expensive, sometimes feel like changing to a new one.
  2. So fast revamp... means no point going there now till it's fully revamped.. thats the only reason why i go uss.. those who bought the season pass really suay.. BATTLESTAR Galactica, the star roller-coaster ride at Universal Studios Singapore (USS), may soon be history. The outdoor attraction is said to be undergoing an overhaul, some nine months after it was shut down. Sources said the theme park is looking to replace the sci-fi-themed ride, which is based on the hit television series Battlestar Galactica, with another movie theme. The revamped ride is expected to get a new name, new interiors and a fresh coat of paint, among other proposed changes. The new ride is slated to be launched by the end of this year. In response to queries from MyPaper, Resorts World Sentosa, which manages USS, said that Battlestar is "unavailable as it undergoes an attraction review". It declined to elaborate. Billed as the world's tallest pair of duelling roller coasters, dubbed Human and Cylon, the 90-second ride has sharp turns, vertical loops and can go as fast as 90kmh. Sources told MyPaper that the ride is being overhauled because visitors "cannot relate to the current theme". One of them said: "They (the visitors) don't even know it's called Battlestar Galactica. People know it only as the blue track and red track." The latest suspension is unlike the previous closure in March 2010, when a seat had fallen off during a routine test. No one was hurt in the incident. It reopened after nearly a year of investigations, redesign, reassembly and testing. MyPaper understands that, this time round, Battlestar's closure was planned. Singapore Polytechnic marketing and retail lecturer Amos Tan said that visitors, who were disappointed by the prolonged closure of the popular roller-coaster ride, may not want to return. "If this particular ride always has problems, it will be good for them to change to something more relevant." He added: "A theme is very, very important. Theme parks' (revenue) relies a great deal on merchandise...You would want a piece of Sesame Street, Toy Story, but Battlestar Galactica doesn't sound like something you take home." Executive Jolene Koh, 25, who went to USS for the first time in January, said: "I was quite disappointed. It's supposed to be a highlight of USS. I think it hypes up the atmosphere with people on the roller coaster screaming in the background. It's less of a theme park without that." 3. Will be heading in to KL this Saturday morning, crossing Tuas around 6.30am. I have always driven in one breath(plus toilet breaks of cos) all the way from SG to KL without taking breakfast stops along the way. However, because there are some "VIPs" in this trip, a stopover at Malacca(or maybe some other towns) is planned, preferably not too far off the NS Highway. That means exit NSH > stop > jiak > pee > continue trip. Any good restaurants serving timsum or local style foods in Malacca or towns to recco? Should be looking at reaching Malacca around 8.30 to 9 am. Food price is not an issue as prices there are always reasonable.
  4. Hi Guys, I have to drive up to Malacca tomorrow to attend a funeral. This is a totally unexpected trip and I have not driven in for the past 5 years. Can someone provide me with contact numbers for reliable breakdown/towing services please? Also the relevant charges if you know them. Thanks very much.
  5. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/wages-in-private-sector/1137196.html Any bros saw this article...? Just some quick observations... a. I am quite sure I didn't get half of that 5.3%, and so did my whole company on average b. Is the government going to increase costs of living based on such data? ie raise bus fares again c. how did the statistics come about in the first place? Quite frankly I am worried when I see such stats..shows I am way below national average once more..
  6. Those responsible for food wastage included food manufacturing and catering industries and hotels. Every day last year, each person in Singapore wasted an equivalent of one packet of economy rice or nasi padang. All this added up to an astounding record of 796,000 tonnes - the weight of about 1,420 fully loaded Airbus A-380s - of food waste, according to National Environment Agency statistics released this month. This marks a steep 13.2 per cent rise from the 703,200 tonnes dumped in 2012, and is the sharpest spike in at least six years. Before last year, food waste had typically gone up between 1.6 and 6.7 per cent year on year since 2007. "It's an extremely steep rise and it's rather disturbing that there is a distinct lack of awareness and nonchalance to food security issues," said Singapore Environment Council chief executive Jose Raymond yesterday. The amount of food waste, which includes cooked food and expired packaged products, last year is a 42.4 per cent leap from the 2007 figure, far outpacing the 17.7 per cent growth in national population. Raymond blamed rising consumer affluence, a growing food industry that is "constantly bringing new delicacies to the table", and a lack of public awareness on food waste. An affluent society has resulted in habits such as "not finishing up our food (because) the taste is not up to par or the inclination to load up our plates when in front of a buffet line", said Food and Beverage Managers' Association (FBMA) president Cheong Hai Poh. He revealed that FBMA has already been studying food practices in Europe. The problem has also permeated every link in the supply chain, said Minister of State for National Development Maliki Osman in Parliament last week. Among those culpable included food manufacturing and catering industries, food and beverage outlets as well as hotels. The latest statistic has surprised Restaurant Association of Singapore president Andrew Tjioe, who is also the executive chairman of Tung Lok Group. "I have seen restaurants with waiters who keep customers from over-ordering," he said. "People also dabao (take away) leftovers, it is not shameful. I do so even if I have only a little bit of food left." He believes catered occasions, such as buffets and banquets, were the prime wasters. People also tend to cater more food than required, said Tjioe. "But caterers wouldn't dare to cut down in case the demand is there and food is not enough." He suggested reducing Chinese banquet courses, which can have as many as nine dishes, or to cut the size of portions. Open-concept kitchens at restaurants such as Carousel at Royal Plaza on Scotts also help chefs gauge how much food is still available to diners, said its general manager Patrick Fiat. Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association president Thomas Pek, who said he will raise the problem at an association meeting later this month, urged more companies to work with charities in giving away food that is nearing its expiry date. He also suggested that more supermarkets and bakeries could mark down prices of their fresh produce near the end of the day. Despite the massive amount of food being disposed, recycling remains low. Last year, only about 13 per cent of the total was recycled, up 1 per cent from the previous year. This comprises mainly clean food waste such as spent grains from beer brewing and bread waste, which are converted to animal feed. Said Raymond: "With the amount of food waste being generated, it is probably timely for Singapore to revisit the possibility of food waste recycling." 8. One of Singapore's leading general insurance providers said today (Aug 29) that the number of motor accident claims involving cyclists that they have received doubled from 2010 to 2012. AIG Asia Pacific Insurance (AIG) also said that the number of bodily injury claims made by cyclists doubled in that same period. "We've seen a significant increase in bodily injury claims involving motorists and cyclists over the past year," said Ms Wong Siew Lee, AIG Singapore Vice-President who heads the auto insurance business. The number of cyclist-related motor accidents in the first half of this year has already exceeded the total for 2012 by 30 per cent, AIG said in a release. According to Ms Wong, AIG has seen an average annual increase of 11 per cent over the past five years in terms of bodily injury claims overall. "This is a rising trend which road users need to be aware of. We encourage everyone to take extra care on the roads," Ms Wong said. "With the rise in accidents involving cyclists, it is very important for motorists to ensure their insurance is up-to-date and comprehensive. Whatever the mode of transport, everyone has a right and a responsibility to be safe on the road." The insurer also said that the increase in accidents involving cyclists has coincided with the growing popularity of cycling in Singapore both as a sport and as a mode of transport. 9. Recently, i bought some promo tix from the jetstar for our annual family trip in Nov. 6 person in total. Instead of sourcing for travel insurance, i just bought it together with tix. After I paid for it, i didnt hear anything from the jetstar or the insurer AIG regarding to the insurance. I didnt chase them for the policy doc since, i have proof that i have paid and the trip is still some time away. 2 days ago, jetstar change my itineray and we are made to come back 2 days later than our original booking. I wanted to check if I would be reimbused for the additional days so i went requested for the policy doc to be send to me. To my horror, only 5 person in the trip were mentioned in the policy paper. 1 person is missed out ! When i checked with jetstar, they said i have made payment and there shld not be any problem with my insurance. But the insurance details , i will need to check with AIG. I called AIG , they said they only received application for 5 persons and what went missing during my applications is not within their control and does assume no responsiblity to the missing insurance cover. I send them the itineray, with 6 person name.. and they shld at least tell me that 1 of them is not cover as per my itinerary, instead of i finding out myself. 1) they didnt give me the policy promptly when i first bought 2) when ask on the policy, they didnt advise that the policy is not the same as my itinerary 3) my address in the policy is wrong. *Gosh*... what irresponsible response from AIG ?!? Aniway, i am asking them if they could cancelled the entire cover as i feel that they process is not clear and fail my expectation. They are not willing to cancel.. and now i am waiting for the CS to bring this up for review. This is total crap..

  11. From the page - https://www.facebook.com/SGCyclists?hc_location=stream ACCIDENT near Changi Village, outside Changi Air Base West Gate, on 28 May 2013 at about 10.30pm. Was having late dinner with family at Changi Village at about the same time as a group of cycling enthusiasts. The whole group was taking a break at the same makan place. They left several minutes earlier before we did. Just after we passed the Hindu Temple and approaching the Church (see Point A), we saw a smaller group of the cyclist guiding traffic and rendering whatever assistance they could to one of their fellow cyclist who was already on the pavement receiving first aid treatment by a paramedic of an Air Force ambulance. One of the cyclist could be seen holding the hand of his peer while trying to comfort him. There was also another person, who looked more like a motorcycle rider, on the pavement being attended to by another uniformed medical personnel of the Air Base. We also saw a dislodged car bumper next to the centre divider. As we drove further, we saw another subgroup of the cyclist standing by a motorcycle lying on the road (see point B on the map). The cyclists were also diverting traffic by flashing their bike lights. Soon we reached the traffic junction of Loyang Avenue and Loyang Way (see point C on the map). We saw a bigger subgroup of the cyclists who formed a circle around a car and a man who looked like its driver. The front part of the car was badly damaged with the middle portion of the bonnet looked pushed in as a result of an impact with something. The front windscreen of the car was also almost shattered. The car had also no front bumper. The man encircled by the cyclist looked troubled. The cyclist helped regulate traffic using their bike lights. SCDF Ambulance and a Police car passed the junction as we left the last scene. Here is a map showing what probably happened tonight by putting all the jigsaws together. We pray that the two casualties survive this horrific accident. Latest Updates: Just gotten updates from the cyclists, there were no cyclist involved in the accident. The other person was the pillion on the motorbike. The cyclist group rendered assistance at all three accident points.

  15. A 60-day reprieve has breathed new life into a used car market that was badly hit by drastic loan curbs. TODAY's senior photojournalist Ernest Chua visited the used car mart at Turf City last week where bustling business returned, after sales slowed to a trickle following the curbs which took effect on February 26. On April 5, the Monetary Authority of Singapore said it was lifting loan curbs for 60 days for less than 7,000 used cars. The announcement came after several appeals from used-car dealers. With the authorities making clear that the period will not be extended, several used car dealers TODAY spoke to are making use of this window to clear their stock, before restructuring their business or getting out of the line for good. One of them, who only gave his name as Philip, said: "Now you see good business, but At the end of the grace period, you will see a lot of company downsizing and some are already preparing to close down." Another dealer, who just joined the industry two years ago, said he would most likely go back to his previous job as a property agent. According to the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association, about 30 per cent of the used cars which qualify for full loans were sold within the first week of lifting the loan curbs. 18. Recently redo v-Kool film for my Windsreen, they stain the radio bracket due to strong acidic washing solution (It whiten the grey color away with about 20 cent size spot). They offer a re-spray on the bracket from accessory shop. I wonder if the finishing will be smooth or coarse. Will the respray color be fading after a long perod due to hot sun at open car park then it becomes my own problem in future. The current finishing is smooth. Mind to advise it or has the similar experience? Perhaps I shall insist for a replacement of original radio bracket. It is estima 2010. Next Monay the manager will discuss with me on this matter. I hope that the spare part is not expensive then the company can afford the mistake for part replacement.
  19. Any bros watched this just now? For those haven't seen and intend to watch it later some how, be forewarned of what's about to be discussed A boomer going rogue? That's a super nightmare for any sitting US president and his merry men. Of course in this show it was portrayed that the sub was attacked after her CO & XO refused to carry out an authenticated order to launch nukes against Pakistan, which then led the officers and men on board to sail to an island paradise but with unfriendly folks to escape the hostile force/s. Oh did I mention that prior to being given order to launch the missiles they picked up a mysterious team of hard-nosed SEALs who apparently returned from a classified mission? The premier episode reminded me of a chilling sub movie Crimson Tide years back which I think like-minded bros would remember as well. Of course the story this time turned out to be something entirely different after the end of the 1st part. And launching a nuke against DC just to play chicken with 2 incoming Lancers (not Mitsubishis but made by Rockwell/Boeing hor [laugh] ) was the highlight of the show Well, it got me hooked and will definitely look forward to subsequent episodes. Oh did I also mention the gals are HOT???!!! [laugh]

  21. i am just trying my luck here, my car kenna bang by this stupid mercs driver last oct and now he flip his story, i need to look for witness who can help sustain my statement against his. scenario: (happened last oct 12th 2011 around 730pm) my car was idle behind yellow box at a 2 lane road. suddenly the mercs came from behind and bang into my car. as i was on reservist, hp was at home and i used my in car camera stored in my glove compartment to take picture (very poor quality pics). the guy already shifted his car and thus i also shifted to the side so as to not cause jam. he came down and apologize and say he willing to pay for damage. i took down his particulars and then left. then 6 mths later after i claim my own insurance first, his insurer came bk and say conflict of statement and only willing to pay 50%. i am so angry as i gave the guy a chance as i smell alcohol in him by not making police report, now he super good lo blur his insurance company. hope there is a kind witness who saw wat happened that day along woodlands ave 1 just before rosewood drive road.

  23. No wonder there are so many millionaires around Business Times - 28 Mar 2012 Nassim Park Residences subsale tops gains: Savills By KALPANA RASHIWALA THE most profitable subsale (in dollar terms) of 2011 generated a near $6.2 million profit. It involved a unit at Nassim Park Residences that was purchased in July 2008 for almost $18 million and sold in April last year for slightly over $24.1 million, according to Savills' analysis. Nassim Park Residences accounted for four of 2011's 10 most profitable deals, followed by The Trillium at Kim Seng Road and The Orchard Residences, with two deals each. In all, 62 subsales in 2011 generated a profit of $1 million or more. These included 10 units at The Orchard Residences and eight units each at Nassim Park Residences and Marina Bay Residences. Savills examined URA Realis caveats data for subsale deals and tried to find previous caveat records for the same units; where it found matches, it worked out the holding period for the subsales and the profit or loss. The latter was calculated as the difference between sale and purchase prices, and took into account the seller's stamp duty but not the standard buyer's stamp duty, agent fees and other expenses. In percentage terms, the two most profitable deals of the 2011 subsales involved two units at Southbank at North Bridge Road, which achieved returns of about 167 per cent and 142 per cent involving holding periods of 4.58 years and 4.75 years, respectively. The units were bought for $561,000 and $764,000 in 2006 and sold for $1.5 million and $1.85 million in January and April 2011, respectively. Percentage-wise, the biggest loss among 2011 subsales was 45.9 per cent, recorded by a unit of 527 sq ft at Fifty-Two Stevens. It was bought for $873,000 in March 2010 and disposed of in August 2011 for $472,500. The biggest absolute-dollar quantum subsale loss last year was about $1.3 million for a unit at The Cascadia in Bukit Timah. It was bought in Q4 2007 for about $7.3 million and sold in May last year for $6 million.
