  4. Anyone caught the season's final episode last night on cable last night? I remembered seeing the trailer before last night saying that 2 cops turned bad. 1 was Delco and the other was Horatio. The trailer actually showed Horatio asking Ivan if he had a god and then shooting Ivan at point blank while Ivan was on the ground beside the get away car. But last night's episode never show Horatio shooting him twice leh. Anyone discovered this???

  6. Hi all, Asking this for a friend. At the end of his in-camp, the CO announced that the unit will be mobilized on the Saturday after, i.e. outside the formal manning period. There was only like less than a day's notice. Can this actually be done? I mean, if they can do this, then what's the point of the manning period since they can jolly well mobilize the NSman any day they want. Comments?
  7. It was reported in the news.. Shin Ming Daily. A 4 star hotel in city experienced blackout, leading to the calling off of a wedding banquet. To summarise, the hotel experienced power failure at 530pm. Guests started coming at around 630pm, only to discover the wedding banquet was in darkness. Guests nonetheless still sat inside the banquet in darkness. However at 8pm, hotel staff informed the couple that they were unable to restore the electrical power, alternative arrangements were made for them to transfer to another hotel in the vicinity, assuring them that buffet dinner will be made for them. Upon arrival to the alternative hotel, the buffet wasn't ready. Instead, the guests were greeted with toasted bread, as the buffet food wasn't ready. It was only till 10+pm that the buffet was ready, however the food served was equivalent of a normal home buffet, with a budget of $10+/pax... I looked at the photos posted by Shin Ming daily... The buffet food was atrocious, a snapshot of the original hotel banquet venue was printed.. However, i wasn't able to identify the hotel nor the venue.. Does anyone know of the place? The management attributed to a power failure in the generator. The general manager for the hotel was uncontactable as he was overseas, according to Shin Ming.. Accordingly to Shin Ming, the couple had planned for a lavish 10 course Chinese sit down dinner.. any forumers know?
  8. :D Merry Christmas. After last 2 biddings where COE inched up, yet dealers reduced prices or maintain status quo, what is the likely outcome for Dec 2nd bid to end 2009?
  9. How to Make Your New Car Last Forever By Eric Peters The last thing you want to have to do when your car is finally paid off is start thinking about a new car--and another 5-year loan--again. The goal is to push the day of debt renewal off as far into the future as possible, maximizing the period of essentially free transportation and putting the hundreds of dollars you'd otherwise be spending on a monthly payment to better use. There's no reason why almost any late-model car or truck can't be counted on to last for 10 years or longer, and run reliably for well beyond 100,000 miles. Don't get suckered by the out-of-date notion that once the warranty runs out (or 5 years have rolled by), the end is near. The durability and reliability of modern cars is remarkable--provided they're treated decently. Decent treatment means: No abuse or excessively hard driving. When you first start the vehicle, do not race the engine. Accelerate gradually until the engine (and the rest of the drivetrain) has completely warmed up; that takes about 10-15 minutes of driving, depending on the outside temperature. Most engine wear occurs at cold start and during the first few minutes of operation. Revving a cold engine will greatly accelerate this wear and tear. If you have a truck and pull a trailer or haul heavy loads, it is especially important to take it easy until the engine's had a chance to warm up and the oil is circulating freely. Do not just start the vehicle and leave it idling in the driveway for more than a couple of minutes. Doing that is also bad for the engine, because idling does not heat it up quickly enough to burn off raw gas and other contaminants that can dilute the oil and reduce its ability to lubricate and protect internal parts. Simply get in, start the engine, and drive way at a measured pace, avoiding full-throttle starts or passing attempts until about 20 minutes have gone by. Lubricant levels and regular changes: It is critical to routinely check the engine oil and transmission fluid to assure they're at the proper level--and have these fluids changed (along with the filter) at least as often as recommended by the factory under "severe or heavy duty" conditions. Do not go by the "normal use" fluid- and filter-change intervals unless you live in a rural area and rarely experience stop-and-go driving or periods of prolonged idling (as in traffic jams). For most people, day-in, day-out driving conditions meet the factory definitions of "severe" service--yet many people assume that because they're not drag racing or otherwise abusing their vehicles, they can adhere to the so-called "normal use" recommendations. Often, the manufacturers at least tacitly endorse this false belief, because it makes the new cars they're trying to sell seem less expensive to maintain. However, it's far less expensive over the life of a vehicle to spend an extra $30-$50 annually on oil changes (and perhaps an extra $100-$150 every 2 years for a transmission flush and fluid/filter change) than it is to have to buy a new transmission--or a new car--as a result of poor maintenance The recommended change intervals for "severe or heavy duty" are typically half the "normal use" intervals (that is, 3 months or 3,000 miles vs. 6 months or 6,000 miles). Check your owner's manual: The actual time and mileage intervals for your specific vehicle can be found there. This small investment will reap large rewards over the life of your vehicle. Pay attention to what the factory says about maintenance. If the timing belt (on models so equipped) should be replaced at 50,000 miles, have it replaced at 50,000 miles--not at 70,000. If the factory says it's essential to flush the cooling system a minimum of every 3 years, do it--unless you want to pay for a new radiator (often a $500-plus part) because the old one was ruined by degraded or contaminated antifreeze. Any car with anti-lock brakes should have the entire system professionally "bled" (purged of old fluid) and refilled with new brake fluid at least every 3 years. Otherwise, you risk ruining the very expensive ABS pump, rotting the brake lines from the inside, and damaging the entire system. Brake fluid attracts moisture, and moisture in the brake system is lethal--but silent. Major damage will occur before you even realize it, and by then it's too late. A mistake many new-car buyers make is failing to read the owner's manual cover to cover--especially the chapters dealing with maintenance--and failing to follow its recommendations to the letter. You can pay now. Or you can pay much more, later. Be kind in extreme weather: If it's very hot or very cold outside, life is much harder on your car's engine and all of its mechanical components. Any excessive demands placed on your engine in such conditions can (and usually will) come back to haunt you down the road. Would you run a marathon in 100-degree weather? For the same reason, avoid driving at high speed--or worse, running the car at full tilt from one stop light to the next--if it is really hot or cold outside. Consider having auxiliary oil/transmission coolers installed, as well as switching to synthetic lubricants. Oil/transmission coolers lower the operating temperature of engine oil and transmission fluid, and that can greatly increase the longevity of your engine and transmission. The cost of having these parts installed will be about $200--a small investment given the over-the-road benefit. Ditto synthetic lubricants. Though more expensive than ordinary motor oil and transmission fluid (about $4 per quart vs. $1.50 or so for premium-quality non-synthetics), the benefits far outweigh the small initial cash outlay. Synthetics are vastly superior in terms of the protection they provide; they have superior resistance to extremes of temperature, better "flow rates" (lower viscosity) when cold, and better resistance to high heat conditions and extreme service. You can also extend change-out intervals when using synthetics, as well, which further reduces the actual cost.

  13. Today ST reported that the price of oil had dropped to US$34/- per barrel even after OPEC had agreed to drop daily production by 2.2 million per day from January 2009 ........ Prediction from expert that the oil would drop further to about US$20/- per barrel ...... KNN ....... our oil kartels still did not drop their pump prices since the last drop 2 weeks ago (around US$47/- per barrel)....... My tank is now slightly more than 1/4 tank and waiting for it to drop yesterday but no news of falling prices...... . Don't like the feeling after refuelling at old price in the morning and they adjust the pump price in the evening as I ever kana twice last month ..... Shell, Shell, Shell...... where are you? .... Why don't you start the ball rolling first ....

  15. There is speculation that BMW Sauber F1 will not compete next season. A press conference has been called for Wednesday for BMW's senior management to announce some news, possibly about its F1 participation. If indeed BMW withdraws, it will come as grave news for fans. This comes less than a year after Honda F1's withdrawal. Both manufacturers had high hopes for winning as constructors, but disappointingly both of them have only managed 1 race win each since their 2006 comeback. Hopefully the team will not disappear outright. Perhaps Peter Sauber can be persuaded to take back his team and run it as a Cosworth engined independent, like the 3 new entrants of 2010.
  16. Anyone know where to find prices of COE for the last 10yrs.. I need it to do some research on COE price, car population and congestion problems in SG... Pls advise....
  17. this weekend we will see F1 racing in UK Silverstone, home to the British Grand Prix however, in 2010, F1 (if it still exist) will be holding its races in Donington Park where? never mind... weather in UK reads: Though it will be foggy on Thursday, with an ambient temperature high of 17 degrees Celsius, it will brighten for the rest of the weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will each be partly cloudy but dry, with temperature highs respectively of 17, 20 and 19 degrees. The race will run over its usual 60 laps of the 5.141 kilometre (3.194 mile) circuit, or 308.355 kilometres (191.600 miles) personally, i think JB will be running the show (again) at Silverstone. although i reckon he may not start from the pole, because teams like RBR and Ferrari may use a light fuel for Q3 to have a good race start JB will still managed to sneak a win in front of his home crowd. he will be fired up to show the UK people that in all the previous years with a BAD car, he's not a bad driver at all. everyone wrote him off late last year when Honda pulled out... but this sat and sun i'm sure the majority of the crowd will endear to their new British racing hero at the fore, and it's not Hamilton in 2009. wat a year makes.... schedule: FRI Practice 1 17:00 FRI Practice 2 21:00 SAT Practice 17:00 SAT Qualifying 20:00 SUN Race 20:00 Silverstone is famous for its high-speed layout, particularly the first half of the lap, which includes one of the finest sequences of corners of any track in the world. Its high-speed nature means the British circuit is tough for tyres and engines, as the drivers will not touch the brakes at any stage during the first half of the lap. Corners range from 180mph sweepers to the long, slow complex at the end of the lap. The car must also cope with the bumpy surface and capricious, gusting winds that always affect the former airfield.
  18. This is a true story. There was this cat residing at my parent's block void deck which me and my sisters adore. He was juz a stray but his fondness of ppl juz grew into us. We call it Socks coz of his white paws and rest of the body is mainly black. Socks was responsive to anyone and would brush against our legs upon meeting us. Last July, Socks suddenly disappeared. And so we tot his time was up. We said our prayers silently and would always miss the fella ard. I got married the folowing mth and moved out of my parents' place. Yesterday nite, he came back albeit a much thinner Socks. But it is still him. He dove to our feet along with meows of happiness the same way he usually did last time. My emotions were filled to the brim and i found a video that could describe my true emotions for Socks... Touching Video
  19. It's over. My Holidays. My time to detail cars have temporarily been reduced. Since i've been addicted to 501 and 521 the past 2 weeks. I decided to let 105 comeback today! 20. Hi bros and siss, I was travelling on the ECP towards City today, and saw a driver (ok, it was a lady, but that's another topic altogether) who stopped in the leftmost lane (not the breakdown lane) just at the ERP gantry at 9.29am. There also seem to be a few cars happy to keep behind her... It is interesting what people would resort to for 50 cents. And it got me thinking, would drivers behave this way if the 50 cents went to charity? So, I was thinking if it was a good idea to suggest this to LTA... For the last 5 minutes (50 cents) of all ERP charges, donate the collection to charity. It would only be a small fraction of their collections, proceeds will go to a good cause, (perhaps) drivers will be more willing to go through during that period and not slowing down / stopping... and probably making roads safer! Thus the reason for my poll...
  21. ... at the bottom of the page. I think this is quite annoying as I have to scroll up all the way to see the first post. Not that much of an issue but hopefully this can be sorted out. I do apologize if this issue has been brought up before.
  22. Fire Evacuation Drill : Beware, It Might Be Your Last Big companies and offices in high rise building often conduct 'Fire Evacuation Drill' once a while to get it staff to familarise with the fire safety ....... But with the recent recession, this drills might be your last drill ....... Subject: Last Evacuation Drill In a large multinational company.............. A fire alarm rang at 4 pm in a large office when almost all employees were in office (approx 5000). As usual the entire office was evacuated within 3 mins & all employees gathered outside the office in the designated area, waiting for further announcement. The Security Officer in charge made the following announcement: "Dear employees - with sincere regret I have been asked to announce that for many of you it will be your last evacuation drill. Due to the recession, the company is laying off almost 50% of its employees. So when this announcement finishes, I ask all of you to move back into the building and if your swipe card does not work then it means you have been laid off in which case you will not be allowed inside and all your belongings will be couriered to you by tomorrow. The Company has used this innovative approach as we didn't want to fill up the email box with lay-off mails and good bye mails in thousands & also to avoid any fight inside the office and the consequent security issue for all staff. Hope you have had a rewarding career with us and all the best ahead. Please move back in & try your luck. Thank you". So, if the fire drill is activated, please double checks before leaving the building .......
