  1. Singer Ramli Sarip the target of racist comments for ‘funeral’ version of Singapore’s national anthem 'Majulah Singapura' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALRSqIc5qHM Wad are ur thoughts? Like funeral song or not? i dun understand wad's racist abt it... Rocker Datuk Ramli Sarip’s rendition of Singapore’s national anthem Majulah Singapura is not going down well with his fellow countrymen. The 66-year-old rock star beloved here and and at home across the Causeway, also known as “Papa Rock” and “Malaysia’s King of Rock”, recently belted out a more sombre version of the song during rehearsals for the National Day Parade that drew ire from Singaporeans on popular tech forum HardwareZone. Several users criticised his singing skills and dished out racist remarks in their scathing reviews of his performance. “if you are singing it this way, we might as well half-mast the flag,” wrote darksiedluv. “Limpei (slang for referring to oneself in a superior manner) can sing national anthem better than this Malay ahpek,” said Rainowar. “Why is he singing like it’s some praying song in a mosque?” wrote testart. A number of users claim that Ramli should be arrested for violating the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem Act by performing a “funeral-like” arrangement of the song. However, others came to the rocker’s defense saying that downtempo rearrangements of Majulah Singapura were not new and were previously well-received by the public, citing an acapella version by The Apex Project and a heartfelt rendition by singer Priscilla Chan as evidence. Ramli who is credited as one of the founders of Singapore’s rock scene, was frontman and lead singer of the rock group Sweet Charity until 1986.

  11. The government's latest Town Council Management Report cardgave its sole “red” grade to Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council in the category of collecting service and conservancy charges (S&CC). The three-constituency town council, run by the opposition Workers' Party, was slapped with the red banding because "more than 5 per cent of their households had S&CC arrears overdue for three months or more," read the report. "Also, more than 50 per cent of their monthly S&CC collectible are overdue for three months or more,” it added. It also showed a white "pending" field under corporate governance, a phenomenon that, like the town council's "red" banding, occurred in the Ministry of National Development (MND)'s last report as well. The report, released Thursday at noon, measured the performance of Singapore's 15 town councils in the year ending March 2013 — contrary to four previous versions of the report, which graded the town councils' performance on a half-yearly basis. The town councils were measured for cleanliness, maintenance, lift performance, service and conservancy charge arrears and corporate governance. All the town councils scored "green" bandings for cleanliness and lift performance, but nine were banded "amber" for maintenance. These nine apart from the AHPETC were: Chua Chu Kang, East Coast, Holland-Bukit Panjang, Jurong, Marine Parade, Pasir Ris-Punggol, Tampines and West Coast. Potong Pasir Town Council was also given an "amber" banding for its conservancy charge arrears management. Yahoo Singapore has asked the Workers' Party town council management for their comments on the report's findings and is awaiting the response. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/town-council-run-by-workers--party-gets--red--grade-for-conservancy-arrears-in-govt-report-050611452.html
  12. I watched the movie at Cathay. Totally rocks man. one of the best films this year. A must watch for petrol head. Though I follow F1, the excitement of present day F1 is nowhere near that of the 70s and 80s. I have great admiration for Niki lauda. I wouldn't have survived a metal rod entering my throat! Spoiler alert. Overall. I give it 9 out of 10. Might just knock Pacific rim out of my favorite movie of the year. But hard to compare also la. One is on true story. the other is robot fantasy

Wondering if anyone on MCF is driving one and what it's like to drive on a long term basis (I intend to keep the next car for at least 5-7 years)? Thanks.

  20. This is really bad.... http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1244331/1/.html even channelnewsasia reported the story. Bottomline is PAP Town councils SOLD their computer system for $140000 to aim and promised to Pay Aim a Monthly Fee of $785 per town council to use their software. There are so many red flags that I am really worried for Singapore 1) There is only ONE BIDDER in the entire tender, Quote from CNA "Dr Teo said although five companies collected the tender agreement, the sole bid was submitted by AIM, a company fully owned by the P A P. " 2) sold for $140 000? what are they smoking? how much did they spend to develop that software? My brother has a startup that makes encryption software for cloud computing and I tell you, $140k is not going last very long. 3) $785 monthly fee per TC? with 14 PAP TCs that works out to $131880 a year! Sold their software for $140k and lease it back at $132k a year??? This is totally ridiculous. 4) How many Employees does Aim has? What is their contact number? They don't even have an address. Did they do ANYTHING at all? This is really bad... if PAP does not get to the bottom of this....

  22. Hi All My Note 2 was upgraded to latest software last week. One of the most obvious changes was this blue tab (semi circle) on the left side of the screen which is like a drawer u can pull out to quickly access a few apps. These apps don't appear to be configurable and in any case i don't need this feature as my Home Screen already has most of the short cuts. So its quite redundant. The blue tab appears and disappears every now and then. And i am not sure what triggers it. Another problem with this blue tab is that is the top level item on display, meaning that it overlaps everything in the screen. So if u're reading an article or email, the word that falls in the same space of the tab cannot be seen. Or if u're looking at a picture then the part of the picture cannot be seen as it is covered by this tab. I find it very irritating and would like to remove it but cannot find it in any of the settings. Anyone else has this blue tab and knows how to remove it? TIA.
