Then reports of a potential privateer racing model trickled out a few months later. Now, word from across the pond is that McLaren Automotive is planning on squeezing an extra couple of seats into the MP4-12C to make it a proper 2+2. With an enlarged cabin, the 2+2 would be the first four-seater to roll out of Woking

  13. Finally it has happened. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76292 FOTA teams to launch breakaway series By jonathan noble Thursday, June 18th 2009, 22:43 GMT FOTAThe Formula One Teams' Association announced on Thursday night that it is setting up a breakaway championship. Following a four hour meeting at Renault's Enstone factory, the eight members of FOTA - Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW, Toyota, Brawn, Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso - said they had grown frustrated with the FIA's stance against the organisation, and had no option but to create a series of their own. "The teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship," said a statement issued by FOTA after the meeting. "These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders. "The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series." F1 teams were given until Friday evening to remove the conditions attached to the provisional entries they posted earlier this month, or risk being left off the grid in 2010. FIA president Max Mosley wrote to the teams yesterday offering them some of the concessions that they wanted to see regarding governance of the sport, but made it clear that he was sticking to plans for the introduction of a budget cap. In his letter, Mosley also urged the teams to sign up to the championship before sorting out the final version of the regulations and a redrafted Concorde Agreement. In response to that letter, the teams met at Renault's Enstone headquarters on Thursday evening for lengthy talks, where they finally decided that there was no way a compromise deal could be reached with the FIA. The teams expressed frustration that their efforts to try and improve F1 had been rebuffed by the governing body and the sport's commercial rights holder. "Since the formation of FOTA last September the teams have worked together and sought to engage the FIA and commercial rights holder, to develop and improve the sport," said the statement. "Unprecedented worldwide financial turmoil has inevitably placed great challenges before the F1 community. FOTA is proud that it has achieved the most substantial measures to reduce costs in the history of our sport. "In particular the manufacturer teams have provided assistance to the independent teams, a number of which would probably not be in the sport today without the FOTA initiatives. The FOTA teams have further agreed upon a substantial voluntary cost reduction that provides a sustainable model for the future. "Following these efforts all the teams have confirmed to the FIA and the commercial rights holder that they are willing to commit until the end of 2012. "The FIA and the commercial rights holder have campaigned to divide FOTA. "The wishes of the majority of the teams are ignored. Furthermore, tens of millions of dollars have been withheld from many teams by the commercial rights holder, going back as far as 2006. Despite this and the uncompromising environment, FOTA has genuinely sought compromise." The announcement by FOTA looks certain to overshadow the British Grand Prix, which takes place at Silverstone for the final time this weekend and which Mosley is expected to attend tomorrow. With FOTA's stance now seemingly leaving no room for a deal possible, its likely that more new teams will be added to the FIA's 2010 Formula 1 entry list. The inclusion of Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso on that roster remains open to debate, however, with the FIA claiming that the teams committed themselves to F1 in a deal agreed several years ago.

  22. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp.../333185/1/.html Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn said on Wednesday that Nissan would launch an electric car in the United States in 2010, which would be introduced to the global market by both brands two years later. "Nissan is working on an electric vehicle which will be launched in the US in 2010," Ghosn told journalists on the sidelines of the Geneva Auto Show. He said new legislation in California aimed at cutting CO2 emissions gave extra impetus to research into alternative energy sources and products. Renault and Nissan will work together on electric technology, but with "different applications as the car will not be identical" under the two different brands, Ghosn said. "We will target different markets according to the brands," with Europe a priority for Renault while Nissan will focus on Japan and China, he said. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Expecting will not be coming cheap, nevertheless, with the roaring crude oil price keep moving up north + the world are promoting protect the global warming and environment, believe it will be looking forward by many keen buyers.
  23. Nissan hopes to launch 2,500 dollar car in India in 2010 Nissan and Renault hope to start selling a car for about 2,500 dollars in India in around 2010 along with their local partner there, chief executive Carlos Ghosn said Wednesday. "We have already practically decided all the attributes of the car," Ghosn told reporters at the Tokyo Motor Show. "We have the full intention to do it -- if it's feasible. Hopefully this is going to be 2010 in India," he said. Ghosn, who heads both Japan's Nissan Motor Co. and its French partner Renault, said he would visit Indian partner Bajaj Auto next week for talks on the car. He said that it appeared possible to make a 2,500-dollar car for India, but the big question was whether it could be exported to other markets such as Europe, China, Brazil, Mexico or even the United States. "But the first step is to make it for India and to make it competitive," he added. The car will be mostly produced by Indian partner Bajaj with the support of the Nissan-Renault alliance, Ghosn added. The world's automakers are increasingly setting their sights on India, which is one of the world's fastest growing automobile markets. Indian automaker Tata Motors plans to introduce its own 3,000-dollar car in its home market next year. Ghosn also said Nissan hoped to start mass marketing electric cars by 2012 in response to growing worries about global warming. "We see already in some large cities people are turning against cars," said Ghosn, adding that simply cutting emissions by 20 or 30 percent was not enough as people would switch to alternative forms of transportation.
  24. Anyone know the launch date for this service? Heard from the sales person at Harvey Norman that it should be somewhere in December this year. Don't know true or not.
