  1. hi all, me bought Hyundai Verna 1.6A in May last year, then past 1 yr plus no prob except not much power and high fc. then abt 20 days ago, aircon got hot air, and could hear 'water gushing around' type of sound in bonnet. after car cooled down at night, opened radiator to see and had to top up ~3.5 litre of water before it was full!! next day drove to workshop but after checking half day told me can't find any leak and told me monitor first... for a week, i everyday checked radiator water level twice and always full. my mech laughed, so i didn't bother anymore. Then yest on way home, heard funny sound and later going into basement carpark could feel car vibrating and hear like got water boiling and streaming through narrow pipe... slowly parked and 2 hr later, went check again and had to top up abt 2.7 litre of water. this morning before went work, initially checked ok, but after car moved off, could hear water gushing sound again, then when stopped and opened radiator again, could pour in another about 600 ml... Then this afternoon, and at night after work, both times still full... anyone knows what could be the problem and what could be the solution? tks....
  2. Before anyone asks, not me. But someone I know personally. And would like to see whether my opinion coincides with everyone else's. Will reveal my opinion at a later time so as not to influence perspectives of replies. :) Info is as accurate as I can rem. Let's assume I didn't rem wrongly. My question is right at the end. Personal stats: - Male - Age: 30 - Married - Singaporean Academic background: - Top AU uni education - Undergrad finance - Masters in Economics - Both 2nd Upper Hons - Five years overseas - Straight A student from poly onwards Personality: - Very well-spoken in English. Very. Extremely eloquent - Very knowledgeable. Professional experience (total 3 years of work experience) - most recent placed last - {Starting after grad) 1.5 years entrepreneurial experience (partnership that closed), then... - 1 year in managerial position in govt, then finally... - 0.5 years in sales in financial services Here comes the question. He recently was headhunted and offered a job at a US MNC here in Singapore. He was offered >$5,500/mth. It's a contracts management job (managing and supporting creation of contracts for deals by the company). Does his background and credentials match the offer? Yes or No, and why. As mentioned, I'll reveal my own opinion after you guys offered yours. Thanks guys! Just a non-serious discussion la. He's a very close friend of mine. Like a brother. And I feel he's a very talented person with big things yet to achieve. And I feel for him sometimes, but a little guilty that some of my recommendations to him didn't pan out for him cos I really want him to do well. So I wanna know whether I have a biased opinion or not. And he also asked me that question.

  4. WTF is this Muhammad blabbering abt? 9 A is the strength of our nation and brillance?? ------------------ 9 As the new A-level goal? by Muhammad Haziq Jani 04:46 AM Mar 06, 2012 Nine As is a spectacular feat - one that involves the solid purpose and endeavour of the student, the teachers, the schools and the parents. Nine is more than the number of subjects I took for my A-levels. Nine is the number to beat, the new "quota", the new symbol of intelligence and the new dream for generations to come until a brilliant mind sets a new record. There are students who find it challenging to get even one distinction, for which there are many reasons. These range from a difference in learning style to the unfortunate disadvantage of socio-economic capital, either from being unable to afford expensive tutors or not having a strong education background. The advantaged may even have access to "pre-pre-school" education. From this perspective, our education system, though flawless in its ability to churn out talents, contains inequalities that some brush off as excuses of the reluctant or the lazy. Yet, the beauty of our society is that in order to prove that the system is meritocratic and that everyone stands a chance, everyone plays by the rules. The socio-economic underdogs strive for excellence to be working-class heroes, the teachers encourage the difficult yet courageously eager, and parents enforce the ideology that distinctions equate to success. Schools provide concessions and awards to those who achieve and those who show improvement. We give consent to having our abilities judged by the major examinations, and we have therefore given consent to the system. There are people who are successful without topping the system or conforming to its rules. Yet, everyone believes or has no choice but to believe that by playing by the rules, they will get a better job, pay and future. There is no coercion, no robbing of rights, and the rewards are real and achievable. Nine As shows the strength of our national ideas; nine is our nation's pride and brilliance, the product of our system. Yet, nine is also what we have made our future students strive for, and for our next generation, the sky is that much higher to touch. The writer is a local undergraduate.
  5. Several thousand junior and mid-level civil servants will see their pay rise between 5 and 15 per cent this month - and more could enjoy similar increases after their salary reviews are completed. The two groups getting pay rises are: Graduate officers in the lower and middle rungs of the management executive scheme who earn between $3,000 and $10,000. They work in policy development and implementation, corporate services and operations. Non-graduate officers in the lower and middle rungs of the management support scheme whose pay starts at $1,600. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_763834.html What recession?

  9. looks like better than nothing. but wonder how strict and how hard they will examine the qualifications and experience. let's wait and see. ----- Higher pay threshold for entry & mid-level foreign execs By S Ramesh | Posted: 16 August 2011 1422 hrs SINGAPORE: The Manpower Ministry (MOM) has announced details of the enhancements to the Employment Pass framework which will take effect from 1 January 2012. The ministry said the demand for Employment Pass has increased rapidly since the economic recovery in 2010, and it's likely to keep growing. It is introducing measures which will tighten the eligibility requirements for those entering the lower and mid-level professional and skilled jobs. The ministry added that the move will also ensure that as the salary of local workers rise, they would not be disadvantaged by Employment Pass holders who are coming in at lower wages. A key change will be to the Q1 pass. The ministry said it is tightening the educational qualifying requirements so that only those from good quality institutions will be eligible. It is also moving away from the single qualifying salary of $2,800. Instead, the applicant will have to earn at least $3,000 and the ministry will also look at his qualification and experience. For P2 pass holders, the qualifying salary will go up from the current $4,000 to $4,500. There will be no change in the qualifying salary for P1 pass holders, which will remain as $8,000. As for existing Employment Pass holders, the ministry will phase in the new requirements over the next 1 to 2 years, depending on when their current passes expire. This is to give businesses time to make necessary adjustments. For example, existing Employment Pass holders whose passes expire before 1 Jan 2012 will receive a one-time renewal of up to 2 years, based on the pre-July 2011 Employment Pass criteria. For those whose passes expire between 1 Jan 2012 and 30 June 2012, they will get a one-time renewal of up to a year, while those whose passes expire on or after 1 July 2012, will be subject to the new Employment Pass criteria. - CNA /ls

  15. I've been scouring the interweb and haven't really been able to find an answer... Does anyone know what is the minimum octane level usable for the Daihatsu Copen? 95 or 98? Also as its a turbo (albeit a tiny 660cc), does that mean that I should stick to w50 engine oil? (urban driving only, no NSH). TIA.
  16. hi dear Skoddie bros I seek your kind advice. The "check oil level" warning light kept showing up recently in our Spb1, which the workshop checked and checked and found nothing. What could be the possible reasons since they checked the oil and everything and found seemingly nothing? blessings and much gratitude,
  17. Mercedes-Benz is diligently trying to attract new, younger customers to its AMG performance line, and one giant step forward might be the introduction of a new small coupe, set to rival small performers such as the Volkswagen Golf R, BMW 1-Series, and so on. A report from Autocar states that this rumored new AMG coupe would be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four with direct injection, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine may produce as much as 300 horsepower, putting the AMG coupe right in line with the competitive set. Fuel-efficient technologies like brake energy regeneration, stop-start and a shift indicator lamp are likely to make their way into this new model, and all-wheel drive isn't out of the question, either.
  18. Hi guys, Was checking my lancer just not and discovered that my coolant level is somewhere near the low level. It is normal to drop till so fast? 21. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...426860/1/.html SMRT's train frequency to be reduced if flu alert hits red By Kheng Siong & Lynda Hong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 04 May 2009 2123 hrs SINGAPORE: SMRT said train frequency will be reduced by 30 per cent once Singapore's pandemic alert level hits red. This is because its service staff are divided into two teams to prevent the potential spread of the H1N1 virus. -------- reduced by 30 per cent = MRTs more packed = More chances of the virus spreading = WTF?
  22. Who has the highest Warn(ing) level? Is it me ? Is it me? hehehe
  23. I'm not into tracking, but dry/wet roadholding is paramount, with reasonable noise level (not so loud as to drown out normal conversation at NSH speed) and comfort taking 2rd place. I'm currently on Goodyear F1 235/40/18 but found both dry and wet (maybe because tyres has already passed half life) to be compromised. After some measured deliberation, I have narrowed down my choices to 3 tyres: 1) Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2) Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 3) Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position Prices does vary a fair bit, but I'm willing to pay if the benefits are truly worthwhile. Your assessment?
  24. I hope this is the right place to post this question. I realized that there is a WARN: (0%) with 5 grey bars found underneath of my Avatar. This seems like a good feature to warn errant user, who violates the forum polices such as names calling. Would we be able to see the status of the warning level of other users too? In addition, how do we know whether a user has been suspended or warned and for what reason? Thank you. Regards,
