  1. At first glance, this undisguised prototype might look like a normal Lexus RX350 sport utility vehicle. However, after close examination, it becomes apparent that there are some significant differences. The light colored vertical stripe just forward of the front doors indicates that the front end has been lengthened an inch or two. The ends of the front bumpers are modified and covered with tape, as are the lower parts of the rear doors. The rear bumper has also been cut away slightly just aft of the rear wheels. All these changes indicate the body has been modified to make the vehicle slightly longer, and to adapt to a slight relocation of both front and rear axles. Now notice that the tail lights don

  5. Lexus' V10-engined sportscar is close to a production reality The give-away was the Lexus LF-A's regular appearances in concept form at international motor shows from Paris to Sydney. Now, the suspicions have been confirmed, Lexus is going into the supercar business for real. And the car that Toyota's flagship brand will launch (perhaps as early as next year Down Under) is captured here as a thinly disguised pre-production tester -- courtesy of our sleep-deprived friends at Carparazzi. Not all that far removed from the concept car (more here), the production LF-A will have different headlights, an additional leading slot and louvres in the bonnet and what appears to be an automatically retracting rear spoiler. The intake behind the doors also appears to have been modified for production. Two rising strakes in the doors lead into the intake and are matched to a trailing extraction vent in the front quarter panel and trailing sculpture line in the lower leading section of the door. Sources suggest the V10 engine is based on the same architecture Toyota uses in its F1 cars -- though anyone close to F1 will say this is more marketing speak than engineering actuality. Nonetheless, in road-going trim the powerplant is expected to develop over 370kW (500hp). Despite the rear mesh inserts below the tail lights, the car is definitely front-engined. Lexus sources insist the car will be finely balanced for optimum dynamics. And the latest news is the LF-A will likely be offered with in a powered folding metal roof version. Competitors will likely be the Mercedes SL65 AMG, Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F430 and Aston Martin DB9. The LF-A broke cover around the same time as Lexus announced they would be branching out into high performance variants which will be badged 'F', as an answer to Audi's 'S' and BMW's 'M' models. 'F' is for Fuji Speedway, the place where Lexus is permitted to carry out all high speed testing of the company

  9. LONDON - AN ADVERT for a 4x4 car broke rules by stating the vehicle had 'low emissions', Britain's advertising standards watchdog said. The headline on a Lexus advert for a hybrid sports utility vehicle (SUV) said: 'High performance. Low emissions. Zero guilt.' Further description said the 4x4 car had 'category-leading low CO2 emissions' at 192g/km. The advert implied the car's emission rate was low compared to all other cars not just other SUVs, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said. It said Lexus had breached rules relating to truthfulness, comparisons and environmental claims. The ASA said readers would infer from the ad's headline that: '... the car caused little or no harm to the environment, which was not the case, and had low emissions in comparison with all cars, which was also not the case.' It told Lexus not to make similar claims in future if they could not be backed up. Lexus said it had meant to compare the CO2 emissions of its RX 400h SUV - which costs around 40,000 pounds (S$121,070) - to those of other SUVs rather than all cars. 'We weren't trying to be misleading and any changes that are needed, we will certainly make,' a Lexus spokesman said. 'It wasn't that we were trying to make a claim that was unsustainable. The car has low emissions compared to, say, a Land Rover or another 4x4. That is the message we were trying to communicate.' -- REUTERS, obtained from ST
  10. Dear expert, How do you add additional sub to a Mark levinson(14 speakers) system on a lexus IS250? I got a crazy friend who likes 'killer bass' to his music. And he is looking to add one hugh sub to his boot to UP the bass level on those disco/techno music, he listens to. The marklevison may be tuned more for total music refinement, so the bass is still short of Boom Boom shake the room kind. Any one with experiences? (Please don't ask him to change the entire system or to change another car.)
  11. From far it does look pretty similar but .... which parts of the anatomy you think is similar .... why do you think Lexus (or toyota) would go all through all these trouble to look a bit similar ... I think I need a new pair of spectacles ....

  21. Think straight, because the 4-letter F-word is "FAST". ================================================================================ ==== By MARK RECHTIN | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 12/04/06, 8:01 am et "LOS ANGELES - Lexus will launch a performance brand in late 2007 to compete with Mercedes' AMG and BMW's M divisions. Lexus will start with an IS sedan equipped with a 425-hp, 5.0-liter V-8. The engine is a retuned version of the LS 600h L hybrid's engine, dealer sources said. The sedan will be called the IS-F. It will debut at the Detroit auto show in January. Lexus likely will carry that nomenclature into other high-performance Lexus vehicles, a dealer said. He said a GS-F sedan and IS-F coupe likely will follow. The IS-F - "F" as in "fast" - will go on sale in December 2007 and sticker in the low $50,000 range, sources said. Lexus told dealers of the plans at a recent national meeting. Toyota Motor Co. filed for a trademark for "IS-F" on Nov. 8 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It also filed for a trademark for a stylized "F" logo on Oct. 9. A dealer source said Yamaha is tuning the IS-F engine's heads for more power. Brembo will be the brake supplier. Lexus declined to comment. "
  22. Looking at these 2 secondhand cars.. IS200 - RWD - 2L - More parts available, toyota. - Old model. Abit boxy. S40 - FWD - 2.4L (road tax will be crazy...2.2k) - More expensive maintaince. - Current model. - REAL conti car. Both cars, 2004 models are going ard the 70+k range, with depreciation of about 7k. What do you guys think? Which is a better buy for me? I'm in my mid-20s, stable job with a budget of around 70k, don't want to spend too much on the car. Not looking to mod it any further too. Space is not an issue. Only have myself and parents to fetch around occasionally. Thanks for your comments guys!!
