  3. Seems like after the NK old man kaput, the knives are out between his two offsprings. My guess is when the old man was still around, relationship between the sons was at best frosty and after he meets his maker, it is open warfare now. Given how things are heading, the big bro who was the old man's original choice is not likely to exert any influence back home since fatty has been promoted relentlessly as the superb successor by his backers. Still interesting to see such events unfolding though... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1177331/1/.html Kim brother says N.Korea heading for collapse Posted: 17 January 2012 1619 hrs TOKYO: The eldest brother of North Korea's new leader says reforms needed to avert the collapse of the country's economy will lead to the end of its Stalinist regime, according to a book to be published this week. Kim Jong-Nam, the half brother of Kim Jong-Un who took control of the hermit state on the death of their father last month, says the military has become so powerful it will step in and take over. The comments come in a book by Yoji Gomi, a Japanese journalist who says he built a relationship with Jong-Nam after the pair met in Beijing in 2004. "My father Kim Jong-Il and Me" will be published in Japan by Bungeishunju on Friday. "North Korea is very unstable," Jong-Nam told Gomi, who interviewed him at length in the Chinese territory of Macau last year. "My father governed the country with the backing of the military, but the power of the military has become too strong," he said in Korean. "If the succession ends in failure, the military will wield the real power for sure." In the book, based on email exchanges and interviews, Jong-Nam says North Korea's troubled state-managed economy presented the regime with a dilemma. "It is obvious that (the) economy will collapse without reforms, but the reforms will lead to a crisis of the collapse of the regime," Jong-Nam said in the interview carried out before the death of his father Kim Jong-Il on December 17. He also claimed that his inexperienced brother Jong-Un was likely to be merely a symbol used by ruling elites to maintain their grip on power. "Anyone with normal thinking would find it difficult to tolerate three generations of hereditary succession," he said an email, which Gomi says was sent on January 3. "I question how a young heir with two years (of training as a successor) would be able to inherit... absolute power," he said. "It is likely that the existing power elites will succeed my father by keeping the young successor as a symbol." Jong-Nam has lived in virtual exile in China for many years after falling out of favour with his father, who in turn inherited the rule of the impoverished country from his own father. Two years ago and with his health rapidly deteriorating, Kim Jong-Il moved Jong-Un -- believed to be in his late 20s -- into the position of designated successor, giving him military posts and raising his profile. Jong-Nam did not directly respond to questions over whether he attended the elaborate funeral and memorial ceremony for his father, but Japanese media have said he visited Pyongyang after learning about his father's death. Gomi said Jong-Nam may still take the reins of power in the secretive state with the backing of Beijing, which frets that a collapse in the regime could send millions of starving North Koreans over its border and create nuclear havoc on the peninsula. "He has been protected by the Chinese side," said Gomi, a senior staff writer at the Tokyo Shimbun who was previously based in Beijing and in Seoul. "If the Jong-Un regime collapses, (China) appears to be planning to send him to Pyongyang and make him become the next leader," he said. Gomi said he had decided to go ahead with publishing the book despite requests from Jong-Nam for a delay. - AFP/cc

  7. Kana at car park. This morning notice a long scratch of around 15-20cm x 2cm wide on right corner of front bumper. I guess whoever is turning out of the lot or reversing in didn't judge properly and brush against my bumper. I guess its time to accumulate the scratches and then go for respray. That car is probably dark colour cause the paint marks are greyish in colour.
  8. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_735333.html By Aaron Low Singapore's households are at their wealthiest, boosted by rising property prices, a report released by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) stated on Friday. Household wealth stood at a record high of $1.471 trillion in the three months to September, up 8.6 per cent from $1.354 trillion in the same period in 2010, said the central bank. Property made up about 50.2 per cent of the household assets, while cash, Central Provident Fund balances, stocks and shares, as well as insurance, formed the other half of households' assets. Companies and banks were also in the pink of health, with good profits, a strong base of funding and healthy balance sheets.

  12. My fren recently took a SQ flight to London Heathrow. He checked in his suitcase at T3, and hand-carried his guitar (in a solf guitar 'bag'). Just before boarding the plane, the xiao mei mei in kebaya told him to turn back and 'surrender' his guitar+bag to the boarding counter so that it can be placed somewhere else on the plane instead of following my fren to the cabin. My fren has travelled between UK / SIN many times before, hand-carrying his guitar, so he told the xiao mei mei so and asked her to let him bring the GTR into the cabin. But the XMM rejected his request. My fren LL and reluctantly handed over the guitar but made it clear to XMM+ground crew that it's a fragile item and they must take care of it, and the ground crew stuck a few 'FRAGILE' stickers on the GTR bag and took it away from my fren. .......15 hours later at Heathrow baggage claim convery belt, my fren picked up the GTR bag but found the guitar in two pieces!!! As the flight's arrival at Heathrow was delayed, and my fren needed to rush to catch the coach to bring him to another town, he rushed off with the broken GTR to catch the coach which was about to leave the airport. My take: Before the flight took off from TS, the ground crew recognised+acknowledged that the GTR bag needed the "FRAGILE" stickers for obvious reason. Somewhere between T3 and Heathrow Airport (London) the GTR was damaged. SIA should take responsibility for the damage. Whether SIA goes after T3 cargo handling team or Heathrow cargo handling team is a matter between these three parties, my fren should be compensated by SIA as the unfortunate incident happened on a SQ flight. However, SIA will put up a defence: there's no proof that the GTR was damaged between TS and Heathrow, it could have been damaged after it left the conveyor belt at Heathrow!! It's my fren's words against SIA/TS/Heathrow's..... (too bad he didnt report the damage at Heathrow before leaving the baggage claim area) Conclusion: No case What do you think??
  13. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_625787.html THE man dubbed Singapore's Edison Chen was sentenced to 50 months' jail and fined $20,000 on Wednesday for a series of offences. Chen Guilin alias Gary Ng, 28, had admitted to having 507 obscene films, mostly of himself having sex with other women. Some of the women were willing parties for the filming while others were not. He had hidden a video camera in a plastic bag with a slit to film his acts and uploaded some on the Internet. The former property agent had also pleaded guilty to four charges of forgery and one count each of housebreaking and theft, criminal breach of trust and unlawfully having another person's identity card. He committed a total of 21 offences from 2006 to June last year involving property worth $171,770. The prosecution had earlier urged the court to impose a heavy fine and at least four years' jail in view of the severe aggravating factors. Deputy Public Prosecutor Paul Wong said Chen was a recalcitrant offender, and that all the offences were dishonest involving pre-planning and scheming. Chen's lawyer Savliwala Din had told the court in mitigation that his client made no excuse for his wrongdoing. He turned to crime when he could not earn enough money from his commissions as a real estate agent, he added.

  17. ...thing is, will the maid do it for him?? http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...n_who_made.html SAF will take appropriate action against serviceman who made maid carry backpackEnraged26%Shiok!26%LOL!29%So sad4%Sure or not?1%Bochup14%The Singapore Armed Forces says it will investigate the case of a national serviceman who had apparently made his maid carry his backpack, and take the appropriate action. The response came after a photo was posted in STOMP, showing a young man dressed in army fatigues walking in front of a woman carrying what seemed to be his backpack. The story was later picked up by The Straits Times. A Ministry of Defence spokesman said in response to the report in The Straits Times that "the SAF takes a serious view of the conduct of its servicemen in public" and that it will investigate and take the appropriate action. The story had sparked a debate among STOMPers, on whether Gen Y soldiers are too 'soft', 'spoilt' and 'pampered'. There are some, however, who wondered if a shoulder injury had prompted the 'maid' to carry the backpack for the serviceman.

According to STOMPer Sean, he seemed oblivious to the fact that patrons were staring at him in shock. He even kicked up a fuss and complained when the counter staff refused to serve him. Sean says: "This nudist was seen trying to buy coffee at McDonald's but ended up causing quite a stir. ""My friends and I were there when we saw the guy coming towards McDonald's. "We saw him nude full frontal. "My friend overheard him ordering a coffee but he wasn't entertained because of his indecent exposure. "He went out and called someone, complaining that he wasn't being served. "He was outside for about ten minutes before he left. "He looks like he is in his twenties or early thirties."
