  2. I recently purchased a second hand ride and transferred owndership on 23 July 2009. Its road tax subsequently expired on 11 Sept which I duly renewed it with the required Vehicle Radio License. Just last week, I received a REMINDER notice from MDA demanding payment for Vehicle Radio License from 23 July 2009 to 11 Sept 2009. I was kinda perturbed. #1, I did not receive any prior notice and this notice is a reminder? #2, When I purchased the car with its road tax and vehicle radio license fully paid till 11 Sept, why should I pay for it again? Wouldnt it be double collection? I questioned the customer service gal at MDA and she could not respond. After a few minutes on hold, she came back tot me and said, LTA would have refunded the difference to the previous owner, so no double collection. I did not take her words as at the same time, I sold my car and paid the road tax and Vehicle Radio License till November. In so far, no refunds, nothing! Are we snooked? Are we paying double? Guys, though the amount is small, Please check before payment. I have written an official letter to MDA for their explanation.
  3. My auntie passed her driving test at least 15 years ago but has never driven since that day. When I asked why, she said she has no confidence. So on paper, she is an experienced driver but in reality, she could be worse than a L plate. I suspect her license is only useful for giving bonus points to my uncle. I wonder how many people are in her situation? I also wonder if driving is like riding a bicycle where once you have mastered the skill, you can do it no matter what or if a driver needs constant practice to stay proficient. I drove for 6 months after getting my license then stopped for 3 years. When I got behind the wheel again, the first few trips were nerve wrecking.
  4. Just received a notice from MDA saying I nvr paid my car radio license from Nov 2008 til this May and got additional $10 late payment fee.Thought radio licence is paid when I renew road tax?Wat the fish is going on??? Anyone can shed some light on this matter?
  5. While I am glad LTA only levies an application fee of 100 dollars on retaining an old license number on a new car, I do not understand the rational of charging a princely sum of 1,300 dollars for transferring a memorable number to another car owned by the same person. The car with the original license number is usually sold or scrapped. Furthermore, the car whose number was transferred from must apply for a new number plate, costing at least 321 dollars. So in total, the cost for keeping the number is at least 1,621 dollars. Of course, there is the swapping of license numbers. It costs a whopping 2,600 dollars just to swap the licenses between the cars you own. What happens when you decide to stop driving regularly, and start to enjoy our efficient public transport, but still like to retain your keepsake number to remember your very first vehicle, or your "pat tor" mobile that nabbed you your then girlfriend, now wife? A logical solution is to keep the number within the family, either by passing the number to your kids, or your wife. The price of this transfer would be a shocking 1,621 dollars, plus a significant transfer fee of the original car to the name of your relation in question of at least a few hundreds, to thousands of dollars, depending on the Open Market Value(OMV). In addition, the original vehicle log card would have its ownership count increased by 1, critically affecting its resale value. In an age where Singaporeans struggle to find their roots, where our schools no longer stand on where it was, replaced by a cold, new building, possibly with another name, or the familiar name now hangs on another campus totally foreign to us, our associative vehicle license number is a good way to reminisence the old times. I understand there are complications involved in eradicating the costs of number retention. Firstly, jokers around will swap their plates as and when they like, creating confusion amongst some. Secondly, people may profit out of reselling old numbers on an larger scale. Thirdly, having a large quantity of retained numbers could mean the new numbers advance more slowly, and bidders for their favourite number have to wait longer for them. However, these are simple problems which could be hemmed in by setting certain criterias, and timeframes for number swaps to take effect, but allowing appeals on case by case basis if the conditions are not met. Moreover, with a 100 dollar charge to retain number from an old vehicle to the new one currently, it is unlikely the rate of new numbers generated is impeded. Furthermore, once the number swapping novelty wears off and becomes a norm, it is unlikely the abuses will continue. What do you think?
  6. my card the transparent plastic cover dropped in half, can replace with new one? anyone know damage?
  7. As the topic suggest . Is the following legal ? Saw a body kitted car in my MSCP . The front license plate is by the side of the bodykit . What i noticed was .. the license number is "spray" directly onto the bodykit . (Very professional done though - as in the number are silver on black background - The car was white) From far you see it's just like those legally plated number , Fonts , spacing etc ... But just that it is sprayed on ... Like that can pass inspection ??
  8. I've been thinking of learning to ride a bike, am thinking it will come in useful example in overseas tourist locations where biking is prevalent. Most likely will not be riding one in Singapore. Is getting the Class 2 license the best way forward? With Class 3 already, any concession in any of the tests for Class 2? Please share your experience.
  9. Anyone knows what's the age limit for getting a driving or motocycle license back in the early 90s? I remembered clearly seeing my secondary 5 seniors riding motorbike to school while i was in sec 1. Then my nighbourhood junior college students will drive to school in their school uniform. But when i reached sec4 and JC, seems like nobody drives or ride in my age group. Only when reached 18, then all hell broke loose.
  10. Just trying my luck to see if it will be read by the owner. You had parked at a parallel parking lot, and there was another vehicle trying to parallel park infront of your car. He reversed into your car while doing so, and drove off immediately. Was nearby and witnessed it. I had taken down the license plate number. Don't see any visible damage on your car, but well, would need close scrutiny on your part. PM me if you're reading this so that I can provide you the plate number and a witness(me), just in case you need to report and claim damages for your car.

  15. Couple fined for driving offences By Khushwant Singh A STALLHOLDER who operates runs the popular Adam's Cuisine stall in Adam Road Hawker Centre, was fined $2,000 on Friday for driving without a licence last year. Edmund Balan, 30, was also fined another $1,000 for driving without insurance and disqualified from driving all classes for vehicles for three years. His wife, Thilagam Krishnan, 44, was fined a total of $1,400 for allowing him to commit the offences with her car. She was also disqualified for a year. The couple had claimed trial. They pleaded guilty after Staff Sergeant Jason Tan Kang Pin and Sergeant Maszita Mazali told the district court that they were positive that it was Edmund who was driving his wife's Hyundai along the Central Expressway at 1.30am on March 8 last year. The officers who saw the Hyundai ahead of them, signalled to the driver to move into the centre lane. They became suspicious when it turned left into Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 when the police car pulled alongside it. The officers saw Edmund behind the wheel and followed the car into Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and into Bishan Road where they stopped the Hyundai. The cops said that they saw Edmund coming out on the driver's side while his wife came out from the front passenger side. But the couple then claimed that the wife had been driving - a story they stuck to until mid-way of the trial on Friday. After they pleaded guilty, the court was told that Edmund had previously been fined for speeding and had been jailed a month for driving while under disqualification in 2001. Thilagam, who is a catering training officer with Singapore Airport Terminal Services, has no previous offences Pleading for the lowest fine to be imposed, their lawyer, Mr Shashi Nathan said that Edmund's previous convictions were committed seven years ago. Edmund took over the wheel that day as his wife was very tired after they had supper in Toa Payoh, said Mr Nathan. They were returning to the Adam Road Hawker Centre to close the stall when police stopped them. Edmund could have been jailed for six months and Thilagam to three months. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_214376.html

  20. This is not a photoshop. Picture taken in New Zealand. There are so many 'customised' license plates in NZ. I wonder how NZ authority (aka LTA) control license plate. Imagine when a police officer ask a witness for the car license plate in the event of an accident. The witness would say .... Its BMW officer.

  23. Lately i've seen a lot of people do this: their license plate is modelled after those in EU. Meaning the plate looks something like this, the license plate has a blue strip on the left hand side, 13 stars (of EU) above & then below the country code (for eg. GB for Great Britain) Then the rest of the license plate (which is white) has the fonts modelled after that used in the EU. Now here's my questions: Legal?? If so, where to do?? 'Coz it sure looks good.... Please advise. Thanks
  24. Personally i have class 3...i failed my first 2 attempts and even the second tester told me to go and learn auto...briefly considered but in the end i carried on with manual...because i think i will not know when will I need to drive manual cars...
  25. HONG KONG (AFP) - - A Bruce Lee fan has splashed out 40,000 Hong Kong dollars (5,100 US dollars) on a car licence plate bearing the name of the legendary martial arts film star, local media reported Sunday. The "BRUCELEE" licence plate was sold at an auction by the Hong Kong transport department, the Sunday Morning Post reported. The bidder said he would have paid up to one million Hong Kong dollars for the plate, but would consult with Lee's widow before deciding what to do with it, according to the report. "When I studied in Britain, I saw that foreigners only knew Bruce Lee and chairman Mao Zedong," the man, identified only as Mr Wong, said after Saturday's auction. "Bruce Lee was great and he contributed a lot to China. He has influenced people from a few generations and his influence can still be felt today. Lee was born in the United States but his fame grew from Hong Kong where he made movies including "Fist of Fury" on his way to worldwide superstardom. The actor, who died at the age of 32 on July 20, 1973, helped to popularise martial arts in the West and opened the door to Hollywood fame for other Asian stars such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20070805/ten-...pl-a05f8fe.html
