  1. I bought a used batt for storage. How long can it last w/o being in the car?
  2. Say if I wash my car once a week. Wax twice a month. Just like to know thanks.
  3. You know, everytime I see Schumi win, I'm amazed. No doubt he's flawles, seldom makes mistakes, but luck seems to be on his side everytime. eg. in China, Alonso in the lead had pit-stop cxxk-up costing him 10 seconds or something, then yellow flag came on just about the right time for Schumi's pit stop. And people ahead of him keep falling out due to other reasons like Kimi with engine failure etc etc Or maybe it just seems that way, perfect engine, planning, strategy etc. Makes F1 interesting when so many things affect the outcome, but yet frustrating when you dont want him to win Anyone feels that way ?

  5. How much fun can one find in a 1.4-litre hatch these days, one would ask. Quite a bit, apparently, if it's the much talked-about 3-door Focus - pleasantly sharp handling, taut body control in and out of the corners and decent ride on the straights coupled to quite a bit of useable space behind (both in the rear seat and boot) the driver. Braking late into downhill corners hardly upset its composure (probably would have upset yours truly's lunch before the car showed any discomfort) and sudden lane changes (not very recommended too often but great shortcut way to check out roll in crowded roads) reveal a nice, firm set up with roll well in check. Only an overly light (for a conti) clutch (my one of two gripes) dents the otherwise lovely first-drive experience. And all this fun on stock 15"ers.... The dash upfront is feels half-a-notch up on quality from the Mk1 but, to my personal opinion, despite the presence of the factory fit head unit, the design takes a step back from the new edge to (new ?) conservative. Even the gearknob feels better tho' the look is debatable. The exterior looks like what I'd imagine a baby Mondeo would have. The lights, the flanks....even the steering wheel looks like it came from the Mondeo. A case of a maturing Focus, perhaps ? Access to the rear, with the doors slightly larger than the 5-door hatch, is decent but that also opens up to the second of the two could-be-better gripes I have - the headroom was surprisingly decent given it's a 3-door hatch and seeing how poorly its s40 brethren fared a couple of months back. However, the side armrests, wich double up as cubby hole covers could do better in the fit and materials department. Cliched as it may seem, one of the better handling cars in this end of the market may just have gotten better (and thank goodness it's a maunal, too, I should add) and, even with 3 adults and aircon blasting upfront, there was hardly a hint of any struggle for breath from the car throughout the drive. Personally, the last time I had so much fun in a out-of-the-showroom 1.4 hatch was with the Leon (for the uninitiated - it's the Seat Leon 1.4, of which only 20 or so units were brought in to S'pore), and this, I'd say, even beats that experience in some ways. So, again, with gusto, repeat after me - lovely handling, terrific ride, conservative inside, could-be-better rear....or, in short, I'd put it down as a most worthy consideration for this market segment. Now, if only the 1.6's came with manuals (but we've all been there before, haven't we ?)
  6. HI guys, can we use this to prep the surface before applying sealent?
  7. Lets sae for 6mths i have driven only 4k km (including frequent being abroad) do i still need to change engine oil?? does the engine oil have any life span before its quality gets lousier??
  8. Hi all, Thanx to MadeD single handedly pulled out this extra organ from my Aveo, here are some initial observations after 1 tank: +ve 1. torque/horse powder/pick up... everything also went up up up. 2. now no need to press hard on accelerator liao. 3. nice~ engine sound especially right after starting the engine. Fierce... 4. no audible hooting sound as long as rpm never go beyond 3k. 5. because no need to push the car harder, fc actually went down slightly -ve 1. maybe because torque, etc, gone up, or maybe due to strong air sucking action, car actually vibrates more especially at higher speed 2. need to 'cham' brake from a longer distance and harder due to higher torque, etc. 3. subconsciously want to driver faster faster & faster. hmmmm, need more discipline on this. 4. don't know why but rpm actually went up. E.g. Used to be around 2.2k at 80km/hr but now already 2k at 70km/hr, 3k at 100km/hr. I thought rpm supposed to go down? Some leaves stuck in the air intake? Anymore to add from bros & sis without resonators?
  9. I bought a carton of Amsoil sometime in mid-2003 for my previous car. After using up 8 bottles for 2 rounds of servicing, I sold off my car and got a new Altis this month before the 3rd service so I
  10. Hi Guys, I just got the HKS Power Filter for my drive but it did not state how long the filter can last on the box. According to the guy at the shop, he said it's able to last 30k-40k mileage. Is that accurate? Can this filter be washed with water when I want to clean it?
  11. Under Singaporean driving conditions (lots of short distance drives, with occassional N-S adventures), until what mileage (kms) can a typical engine work up to before needing an overhaul? An overhaul can only lasts about 50kms, the last time I've heard. Is this correct? I have seen cars in Msia going with 500K mileage and still moving?! Owners say no overhaul whatsoever. Is he lying? Msian cars travel longer distances (many times more!) than Spore cars due to the land size and also traffic. Any bro has experiences to share?
  12. Taken from a US Automotive Student forum "Dear People, keep in mind of all the wonderfull things that long life coolant do for your car...... it kills you. It will create a deficiency in your imune system to plastics. In other words, long exposure to this coolant, ingestion, vapours and phisical contact will result in your being alergic to plastics. READ WARNINGS. This was taken of MSDS sheets." http://pub227.ezboard.com/fautotechnologyf...topicID=4.topic
  13. How long do you usually go before you do an oil change for your synthetic oil ..... 10K ? Does your FC drops just about 7000km after oil change ? Can most oil last the distance ? Good guide would be to check colour of oil and also how many months it's there since we all cover different mileage ... is 6 month or 10K a good guide ?
  14. Hi all brothers, Got a shock of my life when I was driving along TPE heading towards Hougang just now. Saw a blue Alfa Romeo and was thinking of having some fun. We both exit at Hougang and was stuck at the traffic light. Thinking that my modified 205bhp SiR (dyno-tested) should be able to beat him flat. When the light turned green, I go on at full throttle thinking that it will be another victory over a conti. To my atonishment, the alfa romeo effortlessly leave me behind and the next moment, I lost him!!!!! How the hell would a Alfa be so fast? I clocked my century sprint at 7 sec flat and he can beat me FLAT!!!!! Any brothers here know who is him? I'm really interested to know what he has done to his car OR if you are the driver who is reading now, let's meet for a coffee.
  15. Here's a study on Amsoil oil. http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html Seems like Amsoil does performs much better than Mobil 1 in terms of reducing engine wear. However the oil degrades quickly after some driving distance. The oil life test is not over yet. But they expect the oil to be unuseable after 11,000 miles or 17,000 KM. As compared to Mobil 1 which lasted 18000 miles or 30,000 KM. Some people use Amsoil for extended drain period, so be extra careful. My friend uses Amsoil for about 30,000km before oil change.
  16. All the makers are targetting on small wagons. However, I read the specs with half understanding (japs) some variations of this comes with turbo..... http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-lineup/life/ The current Fit/Jazz trend is pretty saturated already 2 years in market. it's time for a completely new model - i hope so...quite a cute nicelooking car
  17. Check out these location photos... Akina and Usui never looked so real http://www.h2.dion.ne.jp/~eg9/gallery.htm
  18. Skoda Octavia (quote from AutoWeek) very so often, a car will completely transform its maker's image. The Octavia is one such machine. It forced people to rethink their prejudices and realise premium quality does not necessarily mean a premium price tag. Launched in 1998 as either a five-door hatch or useful estate, it was the first Skoda designed entirely by the Volkswagen Group. It shared many components, including engines, interior trim and the floorpan from the Golf, but it was kept cheap by virtue of varied models and value-led prices. The Octavia is a cracking used buy. It's affordable, largely because Skoda's badge still carries an unfounded stigma for some, but is also reliable, well engineered and supremely capable. Checklist * All engines are from VW and are tough. Avoid sluggish 1.4s and 1.9 SDIs. Also, check 1.8s and 2.0s have had recall work carried out on the ignition coil pack. * The basic Octavia trim levels are often thrashed as pool cars, so look for signs of neglect such as scraped bumpers, cracked mirrors and shabby paint repairs. * Avoid minicabs. Diesels make popular taxis, so look for wear to the back seats and avoid anything with a huge mileage. * There's an exhaust system design flaw which traps water behind the back box, causing the silencer to rot prematurely. If the car hasn't had a new exhaust in three years, expect a bill soon. * It's a Skoda, honest! That means the Octavia won't pass much muster with the criminal fraternity, making this model cheaper to insure than most rivals.
  19. Basically, would like to find out how has your car improve your life in general? or vice versa strangle you every day in terms of installments/fuel etc? don't know whether this is the right place to post....
