  1. take note: Red-light cameras to be activated to detect speeding from Apr 1 SINGAPORE: The speed enforcement function in red-light cameras across Singapore will be "progressively and dynamically" activated from Monday (Apr 1). Locations that are more accident-prone or violation-prone will be prioritised for the activation. Red-light cameras, which are deployed at selected road junctions, are used to detect vehicles that commit red-light running offences. They are prominently painted in orange and white. Warning signs with speed limits are also placed before traffic camera enforcement zones. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/red-light-camera-speed-enforcement-function-activated-apr-1-traffic-police-4231476

Upon leaving the station, noticed engine check light on, but not flashin Drove for 20 mins to eat, turned off and Start again light still on This morning the engine check light disappeared Should I bring to workshop and check or since it went away should be okie? Since no engine light on,means the diagnostic tool willl not pick up anything wrong with the car? First time car owner here with mcf sticker 🥶
  4. I can't seem to find a "Health" forum. I think there should be one. But here goes : Declining eyesight can be improved by looking at red light, pilot study says By Ryan Prior, CNN Updated 1700 GMT (0100 HKT) June 30, 2020 (CNN)It will be as easy as brushing your teeth or shaving, and as long as future studies support it, it just might save your eyesight. A few minutes of looking into a deep red light could have a dramatic effect on preventing eyesight decline as we age, according to a new study published this week in The Journals of Gerontology. If the results are replicated in future studies, and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, the light could augur a new era in which millions of people have access to the easy home-based therapy. It would give them a new layer of protection against the natural aging processes that steal our eyes' sensitivity to light and ability to distinguish colors. "You don't need to use it for very long to start getting a strong result," said lead author Glen Jeffery, a professor of neuroscience at University College London's Institute of Ophthalmology. The science works, Jeffery said, because the light stimulates the health of mitochondria, which are like batteries in our cells. And because mitochondria are implicated in a broad range of diseases, insights like these could help lead to new treatments for diseases including Parkinson's and diabetes. All it takes is a few minutes The study was small, a pilot study to test the concept. Researchers recruited 12 men and 12 women, whose ages ranged from 28 to 72. Each participant was given a small handheld flashlight that emitted a red light with a wavelength of 670 nanometers. That wavelength is toward the long end of the visible spectrum, and just short of an infrared wavelength, which tends to be invisible to the human eye. They spent three minutes each day looking into the light over a period of two weeks. The lights work on both cones and rods in the eye. Cones are photo receptor cells that detect color and work best in well-lit situations. Rods, which are much more plentiful, are retina cells that specialize in helping us see in dim light, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Researchers measured the cone function in subjects' eyes by having them identify colored letters with low contrast. And they measured their eyes' rod sensitivity by asking them to detect light signals in the dark. There was a 14% improvement in the ability to see colors, or cone color contrast sensitivity, for the entire two dozen participants. Improvement, however, was most significant in study participants over age 40. For those ages, cone color contrast sensitivity rose by 20% over the course of the study. That age bracket also saw significant increases in rod threshold, which corresponds to the ability to see in low light. Study participants under 40 also experienced some improvement, but didn't see the same jump as older subjects. Younger eyes haven't declined as much as older eyes. "The retina ages faster than any other organ in your body," Jeffery said. "From an evolutionary perspective, we fundamentally have never lived past 40." Now, of course, we regularly live well beyond that age, and need ways to nurture the organs that for millennia have been the most likely to wear out earliest in life. Adults ages 40 and higher are are at the highest risk for eye diseases such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These diseases can occur in young people but their prevalence increases with age. At the beginning stages, these conditions are treatable, although they can start creeping in before symptoms appear. That's why the AAO recommends increasing regular eye exams to every two to four years for people once they cross age 40, and to increase exams to every one to two years at age 65. The CDC notes that the progression of these diseases can also be slowed by eating a diet rich in antioxidants and maintaining normal levels of blood sugar, body weight and blood pressure. If those indicators get out of normal range, they can further degeneration by breaking down blood vessels in the eyes, the American Heart Associations says. It's easy and safe to use This new study in humans builds on results in fruit flies and in mice, which also showed that red light could improve the functioning of mitochondria. For instance, a 2015 study showed that near-infrared light could spur energy production, improve mobility and extend the lifespan of fruit flies. And a 2017 study of visible red light at the edge of infrared reported a 25% improvement in the functioning of retinas in mice. Longer-term independent safety studies of red lights in humans would have to garner similar benefits for this method of eyesight protection to be approved by the FDA. If so, you'd still need to use a properly vetted product under a doctor's supervision. For example, while the laser pointers approved by the FDA for sale in the US don't cause eye damage, a 2018 case study in the New England Journal of Medicine outlined how a boy in Greece permanently injured an eye by pointing a green laser pointer into it. One of the best assets of the red lights they used is that they are safe, Jeffery said. The researchers all tested the red lights on their own eyes before beginning the study and have found no ill effects. The research subjects in the study also reported no ill effects. "If you use this every day, we have no evidence to say it's detrimental," Jeffery said. That fits with prior research, in which the safety of red lights has long been established, explained Dr. Raj Maturi, an associate professor at Indiana University School of Medicine. "It would be a very easy pathway to FDA approval," he said. But more studies are needed to prove it helps Although these lights aren't harmful, Maturi wasn't ready to embrace the idea that they're incredibly helpful either. This pilot study lacked a control group of patients who could have been exposed to a dummy light that emitted, he noted. The results found in this small study of 24 participants might not bear out in the larger population. Of the subjects over 40 in this study, individual characteristics of a few of them would be enough to make the eyesight improvements look stronger than they actually are. "The data set could be brought down by three or four subjects," he said. And while participants improved in how they saw the blue color axis, Maturi pointed out that they didn't have statistically significant gains in how they saw the red color axis. To really test these insights, it'll take a double-blind controlled study with a larger group of subjects and longer monitoring over time. LED lights could help with many diseases LED lights work in this arena because of what scientists call the mitochondrial theory of aging, in that humans and animals age as damage accumulates in mitochondria and mitochondrial DNA. Therefore stimulating mitochondria to reduce damage is a way of slowing aging in general. Our retinas are chock-full of mitochondria — the highest concentration of mitochondria of any part of the body. That's a main reason why Jeffery and his colleagues sought to test out the red lights in a specific area of aging such as eyesight decline. Mitochondria absorb longer wavelengths of light, making the near-infrared light their preferred choice to test. Red lights can improve function in a range of diseases, particularly in the mitochondria in those undergoing aging with conditions such as Parkinson's, he noted. "Every disease could have a mitochondrial angle," Jeffery said. "In diabetes, for instance, your mitochondria are very upset." Each application carries that same human desire to fend off processes that are both natural and universal. "We're all going to suffer from aging. So let's try to go gently if we can," he said.
  5. Maybe they were in a rush or had some emergency to attend to? But no matter what it is, there is still almost no excuse to cross the road when the lights tell you not to. 2 young teens were knocked down by a taxi along Paya Lebar road on 1st of Oct 2020 as they crossed the road while the light wasn't in their favour. The 17 year-old female pedestrian was conscious when taken to Raffles Hospital while the male refused to be taken to hospital according to The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). He seemed to suffer from some bleeding from his knee but was still able to move around on his own. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, said the police. Check out the various angles of the accident video on SG Road Vigilante.
  6. Where got reasonably price service to clean and reseal the headlight. Notice some condensation on the inside face of the transparent casing... before my ballast goes kaput. TIA.
  7. Unlike our previous blog post, this is neither weird nor uncommon. Unfortunately. Shot earlier today from an unknown camera vehicle, a red light-beating mini lorry which was carrying an unspecified number of passengers at the back, flipped when a taxi smashed into it. The accident happened at the junction of Tanjong Katong South and Mountbatten road with the driver of the Transcab taxi appearing fazed but unhurt. The video, which was post by SG Road Vigilante, did not mention what injuries there were and how many were hurt but we could see at least two passengers emerging from rear of the lorry after it was on its side. Obviously, this was the fault of the lorry driver and the netizens wasted no time slamming him online. One of them even put up a good point on why are people still allowed to sit on the rear of lorries where there are no seat belts. We wish everyone who was hurt in the accident a speedy recovery.
  8. Anyone knows where to find LTA compliant detailed specs of Traffic lights ?
  9. Obviously the camera is meant for left-hand drive market, which is why the light and button is on the left of the camera. But are there are ways/mods/accessories so the driver knows if its green light is on? Asking because just discovered the green light has been blinking for so many days wihout me knowing. Luckily nothing 'exciting' happened before I realised this. For those not familiar, this is what the camera looks like:

  13. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/halogen-light-bulbs-to-be-phased-out-all-lamps-sold-to-be-as-10866584 SINGAPORE: In an effort to spur consumers to switch to energy efficient bulbs, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is raising what is known as the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of light bulbs, which will effectively phase out halogen lamps. The agency is aiming for all light bulbs in Singapore to be, minimally, as energy efficient as LED bulbs from 2023 onwards, it said in a media release on Friday (Oct 26). Under the current MEPS regulations, halogen or incandescent bulbs, which account for about 5 per cent of all regulated lamps sold in Singapore, must attain a one-tick rating, and LED bulbs must attain a two-tick rating. From Nov 1, 2019, all bulbs, incandescent or LED, must attain a two-tick rating on their Energy Label when brought into Singapore for sale. Anyone who flouts the MEPS regulations when they come into force will be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$10,000. The NEA will also introduce two enhancements to the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) - more than 80 per cent of lamps sold in Singapore will be covered, and displaying of energy labels in all publicity materials, physical or digital, is now mandatory. These will take effect on Nov 1, 2019. “It is important for consumers to be able to differentiate energy-saving products, such as LED lamps, from less energy efficient products," said Mr William Song, the sales marketing head at LEDVANCE, a lighting supplier. "This allows them to make informed choices and benefit from the greater durability, light quality and lower energy consumption of LED lamps, which results in cost savings for families in the long run.
  14. Wish to get help here. My car is Elantra Basic model. i crack the left tail light cover a few month ago. Now I got a new light and wish to change by my self. However, when I start to do DIY, I found there is an additional wire connect to the tail light. Is there anyone can advice what is this wire for? I think it looks like for the power source for reverse camera, or reverse sensor? The new light I bought do not have this wire. I attached the photos. Thanks The new light bought do not have this wire I checked the right tail light, do not have this wire
  15. Hi: For safety, anyone know how to set the "small light" to auto-on each time when we switch on the engine? Fyi, this car did not have the light auto-on function. Any setting we can set to the car? Thanks.
  16. 2 weeks old Hyundai Elantra. Scratch to a pole when I make a reverse turn on a narrow road. Left side tail light cover crack, but all lights function well. My own car. Any suggestions? I only treat it as a transportation for my family. So do not want to spend much on repairing it. 1. Bring back to Komoco. But I do not think warranty will cover any. 2. Claim insurance. Excess 600. Maybe I just pay repairing cost and next year premium increase. 3. Outside workshop. Not sure what the cost for the light cover. 4. Use glue or tape to fix it by myself. To me the looking is not an issue. Wait next time go JB or has other issues repair together. Any ideas. Please help. Thanks.
  17. Hi All, Like to seek advise from bros/sis here, the Engine and AT light turned on earlier this year (Jan) and I cleared it using torque. It happened once in a while then, so I visited a workshop and they recommended changing the AT oil and monitor which I did. (car mounted kerb few weeks before, so not sure if it can cause this although we didn't see any physical damage undercarriage) Btw the gearbox was replaced with a recon unit when I extended the COE in end 16. It seemed ok until recently (start of this month), both lights will turn on whenever I move off from the carpark at the start of the day. The gear shifting is a little jerky from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 and then stucked at gear 3 where the lights will turn on. I will then clear the error and continue driving (sometimes it happened another 2-3 times) and once it managed to hit gear 4, then everything will be fine. I noticed this happens when the car is parked for quite some time(I seldom drive the car).If I had been driving around for the day, then the chances of the lights coming up is very low. The error code is P0715 which points Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit. As the error became consistent, I sent it to two workshops to check 2 days ago and both told me that chances is the ECU and the worst case is the gear box. But after googling around, some say is the TCM which sound more logical. Thus, I would like to seek opinions from experts here whether it is more of an electrical or mechanical fault and if there are any good workshops to recommend. (these 2 workshops say it's not the speed sensor which the error code indicated though) Thanks!
