  1. Okay, I may sound like a b-stard here. Over the past 2 days I have been making calls to HDB hotline to report on the cars that are parked illegally in the roundabout at my neighbourhood. These repeat offenders have been parking on double yellow lines and loading bay like it's their own private carpark and finally my threshold for my tolerance has hit the limit because it was raining and I almost hit a black car parked on the double yellow line due to the poor visibility and I finally picked up my phone and start calling LTA hotline to report on these vehicles. Being my first time calling, I didn't know these were not under LTA's jurisdiction but HDB, so I was directed to call up on HDB to make my report. However, it was raining yesterday and despite my few phone calls (yes I called them a couple of times with about 2 hours interval) they still did not come and issue summons, so I thought "okay la raining, cut those enforcement some slack" and stopped calling since the rain doesn't seem to stop. Having nothing better to do today, I made the call today and they came after 30mins. I timed them and when the officer came, all he did was go one round and park somewhere, start to issue summons. But out of the 10 over vehicles that were parked long the double yellow line and in the loading bay, I only saw him standing beside a few cars, checking on his machine but at the end I only saw him issuing 2 summons which made my blood boil, so I called them up again to feedback on what I see. True enough, the officer went on to issue summons on all the cars which made me feel better. My question is: there is a myth about them earning commissions through these summons, is this true? if yes, then why is he so slipshod about issuing summons? And also, is there any way for me to feedback to HDB for these enforcement officers to come down more regularly? I have been seeing these vehicles parking on double yellow lines, obstructing the traffic within the roundabout for the past few years and I do admit I am one of them who have received summons a couple of years ago. Ever since then I have stopped doing this and went to park at the carpark unless I genuinely have heavy objects to unload, I'll unload it at the loading bay and let my passengers wait at my void deck with my stuffs while I park my car in the MSCP. A part of me thinks that I am f-cked up, and I will get karma for all these. But another part of me thinks that these bloody vehicle owners should serve themselves right for treating the roundabout as their private carpark just because it's near to their block and they don't have to spend a bloody 5 mins to walk to their vehicle at the MSCP. Want convenience? Be prepared to pay $100 everytime. For the bros who are facing the same problem as me, you can call up HDB at 1800-272-1409 and help these vehicle owners get their punishment.
  2. if we stay in landed property, and our tree fell onto a lamp post and totally destroy the lamp post can we claim it is an act of GOD only in singapore can government organisations get away like this Car owner fumes over fallen tree Owner angered by town council's advice to file insurance claim, which could raise her premium in future. Thu, Sep 22, 2011 my paper By Sophie Hong Claiming insurance for a wrecked car has become a nightmare for one motorist. Ms Patricia Yeo, 37, told my paper yesterday that the Ang Mo Kio Town Council informed her husband on Tuesday that their car had been damaged by a fallen tree. The Chevrolet Aveo had been parked in a Housing Board carpark in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, near where the couple live. But what angered Ms Yeo, who works in the insurance industry, was that the town council had merely advised her husband to file an insurance claim. The town council did not say whether the claim should be made against the town council or otherwise, Ms Yeo said. She said: "I have insurance for my car but if we claim it, my premiums are going to be higher (in future)." As the car was sent to the workshop just yesterday morning, repair costs have yet to be calculated. Ms Yeo believes it would not be a small sum. It was raining on Tuesday but Ms Yeo's neighbours told her that there was no wind when the tree fell. She also noted that "not a single branch" had fallen from the other trees in the area. It made her suspect that the tree fell because it had been poorly maintained. Ms Yeo said she also saw pruning work being carried out on other trees near the carpark yesterday morning. The tree next to the fallen one was removed as well. Workers carrying out the job told her that that tree was "unhealthy". The Ang Mo Kio Town Council did not respond to my paper's queries yesterday. Lawyer Lee Terk Yang said that Ms Yeo could take action against the town council for not maintaining the trees. However, the town council would most likely cite this as "an act of god" in its defence. "In that case, she will have to prove that the trees in the area were 'unhealthy', but it will be an uphill task since the trees had already been pruned or removed," said Mr Lee.
  3. Hi all, I find the fixed/land line at home irrelevant these days apart from broadband usage. When the phone rang at home, no one even bother to pick up the phone . Regards,
  4. Quite clear thinking. ST Forum May 23, 2011 The line between party and nation THE existence of different political parties in a country is considered a hallmark of democracy. However, there is a vast difference between many Third World countries and First World countries in how the political system works. In some Third World countries, it is not just wholesome rivalry between parties but deep hostility that often manifests in assassination, detention and persecution. One admirable feature of some First World democracies is that when the election is over, the opponents shake hands and get down to work together for the greater good of the nation with little personal ill feelings. The interest of the nation prevails over that of the party. In other words, the line between the party and the nation is distinct. Not many Asian countries are able to observe that distinction thoroughly. In one general election here some time back, I was disappointed to see the leader of the winning party coming on television to warn the constituency that voted against the party that it would not enjoy the benefits other constituencies would. I feel that once a candidate is elected, he should serve all people without distinction. On National Day, I feel something amiss when People's Action Party parliamentarians show up in party uniform. National Day, unlike a party rally, is for the whole nation, and the celebration should signify a united nation. There is a Chinese saying that different roads can lead to the same destination. Even though there is a dominant one-party rule in Singapore, I hope different parties can see clearly the way to the ultimate, overriding interest of the nation. I was very impressed by an unusual phenomenon in Malaysia in the 1970s when Dr Tan Chee Khoon, an opposition leader, was appointed chairman of the University of Malaya Council. We are a small country; talent are hard to come by and they should not have a party label. I hope all our parliamentarians who have something valuable to contribute can be fully made use of in our government regardless of their party backgrounds. Dr Ong Siew Chey
  5. Intimacy in public: where to draw the line By Shawn Lee Miller PICTURES of couples behaving intimately in public have been making its rounds on the internet through websites like STOMP. While these acts of intimacy may be nothing new, the frequency in which they are caught on camera have raised an eyebrow or two. "It's just that there is an increasing number of camera phones around. These things were present since my mum's times. However, people taking pictures of others should protect the identity of the people they are taking pictures of because you don't want to get them into trouble," said STOMP Star Blogger Silver Ang. While most Singaporeans RazorTV spoke to were against such invasions of privacy, there were some who felt that couples who have no reservations about acting intimately in public do not deserve to have their privacy protected since they are in a public place

  15. Retaining or hiring senior advisers in Asia can cost two to three years of bonuses, said John Koh, managing director of WMRC Pte Ltd, a recruitment firm in Singapore. Base pay increases of about 30 per cent are available for switching firms and bankers with 8-10 years of experience who have brought in assets of US$300-500 million can earn S$500,000. Entry-level advisers are paid about S$120,000, he said. 'We're back to levels seen in maybe 2006 or 2007 with lots of people in the market at reasonably expensive prices,' said Boris Collardi, chief executive officer of Zurich-based Julius Baer. The trick is to find people who 'pay for themselves' by attracting assets, he said. Higher salaries will depress profits from Asia, where UBS reported 3.77 billion Swiss francs (S$4.93 billion) of revenue last year and Credit

  17. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...421-211579.html Lack of information during NEL breakdown? Wed, Apr 21, 2010 AsiaOne By Tony Ng SCORES of commuters were left stranded this morning as the trains on the Northeast Line, managed by SBS Transit, grounded to a halt. Click on thumbnails below to view more photos. Story continues after photos. (Photos: Stomp, Alina Tan) The service interruption occurred at around 8.30am during the morning rush hour. The Northeast Line covers a total of 17 stations - from Harbourfront to Punggol. "Beanie", stranded at Punggol Station, told citizen-journalism website Stomp, that trains at Punggol came to a "total standstill since 8.30am." Others were lucky they managed to avoid the NEL altogether. Communications executive Mr Raymond Poon told AsiaOne that he was lucky to hear an announcement about the service breakdown. It claimed that train service would be restored in 10 minutes, Mr Poon said. But "I had serious doubts about that and decided to take a taxi to work," he added. Was SBS Transit -- operator of the NEL Line -- slow to inform commuters of NEL breakdown? According to comments received from readers, it was. Stranded commuters were annoyed that the transport operator did not make an announcement on the breakdown or put up notices. "Anonymous" posted his question on citizen-journalism website, Stomp, asking for more information about the NEL line. No notices iinforming commuters of the breakdown were put up at the entrance of stations, said "Gossip gal". Except for a waiver of fares, there were no other transport alternatives provided, "Beanie" said. "Sure the Circle Line is great but that doesn't mean you can drop the ball on other Lines," Twitter user @BhavnaVK commented in her tweet.
  18. hi one and all.... anybody out there gonna try out the new circle line service???
  19. This is for your info only. I have been using my M1 line for many years without knowing that GPRS and Video calls are activated even though I did not request for them. Both services are charged based on the data volume transmitted. My current bill has a $100+ data charge, and I don't even know when it was incurred. I have called up M1 to terminate both the GPRS and Video call services so that there will not be any future "accidental" data usage. You may want to do the same too.

  21. And yes, its confirmed that there will not be any Horsepower gain, other than a higher gear boost controller it costs 15,750,000 yen or $160k USD "Sourced from wiki" The GT-R SpecV is powered by the standard twin-turbo 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 cu in) V6 with no increase in horsepower, but a new high gear boost controller that temporarily increases the air induction should deliver more torque in mid to high-range revs. Other mechanical changes include a titanium-coated exhaust, reworked suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and 20-inch NISMO wheels. Overall weight is decreased by 132 lb (60 kg) over the standard GT-R. TOKYO (Jan. 8, 2009)

  23. Quote - "Under the hood we find the same 2.5-litre BOXER engine capable to develop 300 hp and 350 Nm of torque between 2800 and 6000 rpm." What do u guys think abt this car? And wat car should it be compared to? GTi?
  24. The line is getting blurrer. A SUV traditionally doesn't come with a 3rd row and is meant for off-roads. Hence, the need for 4WD and even Turbo. Look at some of the SUVs these days, no 4WD, even have 1.5L one and are bought by buyers partly for the perceived safety (bigger means safer during coillsion). Do people really buy a SUV for safety reasons and for the high-up there feel? What is more, now 3rd row is being added. So do you call them a Crossover, SUV, RV or a MPV ? Regards,
