  1. Now I know why some like it ... Hidden message inside .. Yahoo news: Human tongue has a sixth taste sense! London, June 11 (IANS) In addition to recognising sweet, sour, salty, savory (umami), and bitter tastes, your tongue has a sixth taste sense - the "sense of carbs" - that allows you to perceive carbohydrates -- the nutrients that break down into sugar and form the main source of energy. The "sense of carbs" also triggers the pleasure centre of the brain and could explain why people often find diet foods unsatisfying, a research shows. "The mouth is a more capable sensory organ than we currently appreciate, able to distinguish carbohydrates from artificial sweeteners when both taste identical," said Nicholas Gant from University of Auckland in New Zealand. Carbohydrates are extremely powerful stimuli that have profound and immediate effects on the brain and the systems it controls, Gant added. For the study, researchers asked participants to squeeze a sensor held between their right index finger and thumb when shown a visual cue. At the same time, the participants' tongues were rinsed with one of three different fluids. The first two were artificially sweetened - to identical tastes - but with only one containing carbohydrate. The third, a control, was neither sweet nor carb-loaded. When the carbohydrate solution was used, the researchers observed a 30 percent increase in activity for the brain areas that control movement and vision. This reaction, they propose, is caused by our mouths reporting that additional energy in the form of carbohydrates is coming. "This 'sixth taste sense' for carbohydrate is likely one of many additional food qualities that are detectable by receptors in the mouth," Gant was quoted as saying in media reports. The study is set to appear in a forthcoming issue of the journal Appetite. link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/human-tongue-sixth-taste-sense-112609350.html Why need a researchers to tell us this ...
  2. Hmmmmm............... what's your request when in oversea .... Yahoo News: Singapore reveals quirky consular requests Singapore on Thursday urged its globetrotting citizens to avoid misusing consular services abroad, revealing "odd requests" including one man who demanded help to get a refund for bad sex. Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam said the number of overseas trips made by Singaporeans had surged to seven million in 2013, compared to 3.6 million a decade ago. "We handled over 3,000 consular cases last year. Many cases are genuine. But sometimes we do get odd requests," he said in a Facebook post. In one instance, Shanmugam said a Singaporean sought Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) intervention "for a refund after he had gotten illegal sexual services in a foreign country". "He wasn't satisfied with what he had gotten. We had to tell him that MFA could not help!" Shanmugam said the ministry also declined to intervene when a man demanded an investigation over alleged racial discrimination while overseas. The man had claimed "he received a smaller piece of KFC chicken compared to what the locals had". "He wanted MFA to investigate this instance and seek justice in that foreign country for the unfair treatment he claimed to have received," Shanmugam said. In another case, a Singaporean man was turned away by consular officers after he implored their help to persuade his foreign girlfriend to divorce her husband, so that he could marry her. "We want Singaporeans to marry and have children. But there are limits," wrote Shanmugam. "We have to draw the line between what is personal responsibility and what's not." The light-hearted post was shared widely, with one Facebook user describing it as an account of "the entitlement mentality of some Singaporeans". The MFA has 49 overseas missions and 30 honorary consuls-general, servicing some of the large proportion of Singapore's 3.31 million citizens who travel regularly. Singapore followed Britain's lead in divulging some of the odder requests filed to its diplomats abroad. In May last year, the British Foreign Office said its embassies had been asked if they could silence a noisy cockerel, order an unfit husband to shape up, and check out the credentials of a woman one man had met online. 4. Wah lauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ................. I don't mind $4k party for my birthday and I want to be a Blogger also ... Yahoo news: Extravagant or not? Singapore blogger’s S$40,000 birthday bash sparks online debate A Singapore blogger has come under fire for her upcoming birthday bash costing upwards of $40,000 – none of which she is paying for. Sara Shantelle Lim was quoted in a press release stating that she will celebrating her 27th birthday on Friday this week with “the biggest ‘Candylicious Neon’ themed party in Singapore” and has received over $40,000-in-kind sponsorships for the private bash. Lim blogs at The SG Sisters, a blog she started with her elder sister, Lora Christelle Lim. The blog claims to be “the first and only Luxury Blog in Singapore.” Singapore tabloid The New Paper, first reported that Lim has a bevy of alcohol and beer sponsors including Jim Beam, Auchentoshan, Pinnacle Vodka, Courvoisier, and Brewerkz. Among other things, flowers, candy buffet, and a three-tier birthday cake for the party will all be sponsored. Three diamond rings have also been sponsored, to been given away to the “Best Dressed” partygoers. The party will be held at exclusive night spot, Club Altimate at 1-Altitude, where the venue rental is said to cost $20,000 for the night. For entertainment, Lim said that her friend, Singaporean model-DJ Nicole Chen, will be spinning at the party. Lim also reportedly name-dropped her friend Kim Lim, the daughter of Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, who recently bought Spanish football club Valencia. Lim reportedly stated that while most of the sponsors are “mainly her close friends, who wants [sic] to throw Sara an amazing birthday party”, other sponsors “believe that she can help them to promote their brand well on her luxury blog” or want to “tap into her strong network of contacts”. News of the blogger’s lavish celebration has sparked online debate, with some calling it an “obscene amount of extravagance”. Facebook user Greg Tan commented, “40k is some people’s annual pay...but others can just spend it in 1 night.” Another user, Eleanor Quek, wrote, “What a waste of money on one big party. I know I will not be supporting those brands anymore. Bad advertising decision.” Others have commended Lim’s shrewdness in having a sponsored birthday party. Facebook user Johnny Laxman said, “don’t have to feel sore and condemn her for it. At least she’s smart enough to get others to sponsor her instead of using her own money”. Sponsorship is not a new concept to bloggers in Singapore. One of the most prominent bloggers in Singapore, Wendy Cheng, or better known as Xiaxue, had sponsors for her wedding and home renovations. The blogger and her husband reportedly spent $80,000 on their home renovations, excluding the sponsorships that are estimated to be worth $100,000. Tonight lets go and boggey, free flow of drinks ...
  5. OK.... who also promise "more good years ahead" and "Swiss Standard of Living" ........ CNA: Don't turn elections into auction of "goodies" says Minister Khaw Boon Wan SINGAPORE: National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Monday (June 2) warned against turning elections into an auction between political parties promising voters as much "goodies" as they can, with as low taxes as possible. He made this point during a dialogue at the joint World Cities Summit, Singapore International Water Week and CleanEnviro Summit. The topic of financing rapid urbanisation came up. Mr Angel Gurria, the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development had raised that a common way of financing urban growth is through taxes such as consumption tax, property taxes, or green taxes. Mr Khaw said it is natural for people to want more, but not want to pay higher taxes for it. He said political parties should not take advantage of this. "In all honesty, we must acknowledge most of our people would always want more, but would never want to pay more in taxes, and it's incumbent upon our part to be honest with our voters, because if every election is a mere auction between political parties to give as much goodies as they can with as little taxes they need to pay, I think democracy of that manner must lead to insolvency and eventually, political cynicism." Mr Khaw added there is no shortage of money to finance the development of infrastructure - the problem is a lack of sustainable good ideas which will benefit all sectors in a country. He said, as long as projects are bankable, there will be no shortage of funding. However, it is inevitable that governments may need to help finance some projects in order to help the poorer segments of the population. Mr Khaw also shared with delegates some lessons that Singapore has learnt. One is the importance of keeping the economy open. He stressed that protectionism has no place in Singapore. This is because in the case of Singapore, its domestic market is too small. Still, some observers say being small may have its advantages. Said CEO of Suez Environment Company, Mr Jean-Louis Chaussade: “Small cities are much easier to manage than very big cities where the problems are really complex due to the size. It's less in terms of technology; it's easier in terms of human resources, and human cooperation." However, Singapore faces additional challenges because it is a city-state. "Because the state consists of only one city, if the city fails, the country fails. So, for example, Detroit may be bankrupt but there are many other American cities can continue to prosper and America remains a major global power," explained Mr Khaw. Mr Khaw added that as a small city state without a natural hinterland, Singapore will feel the impact of globalisation more acutely. - CNA/xk link: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/don-t-turn-elections-into/1133560.html hmmmm........... no shortage of money to finance the development of infrastructure. 6. Hur..... , worst place to work in aklso got rating now. Singapore rated at No. 3 aka average niah niah ... Yahoo news: Malaysia scores a ‘5’… as one of the worst places to work in Malaysia joins the list of countries deemed the worst places in the world to work in as it does not guarantee workers' rights, according to a survey by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). In its first-ever Global Rights Index report, compiled from 97 indicators, Malaysia scored 5, joining Cambodia, Bangladesh, China and Nigeria and 19 other countries. A “1” is given to the best countries and “5” for the worst. “Countries with the rating of 5 are the worst countries in the world to work in. While the legislation may spell out certain rights, workers have effectively no access to these rights and are, therefore, exposed to autocratic regimes and unfair labour practices,” said the report released in Berlin. A recent example of alleged violation of workers' rights involved national carrier Malaysia Airlines. MAS took disciplinary action against Mohd Akram Osman, secretary-general of the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam), and 30 other Nufam members for an “illegal gathering”. The move was criticised by many, including civil society, and other trade unions. They called on MAS to recognise and respect workers’ rights, including the freedom of association and the right to join a union. Meanwhile, 18 countries, including Denmark, Norway and Uruguay, scored a 1. The survey covers violations in 139 countries recorded between April 2013 and March 2014. Neighbouring Singapore scored a 3, meaning that its government and companies regularly interfered in collective labour rights and failed to guarantee important aspects of these rights. more of teh stories, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/malaysia-scores-5-one-worst-places-041358079.html Nice to know that MAS said that National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) meeting considered 'Illegal gathering' ....
  7. Ha..ha..ha.... ang mo believe in zombies ..... Too many mutants movies had scared the sh*t of US army ..... Yahoo news: Zombie Apocalypse: US Army has Plan to Stop Attacks by the Undead The US military has prepared a defence plan in case of a zombie attack. A document obtained by Foreign Policy, called CONOP 8888 and also known as 'Counter-Zombie Dominance' provides a how-to guide for military planners to isolate the walking dead and kill them. "This plan fulfils fictional contingency planning guidance tasking for US," the plan summary reads. "Strategic Command to develop a comprehensive [plan] to undertake military operations to preserve 'non-zombie' humans from the threats posed by a zombie horde. "Because zombies pose a threat to all non-zombie human life, [strategic Command] will be prepared to preserve the sanctity of human life and conduct operations in support of any human population -- including traditional adversaries." CONOP 8888, dated 30 April 2011, highlights the different kinds of zombie adversaries one might find in such attacks. They include "vegetarian zombies" (zombie life forms which pose no direct threat to humans because they only eat plant life); "evil magic zombies" (zombie life forms created via some form of occult experimentation) and the dreaded "chicken zombies and zombies from the outer space." The authors even describe a "worst-case threat scenario" in which the zombies would infect humans at a rapid rate. Fearing that the document could not be taken seriously, the zombie survival guide planners wrote at the end of the paper: "This plan was not actually designed as a joke." link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/zombie-apocalypse-us-army-plan-stop-attacks-undead-113115550.html SG can help be sending few crates of this over to them for protections.....
  8. Is China trying to muscle its capabilities in mega projects ? .... Yahoo news: China to Build High-Speed Railway Line from Beijing to US? China is considering building a 13,000km high-speed railway line that would run from Beijing to east coast US, according to official Chinese media. The line, creatively dubbed the China-Russia-Canada-America line, would begin in Beijing, travel north through Siberia, and under the Bering Strait to Alaska before heading south through Canada to reach its final - unspecified - destination in the United States, said the Beijing Times. The journey would take two days to complete if the train maintains its proposed average speed of 350km/h. Although talks are said to be in progress, it is not clear how the countries en route feel. Wang Meng-shu, a railway expert with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said there had been positive feedback. "We're already in discussions. Russia has already been thinking about this for many years," he said. According to China Daily, work has begun with the tunnel technology "already in place". The technology is already being used to build a high-speed railway between Fujian, on China's southeast coast, and Taiwan. The line would be 3,000km longer than the current largest railway line, the Trans-Siberian Railway, and 200km would be beneath the water in the Bering Strait between Russia and Alaska – four times longer than the submerged section of the Eurotunnel. "The project will be funded and constructed by China," the report added. "The details of this project are yet to be finalised." The Beijing Times has said the China-US line is just one of four proposals for huge cross-border railway projects. One is a line from the southwest city of Kunming to Singapore, another runs from China's Urumqi Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey to Germany. 12. Base on a new book written by local writer : "Singapore Sui Dai" Yahoo news: Singapore writer laments that Singapore has lost its soul Singapore writer Felix Cheong wants to know where and why the country has lost its soul. He said, “We have become this glamour city, full of chrome and glass, tall iconic buildings, but no soul.” Cheong, author of short stories collection “Vanishing Point”, takes on this issue in his new book, along with hot-button topics like transport, education and economic growth. Called “Singapore Siu Dai”, which translates to “less sugar” in Hokkien, it is a collection of 50 short stories that satirize life in Singapore. Having previously written poetry collections and fiction novels, this is Cheong’s ninth book and his first foray into humorous fiction. The 49-year-old writer feels strongly about the political themes he tackles in his book. Civil servants are satirized in the book, depicted as characters who form the government’s elite but who do not see people as people. He said, “We have been in this same status quo for far too long. After 50 years, I think it’s time something changes.” He rejects what he describes as the “siege mentality” of the government, which often warns that “we are under siege all the time, we are a small country, we have no natural resources, and we need to grow by 2 percent, 5 percent.” While Cheong appreciates that the country needs economic growth, he does not think it should be “at the expense of soft skills, of people skills, of EQ skills.” Disappointed with the Singapore Conversation dialogue sessions held in 2013, which he felt had “a very top-down approach”, he decided to use his book to ease people into political conversations using ordinary situations they can relate to and laugh about. read more, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporescene/singapore-writer-laments-that-singapore-has-lost-its-soul-084309003.html Go hawker centre, Ah Tiong doing the cooking and serving Morning peak hour MRT train, plenty FT/FW Shop assistants & counter staff - Philippinos Telephone operators - Indian accents NS songs - AWARE not happy ERP - is to ease traffic congestion ???? Yahoo news: Chinese general charged with graft A top Chinese military officer has been formally charged with corruption after he was exposed as owning dozens of homes, gold statues and luxury liquor, state media reported Tuesday. Gu Junshan, a former lieutenant general and deputy logistics chief for the People's Liberation Army, is the highest-ranking officer to face a military trial since 2006, the state-run Global Times newspaper said. He was charged with embezzlement, bribery, misuse of state funds and abuse of power, Xinhua said, quoting the military prosecutors' office, which could not be reached by AFP. Gu has been under investigation for more than two years. In January, widespread coverage of his opulent lifestyle in China's strictly controlled media indicated that authorities wanted to publicise his alleged misdeeds. He owned dozens of apartments in central Beijing, and his mansion in Puyang in the central province of Henan housed several gold art pieces, the magazine Caixin reported at the time. The home was modelled on the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace in Beijing, covered one hectare (2.5 acres) and was dubbed the "General's Mansion" by locals, it said. Officials seized "a gold boat, a gold wash basin and a gold statue of Mao Zedong" along with "crates of expensive liquor" on the premises, it added. more on the story, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/chinese-general-charged-graft-043017410.html

Kudo to Clementi Police Division officers .... from yahoo news: Man, 22, arrested in connection with physical attack case outside West Coast condo [uPDATE on Friday, 21 March at 7:45pm: The man suspected to be Mei's attacker was arrested on Thursday night, after a more than 60-man police operation over three days. The 22-year-old will be charged in court on Saturday. In a statement, her family said they are gradually feeling relief and joy over the news. "The Clementi police division, and all the detectives and forensics staff involved are incredible. They are our heroes. We will leave it to the judicial system to deal justice to the culprit.] She was returning home on Monday at 9:30pm from dinner with her friends, and as usual, took the path from the bus stop to the rear entrance of her condominium. This was the same path she has taken multiple times a week in the four years her family has lived there. That day was different from others though — mere steps away from the gate, 25-year-old Mei (not her real name) was suddenly attacked by a passing cyclist. She said he knocked her to the ground, straddled her hips and punched her head and face repeatedly while trying to stifle her screams. Mei, a freelance graphic designer, believes she was the victim of a rape attempt. Because her attacker is still at large, her family has requested that her real name not be published to prevent him from tracking them down. Mei said she wants to share her experience with Yahoo Singapore to warn women that the threat of a physical attack is real, and can happen here in Singapore. In fact, it happened on a short path located right beside the brightly-lit Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), that connects a bus stop and one of two back gates of her condominium. The man, she says, looked to be aged between his late 20s and early 30s. He was about 1.75m tall, dark-skinned and muscular, and had a sharp nose. He was clean shaven, had short, dark hair and was wearing a pale-coloured T-shirt and jeans or dark pants. He also did not smell of alcohol at all. "In other words, he looked fairly generic,” she said. “His clothes were clean, he was not at all ragged. I wasn’t scared of him (when we first passed each other),” She said she wasn't dressed provocatively either — in a long-sleeved black pullover with jeans. He was cycling towards her after she alighted from a taxi by the road, and they made eye contact briefly as he passed. Mei walked on until she noticed an extra shadow apart from her own, and as she was turning around to see who it was, she received a punch on the right side of her head. As she went down, he pounced on her, pinning her to the ground, plastering his hand over her nose and mouth as he repeatedly slammed her head into the ground with his other hand so she could not breathe. As she screamed and thrashed around, biting the man’s hands and fingers three times as he struggled to flip her facedown, the one thing she knew was that she must keep fighting him. “All I could do was just be really, really aggressive… to show him that he can’t win me, he can’t beat me. I’m going to keep fighting and I’m not going to let him have whatever he wants,” she said. She is still thankful that the man was unable to get to her clothes — two people who happened to live in the same condominium appeared on the path, and the sight of them drove the man away on foot, leaving his white bicycle parked in the middle of the path. more stories, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/-i-honestly-thought-i-was-going-to-die-005516242.html piew....... 20. I just briefly did a search n to my surprise there are at least 20 over bus services on Orchard road. Let's say 1 bus = to 3.5 cars length, so at anytime if there are 4 bus in 1 bus stop n there are 8 bus stop along Orchard road. 4(Bus) x 1(Bus stop) x 8 (Bus sop) = 32 Bus 1 Bus = 3.5 (Car) length 32 (Bus) x 3.5 = 112 Imagine, 112 cars occupying the road anytime during the day. Above is just an example of x numbers of buses could be traveling on Orchard road day time. My question is do we really need so many bus servicing Orchard road?
  21. He needs election .... He can just remove any person like squashing an ant with his index finger ... yahoo news : North Korea holds election, Kim Jong Un runs in legendary district SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea, accused of human rights violations, elects its largely symbolic parliament this weekend, with leader Kim Jong Un, the third in his family dynasty to rule the totalitarian state, running unopposed in a legendary mountain district. State news agency KCNA said on Thursday that election preparations were "gaining momentum", with voters confirming their names on electoral lists for the ballot held every five years. "Agitation activities are going on to encourage citizens to take active part in the election with high political enthusiasm and labour feats, amid the playing of 'Song of the election,'" KCNA reported. North Koreans, it said, sought to "demonstrate once again the might of single-minded unity by casting ballots for their candidates". North Korea stands accused by a U.N. report issued this month of torture and killings comparable to Nazi-era atrocities. Authorities in Pyongyang have denounced the report as "faked". The North's Supreme People's Assembly is empowered by law to approve the budget and make senior appointments, including to the powerful National Defence Commission. In practice, it is a largely symbolic body meeting twice a year in a country where decision-making authority lies with the ruling Korean Workers' Party. Each district has a single candidate, with the overwhelming majority from the party, although a few independents, such as pro-Pyongyang Koreans from Japan, are allowed to take part. more stories, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/north-korea-holds-election-kim-jong-un-runs-123900282.html "running unopposed in a legendary mountain district" ..... ha..ha..ha.... can animals in mountain district file papers to vote against him meh ... 22. yahoo report : Malaysia has lost right to review water price, says Singapore Minister – Bernama When Malaysia decided not to review the water price under the Water Agreement in 1987, it lost its right to review the price, says Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs K. Shanmugam. "Singapore’s position is that Malaysia has lost its right to review the water price. The Water Agreement provided for the review after 25 years. Specifically, there was a right to review the price of water jointly in 1987. "However, Malaysia consciously chose not to review the price. It had good reasons for this," he said this in reply to a Parliamentary question today. Ellen Lee of Sembawang GRC, had asked the minister whether Malaysia had the right to review the price of raw water sold to Singapore under the bilateral water agreement at any time before its expiry in 2061. Shanmugam said Singapore had stated its position on the issue and also conveyed it officially to the Malaysian Government on several occasions. "Our position on this issue is well-known to Malaysia. We have stated this publicly, and also conveyed it to the Malaysian Government, including at the highest levels. The Malaysian Government understands the position," he said. He quoted Malaysia's Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman as saying on February 17, this year: “An agreement is an agreement. When there is an agreement, we will honour the agreement. "If there is any need for review, we will forward it and if their response is positive, we will start talking." Shanmugam said that had Malaysia exercised the right to review the water price in 1987, Singapore might then have made different investment decisions to develop the Johor River, for instance the Linggiu Dam project of 1990. In the event, he said Malaysia chose not to review the water price in 1987, and on that basis, Singapore then took several actions, which also benefitted Malaysia. He said this included building the Linggiu Dam at a cost of over S$300 million (RM773 million), which increased the yield of the Johor River and enabled both Johor and Singapore to draw water from it during the dry season. Indeed, neither party can unilaterally change any of the terms of the 1962 Water Agreement. Shanmugam said Malaysia benefitted greatly from the current pricing arrangement. "We enjoy good relations with Malaysia at all levels. We will continue to work to enhance our cooperation and friendship with Malaysia, in order to benefit both our peoples," he added. – Bernama, March 6, 2014. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/malaysia-lost-review-water-price-says-singapore-minister-161152546.html We build a S$300 million dam for MY ... 23. Of all Smartphone compaines, this one by Boeing (Aircraft Manufacturer) .... yahoo news: Top Secret: Boeing Unveils Secure Smartphone That Can 'Self-Destruct' Taking cues from "Mission Impossible," aerospace giant Boeing is developing a highly secure, self-destructing smartphone that can encrypt calls, protect stored information, or, if someone tries to tamper with or open the phone's casing, delete all of the device's data. The so-called Boeing Black is the Chicago-based company's first push into the realm of secure smartphones. Plans were filed this week with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), but Boeing is releasing few details publicly about the device. The Boeing Black measures 5.2 inches (13 centimeters) tall, making it a bit larger and roughly 50 percent heavier than Apple's iPhone 5, reported the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The device runs on Google's Android operating system, and Boeing officials said the smartphones will be manufactured in the United States. [7 Technologies That Transformed Warfare] "The Boeing Black smartphone was designed with security and modularity in mind to ensure our customers can use the same smartphone across a range of missions and configurations," officials wrote in a short description of the device on the company's website. As such, the phone can be equipped with a diverse range of extra security features, including biometric sensors and satellite transceivers. Unlike regular smartphones, the Boeing Black also uses dual SIM cards to access more than one mobile communications network at a time. The tamper-proof device is being designed for individuals in the U.S. defense and security community who require secure and trusted access to data, according to the company's FCC filings. Boeing has yet to specify when the phone may be available, and for what price, but company officials said they have reached out to potential customers, according to Reuters. With cybersecurity quickly becoming one of the nation's top priorities, Boeing is not the only company interested in gaining a foothold in the market. Silent Circle, an encrypted communications firm based in the U.S., and GeeksPhone, a smartphone company headquartered in Madrid, Spain, joined forces to produce the Blackphone, an encrypted device that runs on a modified version of the Android operating system, reported the WSJ. The Blackphone was first announced last month, and is currently available to pre-order online for $629. BlackBerry Ltd. and Samsung Electronics Co. are also focusing on beefing up security of their products, according to the WSJ. Boeing is one of the largest aerospace and defense contractors in the world, known primarily for the production of commercial airplanes, satellites and fighter jets. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/top-secret-boeing-unveils-secure-smartphone-self-destruct-131258150.html
  24. yahoo : North Korea crimes evoke Nazi era, Kim may face charges - U.N. inquiry GENEVA (Reuters) - North Korean security chiefs and possibly even Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un himself should face international justice for ordering systematic torture, starvation and killings comparable to Nazi-era atrocities, U.N. investigators said on Monday. The investigators told Kim in a letter they were advising the United Nations to refer North Korea to the International Criminal Court (ICC), to make sure any culprits "including possibly yourself" were held accountable. The unprecedented public rebuke and warning to a head of state by a U.N. inquiry is likely to further antagonise Kim and complicate efforts to persuade him to rein in his isolated country's nuclear weapons programme and belligerent confrontations with South Korea and the West. North Korea "categorically and totally" rejected the accusations set out in a 372-page report, saying they were based on material faked by hostile forces backed by the United States, the European Union and Japan. Michael Kirby, chairman of the U.N. Commission of Inquiry, said he expected his group's findings to "galvanise action on the part of the international community". "These are not the occasional wrongs that can be done by officials everywhere in the world, they are wrongs against humanity, they are wrongs that shock the consciousness of humanity," Kirby, a former chief justice of Australia, told journalists. Referral to the Hague-based International Criminal Court is seen as unlikely given China's probable veto of any such move in the U.N. Security Council, diplomats told Reuters. "Another possibility is establishment of an ad hoc tribunal like the tribunal on the former Yugoslavia," Kirby said. The U.N. investigators also told Kim's main ally China that it might be "aiding and abetting crimes against humanity" by sending migrants and defectors back to North Korea to face torture or execution, a charge that Chinese officials dismissed. more stories, link : http://sg.news.yahoo.com/north-korea-39-kim-warned-might-face-charges-130437661.html When UN make Ah Pui angry, he any how press buttons and missiles flying all over ....
  25. from Yahoo news: Large testicles linked to higher rates of cheating A well-known zoologist from Norway is suggesting that his research on the size of male primates' testicles is somehow proof that female humans are likely to cheat. If this sounds like a stretch, that's because it is. Petter Bøckman, from the University of Oslo, released a new study that shows the larger the size of a male primate's testicles the greater the chance that he and his female partner with be unfaithful, reports The Telegraph. The reasons for the infidelity are not entirely clear, but Bøckman suggests that a male with large testicles has a greater amount of sperm, and therefore, is motivated to spread his genes via multiple females. It is further implied that because females are more selective in their mate choice, she is looking for a male can get the procreation mission accomplished. Even if she mates with a large-testicled male, she will keep looking for a man who is more likely to be faithful. The most bizarre aspect of this research is the fact that Bøckman says these findings are proof that female humans cheat. "We can pledge our fidelity until we are blue in the face, but this is evidence that our females are cheating," he says. "We are not like chimpanzees, where the female has four or five sexual partners every time she is in heat, but there is always a certain likelihood that the neighbouring male has dropped by.” Ugh. Where to start with Bøckman's comments. First of all, it's not news that women cheat, just as men do, so the fact that he points this out is of no real significance. Secondly, it is entirely possible that the reasons why human women cheat have very little to do with the same reasons why female bonobos, gorillas, and chimpanzees are unfaithful. It seems highly unlikely that a human female would cheat on her husband or boyfriend simply because his testicles are too large! In all fairness to Bøckman though, maybe what he was trying to indicate is the fact that humans have unconscious biological drives, not unlike primates. Perhaps it is more plausible that a woman would cheat because she senses a lack of commitment -- physically, mentally or emotionally -- in her partner. What are your thoughts on the findings of this study? Do you think it is a reflection of human sexual behaviour?
