    London launches

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has launched a new campaign encouraging Londoners to turn off their engines when their vehicle is stationary for more than a minute. Delivered by the Transport for London (TFL), the campaign urges drivers of all vehicles to switch off their engines when they are parked or when picking up and dropping off people or goods, reducing the amount of unnecessary and harmful exhaust fumes emitted. A study conducted shows that by doing so, CO2 emissions would be reduced by 100 million kg each year. The campaign also highlights the health benefits of reducing pollution levels and that includes preventing and alleviating illnesses such as asthma and heart and lung conditions. In addition, a research revealed that poor air quality contributes to around 4,300 premature deaths in London in a year and affects the quality of life. Some motorists may be concerned that re-starting the engine repeatedly within a short time frame may be detrimental to the vehicle

  8. It looks like the relationship between Suzuki Motors Corporation and Volkswagen Group has gone from bad to worse. Some of us might know about the recent reports of Volkswagen threatening to sue its Japanese partner. And now, Suzuki has begun arbitration proceedings against Volkswagen on the 24 November 2011 at the ICC International Court of Arbitration, located in London. If the proceedings are successful, it will force Volkswagen to sell back its stake in the Japanese company back to Suzuki or to a third party approved by Suzuki Motors. The alliance between the two companies began in 2009. Volkswagen Group bought a 19.89% stake in Suzuki and in turn, Suzuki acquired 1.49% of Volkswagen. The alliance was originally intended for Volkswagen to expand in India where Suzuki has experience and sales success. On top of that, Volkswagen will give Suzuki access to its core technologies; technologies which the Japanese automaker could not afford to develop on its own. The partnership began to crumble when Volkswagen mentioned in an annual report that

  10. It is just a matter of months for the 2012 London Olympics to take place; Mini has released a limited edition of Olympics-inspired Mini Cooper. The cars will hit the road as early as March next year and Mini will only built 2012 units of it. The London 2012 Edition models will come in one of three Union Jack-themed colour schemes which are Chilli Red, White Silver or Lightning Blue. All three will feature white mirror caps, a white roof with the London 2012 logo, and a Union Jack stripe running over the bonnet, roof and rear of the car. The cars will also get specially designed grey 17-inch conical spoke alloy wheels, which are not available on any other model. Inside, a picture of the London skyline is etched across the piano-black dashboard, featuring landmarks like the Tower Bridge and the London Eye. And the patriotic theme extends throughout the cabin: the black leather seats get red, white and blue stitching, as do the headrests, handbrake and floor mats. All models feature extra options such as Lounge Leather sports seats, DAB radio, air-conditioning, cruise control, and chrome interior touches. Start-stop and brake regeneration also come as standard. These cars will be released in the UK and there is no word on whether will they be released overseas. Prices in the UK will start at

  16. Quote: LONDON - A MALAYSIAN student was allegedly drugged and raped in a London college by seven Russian men, including an intelligence officer, who have been arrested, reported a British newspaper. According to The Sun daily, the teenage girl, who is studying at the prestigious Bellerbys College in Greenwich, South London, was at a party on Jan 23 with other English-language students when she was drugged and assaulted by the seven men. As they raped the 18-year-old in succession, they filmed the attack on iPhones. The footage was retrieved by police when they arrested the men later. 'The incident was horrific,' the newspaper quoted a source as saying. 'Mobile phone footage has been recovered that clearly shows the girl to be under the influence of drugs.' The victim reportedly raised the alarm after staggering into a friend's room. 'She is distraught. She is very young and it is believed she was given a drug before being defiled,' said the source. Four men have been charged with the assault, including intelligence officer Oleg Vladimirvich Ivanov, 23. All four were aged between 22 and 26. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_630281.html

  18. Hi Bros, I'm making a trip to London in May. Was thinking of checking out any electronics / car gadgets there. Is there anything worth to look out for? My friends in UK told me that normally they come SG to buy electronics and almost everything is expensive there. Is that true?
  19. Hi Bros, I've actually decided on a backpacking trip to London (+france+italy) in May. However, recently I realised that my wife's pregnant. Guess it's a accident I'm supposed to be happy about. But as we have already planned for the trip in advance and now this has happened so we are kinda at a loss what to do. According to the gynae, she says it's really ok to travel when she's 5mths. But I assume she only thought of the 13hrs plane travel and not the backpacking. But as this is summer season, we can carry very light and I can be the one carrying everything (I think?) but I really wonder if it's still a good plan to carry on. Currently I have a few options: 1) Don't be greedy and only stay in London walk about and come back after 7 days (reduce from 2 weeks travel) 2) Carry on with plan for 2 weeks since most of the travel should be by train / subway? 3) Discontinue with the plan. Already checked with SQ. They are ok to refund my tickets due to special circumstances. Does any bros got any comments? Why travel in May? Coz I'm using the 50% discount to redeem miles to London which is only available in May.
