  1. This is a very sad case that I would like to share with you'll. A China FT working for my gf's dad's company was knocked down by a lorry while cycling at night near his quarters. He had been cycling by the side of the road when a lorry's side mirror hit the back of his head causing him to fall and again hit his head hard against the curb. He was knocked unconscious with severe bleeding from the head. The lorry driver was responsible enough to stop and call for help. At the hospital, the China FT fell into a coma and the doctor said that he suffered serious brain damage and would most probably be disabled for life. His father and cousin has flown over here and only recently became conscious but isn't able to talk or move and lost his memory. He would be flown back to China soon via special arrangements. As for investigation by the TP, it is going nowhere as there is no witness. Although they are still investigating, I fear it may be futile. The TP cannot get the China FT's statement as he can't even talk or remember anything and he will be flown back China soon. The lorry driver claimed that he only hit him lightly and the China FT fell on his own and for info he has not visited the China FT once at the hospital. As for compensation and the cost, my gf's dad has kindly paid the hospital fees and the flight cost, 20k++ total, even though the incident happened outside working hours which does not make the company liable. Compensation cannot be claimed on the lorry driver's insurance as it has to be done by the victim and with the China FT's current state, impossible. Social services has also declined to sponsor anything which is a shame. My gf's dad has already done his best to help this worker, engaging a lawyer to sue for compensation would be costly and risky, plus he's is only a small company. Is there anything that can be done here? Just imagine the pain of his parents and he's their only son.
  2. Driver says: Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were... MY HEART SANK By Chong Shin Yen December 19, 2007 HE knocked down an elderly woman with his lorry, and its rear wheels ran over her legs. But Madam Neo Siew Eng, 68, was able to get up on her own. He then gave her $50 and left. The driver, Tan Boon Hoh, 43, did not know that Madam Neo had fractured a pelvic bone. She died three weeks later and her family blamed him for not helping her seek medical help immediately. Last Friday, Tan was fined $1,000 for causing grievous hurt by negligence. Before sentencing him, District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim said that there was no evidence to link Madam Neo's death directly to the accident. Tan, a bread delivery man, later told The New Paper that he was not being irresponsible when he allowed her to leave on her own. Said Tan: 'I had wanted to send her to hospital, but she looked perfectly fine, other than a few scratches on her arms, and she said there was no need to. 'She could also stand up on her own and was able to walk off after talking to me.' Madam Neo was on her way to the market to buy breakfast for her husband and family. After the accident, she hobbled in pain back to her Jurong East flat about 400m away. A neighbour who saw her outside her front door then called the police and ambulance. Madam Neo was discharged from hospital two days later but her condition later took a turn for the worse. She died of bronchopneumonia (severe infection of the lungs) on 28 Jun. Tan said he found out about her death only from the newspapers. The police also called him to inform him. REVERSING LORRY 'Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were. My heart sank, I didn't expect things to take such a turn,' said Tan. 'I felt that my actions had caused someone her life - whether directly or indirectly - and that I should visit the family to apologise.' Tan said his manager advised him not to go and instead he went on Tan's behalf.' The court heard that Tan had been reversing his lorry along the carpark driveway of Block 238, Jurong East Street 21, around 7.30am on 8 Jun. Madam Neo was crossing behind his vehicle at that time but he did not see her because a box on the lorry blocked his view. When he looked into the rear mirror, he saw that someone had fallen to the ground. Tan got down to check on Madam Neo and gave her $50 before they left separately. When asked by the judge how fast his lorry was moving, Tan replied that it was very slow. He told the court: 'If not, she would not be able to get up and speak to me'. Tan, who did not have a lawyer, added that he had asked Madam Neo in Hokkien what she was doing behind his lorry. But Madam Neo replied that she 'didn't know'. Said Tan: 'So I told her it was better that she sought medical attention. It was then that she asked me for money. I gave her $50, which was all I had that day.' He added that after receiving the money, Madam Neo walked away on her own. And seeing that she was all right, he continued his bread deliveries. Tan went to make a police report later that day. He pleaded with the court not to disqualify his driving licence as it was his livelihood, and the judge agreed. Tan could have been jailed two years and fined. Speaking outside the courtroom, Tan said that he felt 'vindicated'. He said he was sorry that Madam Neo had died and that the accident had been weighing heavily on his mind. 'If I had meant to run away or act in an irresponsible way, I would not have gone to the police station after the accident,' he said. He has been working as a delivery driver for 15 years and earns $1,200 a month. He is the sole breadwinner of the family. He said: 'The licence is my rice bowl. I have only Primary 5 education and I really do not know what I else I can do besides being a driver.' Tan said that his wife, 34, suffers from heart disease and needs to go for an operation soon. He had earlier submitted her medical reports to the court. She is unable to work because of her health. The couple have three children aged between 3 and 11. 'Now that I'm able to keep my job, I'll try to put this matter behind me,' he said. In a report in The New Paper in July, Madam Neo's family had accused Tan of being 'irresponsible and heartless' for not seeking medical help for her. When contacted, her eldest daughter, housewife Tan Lay Tin, 51, said they were still upset with Tan. 'A life has been lost. We're still angry that he did not call for an ambulance immediately after the accident,' she said. 'My mother was so old and even if she had appeared fine, the least he could have done was to send her for a check-up.' CONSIDERATE But she agreed that it was possible that her mother had turned down Tan's offer to send her to the hospital. 'My mother was a kind old lady, maybe she did not want to trouble him,' she said. Madam Tan added that when her mother was hospitalised, she had urged her children not to look for the driver. She also told them not to 'bring charges against him' http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,151039,00.html?
  3. If anyone went IMM today around 430pm, you will notice super jam forming outside. What happened at 4:30pm. 1. I was 2 cars away from a lorry that looked suspiciously tall to clear the height limit barrier towards level 2. 2. True to my speculation, it failed to clear barrier. Instead, it dragged down the barrier causing it to fall nicely to block entry to level 2. 3. Level 1 became the only parking space for cars coming in. Anyone else witnessed this saga? Wonder what will happen to the lorry driver...

  12. Saw this Special "Disabled" logo on a MANUAL Nissan Cabstar (with normal foot clutch)today. The driver was an able bodied person. Saw him alight from the lorry. And a peek inside the lorry did not reveal any special features to facilitate a disabled person to drive it. Why would a disabled person want to or have to drive a lorry? Any comments?

  14. Saw news lat nite that a Songyi Auto registered lorry was found with a Dead man lying inside. Apprently, the man is dead for a few hours and was discovered by a passerby whom tried to wake the man up since finding it suspicious to sleeping in the truck. Police have identified the Dead man to be the younger brother of the truck driver. I was thinking if the lorry driver is Songyi's boss which is the guy whom is sitting in front of the counter?

  16. "Hi to ignis lovers, I believe most ignis drivers should have the same experience as me, driving this car is fun but the only setback was how come the gear shifting is like driving lorry. I have check around with other models of same make and their encounters are fine, quiet gear shifting experience. I have once raise this question to CM service advisor and answer was is like tat noisy can't do much the gear box is supported by a few wire so more cloggy.?? ** When I first test drive the car, it seems to be more smooth in transmission. Any brothers/sisters out there encounters the same or worse situation and happens to know a solution to solve it." http://www.suzukiclubsingapore.com/forum/v...opic.php?t=1190 Haha... I alway told my fren that i driving a pick up. Anyone know anyway to reduce the noise?
