  1. [extract] Quite a surprising bit of news here. Lotus has basically given its seal of approval to Mansory, that crazed performance car tuner that can turn a Panamera into a vivid blue and canary yellow monster or a Rolls Royce Ghost into a really ghastly being. The photos you see here is of a Mansory badged Lotus Evora were taken from Lotus' website and it also stated that this is
  2. [extract] Proton have come up with so large a display at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show that I believe a short write up is in order on the brand. As soon as you enter the first exhibition hall you can see that it is basically made up of Perodua and Proton. Perodua had a smaller display with only 2 actual cars
  3. Now that Lotus have announced their latest, if not greatest models I have noticed that all of the look strikingly similar to one another. Is it just me? I don't think so. I think you readers would too. What I do know is that I wrote about the Elite, mentioning that it looked Maserati-ish and it had a touch of the recently departed Toyota Celica from some angles. The thing was at that point of time, Lotus only released details on that one car. Now that it has announced the new Elise, Esprit, Elan and the Eterne as well, I now noticed that all the cars look the same. Some may have an extra door or two, some may have a longer rear end that would accommodate a larger V8 engine (Esprit), some may be entry level but after looking at the photos of of especially the Elite, Elan and Elise I find that they actually look very similar. Too similar to be exact. Of course some may argue that the current Elise and Exige look the same. They should as they are the same car. One with a roof, one with a removable targa roof. The Evora looks similar, but it has a longer wheelbase and slightly different front and rear design cues so you will never mistake it for the smaller Elise/Exige models. The unpopular Europa also looked like a proper Lotus, but didn't look similar until you couldn't tell one Lotus from the other. It looks like things have changed. If I didn't look at the number plates, I may have not bothered to tell the difference from one new Lotus to another. I suppose while the designs are cutting edge and modern, I also mentioned that the Elite looked like a Celica; ergo very Japanese looking. Like origami. And therefore very non-European? This is the question I now ask. Are the new Lotus too similar and not as unique as the older, current models? If so then this new business model of high end, high tech cars may not work. Uniqueness sells supercars and sports cars. So far the Lotuses look good if it stands on its own, but five similar looking models on the motor show stand? I doubt it. Of course we can hope that these new Lotuses will handle lovingly well. That fact may be unique enough to most.
  4. The new Lotus Elise probably has the lowest CO2 for its performance for any gasoline high performance sportscar in the world. The body
  5. Lotus surprised us by unveiling the 2015 Elise at the Paris Motor Show. Available as a coupe and roadster (the Exige name will apparently be dropped), the new Elise features shark-inspired styling, floating taillights, and a variety of carbon fiber components. Furthermore, thanks to a longer extruded aluminum chassis, entry and egress should be vastly improved. Power is provided by a supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produces around 320 hp. Paired to a robotized manual transmission, the 1095 kg Elise should be a fairly zippy drive. Along with the new Elise, Lotus also showed us the Eterne (a four door coupe), new Esprit and Elan at the show. More photos of these gorgeous Elan Esprit Eterne
  6. [extract] Lotus is going full swing in its push upmarket. It has now revealed the new Elite concept car ahead of its official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show. This marks another model launch at this prestigious motoring event and it also marks the third Lotus carrying the
  7. [extract] Lotus has unveiled photos (and specs) of two new Lotus Evora models ahead of their public debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. One of the models is the Lotus Evora IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift), which is Lotus marketing talk for something so dull and common called the
  8. The 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance which will happen on the 15th of August is where Lotus will reveal another one of its new products. This unveiling of the Lotus Evora Cup GT4 race car is the second official press preview of a new specialty Lotus after the ground breaking totally track only T125 (no going to the market for groceries with this baby - a trackday car only for the track and nothing else). The car is part of its masterplan to have Lotus automobiles involved in multiple levels of motorsport like it did during the good old days under founder, Colin Champan. It seems Lotus seems to have suddenly dug up a large motorsport budget ever since their entry into this year's F1 and the development of new track and race cars under this new business plan shows that the budget is pretty large. Of course not Ferrari large, but quite impressive as the T125 capitalizes on the same parts, or similar parts that the F1 program utilizes. The same could be said for the Evora Cup GT4. The base car is still an Evora but it would utilize parts from Lotus' regular suppliers. The Evora Cup GT4 is powered by a 4liter V6, up from the 3.5liter 276bhp Toyota V6 of the stock Evora. This provides 390bhp and the horses are transmitted to the road via a 6 speed sequential gearbox. The fibergrlass body has also gone under the scalpel of race car body experts Dallara to optimize all aerodynamics of the car. This car was basically built for Lotus to compete in the GT4 European Cup racing series and will compete against cars like the Aston Martin N24 Vantage and the Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo. To further make building the car even more economical Lotus intends to run its own one make race series for the Evora Cup GT4. More paying customers spread out over more cars is always a good thing for a company as small as Lotus.
  9. Very recently at the Monterey Motorsports Pre-Reunion event Lotus has previewed its track day special. And when you think of 'track day' specials you would think of a normal production sports car (at the very least) with special rims, tires, trick suspension, some horsepower upgrade and a half roll cage like a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. But, this is a really big but, Lotus has come up with an F1 car as its ultimate track day special; the T125. This is nothing like most ever imagined. I would have thought a stripped out Lotus Evora or a modified Lotus Exige would have sufficed. Even Ferrari came out with the FXX based on the Enzo Ferrari road car. This, this is a whole level higher. It even blows the Maserati MC "Hammer" MC12 away on the point of sheer outrageousness. The T125 is, according to Lotus, the closest someone can come to an F1 car. Pretty close to one as it isn't road legal but it does have something an F1 car does not have, a starter motor so it does not need someone with a long stick probing the rear of an F1 car every time it has to start. Limited to 25 units it will be around
  10. [extract] And now for an update about Lotus. It seems the new CEO, ex-Ferrari man Dany Bahar has decided to make sweeping changes in order to make Lotus profitable. Proton, the ultimate owners of Lotus at this point of time seem to have allowed a free reign for him to do so. Sometime last June, Lotus announced that they have a 5 year plan which includes moving upmarket
  11. Lotus Engineering conducted two studies to look at the possibility of developing passenger vehicles from 2017. The specialised lightweight sports car maker says its long-time philosophy of weight reduction will benefit potential customers in the areas of fuel consumption and C02 emissions. By studying and comparing its concepts to a benchmark Toyota Venza crossover, Lotus was able to achieve a 38% vehicle mass reduction, excluding the powertrain. For example, compared to the baseline Venza's 400-plus body parts, the 2020 model Lotus had only 211. Yet it retained similar interior and exterior dimensions, as well as key safety and quality characteristics as its counterpart. The interior systems include 50% lighter seats, climate control hardware, navigation electronics and others. There is a high level of component integration for space maximisation and weight minimisation. An example is the audio/ air conditioning/navigation touch screen which also contains the shifter and parking brake functions. Chassis and suspension components are to be downsized, the glazing and width of the windscreen possibly reduced and replaced with an appropriate, lower weight substitute. A low energy, low heat friction stir welding process used on high speed trains would be employed alongside adhesive bonding during the production process. Lotus expects the system, currently applied by some low volume automakers, to have mass production value by the time the car is production ready. A second nearer-term vehicle was envisaged for the year 2017. Lotus says a mass reduction of 21%, excluding powertrain, was attained on this particular study.

    Clean fun from Lotus

The "added lightness" mantra is well-known in performance circles--cutting weight helps everything about a sports car, from acceleration to braking to handling. Now, it seems to help out in emission figures as well. Lotus announced the 2011 Elise scored 46.6 mpg and a mere 239 grams of CO2 emissions per mile, making it the cleanest and most efficient gasoline-powered car in its performance category. When the revised Lotus was revealed in February, it was announced that it would be powered by the Toyota sourced 1ZR-FAE 1.6-litre engine with Valvematic and Dual VVT-I, producing 134 bhp and 160 Nm. At the time, Lotus estimated the fuel economy and emissions improvements to be around 23 percent and 13 percent respectively. Gains were also made thanks to improvements in aerodynamics, which cut drag by four percent. 134 bhp might not sound like a barnstormer but it projects the 1,934 pound Elise from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. For comparison, the 2010 Toyota Prius, which takes just under 10 seconds to reach 60 mph, manages a slightly better 50 mpg combined rating, and emits 148 grams of CO2 per mile. However, it requires a much more complex hybrid system to do so, thought it has a back seat. Even if the 2011 Lotus Elise isn't the greenest car on the planet, it certainly proves that you don't have to give up fun to go green.
  13. The Elise is entering the 2011 model year with a host of updates including styling and mechanical tweaks, as well as the introduction of a new entry-level model with a Toyota-sourced 1.6-liter gasoline engine. The facelifted model is distinguished by the new fascia featuring a redesigned hood, new bumper with a wider grille, and reshaped headlights incorporating LED daytime running lights for the first time. The restyled rear bumper and engine cover along with new alloy wheel designs complete the aesthetic upgrades. More important changes are found under the hood with the 2011 Elise gaining a new entry-level 'S' model powered by a Toyota-sourced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which enables the revised Eliase to do the century sprint in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 200km/h. This new engine is 200cc smaller than the outgoing Elise S 1.8L model and produces the same output (134HP at 6,800 rpm) but slightly less torque (160 Nm vs 172Nm). However, it offers an improvement in fuel economy of more than 23%. Both the 189bhp 1.8L 'R' and 217bhp 1.8L supercharged versions boast better fuel economy and emissions as compared to the outgoing models. Finally, all 2011 Elise models benefit from a new six-speed manual gearbox. Perhaps, Lotus should consider developing a twin-clutch equipped Elise to cater to buyers who want the convenience of an automatic transmission with negligible reduction in performance.
  14. Lotus has just formally introduced a new 400-plus horsepower sportscar concept. That news in and of itself would be enough to pique our interest, but the rest of the car's spec sheet makes the Evora 414E Hybrid an astonishingly intriguing concept vehicle. As you surely surmised by now, this two-seat sportster is a hybrid, specifically an extended-range electric vehicle that features a pair of rear-mounted electric motors and a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gas-powered engine. Why not fully electric? According to Lotus: With regard to the total lifetime CO2 emissions of the vehicle, including the energy required to manufacture and run it, the range extender solution has a lower overall CO2 footprint than a fully electric car of comparable performance and operating range running with a larger battery. That 47-horsepower gasoline engine never actually sends power directly to the Evora 414E Hybrid's wheels. Instead

  16. Backed by Malaysia, Lotus coming be back to F1!
  17. Just read a review on Lotus Elise that comes with a bolted supercharger. With the supercharger, the horsepower has increased from 189 to 218 and reducing the time of century sprint to 4.5s. This is comparable to most sports cars such as Ferrari. However, Elise is not known to have good build quality for its interior parts. At $233,800 with COE, it is consider a steal. So will you purchase one? More info at http://www.lotuscars.com/elise_220.html
  18. Came across a poster for the upcoming 12 Lotus Concert (preview for the movie) to be held at Expo, The Pavilion on 9th August. Seem like the concert is exclusive as 1 pair of ticket is given free when you purchase S$100 worth of Crocodile product. http://www.crocodile.com.sg/index.htm Anyone know if the ticket is on sale and where ? Search the web but can't find any infos. BTW, anyone know where to get the latest Getai schedule ? Used to be here http://getai.stomp.com.sg/getai/index.jsp but no update so far this year. Thanks!
  19. Here is a snapshot of the mata chias that u guys will be seeing prowling on our roads soon. P.S, it is just a joke. Photoshopped by a friend of mine.
  20. STOMPer JT sent these photos of the scene of an accident involving three cars at the junction of Clementi Road and Ulu Pandan Road at about 4am today (14 Oct). "Three-car collision between a Lotus Elise, Nissan and a Mercedes cab at the junction of Clementi Road and Ulu Pandan road occurred about 4am on 14th Oct 2007," the STOMPer said in an email today. "There were bad injuries but no casualties during the time when the ambulance arrived," JT said. STOMP contacted the Police, which said it received a call at about 3.50am about an accident involving three cars at the junction of Clementi Road and Ulu Pandan Road. "Two passengers were sent to the National University Hospital. Both were conscious," a spokesman said. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/viewPost6039.aspx
  21. Anyone read this? http://blog.worldcarfans.com/index.cfm/807...irmed-by-proton If really the case, this "lotus" can consider buying (assuming that its a quarter of what an elise cost in Singapore)
